There are very few real bakeries on the south side of the City. By that I mean bakeries that sell a…read morevariety of breads. We have lots of places that sell pastries but not bread. Of course for those who want white bread there is an ample supply at any grocer. But if you want real bread such as sourdough, multi-grain, whole wheat, rye or maybe even pumpernickel, the choice is usually to drive to Bon Ton in the west end. Vienna is a rare exception. Here you can get loaves of most of the the fine breads. They seem to carry a lot of rye breads. Some of them are as soft and aromatic as a good sourdough and others are so heavy that they could double as a weapon if needed. Vienna also carries lots of buns and specialty items including some pastries. The pastries are okay but that is clearly not their specialty. This is a bread place. They run out of some kinds of breads early to minimize waste and day-olds so go early to ensure that you get what you want. Service is always quick and friendly. Now the problem with Vienna Bakery is with their location. They have found the most inaccessible location in the City. There is one entrance which also serves as the only exit. Most people will probably access it my heading north on Gateway Blvd. You have one chance to turn right on 61 Avenue which will look like a back alley. If you miss it don't take the next right which is Argyll Rd as there is no access there. Those drivers who are particularly good at following their GPS's instructions can come via Calgary Trail, by turning soon after crossing Argyll but they must then wind around an old industrial area before reaching the lights at 61 Ave. Exiting from Vienna means you'll either go north on Gateway Blvd or wait at the lights before crossing Gateway and winding through that industrial area and, if you didn't turn too soon, you'll end up at Calgary Trail southbound. Seriously it's tricky. Needless to say there is always lots of parking for the few people who successfully reached this place. I should also mention that if you make the correct turn you will probably think you've errored because you'll just see loading docks. You have to drive through the narrow gap between two buildings to see the front. Good luck. I considered giving them four stars for generally good bread but decided to make it only three on account of the location. Bread should not be this hard to find.

They will deliver your order to your table. They have a wide selection of pastries and desserts as well as food items. They have a Ukrainian breakfast menu as well as an American breakfast menu. They also have a freezer with homemade frozen goods you can purchase. Prices are on par with most restaurants/coffee shops. Everything looked SO tasty, it was very hard to make a decision. I ended up getting a the mushroom egg toast that came with salad, potatoes, and I added a sausage on the side. The food was sooo good and extremely filling. The potatoes were AMAZING! I ate around 1 and didn't eat dinner that night since I was still full. I also ordered a lavender latte, and got a lemon blueberry cake to go. Their coffee was delicious and you could actually taste the lavender flavour. I've gone to some places where the flavouring was almost non-existent. The cake was also quite nice. Definitely a looker but I wish the flavor was stronger and that there were Choc chips throughout and not just on-top. It was melting your mouth as expected. The caramel square was Amazing. Soft definitely homemade caramel on-top a soft cookie crust. The proportion of cookie to caramel was spot on. I would definitely buy the Carmel on its own if that becomes an option!
