    a cup of coffee

Easy on and off of I -55, on the east side of the road. Very busy place on Saturday morning, turning out fresh, hot food. There were people waiting for tables, we chose the last two places at the counter. They had a lot of employees, at least one training. My husband ordered and when I said I didn't want anything, all the items were too much, Vee, the waitress, said she could do a senior meal, I chose a scrambled egg and bacon. I am sure glad she was so helpful, the scrambled egg was perfectly cooked and bacon tasty. I watched fresh eggs being cracked and personally cooked. I saw fresh bacon being peeled off and put in the grill, covered by a cast iron weight. The scrambled egg was made in a small iron skillet. The over easy egg for my husband's sandwich was made in a small sauté pan. My husband's hash brown popped and jumped when first placed in the griddle, when turned, a lovely golden brown. The show the hash brown put in was worth the stop! My husband's sandwich was good looking and tasty. Coffee was hot and refilled. The cook was the hardest working person I ever saw, she made at least 30 plates while I watched. Our food came pretty fast, and it was hot. I did see pork chops cooking on the grill, they looked delicious when they were served to the guy next to me. I am see where service could be a problem, it was total chaos when I was there, we had excellent service and food. Am bookmarking it so I can stop again!

No where to park (BEWARE FIRST TIME CUSTOMERS) So we just went through the drive through. We pull up without knowing what to get (I know, my bad). We asked the **thrilled** employee working there what she would recommend. She suggest butterscotch (didn't elaborate further). She didn't have the best personality, but she got the job done. I ordered ice cream in a cup and the friend ordered a pineapple milkshake. The portion of ice cream was unfathomable. It was probably equal to a WHOLE carton of ice cream. So much so that I had to dump out majority of it in the parking lot of some government building (sorry!!). Friend liked the shake, but mentioned that it had hints of lactaid. I was done with the ice cream in under 10 minutes after it dripped everywhere. They do no offer toppings for the plain soft serve whatsoever. So who in their right mind can just eat mounds of straight vanilla?!?! My Diet Coke made up for the ice cream however I had only about two sips of it because of how much ice they put in it. Anyways, maybe it was a case of not ordering the right thing, or not getting fantastic service, or maybe this place is just overrated.

This trip the place was slow and we were seated quickly in the front. The younger waitress did an okay job. She was very friendly and the food was acceptable. I asked what she recommended and she said the Mexican Breakfast I believe is what it was called. It wasn't a fancy Tex Mex type of a meal, nothing with beaucoup seasoning flair etc but I appreciated the simple authenticity of the meal. It was simple and really hit the spot. Also it was something I never would have ordered if she hadn't recommended it. I would have to agree as another reviewer mentioned, they could REALLY work on making things HOT rather than warm. Especially the coffee. The atmosphere is what you would expect from a mom and pop breakfast place with a reserved booth for staff where they hang out in the corner. I'm not sure if the overall service here improved or not yet tbh but the younger waitress did a much better job than my previous trips and I think they might have read some of the past reviews. I would like to leave 3.5 stars but that's not and option. To be fair I believe the young lady earned them more than 3 stars but I can't give this 4 stars so 3 it is.

Liz came by the table to say hi to my mother in law and to meet us all. I started my meal with a spicy Bloody Mary and then had the Seafood Scramble with Spicy Hollandaise and a side of Cheesy Grits. The scramble had a good amount of eggs and seafood and the sauce had a nice level of seasoning. I would've loved to have the biscuit that came but I saved it for my son since he can eat gluten. That biscuit looked soft and fluffy. I loved my egg dish. My son had a Cheeseburger with Sweet Potato Fries and my brother in law had the Grilled Cheese and Crab Sandwich. They both looked great and apparently were delicious. The Shrimp and Grits and Debris Eggs Benedict were awesome too. We will definitely be back on our next trip if not another day this week.

Liz's exterior appears a little downtrodden and parking a bit limited, but inside is welcoming with a bright and shiny Louisiana ambiance. We had excellent service and Liz herself dropped by and welcomed us. We ordered a variety of specialties, with me enjoying an egg scrambler with all the trimmings, my wife having a sumptuous roast beef po'boy and my son having a burger and fries. All were very good and our iced tea glasses were never allowed to be empty. We were seated immediately, but business is brisk and you may need to be prepared to wait at peak times. We look forward to returning!
