Wow. I completely echo the recent one-star reviews about the inability to get anybody at this pharmacy on the phone. Some months ago it seemed they had made some improvements, and it was getting a little easier to get a human being on the phone at the pharmacy, but more recently things have really taken a nosedive. Calls to the pharmacy are now routed through a call center located who knows where, but since many issues can only be resolved at the pharmacy itself, the call center ends up transferring you to the local pharmacy you were trying to reach in the first place, wasting your time in the process. When you get transferred to the Otis Dr. pharmacy, they simply do not pick up the phone. You are put on hold and put back on hold infinitely until you give up or the system automatically hangs up on you. This is completely unacceptable. Zero respect for customers, their time and well-being, especially the infirm, elderly, and disabled who may not have the tenacity to keep trying to reach this unreachable pharmacy. Having no way to reach one's pharmacy over the phone is a health and safety issue that warrants a formal complaint with the appropriate government agencies. All because Walgreens corporate doesn't want to spend the money to staff appropriately. Shameful and inexcusable. read more

If there is a problem with filling a prescription, there is no way to reach them. Call them? The line gets hung up. I get meaningless updates on filled prescriptions but no info on why something is not being filled. Then, they just delete it without telling you why and you start over again. Terrible read more

They're horrible! Their pharmacy (which deals with sick people who need their medicatio) NEVER answers their phone. I plan to walk in tomorrow and get the manager's information. One time, I was on hold for 7 minutes and they hung up on me. I'm moving my medications to CVS. They'll miss the business, cause I have great benefits and I'm on HRT! Bye bye, Walgreens. read more

In addition, its great not having to wait in long lines for Drugs and other Sundries during daylite hours. -- Unfortunately they're hardly reliable..! This early A.M., everything but the Drive-Up Window was closed and even through the sign at the front door says you can request multiple things at the drive-up window the pharmacist didn't know what she could or couldn't do and had to summon the Manager. When I recited the things I needed, the "Manager " winged it" and said "whoa that's way too many", most likely because he could really care less about helping out for "the Company", "his fellow Walgreen's Staff - out sick" or even a "Walgreen's Customer"...! read more

Worst. Pharmacy. Ever. On Friday, October 31, 2025, I got a diagnosis that requires treatment with a schedule II medication. In addition to the e-scribed prescription, Walgreens itself requires your doctor complete a 4 question form. My doctor received the form and faxed it back on Friday. When I called to ask why they had canceled my prescription, a pharmacist outright lied, saying they had nothing from my doctor. AND, the pharmacist on Friday said they did not have the medication and she had no idea when it would be restocked. She was pretty rude. Next day, Saturday, November 1, 2025, I called in and talked with a different pharmacist. That pharmacist told me, absolutely YES, they have the medicine in stock. So pharmacist #1 lied. The Saturday pharmacist lied saying they did not get their form back from the doctor. Remember, the doctor DID send it back on Friday. I called again the next day, Sunday, November 2, 2025. A tech again lied saying they didn't see any form returned by the doctor. I told her that first thing Monday my doctor would resend the completed form. The tech said very specifically that was great, once they got the form on Monday everything would be good and they would fill it within 30 minutes. Today is Monday, November 3, 2025. Now, these liars say there is ANOTHER form my doctor has to complete before they will give me the prescribed medicine--WTF?!?! If you're following all this, one thing is obvious--If you sent one extra form to my doctor on Friday, three days ago, then why in god's name would you not send both at once?!?! As of this writing I am on hold for 55 minutes and I still cannot speak with a pharmacist! While these liars and idiots are jerking me around I have gone four days without starting the treatment. Walgreens forces patients to needlessly suffer while they do one nefarious thing after another to deny sick people their medication. Totally inhumane and outrageous! I strongly suggest you avoid this type of mistreatment and disrespect and use another pharmacy. read more

I went into Walgreens today to pick up my prescriptions that they had texted me were ready. When I got there, they told me there was a problem with my insurance. They told me I had secondary coverage, which I don't. This is the third time this has happened to me. They correct their error but somehow it happens again the next time. It appears that the people working in the Wallgreens pharmacy are very nice but seem to be terribly incompetent. I will be moving my prescriptions to another pharmacy and would recommend others do the same. read more

Walgreen's should have to experience listening to their REPEATING RECORDING EVERY 5 SECONDS saying "We're sorry, but our staff is answering other calls. Please hold on and we'll be with you shortly." Being on a lengthy hold is bad enough, but having a stupid, completely unnecessary recording repeating every 5 seconds is torture. Upper management should be required to experience it too! read more

i never go to this silly store unless they have flavored water on sale, otherwise shopping there is a silly waste of time. 1. Up to $3.00 for canned fruit and vegetables that are free at the nearby food bank. 2. The store's refrigerators have been out of service for months. 3. No plastic bags and they use thin white paper bags that tore in 2 when the cashier was putting my items into them 4. Items like laundry detergent locked in cases. 5. Lines so long you may have a birthday waiting your turn. 6. Lethargic security guards who couldn't catch a thief who has escaped on BART. 7. No brand name toilet tissue or paper towels like Bounty or Viva, only the useless Walgreens house brand which I wouldn't take for free. 8. On one trip I saw expired milk being sold. 9. Aisles often completely blocked...why not stock the shelves before the store opens or after it closes. i could go on but you probably get the picture. read more

Walgreens is walgreens and they've always got the same stuff. For this location specifically... PROS + open 24/7 so it's convenient + located in south shore center so there's tons of parking all the time + close to the beach in case you need any last minute sunscreen or beach items CONS + customer service could be better. I was waiting by the photo area for awhile and even after I had made eye contact with the cashiers at the front and they saw me waiting, they didn't do anything about it (ask if I need help, call one of their coworkers, etc). Even when I went up to them to ask if they could help, their response wasn't to call one of their coworkers; instead, they told me to press the customer service button at the photo area. + their photo pick up time was inaccurate. I ordered a same day pick up and scheduled it at a specific time because I had a lot to do to and I'd only be in the area for a short while. When I arrived at the estimated pick up time on my order, they hadn't even started on the main part. I had to wait an additional 45 minutes for my order to be finished which pushed back my schedule and was really inconvenient. Anyways, not my choice of location, but with 24/7 hours, they'll obviously be available in a pinch. read more

Went is for a passport photo, of which is plastered all over their website and in-store advertising that a digital copy would be emailed to me free of charge. When it came time to pay, much to my surprise I see an additional charge for a digital copy. I point out that literally everything says it should be free, including the billboard hanging right above our heads. The rude old lady said "If you have a problem with it you can let corporate know". Well God invented credit card chargebacks for a reason, so I hope that penalty is taken out of your rude deceiving salaries read more

I am so glad that the Oakland East 18th store closed! It is like Night and Day. We had a few problems in the beginning with this Drug store answering the phone but things have gotten steadily better. Today I have been trying to reach someone in the pharmacy by phone. When I call the phone number for the Otis location, the pharmacy sends me to a call center so they don't have to answer the phone. My issue can only be resolved by speaking with someone who is physically located in the pharmacy because the call center can't help with a basic quantity mixup. An elderly disabled person should be able to have the same access to the pharmacy staff that a person who is able to walk into the store has. A parent with a sick child should be able to ask their pharmacist directly about questions or concerns regarding their child's medication. Lives depend on pharmacy staff being available to respond to potentially life-threatening issues for patients. Lives also depend on disabled people having the same access to their pharmacy as able-bodied people. After spending more than two hours trying and failing to reach pharmacy staff at Walgreens on Otis Dr in Alameda, I called the main store number and advised them that I plan to file a DOJ complaint, the woman who answered brushed me off and flippantly said, "Well, how can I help you?" and this was after she failed to connect me with the pharmacy after being asked to do so by their customer care escalation team. This is not an isolated incident. I recommend choosing another pharmacy if you can. I will. read more

I tried calling to check on a prescription and after waiting on hold for 12 minutes I was next in the queue. The phone was taken off hold and they immediately hung up the call. I called back and once I got to the front of the queue the call kept picking up and then immediately put back on hold. This repeated at least 5 times and I never received help. read more

I went to this store to get some Emory boards today and found the ones I wanted in a locked up compartment near the back of the store. There are numerous buttons to push for customer service so I pushed one. I waited 5 or 7 minutes then I pushed it again. They annouced 2 or 3 times over the store PA system that help was needed in skin care which I assumed meant my area. After 10 or 12 minutes a lady in a walgreens smock appeared at the end of my aisle with an older gal (both were asian) and they were chattering away in a foreign language so I thought great, she's gonna help this lady and then I'll be next. Well, I waited another 10 or 15 minutes while they continued talking, looking at cellphone pics etc. Now I'm not one who normally complains, but I am 73 years old and had walked to the store from my home about 2 miles away and my feet were hurting from standing there waiting as they continued to shoot the breeze. The gal who I assumed worked for walgreens looked at me briefly so she definitely knew I was there but I thought well, maybe its not her job, her department etc. Finally after it had gone beyond the ridiculous to the sublime, I walked down the aisle and asked her if she worked at the store and could she help me. She said she was helpIng someone else. The older lady apologized to me right away because she knew they were just chewing the fat and another elderly customer was being ignored. The walgreens employee basically told me I hadn't waited very long but she probably didn't care that I had been there for 10 or 15 minutes before she appeared. She begrudgingly walked over and unlocked the case for me, complaining the whole time because I guess she was having a better time speaking to the other lady. I tried my best to think and hope it wasn't a racial thing but I'm still wondering. I've been shopping at Walgreens all my life growing up in SF and as an Alameda resident for the last 8 years and have never been treated like that before at this or any of their other stores. I certainly hope this gets brought to somebody's attention so more customers don't get ignored like this. read more

The pharmacy is so poorly run. As an example, doctor sent in a prescription. I called to see the status of the prescription. It took many phone calls and a visit to be told they do not have the pills on stock. They did not notify the doctor or me. I had to notify the doctor and ask him to cancel the original prescription and write a new one for half the dosage and twice as many pills. This took 4 days. I have so many more horror stories. One of the most irritating is when I get different information from different people. read more

I frequent this Walgreen's a lot. This review is for the photo department ONLY! I order online and pick up there. The staff that work behind the counter never seem to be organized. They seem to not know that people order online and pick up there. THEY ARE SLOW! On my last visit, I stood at the counter waiting for 15 minutes to be greeted by the guy who clearly saw me from where he stood. I've had my FedEx packages routed there and they can never find them. This has happened numerous times. I've now made my FedEx deliveries to arrive at the FedEx location on Atlantic Avenue. Just a side note: The cashiers in the front of the store are great! read more

This pharmacy is a nightmare. I had to switch to this pharmacy a couple of years ago when my regular Walgreens (Park St.) closed. Several times over the past couple of years I've had issues getting prescriptions filled and when I've asked to speak with the pharmacy manager I've always been met with "She's not here today." And when I ask when she'll be in, I get "I don't know." When I ask for her schedule, they say "we're not allowed to give that out." Today, after waiting all week for a prescription, and being told that that the pharmacy manager is "on vacation" with no known return date, I asked for the store manager, but was met with all the same responses. I laughed out loud and accused the person on the phone of lying to me. She said "thank you." Either they really do have absolutely no managers on site ever, or their staff just lie to patients so that no one can ever complain about how the staff treat them. I've been a Walgreens customer/patient for over 35 years, but I'll be transferring all my prescriptions to CVS. read more

Pharmacy review: The hold times at this pharmacy are beyond bad. Clearly they need additional staff. I will not be coming back, even though my insurance offers better deals through Walgreens. It's not worth the hassle of the subpar service. The staff were nice enough when I could get through to them, but clearly have too many calls / too much to get to, to be able to provide good service. Also, my calls dropped 3 separate times today when I was on hold at the pharmacy. So when calling back, I had to get in line all over again. Very frustrating! read more

Today we had an appointment for our passports. They called us from the post office almost an hour before our scheduled appointment, telling us that the camera wasn't working. So we went to the Walgreens Photo center. Upon arriving Lorena was the only person there. She helped us immediately. Soon after around 3 different families showed up. Lorena was able to help each family out in a quick and professional fashion. I don't know how she did it but she was very quick and didn't seem stressed out at all. The passport center at the Walgreens in Southshore Center is terrible. I went in to get an Irish Passport photo. Staff there did not know the requirements and took a photo that was both too close and low resolution. When I attempted to use the online passport process using the photo they took it was rejected. After looking up the requirements, I went back, showed the requirements to them, and had another photo taken. Same result. Rather than try again I went to Leetone Photo in San Francisco. They took a photo and I applied online for the passport successfully first time. Don't waste your time and money. Skip Walgreens. read more

ANSWER YOUR PHONE OR HIRE MORE PEOPLE FOR YOUR PHARMACY!!!! This is a huge problem everywhere and Walgreens pharmacy is the Master of the Endless Hold. HIRE. No excuses!!! This store doesn't even say please hold when your call is "answered." You just get the music. They come back on every few minutes just to put you on hold again, no human hello at all. Zero chance of avoiding it unless you drive there, which I've actually done while still on hold and I've shown the pharmacy tech the damned phone as I was still on hold. LUDICROUS. I was trying to save them some work, but nope. They're filling something right now that I'm not picking up. Wrong pharmacy number but I can't tell them that, now can I? I need it transferred. And their website is utter trash. Good thing we're only talking about my HEALTH here, eh? First phone call and hold for the pharmacy, I was disconnected after holding for 19 minutes. Now I'm on hold again and we're at 13 minutes. Completely unacceptable! Update: 28 minutes for the second call. I don't know if they answered or disconnected me, because while I was holding I called Foothill to pull the prescription and fill it and they answered. Miracle. Easy access to PCR Covid test. I went online and made three separate appointments for me and two kids scheduled for the following day (that was quick!). Insurance covered the cost. When we arrived, the pharmacist needed 5-10 minutes to prepare the tests (lots of paperwork on his end). He was well organized, friendly, and clear about directions. Prepare to wait for the paperwork process. It seems unavoidable. I'm grateful for the local access to PCR tests that Walgreen's provides. read more

The pharmacy is beyond incompetent and the wait is so long compared to other Walgreens. They have had a sign up for several months saying they are understaffed and to have patience. Just hire more friggin staff! I discovered that they failed to bill my insurance for my medications on six separate occasions so I paid an average of $15 over the insurance co-pay each time (that's $90 total that I lost). Yes, I should have paid attention that the prices were off, but why would they bill my insurance sometimes and not others? Makes no sense. I inquired if they could bill my insurance after the fact and they said no. I need to watch them very closely from now on. They are right by my house so it's convenient. read more

Dont go to here for pharmacy. Had scheduled covid test. Waited in the drive thru. Waiting for someone to assist me. There were like 4 staff inside. They saw me waiting. I waited for 45mins. I called and the lady told me that they will assist me shortly. I waited for another 30mins. A lady told me the computer was shut down. They should have told me or made a sign that their computer was down rather done making their costumers waited for hours. Very bad costumer service and very poor communication service. This review is for several different parts of Walgreens. PHOTOS This is my go to place for photo delivery after a disastrous experience at CVS on Bayfarm. The turnaround time is pretty quick and I've gone here for last minute projects. Each time, the prints are absolutely perfect. PHARMACY This is where time goes to die. I've had some prescriptions filled here, and there were times when I would wait 20-30 minutes for a prescription despite the fact that there were 5 people behind the counter and nobody else waiting in line. IN STORE PICKUP I've had times where I had to order something on Walgreens.com and have it delivered in store because it wasn't in stock. The helpful thing is that you get an email confirming your order and another when the order has been delivered. The unhelpful thing? It usually takes them 15+ minutes to find the order despite a small storage space. read more
