Dr. Walcott was our family dentist for years. We loved him! Unfortunately, we moved away.

I'm in the process of tooth removal/dental implant procedures with Dr. McDonald. I mainly went to…read morehim because my Dentist refered him and a friend who works with dentures/implants said he rated good. Long story short, my front tooth was failing from an injury almost 30 years. After getting assessed in an initial consult, getting second opinions, etc. I went with Dr. MacDonald and had the first part done almost 6 months after the initial consult, I chose that because of work obligations and my wife was getting a graduate degreee and I wanted to look ok in the pictures. I just had part 1) tooth removal in June, and his staff seemed to do a good job. I was put out and the process wasn't too painful, I filled prescriptions of antibiotics and painkillers that day. I coordinated with my dentist to get a temporary piece (or stayplate) a couple days after the intial procedure. So far good. My dental insurance from work covers a little bit of the expenses but the majority of dental insurances don't really cover it, they mainly do preventative care (cleanings and fillings). I had already put some into my FSA/HSA, unfortunately the timing of when I scheduled was after open-enrollment so I wish I had set aside more funds. Like I said, so far so good, and it's my front tooth so it'd be nice if it looked and felt good.

I had…read morebeen doing my own research on the link between tongue-ties in adult and TMJ and I decided it was something I wanted to pursue to see if it helped. To say it was life changing would be an understatement. Not only did it help with my tmj but it changed the shape of my face for the better, less square/round and more oval/heart. There is so much still being researched on fascia and facial anatomy, I'm grateful Dr McDonald listened to me and took my request seriously. Now there's more information on "mewing" and tongue posture but at the time it was not well known and it meant a lot he listened to me when many ignored it. Everyone in the office made it such a pleasurable experience from start to finish, I hope he is still in practice if I ever need an oral surgeon again.

Dr. Krey is overall one of the best doctors I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Among his strengths, he has a calming demeanor, is knowledgeable, and has a way of explaining procedures simply. During my recent procedure, he kept me updated each step of the way which helped to keep me calm and feel that he did not just see me as "molar number 3". So rare to find a doctor that addresses not just the issue, but also the human! Note that this office has staff with these same qualities! After 27 years, my root canal tooth decided to give up. Upon seeing I was nervous, the very kind assistant Miya assured me and said, "It's okay, sometimes we outlive our teeth." What a beautiful way to phrase it! I believe her name was Claire, at the front desk, was very efficient with gathering foundational paperwork. Joseph worked on my insurance and also took the time to assure me that all was well. There is another gentleman, tall, black glasses that I have encountered in the past that took exceptional care of my 2 younger family members during and after their procedures, gave after care instructions and answered all questions. When one of the staff called me hours later after my procedure to ask about how I was doing, I was almost teary. Overall, this is the best office to never have to visit that often, and will take care of you not just as a patient, but also has a human. I do not have the words to truly say how much I appreciate Dr. Krey and his staff.

The assistant and Dr. Takahashi were really chill and made everything really comfortable with light conversations. Got hooked up to the IV to get knocked out. I thought I was waiting to fall asleep the whole time and was wondering how come I'm not falling asleep. But they said the procedure was done. I am really surprised and impressed with the process and the whole procedure. It is now 10:25am back at home and I feel normal. Not feeling any pain...yet. Hope it stays this way. If you're one of those people that have a phobia of seeing the dentists, trust me you don't have to be nervous about coming here. Dr Takahashi and his staff is perfect. Update: 1 day post-op and I feel normal. No swelling and no bruising. The night before might jaw was a little sore, barely noticeable but I think that's only because my mouth was opened for about 30 min and the Dr had to work around it. I feel like I could eat normal again already but will wait one more day to make sure the gums are healing correctly. I'm so happy I went to this dental office and so glad Dr Takahashi worked on me.

The oral surgeon Dr. Gronbach came in to review it with me, and he told me there were visible nerves in the X-Ray and wanted to do a more extensive 3D X-ray to be sure the exact position of the nerves. This extra X-Ray was $322 not covered by insurance, and I agreed to it based off fear they would hit one of my nerves. After the 3D X-Ray, I never saw Dr Gronbach again, a young dental assistant came into my room and said "You're all good". It was very unsettling that I felt coerced into this 3D X-Ray and never even got the Doctor who ordered it to review the scan and confirm my nerves weren't in the way of my wisdom teeth. When it came to the day of the surgery, I saw Dr. Gronbach for the first time right before he was about to start my surgery and put me under. I brought up this issue and that I was concerned about paying $322 for an extra X-Ray when he would just send an assistant in to tell me "You're good". His exact response to me bringing this up was to turn to another assistant and say "Give her more gas". A few days after my surgery was complete, it became clear I had no feeling in about an inch of the back left side of my gum. I brought this up at my follow-up appointment, and Dr. Gronbach confirmed they "knicked the nerve", the same thing that this $322 3D X-Ray was supposed to prevent. I asked about the process to re-gain nerve feeling in the effected part of my gum, and he said verbatim that it will take awhile to grow back, and if it doesn't end up healing "I hope its not too annoying to live with". This response was not only unprofessional, it felt demeaning. I am a 24 year old at the appointments with no parental figure and was not taken seriously. And because of this I still have an inch of my gums feeling like the Novocain never wore off. This is incredibly disappointing not only in lack of awareness during surgery but also the fact that I felt I had to pay extra to avoid any nerve problems that happened anyway. All dental assistants and front desk staff were lovely.

However, I found the surgeon to be very dismissive - they didn't greet me, they interrupted me every time I tried to speak or pose a question and they in general seemed to be in a hurry. The surgeon also tried to upsell me on a post surgery procedure that I did not need (I would later learn). Overall, I felt very uncomfortable with their bedside manner. Last, the office forgot to give me my X-ray that I had taken during my visit only to mail it to me several weeks later without paying for the postage. I ended up having to do so when my mailman made the delivery to my home. It was not a pleasant experience. Overall, I'm glad that I trusted my gut and did not pursue getting my wisdom teeth removal here after my experience. I went to another nearby surgeon and had a great experience and paid much less as well. I would encourage others, if they can, to seek a second opinion and then make your decision from there. I am glad I did.
