    Pure Black
    Nick M.

Stopped in after getting a massage. Cashier was extremely friendly and inviting so that was a plus. They had a special- coffee and a sandwich for $15. I ordered the pure black and the traditional combo. Each came out quickly, which was good, but I was disappointed with both. The coffee was excellent tasting but it was absolutely tiny and chock full of ice. There wasn't much coffee at all. The sandwich, while a good size, didn't wow me with how it tasted. The pate didn't have that rich flavor I was expecting. The place was clean and the people nice. Coffee tasty but tiny. Sandwich large but bland. Mixed bag. Expensive. I wish these people well but this isn't a spot for me.

A bright and cheerful place, Wake Up certainly has the goods to wake you up with their strong, sweet, Siagon coffee and the bright flavors of their banh mi sandwiches. The menu is short and concise - sandwiches on one board and drinks on the other. You order at the counter on the Water St side and wait for your number to be called. There is a decent amount of seating for the size of the space - a counter at the window, a group table, comfy chairs on the Erie side. The coffee itself is rich, thick, and bold. I've had the Saigon and Vegan both were SO satisfying with their sweet cream. The vegan banh mi I had was good, the tofu being juicy and the veggies crunchy, with the jalapeno being a good mouth wake up. I don't normally go for cucumbers or jalapenos but I like them in the banh mi! I sampled my spouse's BBQ pork sandwich and that REALLY sang, the fatty meat, fresh veg, thick bread all in harmony. Overall Wake Up is a delightful addition to downtown. Car parking is street parking with private paid lots nearby. There are bike racks in Hanover Square about half a block over, and it's accessible via bus.

    Saigon classic - hot

Walked in and was warmly greeted by staff and a bright, inviting space. The cafe has plenty of seating (2 larger tables of 6 seats, about 4 tables of 2 seats, a bar table with about 7 seats by the window, and a cozy seating area towards the back). I ordered a hot Saigon classic drink and the traditional combo banh mi. The coffee was excellent! Rich, robust coffee that was sweet and creamy. Their banh mi is made to order, with the bread made in house. It took about 15 minutes from the time I ordered to the time I received my sandwich. The bread was light and crispy with a nice amount of filling (the vegetables were very fresh!). Congrats to the team on their grand opening!

The staff is very friendly. There were a few orders ahead of me but they quickly churned out orders. Several places to sit and a very nice ambiance with a large accessible bathroom. There is some street parking. The sandwich had high quality ingredients but I wish the bbq pork had some more flavor to it, and some more meat in the sandwich. The mango tea with cheese foam and passionfruit tea were phenomenal. I thought everything was priced fairly.

I knew I'd have to try the " Banh Mi Combo", which included 4 different meats. The roll was crispy, the meat had very good flavor, the pickled vegetables were fresh and crushed. I asked for light mayo and even though there weren't a lot of jalapenos on the sandwich...it was a bit spicy for me so I just took them out. As much as I love Vietnamese Coffee, I decided to try the coffee black. It was strong but not bitter and was a nice with my sandwich. The woman at the counter was very helpful and friendly. There are tables to eat in and the hand painted mural is beautiful. I left my phone in the car so no pictures of my meal...

Strawberry Tea (9/10); refreshing, sweet, just what you'd expect!

Such a sweet spot to stop in for a midday treat or lunch. I have to recommend their Strawberry Tea if you like drinks on the sweeter side! A refreshing fruit drink that I imagine would pair well with a banh mi; unfortunately these were sold out when I came by during their opening week but I hope to try one next time! A menu item being sold out has to be a good sign! The staff themselves were welcoming and took the time to explain a few menu items to me before I ultimately landed on my drink of choice. If you choose to take a seat to enjoy your treat, they have a few different seating options, and if you walk to the back end of the shop you'll see a beautiful hand painted mural!

    Pork belly banh mi

I ordered a pork belly banh mi and a Saigon coffee. The coffee was good and flavorful. I wasn't able to eat the banh mi until I left and I found out there were no vegetables in it even though the menu listed them as a part of the sandwich :( I still liked the place and the atmosphere!

This spot has been on my radar for a long time, back when it was Peaks. It recently went through a…read morerebrand. I found myself with some work to do on a Saturday morning and decided to swing by. There's on street parking on the block it's on and surrounding blocks. There's also an abandoned store across the street with a small lot, which is where I wound up parking. The space is small but I didn't have any trouble finding a seat, though I imagine that might be a different case later in the day or during peak study time for the students. I got an ube iced coffee special with oat milk, and impulsively ordered the breakfast burrito too. I figured if they have shirts advertising the burrito, it must be good. The decor is very trendy and chic and well-curated, and you'll feel super hip hanging out here. The coffee was alright but my shot was a bit on the bitter side - assuming this was just a one-off. The breakfast burrito lived up to the hype. Fluffy eggs, perfectly crispy pressed tortilla, a flavorful aioli generously slathered all over the plate. Definitely one of the places to come (if not THE place) in Syracuse if you want a breakfast burrito. Unfortunately for me, the WiFi was down when I went, so I couldn't actually do my work and didn't stay long. Womp womp. Perhaps unavoidable, but definitely not ideal for a coffee shop. I wish I'd brought a book with me that day or had more time just to spend, because I'd say this spot is great for silent reading and unplugging more than working or socializing. Worth checking out, for the aesthetics and the tasty egg burritos.

Finding spots that are serene enough to get together with a couple of friends is never as easy as…read moreyou think, however when we walked into Kelsey's we knew that we'd found a new spot worth returning to. As we sipped our lattes and talked, we enjoyed the comfortable seats, the narrow table that allowed us to lean into each other as we gossiped, and the tall windows facing the street that were perfect for people watching. My only regret is not getting a breakfast burrito because I had major envy as some of my friends bit into theirs! No worries, it gives me (another) good reason to return!
