I have been to the bar at the W a few times now and while never blown away, found it decent and was willing to go there if people I was going out with really wanted to go. That was until this past Sunday...I was taking my parents out to dinner in the Theater District and thought it would be fun to take them somewhere a little upscale for a drink beforehand. We got a table fairly quickly and then we waited about 5 minutes for a cocktail waitress, which was fine, but then after we placed our order with her she up and disappeared for literally 25 minutes! I have no idea what happened, it wasn't just that maybe the bar was too busy to make service drinks or she forgot the order...she was completely gone from the lounge. We finally ended up going to the bar to tell them we didn't have our drinks pushing 30 minutes after having ordered them. 5 minutes after that she shows up with the drinks and asks my father if he would like a glass for his beer, to which he replied yes. 5 minutes after that we ended up having to go back to the bar because they made one of the drinks wrong and still no glass for the beer. None of these things are really the end of the world, but 30 minutes to wait for drinks in an empty bar that touts itself as an upscale, luxury lounge, and charges for it, is ridiculous. It was embarrassing and annoying for me and we were late for our dinner reservation because of it. I will not be back. read more

Kinda cool setting but very cramped. Chainmail screen curtains and fireplace nice touches. Crowd a little on the trying to be uber fashionable and accomplishing pretentious side. You will pay $13.00 for a drink that has almost no liquor in it , and the service staff has no intension to make a customer feel comfortable or happy. Literally the worst service I've ever had. I'm currently still here... Waiting. The cocktail waitress took forever to come to the table. I had to go to the bar, they said they'll send a waitress. Waited for a good 15 mins before she finally came. She wasn't helpful and didn't offer any suggestions. We had to ask her. Finally the food came... The steak wasn't cooked correctly... I wanted medium rare and mine was pretty much done. I've been waiting for her... Or anyone to come check up on us... So I could tell them about my steak... The W Lounge in Boston is a decent place to catch up with friends over a drink. Comfy seats. The burger is pretty good. Calamari is ok. Recommend paying with a credit card. If you love the feel of hotel bars, the W lounge is perfect with sections for large group seating and couples seating along the wall. Of course, high prices since it's in a hotel, I don't know why people don't get this concept yet. But I'd rather pay more than bumping into everyone with over obnoxious loud music. If you like W hotels, they bring their design and feel into the bar with the mood LED lighting and purples and greys. They have great cocktails and my fave is the Bellini. It's a great place to have a drink before or after a theater event or for a casual ladies night. read more

A perfect stop before a night out on the town at any of the close-by clubs on Tremont St. Definitely attracts an upscale crowd, so dress accordingly. I like the W lounge for a number of reasons. It is a large open space with an intimate feel. Each seating area is secluded and you can't hear other table's conversations. There is a nice combination of seats, tables, and couches. There is a fire place. The drink prices are very reasonable. I've always stopped by during the week and they are always busy but never crowded. read more

We went later at night when there was a DJ playing 90's club type music and we had a great time. The younger brunette girl we had as a bartender was great, really nice, made good drinks. The only negative thing was that it's in the hotel lobby area and it took until 930-10 for the guests in giant winter jackets, fur hats and mittens to be replaced by people dressed for a night of going out in Boston. I was there on an off night and the music was loud assisted suicide meets the electronic age. The place was too slick by half. But I could see that if it was packed and I was shopping my junk I'd be smiling all night long. I mean what with all the girls, whom I wouldn't have to listen to cause it's way loud, buying me drinks, which I would never pay that kind of money for myself, and are as strong as the music is loud, putting a huge smile on my face which the fantastic lighting would show to great effect so that more girls would come up and, well you get the idea. Beware. This place is overhyped and dangerously loud. If you come here, there is a good chance you'll damage your hearing and suffer hearing loss. It happened to me. The music is loud. You'll hear it before you walk into the building. Most of the staff wear ear protection, so don't be like me and many others unaware and without it. Wear earplugs. Or, you'll be needing hearing aids. I was there 4/7/18. The food and drinks were overpriced and lackluster. While there is no cover, you pay for it in other ways. The decor is nice. Service is decent. I love this hotel bar. It is a great spot to come for a drink in the afternoon. The raspberry lychee bellini is one of my favorite cocktails in the entire city and lord only knows what they are putting in their French Fries because I often times crave them late at night. The staff is incredibly friendly and the rest of their food menu is decent. Great ambience and great service if you can get a seat on one of their comfy couches. read more

As I entered the restroom before leaving, a busted, blondish (light brown hair?) white man whom I assume was a worker (b/c he used a key to open a bathroom stall) immediately said konichiwa. I told him I'm not Japanese, and he was pissed b/c he's ignorant. I guess I should've said "geia" (hello in Greek) and tell him that I think every white person is Greek and thus should know "hello" in Greek b/c ALL white people speak Greek, just like ALL Asians speak Japanese. The W Lounge was overwhelmed with customers before the show at Boch Center, right across the street, was set to start. Luis was particularly attentive to our table, offering us house-made chips and bread to tide us over until the kitchen was able to accomodate our order. I have heard that the door staff were obnoxious and catered to the privileged types, but I got to see this for myself on Friday. I asked about a coat check, which the hotel must certainly have, and they dismissively said you can't check bags there, basically implying "give it up and leave". While we were having this discussion, 3 different women walked in carrying purses larger than my friend's bag. (I guess Kate Spade is ok, just not Jack Spade). Drink was made by unfriendly male bartender; the girls were friendly, but unfortunately, the only guy behind the bar, took my order. Drink was delivered, and i gave him a $20 dollar bill when it arrived. He took the $20, and never came back; no words were exchanged. After a while, I asked one of the girl tenders how much a Ketel was; She said $12; I said "ok", please tell the guy, that the $8 change was my tip. I would have left it anyway; but the fact that the guy didn't even bring me my change, and assumed that the $8 was his, chapped my ass. Expensive drinks, ill designed, uncomfortable seating (I mean the W hotel chain tries too hard with the whole interior design thing anyway), and spotty service the night I was there (guests were actually going up to the bar asking for the wait staff to come over to take orders - they were too busy being beautiful to care). A very small bar, too - I counted nine stools. It's a huge hotel in a busy area, so I think the bar is really undersized and just poorly laid out. As hotel bars go in Boston there are many better (Oak Room, for example). And why does every W Hotel - at least every one I've been to (NY, FLL, SF) - find it necessary to blare such poor dance music that you can barely carry on a conversation with the person you're with? The crowd is a little too airy and up on themselves for my taste, so I'll be sticking to places that know my name. read more

Went tonight 4/21/15 with 2 other friends to grab a drink at the W Lounge before going to Bijou & we were there for 25 minutes sitting at the bar & the bartenders totally ignored us...two other ladies got there after we did & got attended before we did...I guess we didn't look rich enough for the asshole...we got up & left...never have we been treated so rudely...I can't go back to this place...we were able to get that drink from Rock Bottom across the street...wayyyy nicer bartender...
