The service wasn't fast, but not slow either, and we weren't in any hurry so we were happy with the speed of service. The restaurant was clean, and not loud or crowded, even though all of the tables were full. Don't be fooled by pics of the bar -there wasn't a drop of hard liquor to be found anywhere in town - it's apparently outlawed, lol. Only beer and wine available.

Staff…read moreacted like we were interrupting their very important TikTok scrolling session--barely looked up when taking the order, zero smiles, one-word answers, and straight-up rolled their eyes when I asked for extra sauce. Probably because I heard they make them share tips with the back crew. Pay the back crew better then. The meat? Dry as a cardboard box left in the Nevada sun for three summers. Brisket had the texture of an old boot sole and somehow zero smoke flavor--like they forgot to turn the smoker on. Ribs were tough, overcooked, and tasted mostly of disappointment. Coleslaw was just sad shredded cabbage swimming in watery mayo. Beans were straight from a can with zero seasoning. Even the sweet tea tasted like someone stirred it with regret. $18 for a two-meat plate that made me wish I'd just eaten gas station jerky instead. Place sucked. Atmosphere sucked. Food sucked. Would not return even if they paid me. 0/10, do not recommend unless you hate yourself

I had…read morejust got a speeding ticket and wanted to get out of the car and enjoy a coffee beverage somewhere. High Desert Cafe looked inviting, so we made a stop here. This place is pretty cool. The outside of the building is very colorful. High Desert Cafe is a coffee shop, gift shop and diner all in one building. We first checked out the gift shop area before getting our coffee. They have a number of shirts, blankets, jewelry, local stones and art for sale. High Desert Cafe has two separate counters - one for coffee and tea drinks and the other one for food. The food menu has a variety of sandwiches, burgers, salads, breakfast items, smoothies and ice cream. It was early, so we ordered breakfast burritos and coffee on it. The kitchen staff was nice and chatted with us while they cooked our food. There is a small dining area where you can eat your meal when it is ready. High Desert Cafe is a nice hidden gem to stop by if you are passing through Monticello.

They had all the basic breakfast items, things like omelettes and pancakes, etc. They had a decent list of drinks too, and even though it wasn't on the menu they did make me a lavender london fog since they had the ingredients for it. The food was very filling and I left happy! The inside gives off a diner vibe, but slightly more upscale/indie? And they sell some independent products (e.g. lip balm, recipe books, etc.). Bathroom was pretty decent too, but there's only one stall so note that you may have to wait if a few folks are also dining there (was pretty quiet the random weekday morning I cam though). Plenty of free street parking available outside too. Overall it's a cute little spot for brunch if you're passing through Monticello.

Service was great- even though I stopped by close to closing, staff was so friendly and the food was still served steaming hot. I got the pork pad thai and it was below average. The pork tasted stale, rancid, and gamey. The dish noodles themselves were just ok. Ambiance was calm, servers were sweet. They only had one chef, didn't have sushi and a number of other dishes when I went in on a Friday afternoon, though. Not sure if it was poor timing or if it is usually like that. Bottom line: This may be a historically local favorite, but it is certainly not up to par with other places. Apparently the quality has gone down over the last couple years, unsure what changed. If you're visiting from out of town and are craving Thai food, go to Arches Thai in Moab, UT - WAY better food for similar price. It is worth the extra drive, trust me.

The four of us all had different things, and nobody had any complaints. My breakfast burrito was a little unconventional (a green chili sauce and a spicy gravy on the side) but very, very good. SERVICE: Okay, friendly, maybe a little inexperienced. Also waited a long time to have the check-and-card picked up (ended up going to the front counter). AMBIANCE: It's a cafe. The windows overlook a big dirt parking lot. The place was clean and tidy, though, and I was looking for a good breakfast, not a luxurious setting. NET-NET: I would go back any time I was passing through. Our friends recommended it, and I will, too.

The food was fresh, local and out of this world amazing. We got the blue corn pancakes with wild blueberries. We all agreed they the were the best pancakes ever. This was the best meal we had on our 10 day trip. Make sure you call as the hours are funky and they are closed Wednesday and Thursdays. You will not retreat your decision to stop. PS The Bluff Fort was also a sleeper surprise for us. Standout of the trip.

My partner and I both ordered the Cowboy Jalapeño Cheeseburger. He had the tater tots and a large soda, and I went with the french fries and a large chocolate shake. The burger absolutely blew me away. I love a good burger, and this one shot straight to the top of my list. It was juicy, flavorful, perfectly messy, and worth every napkin. And the fries... don't even get me started. I honestly don't think I've ever had fries quite like these. Crispy on the outside, fluffy inside, and incredibly addictive. This place just screams local in all the best ways. There's no indoor seating but there are plenty of shaded picnic tables outside that make for a great place to enjoy your meal. Summer hours are 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. If you're anywhere near Moab, do yourself a favor and stop here. This is the kind of burger you'll be thinking about long after you've left town.
