I got a Groupon for this place 'cause I needed new glasses and was super excited to come home to get them (I go to school in Champaign). I went on a Saturday afternoon, so it was super busy and I had to wait about an hour until I got serviced. But it was totally worth the wait! The optometrist was very thorough as she gave me an eye exam ($50), a health exam ($30), and a contacts exam ($50). Then, I finally got to pick out my frames! The guy who assisted me was fantastic and helped me pick out these cool trendy two-tone purple glasses (the frames were $199, and no-glare lenses were $120). I also bought some eyedrops they recommended for my dry eyes too ($20). Luckily my mom had insurance to cover the eye and contacts exams and I had a Groupon to cover most of the glasses, so altogether I only had to pay $69!! ONLY $69!!!! Sweet deal!! And since I was going back to school the next day, they said they would ship the glasses to me ASAP! I can't wait to get them! Note: I think this place can be quite expensive if you don't have a Groupon or insurance though, so just be warned! read more

I recently was in chicago on business and decided to finally go in for a checkup. My eyes get tired from looking at the computer screen all day long. I found AO to be convenient, thorough and actually affordable. The biggest plus was they shipped my glasses to me since I would not be in Chicago on the day they were ready. This was a huge plus. I think overall the equipment and procedures were pretty modern and the place was really clean and smelled like it was brand new. The doctor was very knowledgeable even showed me a picture of inside my eyeball. It was pretty cool. I will def go back, although the two pairs of frames I have now I really like. Had a great first experience here. Went here because I had a groupon, I ended up getting an eye exam, and a pair of no line bifocals and the no glare lenses for the whole $59 groupon. The doctor and staff were warm and professional. The Doctor also mentioned if you do not have eye insurance they will work with you to make it affordable. I don't know which Affordables the others went to. Maybe they went to the one in Gurnee, but I just ordered my 3rd pair of glasses. They are so much cheaper than the other eye retailers I priced. The owner (she) sells frames starting at $45. My eye RX was $90, with the anti-glare the total was $137. I don't know anywhere else you can get a bargain like that. As for customer service, I've never had a problem. I gave it 4 stars, because I think she (the owner) should offer one-day service. Instead you have to wait 5 days for the glasses. read more

Constant up-sells if you go here, even if you are on Medicaid. It should be obvious that if I am on Medicaid, that I cannot afford to get a bunch of different extra tests on my eyes, nor can I afford to foot the bill for tinted glasses, nor the anti-glare for the glasses, nor any other up-sell. Plus, when I asked for a copy of my prescription, I was told they would mail it to me as they were busy at the time. Sure, I understand that. A month went by and no prescription in the mail. So I e-mailed them and surprise, there was no distance PD data on the form, just as in the case of another individual who left a review. Surely, VZN should have the record of what it was just a year ago and doubt that there would be a significant change, if any. In addition, they will automatically schedule you for yearly eye exams without consulting you on when you are free to come in. When I cancelled via e-mail, I rec'd the confirmation of cancellation by the staff. Sure, you get a notice ahead of time, but still, consult the patient before it is done for them. I figured that was it. But after a day, I rec'd a follow up e-mail from Dr. Nakhlis herself saying that it was my automatic one year check-up scheduling (not that I signed up for it), and proceeded to lecture me in four paragraphs as to why I should get my eye exam done by her yearly. Is she really that hard up for business that she engages in these practices? I understand she has bills to pay, employees to pay and stuff like that, but still, overall these practices left a bad taste in my mouth. HORRIBLE. Do not Go. Staff is rude. I should have known something was up when it took more than 30 min to make the appointment by phone. We I arrived I was told I had $39 copay. When I called the insurance company, they said everything should be covered; that I must be being charged for something additional. An eye exam and dilation are covered by my insurance. After arriving I was told I would not be seen unless I pay for the $39 eyescan (which is the same test as the free dilation). I was then told to go somewhere else. The staff was very condescending and rude when talking to me. It was a waste of my time. I can't believe they are allowed to force clients to pay for unwanted and unnecessary procedures just to make more money. I felt they were very deceitful. read more

I find it funny that a Dr would write personal pt information responding to my first review and that they would make up that I had a 12 year old daughter when the appointment at the time was for me when I only had a one year old who doesn't wear glasses, makes me wonder! I ordered contacts last Friday. I them I absolutely needed them by Wednesday because I only had 5 pairs left of my dailies. Each time I ordered with them, it only took 2 days for them to receive it so I figured they'd definitely be in Monday for sure, if not Tuesday, and worst case scenario would be Wednesday. They said no problem, they will be in Wednesday if we place the order before the weekend. I said okay great, see you Wednesday. She insisted I do not come in until they call ME. I accepted that, and waited all day Wednesday, all day Thursday, and now it's Friday.. a week later and I still haven't heard from them. I called them numerous times and their voicemail says "closed for training all week until Saturday April 21st" and on top of that, they had no option to leave a voicemail and no alternate number. Didn't the lady think to tell me they'd be closed all of this week?! What lousy customer service. How in the world am I supposed to see?! I have been sleeping in the same pair of contacts 3 nights in a row. I am truly shocked at this customer service and will be going to a different doctor from now on after almost 3 years of coming here. A word of advice to this practice: ORGANIZATION. read more

After years of not having a steady eye doctor I gave Affordable Optical a chance because I moved down the street from them. Since I have a high perscription I was expecting to pay alot for the lenses but I was very pleased with the final cost of my glasses. They look great and so far they've been sturdy and comfortable. I came here from a groupon several months ago. I thought the exam was detailed, I spent the extra $40 dollars for the retina scan (covers 80% eye area). Better be safe than sorry. I was a little bit disappointed in the frames that are offered. All of the frames are very high end, even with the $200 dollars off I still ended up paying $300 with frame/lenses. I wanted to write this review after returning to VZN last Saturday afternoon for a glasses adjustment. I was able to go in and ask for my glasses to be adjusted with no hassle and at no cost. beware at all cost!!!!!! not only are they in it for the money they will charge you for services that you do not get. i went there to see about getting glasses they ran my insurance and got me a price on the pair i picked out. after insurance it was going to be $185. i decided to not to get them because i wanted to shop around. i went to an eye care by my work and found the same glasses and it was only going to be $25.00 out of pocket with my insurance. so i decided i could do better than that. the then told me that the insurance was saying i have already used my benefits for the year. i call them and they told me i had bought glasses at vzn eye care. i told them that was crazy because i told them i want to shop around first. the lady on the phone did some research and it turns out i was not the first person for this to happen to actually they do this all the time and there are reports of insurance fraud filed against them. my husband on the other hand had a similar problem he went to see about getting contacts out of pocket. they had him sit down and they did a couple of trial pairs on him and took some measurements and he was happy with the service he asked they lady how much it would be to get the contacts she told him the contact would be $60 for a month. he said ok he would like to get them she type something on the computer and told him his total was $260. what she never told him was the service charge of the trail pair was $200. so he told her he could not pay that and that she should have told him that before do anything to him. so she went and got a man from the back who basically tried to bully him in to paying. the man even tried to block the door. two weeks later we received a bill in the mail for the $260.oo. we are probably going to be calling out lawyer about this. read more

Just don't do it. I kept returning to VZN because it was convenient, but it's truly not worth it. I will reiterate others sentiments that they charge for unnecessary tests. I was told a test was required then I asked about the price on my bill and she responded that I didn't have to get that test and that's why the price was higher than expected. They have recorded a wrong contacts prescription for me 3 times. I tried to order contacts online and when I finally received a copy of my prescription (they forced me to sign a medical release form for my own prescription), it was incorrect. I had tried to order contacts directly through the office 2 times prior to this and was told they needed to check with doctor because the brand of contacts that had prescribed me were different from the trial pair that I wanted. Again, this was because they had recorded the prescription incorrectly. I just can't with them anymore. I gave them multiple chances to prove they could provide good customers service (other than the glasses guy, he was nice) and it just didn't happen. read more

This was a very bad and unfortunate experience. This place is literally up the street from my house and with the convenience, I tried to give them every benefit of the doubt and it still didn't work. First of all, I show up to the place on time and I had to wait almost an hour before I got to see anyone. I was in at 4:30pm and I didn't get seen until 5:30pm. The first assistant i saw was very nice. after seeing her, I had to wait another 30 min before the doctor had called me back. This lady was extremely direct and very negative. She gave me this spill on how contacts are very bad, how she is totally against them, and that glasses are the best way to go yet she was wearing contacts herself. Then I had to get fitted for the contacts and the assistant helping me was very rude and unsupportive but they still charged me $40 for his assistant in the fitting. Finally, I still give them a chance and call them to order the contacts and the guy over the phone said he was going to get my information and then call me back. STILL HAVEN'T HEARD FROM HIM. This really sucks because now I have to find another eye care professional. The convenience was awesome but the people aren't very professional and don't seem to care about you as much as I felt they should. With that being said, I give them one star. SORRY read more

I went here with a groupon to purchase a pair of glasses. It's been years since I'd gotten glasses, and I have never had any form of health insurance. Often health care professionals have sneered at my budget, given attitude and in general just not been that helpful once they realized my purchasing power is quite limited. Not VZN. Everyone working there made me feel welcome, and offered assistance in finding an affordable option. I have a very strong prescription, making the lenses very expensive, but they helped me find complementary frames at only $50. The doctor was warm and intuitive, and though she spent some time educating me on my past contact use and the ills of preservative laden eye drops, I never felt judged. This is the type of place that can make a broke college student feel like a million bucks. When my financial state improves, I am returning here to purchase the sexy designer frames that were out of reach on my first visit. As the daughter of a small business owner, I can attest that future loyalty is important. They may not of made much off my first visit, but they've guaranteed a second! read more

I have never written a review for yelp before. Why start now with "Affordable" Optical? Because I got ripped off. I like to know how much a service is going to cost before I use it, so I asked the receptionist "How much will the exam cost?", to which she replied "There is a $10 copay and $25 for materials." Great, I think. That's a little cheaper than the last place I went to. I go into the exam room, and I was immediately subjected to a condescending lecture about how I need to take better care of my eyes. This was before the Dr. even examined me. I should have followed my instinct and walked out. But I stayed, mostly because I was already there and just wanted the whole thing to be over with. So after my lecture/exam, I went back to the receptionist to pay. I watch her calculate my bill, and the total came to $154.00. Hmmm. That's a little more than the $35 she quoted before I saw the Dr. I had her break it down for me. The contacts were $160 for a six month supply ($40 more than the last place I went to), the exam was $79, $10 for the copay, and $25 for materials (which were a few drops of saline solution, and a contact case. After I was done with the case, I placed it in the garbage, only to have the Dr. pull it out and toss in the sink, saying "Oh I'm just going to wash it out." So yeah, hopefully you don't get the same case as the previous patient who has pinkeye or something because the Dr. wanted to save fifty cents). My insurance gives me an annual $120 allowance, so that leaves me with a bill for $154. I told the receptionist that when I asked her how much the eye exam would be, she said $35. She must have a case of very specific amnesia because she didn't seem to remember having that conversation. The last place I went to charged me just over $40 for the same products and services, or roughly 1/4 of what I paid for at this dump. My advice is to steer clear of this place. I should have done my research, but I just wanted a place close to where I live. I certainly paid for it. read more

I am not sure why all the bad reviews. I am as picky as them come and I did not have a problem with this place. Myself and my son (age 9) both went for check ups. I was very please with how the Dr. (petite female curly hair) worked with my son. I was amazed at how she was getting him to cooperate and the patience she had. I complemented her on how she worked with him and made a point to do so because her service with him was outstanding. I also had an exam and had no complaints. My son was fitted for glasses and I was fitted for both contact and glasses. Yes, she gave the contact lecture however she is also speaking from a place of "know" as she had her own eyes damaged by contact use. I make more of an effort to wear my contacts less now. Her assistant (older women) was very pleasant and VERY helpful. She helped us pick out our glasses and I am thrilled with the selection. I would of not picked the ones she suggested on my own and I love the choice I made. My son's glasses are also absolutely perfect for him and she picked them as well. I felt her service was very personalized. Perhaps what is off setting to people is their european mannerisms. They are very to the point and sometime people take that as being cold and offensive. I live in a neighborhood in Chicago that is very polish so perhaps that is why it did not bother me as I am use to it. I am going back though because my prescription increased (not her fault) and I just cannot get use to the stronger prescription. I had a doctor previous to her also try to increase my prescription a year or so ago having the same problem. I am going back to lower my prescription. I would rather be a little bit fuzzy this having my eyes ache. At my stronger prescription I need reading glasses and I think that is what is making me dizzy. I am almost a candidate for bifocals. Gasp! and it is the transition between looking in the distance and then looking to read that is a strain. So again not her fault. But they are changing my prescription and letting me return the contacts I purchased etc. So I will update after my next visit. read more

I went in on a Saturday, which I love that they are open on Saturdays. I got assistance in picking out frames. The promo they have on the ray ban frames is pretty impressive. However, they told me my frames would be ready that day. This totally impressed me! The woman helping me said they would be ready by 5pm and would call. I live really close so it would have worked fine. However, 5pm rolls around and no phone call. Nothing to say when they will be ready, or to even bother to tell me they couldn't complete the job that day. Now, based on their hours mixed with my work schedule I won't be able to get my glasses for another week. What started out and wonderful service became frustrating. I have to give a mixed review. The doctor is excellent! She is thorough, pleasant, and takes time to answer all questions. The staff are very pleasant and try to be helpful, but the place is chaotic. Three different people called me within a day of my first appointment, one 30 minutes beforehand asking for my insurance information. I told her -- I'm trying to get out of the house to get to the appt. Can't this wait until I get there???? Once I got there I had to go through everything about my insurance again for the 3rd or 4th time. For that first appointment (routine exam) I was there for 3 hours! Omg.... They explained there had been an emergency, so I thought ok, maybe this is not usually the case. My next visit took about an hour and a half. They need to better coordinate their work with patients and maybe have another optometrist on staff to help handle the walk-ins. read more

I just went in for my 2nd visit with Dr. Vlada. I'm overall just very impressed with the professionalism but also the personal attention this office doles out on a regular basis. Alex was keen to give me a little rundown of my insurance situation so that I wasn't shocked when it came time to pay (seriously, who else does that!?) Karina (sp?) was super friendly and quick with the preliminaries, and when it came time for the doc to see me, it was all business. She gave me a glaucoma test, vision test, eye "shape" test, and even gave me a polite scolding on wearing my contacts for far past their shelf-life. It's rare to find an optometrist who really cares about her patients and actually bothers to educate them on keeping one's eyes healthy. And in the end, I ended up paying very little for my contacts. My one quibble is the frames/lenses seem to be on the pricey side. May have to check out PearleVision's selection before I make a purchase. read more

I have no idea where these people who sang praises about this group of people at Affordable Optical Clinic have been writing about since I have not experienced a single good thing about this place. I came in on a Friday afternoon and gave Isabel my prescription. I paid the entire amount in cash and she told me I could come back for my eyeglasses on Tuesday afternoon. She was cold and not friendly at all. Tuesday afternoon came and I was there at exactly 4:30 pm. Straight from Isabel's mouth came out; " You need to wait for another hour as they are not ready yet". I was tired from work as I was already at work at 6:30 am, but anyway I did not want to argue so I just went home and came back for them at 5:30 pm. When I went back, Isabel had to tell me that she could only give me a pair since something went wrong with their machine and it will be fixed the following day and that she will call me. Again, I didn't want to argue so I went my merry way. Wednesday came and I got no calls so I decided to call them before 4 pm. The girl who answered told me that my glasses are not ready yet since the technician did not show up and that they will call as soon as they are ready. Thursday came and still no calls. I called before 4pm again and was told that they are ready for pick up. I came to the clinic and tried them on and when I put them on, the frame was uneven. The girl went inside and asked me to try them on. Again, they were still uneven. She said that it was because my lenses are not even and that one was higher than the other. I told her that nothing is wrong with the lenses but with the frame. She again went inside and tried to fix it. She came out and asked me to try them on again and what can I say, they were still uneven. She told me this time that my ears are not even. With that, I had to rush out of there before I could wring her neck. Now, I got to go to another optical clinic to have it fixed. Awesome! I wanted a new pair of glasses, I saw a Groupon, $60 for a free eye exam and $250 to use on a pair of glasses. I was a little wary about such a good deal, but I figured at worst I would lose $60. Well when I went in he guy took great care of me, I told him I had the Groupon and what kind of frames I wanted. He found me. Awesome cheaper pair ( he could have pushed me towards the more expensive ones but didn't at all) next I had an exam. The doctor was really nice. After we sat down and the guy gave me my opinions. I picked thinner no glare lens ( I could have spent way less) all in all I paid an extra $30 outta pocket. I did all of this with zero insurance, just a groupon. So after 2 days ( the frames I wanted weren't in stock, otherwise it would have been much sooner) I got an awesome pair of glasses for about $90! I've been to America's best and it was horrible. I live near Loyola's Campus and have constantly walked by this place without a second glance. From the outside it looks like a small hole-in-the-wall place, but in reality it is really spacious once inside. The receptionist was incredibly helpful. From helping me figure out what my eye insurance would cover in costs (they have the best prices on eye exams), to helping me order top brand contacts for a great deal. Also, I should mention if you order a year supply of contacts they give you a years worth of contact solution for free (which can save any college student a ton of money). Besides the bargains and convenient location right by the Loyola Red Line CTA train station. This place has a very dedicated staff to costumer service that is lead by a great doctor. She is very passionate about your eye care and does a great job explaining how to prevent eye damaging habits. I saw mixed reviews on yelp before checking this place out for myself and I have to say I'm glad I took the positive reviews advice. I saved a ton of money and had a great experience with the whole team at Affordable Optical. They are a great place to go if your in your 20's like myself and trying to get quality service at a great price. read more

Very bad. I took my cousin there and it was a very bad experience. First off it takes two visits before you can even get fitted for glasses, then there was picking out the frames which was spacfic to our health care plan but then had to go pick out other frames can you say "BAIT AND SWITCH" it left a nasty taste in my mouth to say the least and finally they said that there were no glass case that came with them and even the cheap glass places give you a case for you glasses. read more

THE OFFICE HELP IS DISHONEST AND/OR DISORGANIZED!!!!! I did not go under old management, but I have insurance provided by the state, and was quoted 4-6 weeks for frames to arrive. It was really like 8-12 weeks. THE DOCTOR WAS GREAT and the one who suggested I get fit for contacts!!! This way I would have the trial pair, if available in the office for my prescription, and would be able to see until glasses came. I loved the trial of contacts so much that I bought a small supply so I could wear them more often. When picking up my contacts, I asked about status of my frames. They could not find my info right away and discovered that MY GLASSES WERE NOT EVEN ORDERED 1-2 WEEKS AFTER MY EXAM. -- OUR RECEIPT DOES NOT MATCH WHAT WAS ORDERED! My husband and I share same insurance and since the doctor was great he tried the same place. He has 3 prescriptions, and the state provides up to 2 prescriptions. In the end, both my husband and I remembered opting for a pair from state with 2 prescriptions. My husband cannot wait 3 months for his prescription. In the mean time, we decided to go back and purchase a decent pair. While we were there, we found that the state pair was ordered with one prescription. We did not have our receipt on hand, but were told that we changed our mind so she had crossed out a bunch of stuff on the "white/ order card". I checked my receipt at home and our receipt in fact shows an order for 2 prescription bifocals. We believe that maybe she thought once we received the pair from the state with the 2 most important prescriptions that we would not purchase a second pair with all 3 prescriptions as we told her we hoped to do. Also, after sharing our budget for glasses and asking for guidance on where to look to stay in budget, somehow almost every pair in that area we picked, no matter the tag price, ended up being quoted at least $80 over budget with lenses. We ended up with a pair including all 3 prescriptions for $50 less than what we were planning to spend. The glasses are not as trendy, but will definitely due. I ordered glasses for my son from this place almost a year ago and have never received them. I called and spoke with Isabella who informed me that the place was under new management and she had no idea what to do about my glasses. She then said she would call the company and give them my number so I could handle it...excuse me!!???? I would say this is the worst Eye Doctor I have ever been too. Just a really cold shoulder from the Doctor and her receptionist my wife went in June they said they will call in a month for next appointment but never did. When my wife inquired they acted like if they didn't want to be bothered. i don't know if it was race thing or where the Doctor is from but the worst ever. They will try to tell you that your insurance plan does not cover frames when it really does. Watch out for Tatiana and the elderly receptionist. My advise to you is to check with your provider before you visit affordable optical. I agree with other reviews; crappy frames to choose from. I left without ordering frames after my exam because Tatiana told me my benefits would not cover frames. I called my provider and confirmed that I am covered up to 135.00 for frames. The selection was so lousy and the exam was so quick that I decided to pay out of pocket elsewhere . Oh and btw I too was told that contact lenses were causing my vision to deteriorate and told to select frame that I liked and would wear. You think after wearing contact lenses for 30 plus yrs another optometrist would have told me this. You can do better elsewhere. BEWARE! DO NOT GO HERE! They are ONLY in it for the money. They try to charge you extra for unnecessary tests. When I asked to see glasses for my 6 year old covered by our insurance (instead of the glasses they were trying to upsell me at astronomical prices) they handed me a jumbled tray and told me to search through to find the kids glasses. I dig through them and choose a somewhat sad pair for her that is covered by my insurance with the intention to go online to get her a cuter back-up pair. When I go to pick up her ordered glasses, I call ahead and ask for her prescription including pupil distance. They say no, problem and it'll be ready when I get there. I get there, no pupil distance. When I ask for it, they say they need to do a special test at an extra charge. WHAT? I have her prescription glasses in my hand and you need to retest her? Either they are handing out faulty prescriptive glasses or scamming people for extra money. When I called them out on it, a man came from the back and loomed over me bullying me and telling me I needed to respect them as medical professionals. I responded that it is not disrespectful to call them out from trying to scam me and not give me my children's full prescription. This place has potential but unfortunately they are not reaching it. The doctor is only in 2-3 days a week, which makes it difficult to get assistance with urgent medical needs/questions. Overall, I thought the doctor did a very thorough and informative check up and I enjoyed learning more about my eye than I normally would. However when it came to my diagnosis, throughout multiple visits, the doctor used multiple medical buzz words that seemed to conflict, which made my diagnosis pretty confusing to me. It almost sounded like a medical student reciting medical terminology to themselves. During my most recent visit the doctor said that she would put a prescription for a stronger medicine in my file in case I ever needed it, and that I could just call it in. I ended up needing it at one point due to abnormal pain from my condition so I called the office - the doctor was not in that day and the staff told me that there was no mention of the stronger medicine in my file. They said they would have the doctor call me back but she never did. I ended up going to LensCrafters that night and getting my issue resolved and explained (!) in 30 minutes. Overall, I won't be coming back here. I'd rather go to LensCrafters, which is unfortunate because I'd prefer to support a small business such as VZN. read more

I fell for the retinal scan too, after the hard sell and being told if they had to use drops it would mean rescheduling. Scanned my eyes, did an eye exam, ordered my glasses, but another test was needed because I had cataracts and possibly glaucoma and macular degeneration so I made another appt because I was told my insurance codes required it. For the follow up appt they left a reminder message the day before telling me if I cancelled with less than 24 hrs notice I'd have to pay a $25 fee. (the message was left less than 24 hrs before the appt!) The next day I was running a little late and called to let them know I might be 10 min late and she said, "I'm glad you called. I was just going to call you. The Doctor has something more important to do today so she has to reschedule your appointment." This was half an hour before my appointment! I asked who I should bill for my $25 'no show' fee but the limited english receptionist didn't get the joke. I rescheduled but didn't see the doctor for the next two visits, just tests, for which I was told my insurance required separate visits. On the 4th app-- 2 months later-- I met Dr Nakhlis who referred me for cataract surgery to a Dr in Oak Park (who I've since found has scarier yelp reviews than Nakhlis!) and scheduled me for 3 more appointments. She told me--after I asked--that I'd need new glasses after cataract surgery. I told her I only got one pair of glasses with my insurance and they wouldn't even be here before the cataract surgery. Nakhlis said that if it was medically necessary they would pay for another pair. I said, you knew I had cataracts before you ordered the glasses. She shrugged. My scam meter went off hard. It turns out my insurance (medicaid based) does not require multiple appointments. No WAY I'm seeing the clown she referred me to. I wonder if all her medicaid patients get billed for a half dozen visits and unnecessary eyeglasses. And Dr, don't waste your time writing a lengthy response. Train your staff with that time instead and examine your conscience. read more

We came in for an eye exam and couldn't get out of there fast enough. The doctor and staff do care about you (or so it would seem), but all the glasses are over-priced ($200 and up) and they keep pushing to do extra exams (which cost more money) with their fancy machines. If you think of people having business mentality, this would be them (even though they are nice about it). By the way, be very careful with your medical insurance (they don't just ask for the vision insurance, they want your medical too) because various tests that they may do may be charged to your medical insurance and well....medical insurance does not cover any of their exams & procedures because they are not performed by ophthalmologists (eye doctors). They probably want you to believe that they (as optometrists) know as much as the actual MDs, but of course, understand that they do not (and definitely do not have the proper training that it takes to perform various of their things that they want you to do in their office. read more

Dr. Nakhlis is an extremely competent professional, and I'm getting as comprehensive a treatment as I could get from any ophthalmologist but with far better access,more convenience, and without using my medical co-pays or deductible. Therefore, I feel I have no choice but to continue to give her my custom. Her optician is most skilled, and her eyewear consultant, Albert, is nice, patient, and helpful. However, this cannot be said about her admin staff. As recently as yesterday, I called the office from California to request that they fax my prescription to a nearby retailer in California, so that I may obtain my contacts locally. The experience turned into a two-day ordeal; people on the phone acted like they couldn't be bothered. Comments akin to "I am very busy and cannot talk to you" were received from two different individuals I have had to speak with. Very disappointing that the level of professionalism in the examination room does not match the level of customer service. The two have to be on par with one another if I was to rate this office highly. read more

I wouldn't even give this place one star if I didn't have to. I've been wearing contacts/glasses for 10 years and I have never ever been this unhappy with an optometrist. I have always picked a placed solely on sale prices or insurance referals and lukily i left happy each time, or if I was unhappy the office was certain to do whatever to fix things up for me. However, I didn't have the same experience at this place. My first appt came with lots of new discoveries, (apparently, I've been using too strong of a prescription and I was advised by the optometrist to lower the prescription and after telling her I have astigmitism she suggested a brand that works well with other patients with astigmitism 30$/box, 3 month supply) however a week after using the trial pair it was apparent that she was wrong, blurred vision in class, while driving, while reading. I was told to come in for another fitting, another brand was prescribed along with an increased prescription, after 2 weeks I still had the same issues.. (I called enraged bc the trip to the office wasn't an easy task with a newborn daughter) receptionist told me that some patients come in for multiple fittings before finding a perfect match (never had I experienced this before!) Longstory short... within 2 months I went in for 4 "fittings" nothing worked for me.. and since this office doesn't do refunds I have a 60$ credit, however after becoming a very unsatisfied customer after my horrible experience (being lens-less and out of 60 bucks) I just wanted my money back.. its been six months now and they refuse to refund me my money or even worst, help resolve my issue!!!! Receptionist told me to come in and get cute designer sunglasses with the credit... what she and the rest of the staff failed to understand is that I came to them for a major NECESSITY, (and I was let down time and time again) not for a LUXURY purchase.. so my advise to all reading this, stay away! These people don't care for their customers! read more
