Contacting Vulcan was based on the details shown on their website. My basement was showing signs of water infiltration at one vertical wall section. Vulcan's website also carried information pertaining to Xypex Crystalline Technology, a substance that, when mixed with water, permeates concrete block walls and seals them. I intended to request this type of work from Vulcan. I arranged a meeting with the first sales rep. I discussed Xypex in detail and indicated that I was not in the market for a French Drain. We proceeded into the basement where I showed the rep the area of water infiltration.The rep then proceeded to write up and present me with a cost proposal for a French Drain! I reminded him that I wanted Vulcan to utilize the Xypex technology. He told me that he had no knowledge of that procedure. I thanked him for his time as our meeting was over. I then contacted Vulcan a 2nd time, specifically requesting that a rep visit with me who possesses Xypex knowledge. I was told that would occur. The 2nd rep arrived as scheduled at which time I reviewed my desire to have Vulcan use Xypec Technology. We then went down into my basement. Surprisingly, the rep began to outline how a French Drain is installed! I then interrupted him by reminding him that we had just finished talking about Xypex several minutes ago! The rep then called his manager advising him that Xypex is also shown on Vulcan's website. The manager indicated that Vulcan does not do that kind of interior work! However, he did mention that Vulcan would perform it on the exterior portion of wall. (It should be noted here that there was zero discussion from Vulcan regarding exterior excavation of soil that would have to be performed to expose and gain access to the footing, a significant cost consideration.) At that juncture, I thanked the rep and walked him to the front door. For those Yelpers that are in need of waterproofing work, other than French Drains, you may want to consider how important communication is on the part of the contractor. Even though my home survived Hurricane Ida unscathed in 2021, recently the house was not doing so well with keeping a dry basement after heavy rainfalls. So I interviewed 3 companies and chose Vulcan to do the basement perimeter 4" drain, replace an old sump pump, and include a window well tap. They did an excellent job and actually finished it in one day - jackhammered the perimeter, buried the french drain, and concreted the trench for appx 130 linear feet. The workers were fast, friendly and courteous. It was loud for about 2 hours, but it wasn't too disruptive. The price was very good compared to the other 2 companies I spoke with. Last thing, the warranty that comes with the job is transferable and that's great since I am in the process of selling my house. read more

Do not use this company. They never connected the discharge pipe so the sump pump was just pouring water behind my wall causing mold (see photos). They drilled through absestos tile and mastic, requiring me to go through thousands of dollars of asbestos abatement and risking harm to me and my family. On top of this they have made little effort to resolve anything. The project manager, Victor, will not return any phone calls. It's borderline comical how I will be assured that victor will call me back and he never does. Over the past three weeks I've called Vulcan over ten times and each time an exasperated person on the phone will assure me that they relayed an urgent message to Victor and Terry again, and that they will call me by end of day, but they never do. The asbestos issue is crazy because they had their employees jackhammering through a material that is know to cause cancer, endangering their employees and my family, and yet they still have zero interest in answering a phone call. Don't make the mistake I made, steer clear of this company. And if someone at Vulcan is reading this, I'm happy to change this review if you guys actually give me a call back to fix the system you installed. read more

I used them for my Condo in Brooklyn 2019,they had to come twice for 100 square footage of work sump pump. The concrete didn't dry, they put the drain 3' from the wall, broke my water line. 1- week later they came back to REDO it again another 2 weeks Concrete wasn't dry. I called a Real Professional. George's Mechanic's in NJ, a 1-Man show did the job PERFECTLY. I had to do it all over again. Mr. George is the BEST! STAY AWAY from VULCAN my New guy put the pump in the Wall where it belongs repaired everything. He has hands of Gold!!! Vulcan is a horror crap show. Vulcan did an amazing job! from start to finish the staff were very thorough and helpful for every need we had. Kevin and Victor were very responsive to any questions or concerns I had, and scheduling was smooth. Very responsible company. They did a great quality job and no water comes into my basement anymore. Before this, we would get loads of water in our basement every time it would rain. Vulcan installed this stone work a little less than 2 years ago and this is the result. We are so disappointed because it was part of huge cosmetic overhaul of the whole store and now has become an eyesore. Our brand new tenant is likely not pleased with it either as they previewed the space when the stonework was first completed and looked nice. We have been trying to call for MONTHS to no avail. This is a very dirty job with jackhammering out a troughth in the floor and installing drain piping and cementing in the area. They came on time, were extremely neat and finished on time. We called Vulcan for an initial inspection for a flooded basement. When we set up the appointment, they told me my husband needed to be present for the consult as apparently, I am unable to make decisions without him. My husband is a very busy attorney but he left work early on the day of the consult to arrive at 7pm on the dot for the 7-8 pm appointment window. I recieved a call from Paul that our consultant was running behind like 10-15 mins, so now my arrival would be 8:15 instead of 7-8. I said ok and asked that they still come since my husband had gone through the trouble already to be there. The guy was 30 mins late and didn't call me until 8:30 to tell me he was lost and couldn't find parking. I know parking is bad in my town, especially at night so in anticipation of this, I had told the person who set up the appointment that parking was an issue and to put in the notes that they could safely park at the grocery store 2 blocks away and not be towed while they were here to do the estimate. I recommunicated this information to the consultant on the phone as he was telling me he couldn't find parking. I then had to spend 11 mins on the phone trying to navigate him to the grocery store because he apparently didn't have GPS. The guy was an idiot and couldn't follow simple directions and kept missing the turns. It was very frustrating to have to spend 11 mins navigating the guy to my house when he was already 30 mins late. Also I can't believe he doesn't have GPS when they supposedly service all of NJ. How on earth does he get around, does he take out his Rand McNally paper map and try to read it by the light of the moon?! Then the entire time I am navigating him, he is complaing about how much he dislikes coming to my town, how much he was dreading it becuase of the parking, how inconvenient this all was for him. Making me feel guilty for living where I do and what an imposition this was for him when he was the one who was late. Not to mention my town is notorious for basement flooding, we could keep them in business by ourselves, so I imagine they get a lot of calls for my area, which apparently they must never successfully service because they can't even park their cars to actually come do the work. Once he finally made it to the grocery store, he saw a sign warning him it was private property and that they tow unauthorized vehicles. I assured him that it was safe and they won't tow during business hours and that we have short-term guests use this option all the time. He was complaining and whining that his car was brand new and he didn't want to risk it, and then he asked me, what did I want him to accomplish? What I wanted him to accomplish was simple: #1: arrive on time #2: Be a fully functioning adult in the year 2016 and navigate yourself and figure out how to park, and not whine about parking and complain that it's your client's fault you are lost and can't figure out how to park. #3: perform the service we are expecting you to preform, in this case an initial basement inspection. He could not do any of those things. I don't know if the guy was tired and being his last stop of the night, he just wanted to go home so he wanted me to force his hand and tell him not to come. Well if so, his whining and complaining paid off. I finally got fed up and told him if he can't even figure out how to park, how can I trust his company to properly figure out what's wrong with my basement and fix the problem?! Never in my life have I encountered such unprofessionalism and poor service on an initial meeting when a company is trying to earn my business. This initial horrible first impression of Vulcan prevented me from even attempting to use these un-professionals to do the work at my home. Would leave 0-stars if I could. Unbelievable! read more

Pressure relief system/new sump pump installed: Ill start off by saying that the salesman Victor was great. I bombarded him with a million questions but he gladly answered them all. He knew exactly what he was talking about and was able to let me know what was going on with my basement. Extremely polite and personable kind of guy. Next the turnaround time was extremely impressive. Estimate was done a day after calling and the job was completed just a few days later. The workers were extremely polite and professional and really did work their tails off to get the job done quickly. The foreman assigned to the job let me know right from the beginning that if I had any questions to let him know and was really transparent the whole time. The job of basement waterproofing by nature is extremely messy but the workers cleaned it all up and made it look spotless (actually cleaned it better than it was before they got there). The guys even helped me move things around when needed. They clearly knew what they were doing, and with a job like this its nice to know you chose a company that has experienced workers. Living by the water, my Mom has had a longstanding issue with water collecting in her basement. 3rd visit to repair the basement they repaired: Drainage pipe was routed to pour water into my neighbors basement, When pump turns on the exposed pipes shoot water at the walls and door. Foreman was drinking at first job (could smell it) I was called sweety and honey about 20 times in 10 minutes, and when the second foreman showed up to look at our complaints from the first job he LAUGHED at me for being upset about the water being pushed into the neighbors Yard. 3rd Service call and Customer service guy Matt, wanted to talk me in circles on my issues wasted a ton of my time with stupid phone calls that amounted to him randomly assigning a day for an "inspection" of the job (the original job was on the 8th, still having repairs done and talking on the 23rd.There is a service working right now repairing the squirting pipe and maybe the drainage system. Husband had to take a day off work to talk to these people since My female parts apparently interfered with being taken seriously. Dust everywhere, crap all over the yard, and I have a new wavy(definitely not level) basement floor and oh yeah they cut a hole into my wall without asking, changed the entire plan for the floor moving the pumping system without asking. NOW they are sending someone to inspect the job on the 31st to see if the job is right. Count those days. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Is there 0 Stars? Short review - DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They jackhammered into and broke our water main inside our house and flooded the entire bottom floor with 4 inches of water. When they were looking for the water shut off valve - they went to the back of the house and started turning valves in our fire sprinkler system pump house. When water was eventually restored (32 hours later) they left valves open and flooded this room where we were storing pictures, paintings, etc to keep them out of the contruction area. Unfortunately for us, both of our water heaters (2 family house) are in this room - they were flooded and needed to be replaced. Throughout this entire ordeal Victor from Vulcan said not to worry - they'd take care of us. So we approached the situation as - hey things happen - lets see how they "take care of us". They "took care of us" by offering to knock off $500 from the bill. After flooding our 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms, laundry rooms, closets, water heater/storage room, and warping 9 doors - this is how they take care of us?! To further illustrate how this company will cut corners - when I inspected the french drain in the back of the house - I found it didn't connect to the sump pit! I called Vulcan they had the person at the site on Monday inspect the job that was done Friday. He found the trench to stop 4 feet short of the sump pit. But the company spread new concrete on top to make it look complete. This is not the correct, effective way to install a french drain, nor how the work was agreed to in the contract. Total deception! They would have left and taken the money for this job - oh don't worry they have a warranty - is what is commonly heard from the crew - would you want these people in your house after this ridiculous weekend. I don't. We are going through our insurance company to clean up the mess they made - remove wall and insulation. Dry out and restore the damage they caused. So when it's all said and done, we'll be out of pocket another few thousand to fix the work Vulcan performed. Everything and every area of the house they worked in needed to be fixed. I cannont empasize enough - do not use this company. Go with a local plumber or mason - even if they don't have a 10 year warranty - it all depends on who you have operating the jackhammer - don't trust Vulcan with your house. read more

We had a basement flooding issue about 7 years ago, in spite of previously having a French Drain installed by another company. Vulcan came in, replaced the old pump, expanded the drain and added a second pump at the front of the house. They were fast and efficient, and they left the basement clean and ready to be refinished. Since then the only sign of water we have had is when we hear the pumps kick in. The basement is bone dry and we have peace of mind. Oh, and their price was also very reasonable. read more

However, the cap on the exhaust pipe broke (probably because of the very harsh winter), and Vulcan replaced it with no problems. They are a very customer oriented company. read more

I had Vulcan put in a french drain a couple years ago. They tried to be clean (it's a dirty job) and the system seems to be working on the whole. My only issue is that my original sales guy was terrible. Basically told me my house was going to crumble if I didn't put a drain in right away. We only get minimal basement water every couple years. That being said, I dealt with a different guy a few months later and he was fine. What I was more impressed with is that the pump wasn't working recently but I didn't get around to getting it fixed. We are in the middle of a Noreaster right now and I called in a bit of a panic yesterday thinking we'd have water issues (thankfully nothing yet!). I received prompt calls back from Mike and then Victor, and they got a crew to my house this morning to swap out the pump. read more

I had previously contracted with one of your competitors, BLU, for a water remediation system in my basement. That company tried getting through the floor, and after approximately 4 - 4 1/2 hours of jack hammering and air hammering, they informed me that they were abandoning the job because it would take a week to get through my floor for the approximate thirty foot run. They re-cemented the floor where they had broken through the concrete and walked away from the job. The workman told me that no one could do the job if they could not do it. They left my house a shambles and with water in areas that I previously did not have any. Despite my reluctance to call any other company, I did call several other contractors. Mike Rosenthal from Vulcan came to my house and repeatedly reassured me that your company would get the job done. After doing some research, I reluctantly entered into contract with Vulcan Waterproofing through Mr. Rosenthal. The job was scheduled to begin in a week. From the moment I entered into contract until Tuesday when the men arrived, I was preparing myself for another disaster. I thought that if I were prepared for the worst, I would not be as devastated as I was when BLU abandoned the job previously. I even considered canceling the contract pursuant to my three day right of rescission, but fought off the urge to do so. When the team arrived at my house, my trepidation began to subside immediately. Four men, not three boys, as the previous contractor had sent, exited the van. They brought with them an air compressor and did not have to leave the job to get one as the previous contractor had done. They had the air hose come through a window rather than through my house. They advised me to shut down the air conditioner so as not to disperse the concrete dust through the house. In less than one hour of air hammering, your men accomplished more than the previous contractor had done all day. Carlos, the foreman, ran the air hammer for four hours and was fully done with the thirty foot run by 1:00pm. While he was hammering, the other men were removing the debris he loosened, were laying the perforated pipe and were installing the sump pump and discharge pipe. They all worked together like a well-oiled machine. The job was completely finished by 2:30pm despite the fact that the men were soaked from being out in the pouring rain. I am thrilled with the professionalism of your team and the water remediation system that has been installed. Vulcan Basement Waterproofing accomplished what BLU said was impossible. Vulcan installed a French drain and sump in early 2000. Evidence of water intrusion was noted over the years. We have now had the job completely redone, and discovered that weep holes were never drilled in the bottom of the foundation wall. Unfortunately, the quality of Vulcan's "waterproofing" work may not be known for years. If we had had this done properly the first time, we wouldn't be redoing the work now. This is the second house I have had done by Vulcan. My first house I would get about a half inch of water every time it rained. I researched having the excavation work done around the outside of the foundation and got prices of fifteen to eighteen thousand and this was about fifteen years ago. I then found Vulcan they came in and had a process that did it from the inside of the house and it worked great for four thousand. Plus they were insured so that gave me comfort knowing that if there was any water getting in after I finished the basement I would be protected especially my ten thousand dollar pool table, thirteen years later it was still bone dry. Needless to say when I moved It was a no brainer my new house also had some basement water issues I called in Vulcan and it was done but two years down the line I had a little issue with water getting in, in one corner. Here is the true test of a reputable company, I called Vulcan they came quickly accessed it took responsibility for it and fixed within a few days. I would highly recommend them. read more
