Waite's Cleaners - A pair of a men's shorts that were sup to be pressed and starched...very poorly done. - Sewing & Alterations Near Me - Mobile, Alabama

This service is horrible!!! I took two Ben Marc suits to be pressed, both suits were brand new, all I asked was for them to press them. When my suits was returned to me the white suit was scorched on the inside lapel, it was torn or cut or something, not sure what happened to it. But when I returned it to them, I was told Clifford said it couldn't have happened there because it would have had an oil stain. I kept telling them this suit just came out of the box, and it was not torn scorched, or overly pressed. He refused to return any of my phone calls. His employers just kept telling me he said it was already damaged, I had just purchased the suits for ushering, and I really needed them . But the thing is I didn't even complain about the over pressed suits, I did not even make a big deal about the lapel being scorched, but I did mention it to them. But I told his employers to tell him I could not perform my duties on sun morning with a spot in the middle of my white skirt, We never had this problem when Quality cleaners was serving our clothes for over 40 years. I will not be using them again. I was told Clifford said he will reimburse me for cleaning the suit, As I stated it was not cleaned it was new, all it needed was for the wrinkles to be pressed out. A few years ago got something back that smelled up my car so I took it back & one of them told me there was a "bad batch of solution" so they re-ran it and it was fine. Happened again recently with 2 sweaters, a throw, and a shirt. I used the term "BO" (body odor) to describe it to the lady I left it with, & the next day I was called and told that solution doesn't go bad because they have a still (?) and I could come smell it, but that I actually DO have BO (sorry I used that term now). He said that sometimes ladies change their deodorant or have other changes, and men too, and that's what happened. I respectfully disagreed and asked why a throw that hadn't been used in years smelled the same, and he said my BO permeates the house! I've been a customer over 10 years so was shocked at this. I have gotten more "prosperous" over the last few years, and the pants to my suits not longer would button or clasp. I used Yelp to locate a highly recommended entity that could alter my pants. I have already gotten one pair of pants altered, I dropped off another to be altered, and I plan on having a third pair altered. The price was reasonable, and each alteration took two weeks. Just dropped off one button down men's shirt. And my bill was $7.07 That's way to expensive to dry clean one single shirt WITHOUT any special treatment. I was expecting the shirt to look and feel like new after paying that much. But just a basic, average job like any other local dry cleaner. When I asked for a price menu. Let me share my experience... So, I was looking for a reliable dry cleaner in Mobile as I just moved here. I foind Waite's online, they have a bunch of great reviews and the negative reviews seem to have been addressed by the owner so I felt confident that I would be taken care of and even if something went wrong I'd still be treated right. So, I called ahead well in advance to ask if I brought something in by close of business when could I expect it to be done and I was informed it would be ready for pick up the following afternoon. I got out of work late but was still able to make it there by close of business. However, I still went ahead and called when I was about 10 minutes out to let them know I was on my way since I would be arriving right before they closed. They we're very amenable to that fact. I arrived right before they closed for the day and I dropped off my items. I was again told I could expect them to be ready the following afternoon. I arrived to pick them up the next day and I was told that after I dropped off my items their system rebooted and as a result my items got put in the wrong load and they wouldn't be ready until another day later. This was mildly annoying but not a huge deal. It would have been great to receive a courteous call to make me aware of the mistake so I could have avoided leaving work early to come get my items that weren't actually ready like I had been told. I arrive the next day to pick up my items. They we're ready this time and clean. I asked if I light get a discount since my items weren't ready when I was told they would be ready. The manager, or some guy that seemed to be in charge came out to speak with me. This is where I really take issue with the service I was provided. Up until this point everyone had been very nice and polite despite the error. The guy in charge came out and again explained to me why my clothes weren't ready the day before. I told him I understood that. He proceeded to explain further why my clothes weren't ready as if my lack of understanding of the mistake they made was the problem. He managed to be both very nice and congenial yet very condescending at the same time. To remind you, at this point I had simply asked the front employee if I might get a discount due to the delay, not why there was a delay. He did not even broach the topic of giving me any kind of a discount at this point. I asked if it was normal for a delay in the cleaning to arise and then the customer to not be called and informed that their items had a new pick up date. Because honestly, that was the biggest inconvenience. He told me that he is just one guy and there is no way he could call everyone and tell them that. He also felt the need to tell me that when they tell someone their items will hb ready by 4:30 the next day that's not a guarantee. Which, I also found somewhat condescending because I never implied or thought that it was a guarantee. However, it does seem to me like prudent business practices to follow through with promises you make and make it up to people when you can't, or, if you find you can't keep those promises on a regular basis change the promises you're making to what you can actually follow through with. He then decided to look at my work badge and mention that he knows the CEO of the hospital and that he's sure he would agree with him on how he's running his business. Which was the 2nd most condescending thing he said and certainly the most irrelevant. However, despite how condescending he was his demeanor was very nice and congenial. While he was saying this the woman behind register ran my card for the full amount. Then came the most condescending thing he said; I must have been noticeably perturbed because as I'm grabbing my items he said, "are you alright, did you want like 3 dollars off or something," very flippantly and only after they ran my card. I was a first time customer; this isn't the way you earn repeat customers. Dry cleaning is dry cleaning, one chooses a place based on quality of service. Ms. Ida saved my life y'all! Okay, I may be exaggerating a little. She didn't literally save my life, but she did save my derby dress, and that's pretty much the same thing. Before you read further, this review is strictly for alterations, not dry cleaning. I bought my dress knowing it was a tad bit too long. I took it to a different dry cleaner closer to my house and they butchered it (and also insisted that I have the brand new dress dry cleaned as well as altered). I had other things done at the same time so I don't know exactly what it cost just for the dress, but $25 is a very close estimate. I was devastated when I picked up the dress. I just couldn't wear it like that. I thought I might be able to have it altered again but I knew I only had one shot at it. I asked people I trusted and decided to go with Ms. Ida at Waite's Cleaners. It was a great decision! Ms. Ida had me try on the dress and she took measurements. It was an inch longer in the front and a half inch longer in the back than the sides. She told me she would do what she could but couldn't make any promises that she could fix it as it has a very full skirt and she wasn't sure how the other place had previously altered it. I picked my dress up today and it's perfect! She is amazing! She's sweet and friendly too. I seriously love Ms. Ida! If you need any alterations, she's the lady you can trust to do it right! It took her about a week to make the alterations and she charged me $15. Seriously, I'm so happy I wish I had more clothes to be altered. When I do, you can bet I'll be going to see Ms. Ida! read more

Definitely the best dry cleaner in the area.. in my opinion, of course. It's not cheap and the service may be snooty, but they are experts in what they do and they do the best job around. I have used Waite's for years. My family and friends do as well. The quality has always been outstanding, and the service USED to be great. For some reason, the last year the service has gone down horribly. I shouldn't have to wait to be waited on when I'm the only customer in the store. Thank goodness Tony is still there - I often ask for him just to make sure I know I'm taken care of, but with their high prices and horrible customer service, I may follow several of my friends and find another cleaner.
