We were in Branson for a wedding and wanted to grab a quick lunch and my brother chose this place. Once you get in, the lighting is very dim and the music plays softly in the background. The waiters and owners greeted us and were on point with service! That part deserves one star. On Sunday, it's all "dinner" prices which was weird. Their menu was very limited and was not worth the price that we paid. For Udon noodles in a clear bland soup was $10.95. My brother got the spicy noodles and it came with two pieces of shrimp and you could tell it was instant noodles. The ribeye dinner was $21.95 and it was not worth the portion. This place was a big miss for me because there just wasn't much of variety there and the prices were way overpriced. Nonetheless, we tipped 20% because the service was perfect. We're not into sushi but thought we'd like to try a different Asian food restaurant than the ones we usually frequent. This was a good choice. They do have lunch specials, although, like everything else, they are going up in cost: $12-$15 not including drink. They come with soup (aka sea water) and simple lettuce salad with a nice dressing. The main courses have a very nice presentation and are tasty. My wife's tofu meal had some of the best tasting tofu we've had. The inside of the restaurant has a different vibe than other Asian restaurants and we enjoyed the "elevator" music as opposed to traditional Asian played in most. A bit cluttered and I'm not sure the purpose of the wall with booze bottles when they didn't really have a bar. All in all, a pleasant experience. read more

As someone from Kansas City, which has a pretty decent variety of restaurants, I wasn't expecting much from sushi in Branson, MO. When I walked up to Wakyoto, with its LED sign above the words "Japanese Restaurant," my hopes further dropped. I was expecting something on the tier of gas station sushi, and how wrong I was! When I walked in, everything changed. The restaurant is dimly lit with a very peaceful atmosphere. We were promptly greeted and brought to a table near the back. The service was good, the restaurant was clean, and I really don't have any complaints about the experience. Now on to the food! Overall, the food was really good, much better than I was expecting before I walked in! I ordered an appetizer of soft shell crab, which I've never tried before. I have nothing to compare it against, but it tasted like you'd imagine deep fried crab does, and it was delicious. The miso soup was pretty standard, without much seaweed or tofu, but good nonetheless. Our rolls came quickly, all brought out on one plate (our waitress did make sure to explain which rolls were which). Mine were the tuna and salmon rolls, which were both very good. I especially liked the salmon, and I highly recommend it. Wakyoto is a gem of a sushi restaurant in what I thought was an unlikely place. The only thing that keeps me from a five-star review is having gone to some phenomenal sushi places elsewhere, and Wakyoto has certainly broadened my expectations for food in Branson. Customer service: 2 stars: our waitress was friendly and accommodating but ahe wasnt very knowledgeable about the items on the menu. Cleanliness/ambiance: 2 stars: its dark, the decor is dated, and its no real flow in the place. For some people that may be off putting and make them walk out. The kids meal portion is big enough for a 3 year old my 9 year was infuriated they only gave him 1/2 a cup of rice. An additional 1/2 of cup of rice is $2.50, i gave him the 3/4 cups of rice i had out of my bento box. Food: 1 star: i let the group down picking this place. We were in town on Christmas Eve, and I so happened to look at sushi places on Yelp and found this spot with pretty great reviews. Just walking in, we were immediately greeted by the sushi chef and picked a spot to sit at. Our very friendly waitress came and got our drink menus and our choice of appetizer. They were really accommodating to the specifics of how my daughter wanted her sushi roll and I thought that was very sweet of her and the sushi chef. We got our food- sushi rolls and chicken & steak combo teriyaki. The sushi rolls were very delicious- haven't had really amazing sushi since back home. However, for the price we paid for the chicken & steak combo teriyaki I felt like we didn't get nearly a sufficient amount of meat. I wasn't expecting a generous portion but I definitely was not expecting such a skimp amount. I did enjoy our dinner and the nice ambience but if I go back in town and decide on this Japanese joint, I will probably stick with ordering sushi rolls and a glass of wine. My family and I visited Wakyoto when we were craving Okonomiyaki in Branson. Unfortunately, wakyoto didn't have that and so my dad ordered a lunch box and I ordered the spicy (shin) ramen with pork dumplings. We also ordered spring rolls and 6 pieces of gyoza. The lunch box was particularly good. The salad was on point, the sushi was amazing and the shrimp was good although the soy sauce was a bit too strong. The ramen was slightly disappointing. The gyoza pieces that come with it were good and the soup was good but the noodles honestly tasted like Top Ramen noodles. And the quantity of the soup was disappointing. The spring rolls were okay and the gyoza was really good. I definitely recommend getting sushi, gyoza pieces and the lunch box.
