Thank goodness for Yelp, which suggested Patio Drive-In for dinner. To be clear, it's not a drive-in in the sense of the Fifties drive-ins; no one's coming out to your car to take your order and bring you a burger on roller-skates. You park in the lot, and order at the counter. Their milkshakes are some of the best I've ever had; the staff suggested "Caramel Cheesecake", which was out of this world. Each milkshake can be custom designed and made to order. Trying to be healthy, I also ordered a Chicken Salad Wrap, which was good. It's a Fifities vibe inside, with cute decor. The staff was great. So friendly and helpful. Burgers were ok. Not great, ok. A little disappointed in the quality of the meat. It didn't seem like a hand pressed burger. I didn't feel it was worth the cost. Fries were good and served hot. The shakes were awsome. Don't get me wrong, the burgers were fine, just not up to the hype. The classic c is pretty tasty. The grilled chicken is also good. Don't bother with the burgers. My husband said the Philly cheesesteak was ok. We ate dinner here after a long sunny day in the monument and were very hungry! Luckily even though she switched the wait time light to 40 minutes when we ordered, it only took 20 minutes to get our food. The trivial pursuit cards on each table are a fun way to pass the time. My southwest chicken sandwich was good (even though sour cream on a sandwich is a little strange) and others enjoyed the Philly and the chili burger. The fries were fresh and delicious! We stopped in for dinner. The place gives off an older dinner vibe. You order your food at a counter and get a number to place on your table so they know where to bring the food out to. The ordering counter has a light system to give you an idea of the wait on food. My girls opted for a kids burger and chicken strips with fries. My hubby got a bacon and guacamole burger with fries and I got a chicken and quac sandwich. We all of course opted for milkshakes. We ended up with an Oreo, Butterfinger, Hot Fudge, and Banana Split. The amazing ambience is only enhanced by the phone that rings here every 10 seconds for 10 seconds. However no one ever picks up. At best the food was just OK. A big disappointment was the "milk shake". It was thick because it was basically some soft serve in a cup with a spoon. It was not a "milk shake" by any definition. They listed many flavors on their online menu but after asking for a couple and told they did not have that flavor I just settled for vanilla. I got the bacon blue cheeseburger. It was OK but it was just a burger with some bottled blue cheese salad dressing poured on top. I was hoping for actual blue cheese crumbles. The hand cut fries were very good. For $23 it was eatable but disappointing. I ordered on line but their website page did not have many menu items on it and no pricing either. Let me start by saying that the food at Patio isn't half bad, particularly the desserts. We got a grilled cheese sandwich with bacon, served with french fries, and a chicken cheese steak, along with coconut custard concretes. The concretes were terrific; the sandwiches were decent. Service was slow but friendly. My real issue with this place--and it is NOT a minor one--is that it is doing absolutely nothing--ZERO--to keep patrons safe during the COVID pandemic. They even have a sign on their front door proclaiming that their staff members may or may not choose to wear a mask (2 did, the rest did not) AND that customers are free to wear a mask or not (not a single one of them did, and there was no social distancing inside). Curly fries were unique and very good. Their selection of sodas is also great, and the black cherry soda was amazing. Though my daughter liked her kids' burger, my son and I weren't fans of our sandwiches. The chili burger just has a large grilled green chili on top of it, I was under the impression it was green chili as in the sauce. Not worth the price at $17 for a burger fries and drink. The steak and cheese was good, but they tried to charge me 50 cents for hot sauce that should come with it. Guess that's what I get for tipping when I shouldn't have.... Simple & satisfying. The menu at Patio is short and straightforward, consisting mostly of burgers and a couple of loaded fries plates. I like it when restaurants make it clear what you should be ordering. The burger was a decent 'fast food plus' type of burger. Thin patties, soft bun, crisp veggies. The dish that would definitely make me return is their loaded curly fries. Their curly fries were more like twisted potato wedges, which worked really well with the tasty bean and beef chilly, great guac, and other toppings. The battered onion rings were very enjoyable as well. You can tell that at Patio they do try to make simple things taste great, and they did.
