I go here because it's close and it has the basics. I do not go here for a friendly staff, a good selection of products, or great prices. This place is close enough I can see it from my place so I get a lot of my basics instead of driving to Target and fighting the crowds. I often have to compromise on what I choose (I wouldn't normally pick a family size bottle of conditioner for my small shower) but I can make it work. As far as the staff, they are willing to run your purchases through the register...slowly...and take your money...without smiling, but they are NOT willing to take your hand carry shopping basket. You will be told to put it back by the door. Hmm, after reading what I've written for this review, 3 stars may be a bit generous. The Walgreens in River Forest, Illinois -- 7251 N. Lake Street -- is in desperate need of new staff and management. Over the past several months, the store has gotten more dirty and filthy with excessive merchandise often piled in the aisles. It looks like the store hasn't been cleaned in months. On multiple occasions Walgreens employees are standing directly outside the front doors of the store smoking cigarettes. So much for the notion of good health and well-being for anyone, most especially customers who are forced to inhale noxious nicotine smoke. In addition, on three different occasions within the past month, the pharmacy department has been out-of-stock of commonly ordered/prescribed medications. This is both unacceptable and an inconvenience, considering the same prescription medication is in-stock and filled immediately at another Walgreens less than 2-miles away. It's as if no one at this Walgreens store is monitoring stock levels, taking necessary actions to ensure appropriate medications are readily available to customers, nor concerned about providing basic customer service skills. Where's the store manager? Who's minding the store? Who's holding the Walgreens team accountable? I've verbalized these concerns to both the store manager and pharmacy manager and unfortunately things haven't improved; as a matter of fact, things have continued to get worse. I might expect this at a busy inner city pharmacy, but this is River Forest and we expect a better business environment and certainly a higher level of service. If you live in the River Forest/Oak Park/Forest Park neighborhoods and you need a pharmacy, I strongly recommend that you take your business elsewhere. read more

There is one employee at this store that is outstanding, Greg Williams. He is the most helpful employee, whether it is a refund, exchange, checking out, or getting your car back after being towed by the lousy shopping center, after you spent your money in River Forest for 3 hours. Greg gave us the tow company phone number and the phone number for a cab to get to the tow center. THANK YOU GREG. We would be shopping at this Walgreens in the future, but due to the $170.00 we just spent on the tow, we'll be staying in Oak Park where they don't tow you after you shop and eat for 3 hrs. read more

I was amazed by the fast and kind service I experienced at this Walgreens when I went in for an EYE EXAM! Who would have thought that Walgreens offers that service too! Such a great convience to have for that area I hope they add more optical locations. read more

I have realized that the only time I really visit Walgreens is when I come home. The overall store is neat and often I go in to find the employees stocking up on items. This time was no different and with the holidays coming up, the lines seemed to be extremely long. Also, the employees are usually a hit and miss in terms of their attitude. However, I got really nice service on this particular day! On top of that, I was able to grab some great Shea Moisture hair products during the "Buy one, get one 50% off" deal, which made Walgreens seem ten times better than usual! Hello Yelpers! :) If only I could give this store zero stars, I would! I just filed an online complaint and a telephone complaint about this store. It is hands down THE worst. The customer service is awful, especially in pharmacy. The only reason I was going to this location was because it is less than 5 minutes from my current address. I plan to switch back to the one located on Harlem & Roosevelt in Forest Park. When I lived at my previous address, I used to go to the Forest Park store for two years. The employees are so much nicer. They actually speak to you when you enter their store! And the pharmacy staff are really nice. Hopefully the River Forest location will improve. Keep writing reviews! The pharmacy department is racist. A young Caucasian guy and the Caucasian manager make on duty displayed racism. I had a booster shot and flu shot scheduled at 5 my daughter at 515 my son at 530 I checked in was waiting till 525 pm someone call my name. I was waiting at door as instructed initially, following I asked you call my name what am I waiting on the young gentleman said we were trying to see if you wanted to pay for your daughter hope where you trying see this cause no one called my name. However when I register the young lady stated she could not get flu shot here which I stated fine let's just do the booster. As the guy. to be dis honest I asked for my cdc cards back and told him to cancel appointments. As I walked away he stated Some people now young Caucasian man you do not say some people reflecting already your being bias and discriminatory yet, the manager on duty should've told him none of that. River forest is known to be racist but you blatantly showed this. I am astonished that Walgreens has individuals like this representing them. read more

Somehow my prescription got sent to the Walgreens in Oak Park. This was probably my fault, and the prescription was ready for pickup here the next day. That is all fine. However, the next month, when it came time to get a refill, I was told that I couldn't because it was two early, evidently because the mixup resulted in the records showing that I had filled two prescriptions the previous month, rather than one that was then sent to another location. It was a hassle to straighten things out. Also, this windowless building is just a dreary place to be. There are much more pleasant Walgreens locations, including the one in Oak Park where my prescription was first sent to. In the future I will probably just go the extra few blocks and get my medicine there. read more

Posting on yelp because I'm pretty sure my google review was deleted. If I could give the healthcare clinic at this location zero stars I would. I visited the walk in clinic this morning, after the hours clearly state online opens at 9am. There's a note on the kiosk that says clinic will open at 9:25, no problem. The doctor and nurse (assuming) walk in at 9:10. The nurse kindly greets me as she walks past and the doctor blows by uninterrupted by her phone call on speaker phone. The nurse comes out to turn on the kiosk and tells me to go ahead and sign in. As I begin checking in, the computer abruptly turns off and reboots. I pop my head around their office to see if they can check in for me and they tell me no. Ok. I wait 5 min for it to reboot and the computer continues to have problems so the nurse asks for my insurance and id to "see what they can do about it". Wow! I'm now checked in! After checking my insurance, the nurse tells me they don't accept my PPO plan so there will be an $89 office visit fee and $70 for the strep test, in addition to "any other fees which will be billed to you but we aren't sure what those are yet". I have filled many prescriptions at their pharmacy which takes my insurance, so this makes no sense to me. I apologize for being rude and irritable, but I'm in excruciating pain and don't appreciate being completely ignored by the doctor. Absolutely unacceptable customer service and bedside manner from the doc. I ended up finding an urgent care down the street who gladly accepted my insurance, quickly diagnosed me with strep, and sent my scripts to Walgreens (another location), which were all covered 100%. Would never recommend this clinic to anyone. Look elsewhere. read more

I just called Advocate Medical Clinic at the Walgreens in River Forest to make an appointment because I am sick (flu or a bad cold with fever). The woman took down all my information and then told me that the information I had given her was wrong. She said what I told her was not the same as the information in her records and that she could not make an appointment unless I had the correct information. I explained that I know where I live and my phone number so her information must be wrong and that it needed to be changed. She kept cutting me off when I repeated my phone number and then that of my parents in an attempt to find the mistake. She told me, in a matter-of-fact, cold as ice tone, that I needed to come into the Walgreens with my ID in order to change my information. When you are sick with a fever and chills, you don't want to wait to recite, in front of strangers, all of your personal information. Besides, how private is that? I recognize that there are privacy laws and rules set up to protect people's confidential information but saying your information out loud in a public place is not very confidential at all. And that absolute and cold tone that she took was unnecessary. The fact that she would not allow me to change my information on the phone is what I am complaining about. I believe that Advocate / Walgreens should train people to be more sympathetic -- especially when people don't feel good -- and to accept change over the phone. read more

For pharmacist at this location to be in the medical field is a crying shame. Not only do they ignore you when you try to hand over a prescription but they lie about the wait time. The last & final time I went here I needed meds for a bronchial infection. I was told my prescription would be filled in 45 minutes. I waited in agony for an hour & a half at which time I had to ask for my prescription which still wasn't ready. As I waited several other customers had similar experience. The employees walk around with no empathy for their customers . This stores needs to retrain their employees as this lack of customer service runs rampage. Pulling a bandage off slowly would be less painful then this visit. Don't wast your valuable time. Visit a CVS instead. read more

This review is about the pharmacy at Walgreens in River Forest. My advice is go somewhere else. The pharmacy staff is rude and unprofessional. I have never been treated so terribly in my life. I thought when I saw different staff working there someone had finally solved the poor customer service problem, but I was wrong. I have private health insurance and a savings card from the drug company for an expensive drug. I was told by the walgreens pharmacist that I could not use the savings card because the card says it can't be used in conjunction with federal programs(Medicare and Medicaid). I am a federal employee with BCBS not a recipient of a federal program. The pharmacist then went on to tell me he that when the store got audited the store would have to pay the the discount back!? I called the number on the savings card and was told walgreens was wrong and to have the pharmacist call them. I went back in the store and asked them to call. After 30 min the rude tech had the nerve to "fling" the prescription at me and say well when we get audited you will be responsible for paying that discount back. I was so upset I could not remember my pin number to my debit card. The moral to this story is please complain if the customer service is this poor and maybe someday this negative reviews will force a culture change at this store. read more

If I could give this place no stars, I would. For almost a year, they gave me the wrong dose of a prescription, which I only discovered when I went to another pharmacy. On multiple occasions they have told me a prescription would be ready at a certain time, and when I came back, they told me they were out and that I would have to go to another pharmacy, which they would not locate for me. I had a 2:00 appointment at the health clinic today and it is now 3:39 and we haven't been seen yet. I have been here with a sick child all this time. We had to pay out of pocket because they won't take my Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO. This place is not just unprofessional - it's downright dangerous. Never again. read more

I can't believe they get away with acting that way. I went into this store last weekend and bought several rolls of Christmas wrapping paper on clearance. While I was checking out, one of the employees asked me if I would like help outside. I accepted the offer and since I was in a tight parking spot, he waited for me to back up and then helped me load the wrapping paper into my car. He even wheeled my shopping cart back into the store for me. What a nice guy and excellent example of great customer service. Thank you Sam for going above and beyond! read more

I can deal with long lines. I can deal with waiting for out of stock medication. What I cannot deal with is rude, condescending pharmacy staff members (after waiting for them to order medication, and after waiting in line) who interrupt you when you're trying to ask a question, and treat you as though you have no brain whatsoever. This is exactly what you get at this Walgreen's. In addition, their ability to process Rx coupons is non-existent. I have taken GoodRx coupons for prescription refills to CVS and Osco, and had no problem whatsoever. Try to use one at this Walgreen's however, and they act like you're trying to rob a bank. The price with a coupon always comes out higher than the insurance amount here. I've transferred more than one prescription from this Walgreens to an Osco or CVS pharmacy, presented the same coupon, and been given a price that was literally hundreds of dollars lower than what Walgreens insisted was the right amount. Somehow, the lower prescription price is just not available through them. I will never get a prescription filled at this place again. Never, ever. read more

We have been going here for two years and live very close by. Today I'm moving to a new pharmacy. They are chronically understaffed and disorganized. It's a tossup on whether the pharmacy tech you're dealing with is trained. Phone is always ringing off the hook, cars backed up outside, frequently with no one answering them. I called in to ask about a prescription at 2pm and was on hold for 10 minutes. Then tried to get the prescription and it took 45 minutes -- and the prescription was ready. I've brought prescriptions in to wait for them and been told it will be a minimum of an hour (used to be 20 minutes). I've dropped off prescriptions and been told it would take an hour, only to be told upon returning that now it'll take more than that, you'll have to come back. It's no longer worth it. I'm transferring my prescription elsewhere. read more

This is the worst pharmacy I've ever encountered. With three pharmacy techs there was a line of about 8 people that took forever to move. Do these people not know how to delegate tasks? I'm in line to drop off a prescription for pain meds for an impacted wisdom tooth so you can imagine my increased frustration. I'm next and some older man steps in front of me out of no where. Are you f'n kidding me? I don't care how old you are you're not cutting the line. I say excuse me several times and he ignores me. Then finally he says "I was called to the front." So does the the tech not say anything to me before he gets there that he's calling him ahead of the entire line. I was livid and this guys was being a total jerk about it. If you end up only having to wait six hours for your prescription to be filled and only have to wait in line for 30 minutes just to actually pick it up - consider yourself lucky. I have refilled prescriptions through the automated voice system and had them send each to a different walgreens to be picked up. I have only talked to a representative to refill since then. Last time I got a message that my meds were done then sat in the drive through for an hour waiting for them to be ready. Now, I just sat on hold with the store for over ten minutes while being transferred to three different departments, finally reached a pharmacist, and she hung up on me while I was speaking to her!!! Trying to get a refill on one of my prescriptions, the store I usually go to got my Rxs mixed up with my mom's DOG. They called and messaged me saying, "We can't fill your RX due to problems with insurance." I called the store and after a long wait on hold, the lady just sorta laughed and asked "Is this for a dog?" Then when I went to pick up my own RX, the guy at the counter was a jerk. He tried to make me take mine AND my mother's dogs RX (which no insurance covered). I had to call my mother to confirm that no, I didn't want to take my mother's dog's RX if I had to pay for it out of my own pocket. On top of that, instead of 3 packs of my own RX, I only got one because "that's all Blue Cross would cover." read more

I finally have given up on Walgreens after they screwed up a refill saying it was already refilled despite me still having the last bottle. Now I'm traveling without the medication because they have contact my physician. Simply put: They suck They also specialize in hiring the most surely people they can find. The pharmacy of this Walgreen's is severely understaffed and has been understaffed for a very long time. They often make little mistakes, they aren't able to help you when your insurance company plays games with you. I don't usually use this pharmacy but I sometimes wind up doing so because it is the closest one to my house. But every time, I regret it. If your medicine is critically important, I would not use this pharmacy as your life might literally be in danger. This is a pharmacy that literally doesn't answer it's phones. If your situation is less urgent, you might want to use it, but be prepared for a nightmare experience. I have been here enough to realize that it is not a problem with a particular employee and it is not simply a rare fluke that causes occasional busyness. The problem is that they have made a business decision to save money by not properly staffing their pharmacy. read more

The image of the medical professional (and I seriously doubt that's what she is because she never introduced herself), just shaking my daughter's form in front of me like a scolding teacher and rushing me away, but having enough time to help someone who didn't speak English fill out forms on the appointment console, is still haunting me. What I found out after my daughter's mother arrived with paperwork, is that they somehow switched to Advocate and could no longer treat my daughter. How would I know that? Why didn't she just say that's what happened rather than loudly inform me about the law she would be breaking if she saw my daughter?! That time could've been spent getting her meds elsewhere! Overall, she was RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL and had no uniform or badge displaying her name or title! Never Again !!!!! I truly believe we were discriminated against over my daughter's type of insurance. She doesn't know anything about our situation and rather than try to assist us in obtaining meds for my daughter's pink eye (if not from here, somewhere else), we were berated and ignored.
