I think this may be my first review on Yelp. I was trying to find Dr. Shindy's new location. Anyway, I was referred to Dr. Shindy several years ago by my primary Doctor. Dr. Shindy is one of the best doctors I have, and I have a few. He is professional, attentive, communictative, and very personable. He also knows what he is doing. I have had two colonoscopies and one endoscopy, plus medication for heart burn. I do not understand these very low ratings, as he has been nothing but the best. Ordered a test and did not tell me it would not be covered by insurance. 3 months later, I got a bill for $780. I asked his office to appeal to the insurance company. No response. He did an endoscopy and found nothing wrong. Felt that was it for treating me. I protested that I still had tremendous pain. He wrote if off as stress. I said I still needed help. He told me to do yoga (already do that 3X per wk and it made symptoms worse). Then gave me a "new" prescription which I had already taken and didn't work. Guess he couldn't be bothered with checking the chart or actually trying to help. Totally felt abandoned and demeaned. read more

We will never go and see him. My niece was in the hospital with sever stomach pain. He came in and told her it was all in her head and that she ad depressed and had anxiety. He told her she just want the pain meds. My niece is 20 years old does not like taking meds so she felt bad asking for medicine when she was in pain. He never read her test results. Horrible experience Had to wait 3 months to get an appointment When appointment finally came I arrived 15 minutes early only to wait close to an hour On the surface Dr. Shindy was okay but he's not. Told me I was fine and didn't order an endoscopy even though my Primary care physican had pushed for one. Asked me to do a stool sample however even though I had just done a thorough one at the urgent care two weeks prior. When I left they tried to get me to pay $300 saying they don't take my insurance even though they had called verifying my insurance on the phone. When I got upset they said $150 would suffice....are you serious? I didn't pay a penny. Ended up getting in to see another gasto. Who did in fact order an endoscopy, turned out I had an ulcer as well as a hiatal hernia. Thanks for nothing Dr. Shindy. read more

I have had three colonoscopies with Dr. Shindy. Every one of them was a breeze. Why? Propofol, I lie down, joke with the anesthesiologist for a bit and the next thing I know, some pretty nurse is telling me to wake up, that it's all over. I'm not one of those people who claims they "Never have any anesthetic for a colonoscopy. Wide awake the whole time. Never feel any pain at all. Piece of cake." I don't believe such people for a second. I have regained conscious awareness before in three prior colonoscopies with other doctors. They were using Versed. Imagine what it might feel like to have a sword stuck through your lower abdominal area. Colonoscopies while wide awake? I call B.S. Now to Dr. Shindy himself. I am amazed at reading some of these other reviews. I have about five or six doctors. Dr. Shindy is my clear favorite. He is professional yet good humored at the same time. I genuinely like him as a person. He cooperates with my wishes whenever he can. For example, when I first came to him, I told him of my prior (bad) experiences with waking up during the "procedure." Dr. Shindy is hands down, THE BEST! He is a great listener, extremely knowledgeable, and genuinely cares about your health. I was bummed out at first when I saw the two month waiting list to get an appointment. After my first appointment, I see why it's hard to get an appointment with him. Again, he's THE BEST! I find it extremely hard to believe the negative reviews about his humor, bedside manner, and knowledge. It makes me think some of those Yelpers are truly "google doctors." When you make the decision to schedule an appointment, trust the Physician, let them do their job. I cant imagine how many people walk into his office assuming they know more than him, he's the expert not you. What was helpful was the literature Dr. Shindy provided after my first appointment. It helped me gain extensive knowledge on the procedure and helped me plan how I will adapt my lifestyle changes. Everything with this office is online so that's a plus! No long waiting periods over the phone. Regarding the office staff - Very pleasant! Regarding Dr. Shindy - A very crappy experience that I'd love to chalk up to him having a bad day (but I, personally, will never go back). - He didn't bother to read any of the information my doctor or the ER sent to his office, nor any of the paperwork that I brought with me ahead of time. - He said (within the first 5 minutes of meeting me) that my diverticulitis was due to my hyper-sensitivity - Please note: My new therapist (that I began seeing after this encounter just to make sure that "hyper-sensitivity" wasn't an issue) confirmed that I'm completely normal and one of the calmest people they know. - He then told me that *I would never find a partner if I continued being this sensitive* (Uhh... Wait, what? How did this become part of the conversation?!), and recommended yoga and mindfulness. (Which I've been practicing for about 10 years now and take regular workshops through UCLA's Mindful Awareness Research Center - which is great and I'd highly recommend to anyone interested. :) ) - An extra "to boot" - My gynecologist gave me a better description and idea of how to treat diverticulitis than Dr. Shindy; and, after I described my appointment with him, told me to definitely find another GI doctor. Soooo, yeah - Big "Lose" situation here. My two cents are that there are plenty of other doctors that you can see that: A) Probably understand your colon as well as, if not better than, Dr. Shindy; and B) won't make you feel gaslighted. I had a very similar experience to Q M. He told me (without examining me at all or reading any past records) that all my pain was from anxiety and that "I didn't have cancer." He literally suggested I go see a psychiatrist and get medication I KID YOU NOT!! He recommended I do yoga. ?? (This is all still from 0 examinations from him) he said I'm a young girl and shouldn't be experiencing so much stomach pain. He also told me to "pray" because he noticed I was wearing a cross pendant on my necklace and said it might help me during this pain. He said he assumes I have had stomach pains during my whole childhood which is not true!! He ASKED ME what kind of tests I would like him to perform. Im sorry.... But that's why I am seeing a GI....I have no idea what kind of tests to run..... In the end, he scheduled a blood test and another scan and I told the front desk that I WOULD NOT be attending any future appts. Saw Dr. Shindy yesterday. I waited about a month for the appointment. Probably one of the most arrogant humans I've ever met. I went there because I've had blood in stool for about a month and other GI issues. First thing he said was to do yoga. I know yoga is wonderful and helps most people feel better but come on! He seemed more interested in giving his opinion on me taking antianxiety medication than about my gut issues. When I told him the only 2 things that helped with the bleeding was Paragone and Luriciden , he said he didn't believe in natural medicine and I had to stop taking it. Really Bro! the one thing that stopped me from bleeding and feeling like shit all day, I have to stop taking. Then he tells me to stop talking to people and "Dr. Google" about my stomach to only talk to him. I mention crohn's disease and let him know that my symptoms are very similar to what I read about crohn's disease. This Doctor looks at me and tells me People with crohn's disease have rapid weight loss and anemia, clearly you don't have that problem. WTF, did he just call me fat? and for the anemia, years ago I was seeing a hematologist 4x a month for iron infusions. I've been anemic since I was a little kid. He said he will do a colonoscopy even though it's pointless cause there is nothing wrong with but he'll do it anyway. Then why do it, Dear Sir? He then asked me to sit on the table for a check up. He asked about my period, well... I haven't had one since Sept. of 2013. He says What? Why? I say it's runs in the family. My grandma started at 35. Me, my mom and sister in our early 40's. Whaaaaat???? wait, how old are you? really Dr, you didn't look at my chart. I'm 43. "you can't be." But I am, 43. Ohhhhhhhhhhh! yeah we should do the colonoscopy then. Long story short (too late!),Save your time and money. This dude is a bit off. He clearly took my look at me and judged me for whatever reason. Was it the Xanax I take? The fact that I am not thin so there no way I can be anemic or have crohn's disease or maybe he thought I was a young stupid kid that had no idea about my guts and medicine. I hope he is right and there is nothing wrong with me but I don't think Yoga is the cure for someone that was pooping blood for over a month. Till I find the right Doctor, I will continue taking the only thing that have ever made me feel better, That crazy hippy shit "medicine" that doesn't work and taking to other people in my community with gut issue. It does help to talk to others and know you are not the only one out there feeling like poop most of the time! P.S. I feel most fortunate to have Dr. Shindy as my gastroenterologist. He's an amazing physician in that he's personable, attentive, patient and is able to provide solutions that have helped solve my GI issues. He explains things extremely well, questions extensively so he understands what is going on, and makes sure at the end of the visit that you understand what has just transpired. Then, before you leave the office his staff provides a printed summary of his findings for the visit, medications prescribed, instructions relating to the problem(s) and a return appointment if needed. It was a little difficult getting the process started when I received the original referral, but once the process got going it could not have gone smoother. They provided great information on the procedures and supplies for the pre-procedure prep with DETAILED instructions. The staff in the office are very friendly, professional, caring and efficient. I have never had a worse experience trying to get an appointment. after taking my paper work to them they said they would call me within 5 days, seven or eight days later I called them. The scheduling nurse was not there but would be back soon they said on the phone. I called back an hour later ,she was not there. Another nurse scheduled an appointment for me for a Tuesday, I wasn't sure about it because they never got back to me, a week later I called again, they said they were short handed and couldn't find my info, I then found what I had written down and the woman said "oh he doesn't do procedures on Tuesday's", and " there is no record of this anywhere". I said well please make an appointment for me asap. She said she would and she would call back within an hour. an hour passed, no call, I called back and she assured me she would call back in 10 to 15 minutes and that I was on her things to do list? I was patient and waited 50 minutes before calling back it was 4 53 and I saw on the internet they were open till 5 . An answering service picked up. I was livid. I hope Dr. Shindy does better work than the people surrounding him in his office. Its been about 14 days since I dropped off my paper work with this Office.
