Atmosphere & Ambience…read more Peggy's Diner #2 embraces a retro charm, with an unironic 70s-80s vibe that feels both nostalgic and lived-in. The dining area is open, and diners seat themselves--adding to the laid-back, come-as-you-are feel. The atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly, drawing a steady crowd of locals and retirees. Televisions quietly play the local news, blending into the background without being disruptive. ‍ Service The service at Peggy's Diner #2 is warm and attentive. The waitress was quick to bring coffee and water, setting a comfortable and unhurried pace for the meal. Staff greet locals by name and engage in easy conversation, creating a neighborly atmosphere reminiscent of a barber shop or a bench on the town square. It's the kind of place where regulars feel known and newcomers feel welcome. Food & Drinks The coffee came out quickly in a generous, no-nonsense mug--just what you'd expect from a place like this. It's a classic cup: reliable, familiar, and ready to refill. For breakfast, the two eggs over medium were cooked just right--simple and satisfying. The fried fish was the clear highlight: golden, crisp, and flaky, it was prepared perfectly and ranks among the best I've had. It's consistently good here, a true standout. The grits were creamy and comforting, served in the traditional Southern style. A biscuit came on the side--soft and familiar, a nice addition even if not especially memorable. Value for Money The portions were generous, and at just $9 for the plate, it felt like a steal. For the quality--especially the perfectly fried fish and classic Southern sides--it's an exceptionally reasonable price. Peggy's Diner #2 delivers real value without cutting corners. I'll definitely be back. If you're looking for a hearty, home-cooked meal that tastes like something grandma would've made, this is your spot.

The menu is filled with scratch-made Southern fare as well as cocktails, craft beer, coffee, and specialty lattes courtesy of Mel's Morning Surge. The restaurant also has a jam bar which features 4 different scratch-made jams: blueberry lavender, strawberry basil, red pepper, ginger peach and butters: maple, regular, sweet potato, and pecan. I wasn't able to try these on my first visit, but will most definitely try these on my second. The staff made a good impression, too. They were pleasant, knowledgeable about their menu items and welcoming. The items I tried that were instant faves: THE HANGOVER - Buttermilk biscuit, fried chicken, bacon, scrambled eggs, candied jalapeños, topped with homemade gravy. BANANA PECAN PANCAKES - 3 pancakes, bananas, candied pecans, cream cheese frosting, caramel syrup, pecan butter. CINNAMON ROLL LATTE - ($5) - courtesy of Mel's Morning Surge, the restaurant's in-house vendor, which offers lattes, both traditional and seasonal*, in the following flavors: vanilla, caramel, hazelnut, mocha, white mocha, toasted marshmallow*, pumpkin spice*, and apple crisp*.

The location was perfect--just a short walk from our downtown hotel. The restaurant had a great vibe, the food was excellent, and our server was friendly and attentive. We grabbed seats at the bar, which made for a relaxed start to the morning. I ordered a coffee along with the avocado toast and served with an egg and fresh fruit, plus a side biscuit. I was trying to keep things on the healthier side, and it turned out to be a great choice. The avocado toast was delicious, and I loved the addition of fresh pico on top--it added a nice burst of flavor. My buddy went with a more traditional breakfast of eggs, bacon, grits, and a waffle. Honestly, the waffle alone looked like it could have been my breakfast! According to John, it tasted just as good as it looked. If you're looking for a great breakfast spot in downtown Greenville, this place is definitely worth checking out!

The Greer Diner Greer, South Carolina…read more My wife, son, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, and I tried the newly opened Greer Diner on Trade Street (formally the three-generation family-owned restaurant "Cannon's"). They aren't a month old yet having opened December 19, 2025. They had heard about this fried bologna sandwich and they wanted to try it. Being a Chicago Yankee, I passed whole-heartedly. Just over the tracks from the brick-paved Trade Street of Downtown Greer, sits a little red brick building with a long front porch. Corner lot number 409 Trade Street. Up the ramp are several old style picnic tables. Inside are two rooms of booths on the left, an old fashioned bar with eight stools in the middle, and a few side tables on the right. The walls are fresh and white. Other than a retro-vintage 50's style logo on a wall complete with script font, I don't recall any other decor. We were welcomed as soon as we stepped in from the staff behind the bar running about making food. The Sunday evening crowd was hopping. My wife, her sister, and our brother-in-law all got the fried bologna sandwich. To quote my sister-in-law, "I loved the concept of it. It was pretty good!" She also did a to-go order of veggies (fried okra, creamed corn, mashed potatoes) and they were good too. The sandwich was a good sized portion with shaved pieces of bologna, house-smoked and grilled, with American cheese, country hearth white bread, mustard, lettuce, and covered with BBQ chips! Meaty, hearty, juicy, charred in places, and crisp-crunchy! Served in a little basket with that faux newsprint. Adorable. My son got the smash burger and said it was a good choice, he did the double patty, so it was a sizable sandwich. All four of them upgraded to fries, extra crispy. I tried a few of them and they were fine. I got the Calabash Chicken Basket. I decent-sized portion of tender and juicy chunks of chicken in a peppery breading, fried just right. It comes with Texas toast, so I made one chicken chunk into a sammie. My side was mac & cheese. Definitely home-made. A little tough, needed more cheddar cheese to cover all the elbow noodles. But definitely a throw back to the old Fatz Calabash chicken taste. The wait was a little longer than expected, but the waitress couldn't have been nicer. Constantly coming by to refill all of our drinks and at the end, sent us off with to-go refills. I love that. I saw on their Facebook page fixings for ice cream and/or shakes, but I didn't see that on the menu. I want to go back and try the shrimp, fish & chips, Nashville Hot, and the chili. The jumbo wings sound good too, and at just over $1 a wing, it's workable (remember when wings were cheap give-aways at 25¢ each?). Oh, and the onion rings look great. It's definitely a quality mid-century dinner that could have appeared in "American Graffiti." And this close to the glut of high-priced eateries of downtown, this one is a casual, affordable choice. Closed Mondays Open Sunday-Thursday 11-8 Friday-Saturday 11-9
