This was my first time at this new Hope Cafe. I knew it was in the works and am glad that I finally got to try it out. This location is close to the Everson Museum, the County Office Building, and much more. It's likely a 10-minute walk from Salina Street. So it's convenient! There is on-street, metered parking and - in this area - I prefer parking across the street in the 500 block of East Genesee. The interior has plenty of seating and is comfortable. I do think that they need a few more lights. There are lots of windows, so you can seat and watch the world go by. And in good weather, you can sit at a table outdoors. I can't tell if this has the same menu as the location in Liverpool. However, I had a very good breakfast sandwich with an emoliente. The person I ate with had a breakfast bowl and an emoliente. The emoliente is my go-to drink at Hope Cafe! Ordering ahead thru their app is an option and I noticed several people picking up orders to-go. All in all, I recommend this Hope Cafe! I think folks who work downtown should definitely give it a try!

I don't even understand how a breakfast sandwich can be this good.

Overall, I enjoyed my visit. The vibe was relaxed and low-key, making it a good place to sit down and get some work done. I spent some time working while I was there and appreciated having a space where I could focus without feeling rushed. The staff was pleasant, and one of the employees was kind enough to take a picture for me when I asked, which I appreciated. The only thing that stood out to me was that there wasn't much of a greeting or acknowledgment when I walked in, but it wasn't a huge issue. The seating was okay. The chair I chose wasn't the most comfortable for an extended stay, but it got the job done. There was also some rock music playing during my visit, which helped create a casual atmosphere. I didn't order any coffee or food this time around, so I can't speak to the menu yet. This visit was more about finding a place to work and unwind for a bit. Would I come back? Yes. While I'm still searching for my go-to coffee lounge in Syracuse, Recess is definitely a spot I'd visit again. It has a chill, unpretentious vibe that makes it easy to settle in and spend some time there. I forgot to take more pictures will do when I go back.

Such a cute cafe and a lot more spacious than I had anticipated! Staff is also very friendly…read more There are a variety of drink options, pastries (sweet and savory), and even some grab and go lunch items available. They also sell some very cute greeting cards, earrings, magnets, etc. We ordered two drinks (Ube Espresso, Crème Brûlée latte), a flower pot mini cake (chocolate cake with raspberry filling in a decorative flower pot), a crème brûlée donut, and a spinach puff. The desserts were good, with the flower pot mini cake being our favorite. The chocolate cake was moist and the raspberry filling was balanced. We didn't love the flower frosting on top, but it was very pretty. The donut was very unique and filled to the brim with a fluffy cream - though we both thought it could've had a bit more flavor. The dough was perfect - soft and pillowy. The crème brûlée top made for a fun eating experience as the thin hard sugar had a satisfying crunch. The spinach puff was also delicious. Flaky pastry and cheesy filling - very comforting. The stars of the show were the drinks. The coffee was superb - balanced, smooth, and rich in flavor. While I didn't find the ube flavor to stand out, the ube espresso drink was still one of my favorite coffee drinks I've had. The Crème Brûlée latte was my friend's favorite - it was the perfect dessert drink. It even had the sugar crust on top. I would definitely come back to try more of their menu!
