We ordered pizza over the phone for pickup, which was very fast. 25 min was the time we were told and they were correct. We had a medium veggie pizza and while the toppings were pretty light the pizza tasted very good. They were hosting a birthday party so it was pretty loud. We took it back to our hotel. Only pizza place in town. Story goes a biker gang came to town in early 80's and stayed opening up this pizza shop and just recently sold to new owner. We had a large Work's pizza and a large salad. Great crust from the oven but a little lite on the toppings. Tasted good and salads was good too. Reasonably priced but no delivery. New owner takes over soon so no promises on future foods. They are keeping on the manager so guess it will be similar. Recommend this place. read more

The pizza was perfect - crispy bottom to a tasty crust topped with fresh ingredients and flavorful sauce! Though they could have used a few more hands as the dinner rush heated up, the ladies were friendly and accommodating. You order at the counter and it's delivered to your table. For six people with drinks and enough leftovers for the next day, we were happily surprised at the bill of just over $50. First off, let me state that I was asked to do a review of Wagon Wheel by an anonymous commentor on my food blog page for Thatzza Pizza, a newly opened pizza competitor for Wagon Wheel. Remember folks, I'm a pizza snob and very tough when it comes to pizza reviews. I've traveled to many places in and out of the United States, and trying pizza whenever I could was always on the list of things to do. Wagon Wheel Pizza was established in 1984 and is owned by Susan, a former resident of Florida. When entering Wagon Wheel, it looks like a typical pizzeria with booths lining one wall and a few tables here or there. After about a 5 minute wait while Susan finished prepping a pizza for the oven, my order was taken, and questions answered, with a friendly smile. I was told my order would be ready in 25 minutes, but it actually took 45 minutes which gave me time to see some of my food prepared. The Meatball Sandwich consists of three frozen 2" meatballs that are defrosted in the microwave, mixed with sauce and then heated again in the microwave. They are sliced in half, placed on an untoasted 6" sub roll and garnished with slices of green bell pepper and onion. Once unwrapped, the sub cannot be picked up to be eaten as it has become a "hot mess" with the roll falling apart from not being toasted. A fork is a must if you order this sandwich. If you want chicken wings, you must ask for them as they are not listed on the menu; they come with a choice of two sauces: hot or bbq. They are baked on parchment paper, so do not expect a crisp texture since the wings are basically steaming in the fat coming off the wings and caught on the paper. While the chicken was fully cooked with a mild bbq flavor, the thick, gummy skin was totally unappealing. The pizza at Wagon Wheel does not use the typical Utah style of crust, namely focaccia bread. The crust is thinner, allowing for a browned and crispy texture. The sauce, while having a good flavor and you can see the herbs, is smeared thin; the cheese is thick, but not the creamy, gooey type that one associates with pizza. To get a single bite of cheese with crust, you must completely bite through the slice, or the cheese comes sliding off in a complete sheet. As the pizza cools, the cheese congeals more and the crust becomes very tough. To be fair, I have to say that Susan was busy prepping food, checking on the oven, plating food, while her two workers were either filling salt and pepper shakers, or filling a drink order for 8 people - 2 drinks at a time; guess the employee didn't know how to carry a tray. The drink order employee then completed the meatball sandwich; was going to put it in the oven for toasting and then changed her mind. That was a big mistake in my book. read more

It was late and we were tired from driving 9 hrs and wanted to get something quick to eat so we could get back to the motel, swim and go to bed. Options were extremely limited in Monticello on the main highway, but this place was close and had indoor seating so we gave it a try. The service was ok but although they didn't appear to be busy they said it would be 30 min before our pizza was ready. My wife got a small side salad which got served right away. She thought it was strange that it came loaded with sliced mushrooms and black olives, neither of which she likes. Even if she did, it seemed odd to have these toppings on a salad. The 30 minute wait was accurate. We had wanted 1/2 cheese and 1/2 with sausage, green peppers and onions. They were out of green peppers and based on the amount of sausage on our 1/2, they must have been running low on that as well. all covered with a thick layer of cheese (over did the cheese). The taste was just average. The price was reasonable, less than we normally pay for pizza and drinks so that was good. We don't plan on going back to Monticello anytime soon other than just passing thru but if we were stuck there in a snowstorm, we would eat there again. read more

This is a two part review, one for the food and one for the people. The food was what I expected for a pizza place in small town Utah. I had "French Bread Pizza". It was mediocre at best. My son had a small "Personal Pizza" and it too was mediocre. My wife and daughter both had "Turnovers" which is a version of a stromboli. They were really good. If we're ever back in Monticello I'll order that. The crust on the pizza was nothing special, neither were the sauce, cheese or toppings. All were good. Now for the people. They were EXCEPTIONAL! The reason we were in Monticello is because our van died as we were driving home from Northern Utah. We were stranded in Monticello. So we went to Wagon Wheel Pizza for a quick dinner as we were figuring out how to get the four of us and our dog home. As we waited my wife told our sad tale to the lady working there. The lady then called one of the other employees who in turn called several people to see if anyone could help us in our predicament. That was Saturday afternoon/evening. Sunday morning we got a call from a friend of the second employee that volunteered to drive us home... 3 1/2 hours! Then he had to drive back to Monticello another 3 1/2 hours. If it weren't for the employees of Wagon Wheel Pizza it might have been another day or two for us to get home. Good pizza in a small town. My review is based on a decent pizza, great prices, and excellent service. First off, the pizza was pretty good. They roll out every pizza dough crust fresh to order. I love that you can order a mini pizza. It was the perfect size for me. My pizza was hot, fresh, and the crust was crispy. The service was superb. There were two young kids working the tables and counter with the owner managing the kitchen. They both were extremely friendly and did a great job preparing my order. For less than $5.50 I got a mini pizza and a coke. I was surprised how affordable it was, especially for being in Monticello. I would definitely return for another pizza. read more

After a hard day of climbing cracks at Indian Creek, I wanted pizza. Wagon Wheel is about what you would expect- decent pizza in a town with limited options. I tried two pizzas- pepperoni with pineapple and the taco pizza, both without cheese. The crust is pretty good and the taco pizza has tons of flavor! The atmosphere of the little restaurant is what you would expect in a small rural town. A little run down, but clean. Decent pizza. They messed up our order, we ordered one large with the works, no onion and 1/2 without olives. It had onion and olives on the entire pizza. They made my husband an entirely new pizza (small) to accommodate the things he couldn't eat. The didn't charge for either pizza. The bathrooms need a bit of a deep cleaning, but overall it was ok.
