This review has been a long time coming! I had the pleasure of planning my family reunion of 52 people total ranging from ages 1yr old to 80+ years old! We stayed 6 days and 5 nights and rented the whole Wailea Inn house as well as the Penthouse Duplex house at Makoa Resorts for my grandmother's side of the family reunion! It took two years to plan. My mother and I had awesome back and forth communication and conversations via planning the reunion with the reservations manager Alyssa! We stayed there in June of 2023 and I plan of inquiring to rent out the entire property for June 2027 for my family reunion of 90+ people! The property manager was very attentive to feedback we provided via text and if there was a minor fix needed he came at an appropriate time. FYI for anyone coming to Hawaii. A few bugs or cockroaches are completely normal no matter where you are! You are on a tropical island. Grab one slippah and suck up your attitude! It gives me zero pleasure to write this review. We've hosted yoga retreats at Wailea Inn, Squaw Valley California and in Napa Wine Country. Our retreats were named "One of California's Top Ten Yoga Retreats" by Travel Mag. We placed a deposit in 2019 for a retreat. Due to Covid we rebooked it for June 12th, 2022. I was getting organized for the retreat, and for some reason, I looked up the most recent reviews. The photos from recent guests showed cockroaches, bed bugs/ants, and a myriad of other issues including sewage smells, sagging mattresses, and broken appliances. I called Randie Mead, the Property Manager and said "Surely this is a smear campaign against you, right? This isn't the Wailea Inn I remember?" She told a lovely story that some people don't know the difference between geckos and frogs or understand the charm of geckos (or frogs?) in a Hawaiian home. I told her that I used to live in the Virgin Islands and completely understood the charm of both geckos and frogs, but I had people flying in from literally around the world for a high-end yoga retreat, and is the property in good working order? She was vague and mentioned that due to matters out of their hands the pergola is gone (which means no group dinners or we have to run around and find an alternative), that the floors are worn down and the place is in need of repair, but FEAR NOT it's getting renovated. I said, "When?" She said "October." I said, "How does that help my $20,000+++ rental fee to you for June?" She then mentioned their property next door which looked gorgeous and she sorta picked out a few rooms that might be available but not for the full week. So the majority of guests would be in bedbug-infested rooms (those are not ants, ants don't congregate in beds), I guess we'd move guests from one property to the next mid-week as rooms became available or not, and the other guests would be in luxury apartments? (Holy future lawsuit and rage from varying guests!) She seemed to have no concept that this was a retreat with a chef and a masseuse and staff. A retreat that people saved up for and planned on years in advance and in which guests pay a significant amount of money for airfare, childcare, and vacation days just to get to the property. She went back to the geckos and I said "Those aren't geckos in the photos they are cockroaches and bedbugs/ants." To which Randie said quietly, "Mmmmmmm hmmm." Today we canceled our yoga retreat 117 days prior to our start date and asked for our $3k deposit. Randie said under no circumstances would the new owner refund our deposit, and he was "honoring" our reservation from the previous owner. (Since when is taking $20k for a crappy property "honoring" something?) She sent a long meandering email, one I'm guessing she has sent to many many enraged guests. She answered all my worries with details from the contract, instead of doing the right thing and saying, "You're right, the property is in disrepair. This isn't what you signed up for, here's your $3k back." Doing the right thing is so easy. She also said that I might be able to fly out in March to look at the property for an hour, but I couldn't go into any of the rooms. Huh? Here's what's going down in this place, it was run into the ground during covid, flooding, sewer smells, no upkeep. The old owner dumped it on the new owner. The new owner doesn't give a shit and is just swindling people until they can renovate it. As a small business, (Hot Yoga Republic) we spent today refunding thousands upon thousands of dollars in deposits and booking fees that we'll never get back. Why? Because our name means something and so does doing the right thing. We might be out of our deposit, but alas, karma is a bitch. Namaste Wailea Inn. read more

We stayed here for 8 nights and really loved the property and the staff, both at the hotel and in the restaurant. We stayed in one of the cottages, H for our entire stay. We had a lovely lower level view of the golf course. We really would love to give it a five star rating, but just couldn't since updates are badly needed. The grounds were perfect, clean, quiet and scenic. As for the bedroom area, a new mattress for starters would've went a long way. Now the bathroom...I think it hasn't been updated since the 70's or early 80's. The shower tiles need a total remodel, as it's beyond a scrub. I hope this happens soon for y'all who get a room in this cottage. I assume, management just hasn't done a recent walk thru to see the dirty mop marks on the tiling. We don't complain, since the hotel was near capacity and really enjoyed the unit. With that said, I still would recommend this property, for staff, grounds, location and potential. read more

This is not a luxury experience. This was my first time in Hawaii and because of this rental, it was ruined. This was a family vacation and I was housed in the Ohana Hale house/suite. There were roaches and an ant infestation in our bathroom, living room and kitchen. Not to mention at some point there was a frog in our bed and we had to wait over 20 hours to get our rooms sprayed with insect spray and our sheets changed (we booked for a week and had only one set of towels and sheets for each room). Property management/owners did nothing to ease our stay after being notified and shown the evidence of our infestation problems. One of the owners "Randy" visited the property without letting any of us know she would be stopping by (so technically they were intruding), simply to borrow a hand mixer from one of the kitchens-we felt very unsafe and constantly exposed by not knowing who was going to stop by because we also didn't know who (in Wailea Inn management) had a key. The pool cleaner(s) also come at an inconvenient time and the owners will not inform you upon their arrival or even give you a head up. There was a terrible flood/rain storm at some poor in our stay and it knocked out our power and flooded the yoga room & basement rooms (which was housing a husband, wife, 2 toddlers and an infant) with our plumbing so raw sewage and human waste. WE had to be the ones to reach out the owners to let them know of the issue and even then there was not an adequate amount of effort being put forth to make up for our troubles. Absolutely no refunds were given or even considered for all of our major problems with our stay. This place is not at all recommended. Please find another place to spend your time in Wailea because this is far from the luxury, relaxation you're envisioning read more

We were treated like highschoolers in a dorm. This "hotel" has the absolute WORST customer service. We were celebrating a friends 35th birthday, very respectably, cutting a cake in our beautiful villa, except we received a call threatening us to be removed from the hotel with absolutely no reason. We were here during COVID, no one around. Beware of BRANDI, as she had called us threatening to kick us out instantly, after paying for our stay for the next two nights. Do not stay here. Wow, what an incredible week staying at the Wailea Inn! Perfect property for our group. The location is excellent - 2 min walk to a couple different beaches / activity areas, 4 to 10 min walk to 15+ restaurants, 6 min to foodland, and a 1.5 min walk to a protected turtle beach (directly across the street, follow path toward the ocean, take a left when the trail T's, take the first path on the right). Even though we had a rental car (private parking & on street available during our stay), it was nice to be walking distance to everything for a truly relaxing tropical vacation. The kitchens are very functional and have lots of items we needed (the grille was a solid option too). Thanks again to Matt for helping us book a sunset dinner cruise! We had an amazing stay at the Inn in April of 2018! First, the communication was amazing all the way up until arrival. Don and Brent cared so much and response time was great - it was all super easy. We arrived and it was beautiful. Literally 50 feet from the beach and so pretty and modern! We then realized another part of the Inn would be better for our family, and the we so flexible and accommodated us immediately! Such a nice, relaxing and pretty place to stay in Maui, would fully recommend it for families or couples, the different sizes and styles of villas works for them all! read more

We LOVED this resort. We took over most of the units in the facility and it was the perfect space for our family to all have their own space but also feel like we had a common area where we could all hang out. We took over the bbq area multiple nights and had a great time. Great area, immediately next to the beach and the facility is much nicer than any of the other condo complexes nearby (we've stayed at many in this area). Highly recommended. read more

Wailea Inn is perfect for a yoga retreat. We hosted a yoga retreat and booked the entire grounds. Don and Brent made the stay easy and were quick to respond to any questions. Mahalo to both of you!! The place itself is clean, well appointed, with exceptionally well stocked kitchens. The place has everything to lux beach towels, beach chairs, and a 5 star heated yoga studio. Just a few steps from the beach, most of us would grab a beach chair and meet for morning coffee to watch the turtles and surfers. After yoga, we would relax in the pool or hot tub. Then in the evening, enjoy Mai Tai's as we hung out on the deck to watch the sunset. The Inn is close to Makena Beach and La Perouse; as well as dining, shopping and grocery stores. We just finished our stay - This condo was even better than in the photos! Amazing bedrooms, super clean, comfy beds and sheets. The AC was very strong so we always were able to come back to a cool house after a hot day in the Maui sun. We also took advantage of the washer and dryer, full size kitchen and grill for cooking. The pool and hot tub was warm and perfect. We can't really say enough good things about our stay. Perfect for families or yoga retreats! Oh and walking distance from 3 stunning beaches and local yummy restaurants! We will be back. read more

Based on Brent's reply you can tell how defensive and hostile he is. The notice from Maui electric I saw after I got back to the mainland was dated October 19. Brent did not reach out till October 30. That is poor communication. As opposed to a heart felt apology to do better next time he try's to defend position. You can tell from his response he is not sincere. This should not be his chosen profession. No custom service skills. There are many choices on Maui. Shop around. Be cautious. His reply is not honest. He is trying to save his reputation. This could have all been avoided had he been honest, and provided a generator for power and work the the group. read more

If you have absolutely no other options than this place, stay home. Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my entire life. The management team is just laughable. I would rather sleep in a tent than ever do business with these people. There a plenty of other options for the same price where you will be treated like they want you there. read more

Autumn 2021, we checked into the Wailea Inn and settled into a ground floor bedroom with a bath. The only window in the unit, is obstructed by, seemingly old, filthy, unkempt window treatment. The unit was an L shape with a slight hall from the bed area to the bathroom. The room appeared clean but felt more like a room in someone's grandparent's home rather than a luxury rental. Impression: Furnishings and fixtures may have been sourced from other locations. Some were okay; few were luxurious; none appeared to match. We found no obvious attempts made to accommodate persons with disabilities and consequently I spent extra time in my room. It only took a few people in lanai space to become uncomfortable; cramped with plants, an extra steep stair, concrete, and a gravel pit. Plus there was only the sky to watch as the Wailea Inn had a very high fence. There are a lot of stairs at Wailea Inn and they seemed extra steep and hazardous. The estate is obviously designed for the able bodied, so folk with mobility issues probably should continue to search for more thoughtfully inclusive lodging. Ground level kitchen was in need: Freezer was missing rails for freezer door thereby reducing capacity. The microwave was missing it's handle. The washer was missing its dispenser cups. Smart TVs please: Some of us brought downloaded entertainment. When rain began, we attempted to watch a movie but we could not cast to Wailea Inn old (Not smart ) TV. It was baffling that TVs are located only in common areas ~ no TVs in bedrooms on the ground level. Pack your iPad if you plan to stay at Wailea Inn. After the plumbing failed, there seemed to be a foul odor emitting from the open stairwell to the basement areas. We later learned that other dwellings in the area had generators that prevented much of the waste water damage. The lock on the main glass front door routinely sticks. That door was far too difficult to open and secure. Anyone planning a very special holiday or convalescing or cannot climb stairs? Find a more thoughtfully inclusive rental. The new owner seems to use his newly purchased status as an excuse for shoddy maintenance issues and reimbursement denial to those harmed by his cavalier attitude, possible ineptitude, and failures. Great family get away that has it all... We stayed in the LeLe Penthouse - our entire family - kids stayed upstairs in the loft, and they loved it - all the adults had their own bedrooms suites. This was great accommodations for all families. Pool was lovely, just steps to the beach, toys and boogie boards were readily available for us. And the Yoga studio downstairs was amazing - as a yoga teacher myself, I will be back for a Yoga retreat. The studio was great - it had it all - infrared heaters, mats, blocks, straps! We did have 1 issue with the toilet not properly flushing - however, management was on it within 1 hour, they had a plumber there to fix it. No disruption to us what so ever! The management staff was so kind to us, they helped unload our groceries, went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable, happy and had everything we needed. Truly a nice, friendly management staff. ALL AROUND - lovely home to stay in with attention to every detail in a great location for a family or a group of friends. My family and I just returned from our second stay at the Wailea Inn. This property has become our go-to for Maui. The location could not be better, there are multiple beaches within walking distance as well as shopping and some of the best dining options for all budgets. The property is well equipped and includes all the beach equipment you could need. The staff is friendly and do a great job at making themselves available to answer any questions you may have. I would highly recommend this property to anyone planning a Maui vacation and we look forward to returning again next year. read more

Our stay at the Wailea inn was absolutely amazing. The property managers and staff were very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed on a daily basis. The amenities were beyond our expectations. The penthouse unit had a beautiful spanning kitchen with all the necessities. The property provided all of our needs for a great day at the nearby beach; beach chairs, snorkeling equipment, umbrellas, and boogie boards. An added bonus that I greatly respect is that this is the first vacation rental that we've stayed at that is operating on renewable energy. Overall we had amazing experience and would highly recommend the Wailea Inn to any of our friends and family. read more
