The roach we killed in our in bedroom
    Kaptain K.

This is not a luxury experience. This was my first time in Hawaii and because of this rental, it was ruined. This was a family vacation and I was housed in the Ohana Hale house/suite. There were roaches and an ant infestation in our bathroom, living room and kitchen. Not to mention at some point there was a frog in our bed and we had to wait over 20 hours to get our rooms sprayed with insect spray and our sheets changed (we booked for a week and had only one set of towels and sheets for each room). Property management/owners did nothing to ease our stay after being notified and shown the evidence of our infestation problems. One of the owners "Randy" visited the property without letting any of us know she would be stopping by (so technically they were intruding), simply to borrow a hand mixer from one of the kitchens-we felt very unsafe and constantly exposed by not knowing who was going to stop by because we also didn't know who (in Wailea Inn management) had a key. The pool cleaner(s) also come at an inconvenient time and the owners will not inform you upon their arrival or even give you a head up. There was a terrible flood/rain storm at some poor in our stay and it knocked out our power and flooded the yoga room & basement rooms (which was housing a husband, wife, 2 toddlers and an infant) with our plumbing so raw sewage and human waste. WE had to be the ones to reach out the owners to let them know of the issue and even then there was not an adequate amount of effort being put forth to make up for our troubles. Absolutely no refunds were given or even considered for all of our major problems with our stay. This place is not at all recommended. Please find another place to spend your time in Wailea because this is far from the luxury, relaxation you're envisioning

My son and I were still in the pool on July 6th or 7th at ~8:20pm. I wasn't paying attention to the time. We were on vacation having a good time. Well I later realized the pool closes at 8pm and I genuinely hadn't noticed the posted sign. An employee (an elderly haole man) came outside and yelled "GET OUT OF THE POOL!!" to which I immediately replied, "OK I'm sorry sir, we are getting out, my apologies I wasn't aware of the time" and we IMMEDIATELY started leaving the pool. Despite that, he continued yelling "GET OUT OF THE POOL!!" I am not kidding he yelled at the top of his lungs at least 5x more times. To the point that I responded that we were already getting out and had apologized, and that repeating it was unnecessary. His response was, "Well, you guys don't know how to read the sign, so you clearly need to be told several times." Wow. I completely understand the pool has posted hours and have no issue being asked to leave once I realized it was closed. That part was my mistake. What was disappointing was the way my 11 year old son and I were treated after we immediately complied. There was no reason to repeatedly yell at us or make disrespectful comments. Guests deserve to be treated with courtesy, even when they've made an honest mistake. I hope management addresses how guests are spoken to, because this interaction left a very negative impression. As a suggestion, it might help to automatically turn the pool lights off (if this happened we would have left immediately) and/or disable the gate keypad when the pool closes. We honestly didn't realize the posted hours and those changes would make it much more obvious that the pool was closed while also preventing situations like this. Because of this my family and I will never stay here again. There are plenty of other options just as good or better on Maui. TLDR: The pool closes at 8pm! If in the pool after be prepared to get yelled at by the staff repeatedly with disrespectful comments made to you and your children.

And her response to our bad review was exaggerated and untruthful. She obviously took it personal even though we said she was kind in our review. I do not recommend her or their Kihei rental house. It had nothing to do with the extra $100 cleaning fee, that's just hilarious. For the money we paid to stay here the house just wasn't worth it. Do yourself a favor and rent elsewhere if you want a good experience, clean house, and a stress free vacation and deposit refund. We also rented through another vacation rental company the week before renting Sherry's Kihei home right next door and had zero problems or complaints about them or from them. We loved the amenities at the Royal Kahana. Whenever we had questions where to eat or what to do the team at Emerald Kite just jumped right in. Highly recommend Maui and the Emerald Kite Welcome team just helped make the trip better as we didnt know a lot about the area and with Emerald Kite's help, we made the most of our time! I would suggest if you don't live on the west coast stay at least 7 nights because the flight was long and takes a day or so to recover. Can't wait to take our grandkids back!

Apparently they got rid of the carpet everywhere except the bedrooms. We had a studio unit this time so we had no carpeting. That was wonderful. (The carpets used to be gross. There's no other word for it-- and I know keeping them clean is challenging in a tropical environment) they do provide a floor sweeper on rollers, but we did not find that to be very effective. A broom would have been more effective and definitely quieter. In the unit of us, the people decided to use the sweeper at about 6:30 AM and it was very loud. We found it doesn't pick up the fine sand that blows in very well. There are still a few weird quirks. We have an outlet that didn't work at all (unfortunately right next to the bed) a light switch in the kitchen, which appeared to be possessed, and plumbing fixtures, which were pretty low budget--loose, leaked, etc. But all in all, things worked pretty well. There was a chemical smell in our room which persisted for the first week of our stay. Perhaps a pesticide treatment? We tried to keep it aired out as much as we could. The air conditioning units have been replaced! At least in the building were in. Hallelujah! Quiet and effective! The grounds were in great shape. The pool was well kept and clean. They were quite a few kids, but everybody seemed to obey the rules, which was great. The flies at the pool. Yep. Still a problem. Unusually aggressive flies, and if you sit in the sun right after you get out of the water, you could have 100 of them trying to land on you. Not an exaggeration! I'm not sure where they're coming from. We have friends staying about a block from here and we don't have that issue at their pool. I'm mystified-- since this was our experience last time as well. And we never have them when we sit out on the balcony, even if we are eating dinner! Here is where we have the biggest gripe: the "owner update." It was so upsetting this time that I just don't know if we can stay here again. Worldmark, like many other timeshares, is not doing well financially. We were told that this would translate into our heirs being responsible for an ever increasing (15%/yr) maintenance fee, even if they did not inherit our shares. Of course *if* we bought more for $42,000 and convert our shares into the "new kind" we could prevent this. We immediately contacted an attorney who assured us this was not the case. But the whole thing just left a bad taste in our mouth. There is always an angle. They will always tell you that what you bought last time is no longer good anymore and you absolutely need to buy more. NEVER AGAIN. This is the first time we ever stayed in the studio. We think we prefer the one bedroom but, we realize this was our choice. I'll give you some information here in case you're trying to make the same choice. As stated previously, the studio has no carpeting. That's wonderful. It's quite spacious. The bed is a Murphy bed, which is the type that pulls down from the wall. That's kind of a mixed bag. There's no headboard so your pillows can drop behind it if you're not careful. You also can't really sit up in bed and lean against the headboard or wall because there's a big gap. I'm not really a fan of a Murphy bed, but it was comfortable. We also like the fact that the bed was in the back of the unit. In the one bedroom, it's towards the front of the unit, so you hear all the noise from the hallways, etc. We didn't have to deal with any of that. The kitchen was about the same size as the one bedroom as was the bathroom. The couch was more of just a loveseat for two people, but that was fine for us. So overall a little bit less living space but perfectly fine for two people. You wouldn't want to entertain guests or anything. The units are not quiet. If you have anybody above you, you will hear every step they take, and if there are children that can be a lot of steps and a lot of noise. If something falls on the floor, it will sound like it is right next to you. But I think most of us know that. I mean, this is definitely a family place, not a place for quiet. My suggestion would be to ask for an upper unit if this is a concern. Man, we love Maui and we love this area. We love the people that work at Worldmark. This place is not perfect, but they are clearly working on it. The entire owner update scenario is horrendous and I'm wondering how many people leave for a very bad taste in their mouth. It's so much worse here than anywhere else. I just wish some of these issues could be addressed.
