Dope spot!! Have been here a few times for brunch and I must say the rooftop is amazing with a beautiful view of the city. The food is also delicious and I find myself ordering the same thing every time, the French toast and my husband enjoys the jerk chicken and waffles. Additionally, my parents are in their 60s so this was not ideal for them to be hunched over. We asked about this and they couldn't accommodate, stating that the other seating was reserved, but most tables were empty for the duration of our stay Elevators are shared with hotel services/housekeeping - on our way down after eating (restaurant on 22nd floor), we stopped at another floor and a hotel employee got on with 3 large roller trash cans full of hotel room trash in clear trash bags - it's their job and totally understand but a bit strange that the restaurant elevator is also a service elevator. Great rooftop bar in the South Loop. There are two separate rooftops with tons of fire pits. It was unfortunately a bit rainy the day we went and we couldn't sit outside. David was a great bartender, he really knew what he was talking about and was very knowledgeable about different drinks. First, the view: amazing. The stunning view of the surrounding area and lake is really the only reason to go there. The place is huge with plenty of seating to take in the view, from couches to high tops to bar areas looking out. The bones of the place has enormous potential. The food: eh. Overpriced, as to be expected given location and aforementioned view. Had lobster chilaquiles that were basically mush. Not sure there was ever real tortilla chips in there. Friend had ceviche with on point plantain and sweet potato chips. Those crispy and delightfully spiced chips were the star of the table. The service: wtf. How is service allowed to be so terrible? The server had to come back twice to ask how to make a skinny margarita (because club soda, tequila, lime and a salted rim is really difficult). It was as bad as I should have expected with two trips back for simple recipe. I finally served myself water because I didn't see my server once after the multiple trips for recipe. Table next to us served themselves napkins/silverware for same reason. Her order was completely wrong as well (and it was a breakfast sandwich). Table behind us finally went to bar for check after waiting 20 mins. Table in front of us had ice water spilled on them, left, and table wasn't cleared for full 15 minutes. I mean it is just terrible service. And they weren't even slammed. Need training and/or different staff and the place would be 9/10. read more

Easily a top spot to visit if you're in this part of the city. It's right next to the McCormick West and multiple hotels. The naming scheme is quite accurate: it offers quite a view. They offer top shelf drinks, individual rooms and sitting areas, live DJ, and outdoor patios. The service was on point with a very friendly and welcoming staff. The food offerings such as the steak, salmon, and Nashville hot chicken sliders were fantastic. And they made a great Old Fashioned. I highly recommend. read more

Came here around 9pm on a Wednesday night and the place was almost empty. You have to take an elevator to the 22nd floor to get to the bar. The place is huge with 3 bars and plenty of seating areas, not to mention their two outdoor patios with fabulous views. Unfortunately, the outdoor areas were closed when we went possibly due to rain. We ordered vieux carre, moscow mule, beers, and one their signature cocktails. The drinks were strong and well-made. Prices are on the higher side ($14 for cocktail) but worth it. I genuinely enjoyed this place. It's large enough to not feel cramped and the outdoor space is both well designed and we'll kept. The bartenders are friendly and the pours and solid. I liked the flatbread. This spot is worth checking out. *Edit* I still approve of and endorse this location. And I'll keep it 5 stars. But now I'm seeing what other reviews have mentioned. The bartenders, while very good *when* they're engaged, do take a looooooong time to both make drinks and serve guests. A glass can be empty for far far too long before a bartender will give you a glance. Not really acceptable. They have to be on point and hire better. read more

Miguel was this place saving grace. We took my mother out for drinks for her birthday the service was mediocre the atmosphere was dry. My sister dropped her water and Miguel came to the rescue with towels and shots. Definitely an asset to this establishment I wouldn't not even consider returning had it not been for him. This place is BREATH TAKING. On the 22nd floor of the building. Coat check is as the entrance to the building. It has one of the best views in the city. Private rooms for larger parties. It has two patios, one to the west and east. Comfy seating and your standard table and chairs as well as bar top seating. The east patio tends to be a little less windy. The wait staff is amazing. "Jaz" was our waitress and she was fantastic; gave us great recommendations. We ordered drinks and enjoyed the views while waiting for food. We ordered pork belly baos, shrimp toast, brussel sprouts and longanisa. Honestly can't say enough positive things about this place. If you're in the city.... GO! The views are unbelievable and there's so much space and natural lighting with all the glass. We ordered mimosas that were delicious and they let you pour the champagne and orange juice yourself. The brunch menu was genuinely deliberated by all of us because everything looked amazing. We ended up getting the pork belly hash, garden bowl, power bowl, chicken and waffles, fingerling potatoes, and a bacon Egg, and cheese flatbread. Everything was absolutely delicious and super filling. Not extremely pricey either for the quality of the food. A really cool spot for big parties or just brunch/dinner/drinks with a friend or date. I went on a Tuesday night and there was a private party so only the East side of the bar was open. The view is so beautiful! I love the space, even though it was really crowded, it didn't feel cramped. There are 2 outdoor spaces, both offer different views of the city. I had a margarita and their brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts had a slight spicy kick to it and it was delicious! I was also impressed by their bathroom. I love the setup. It feels like you're in a fun house mirror. A new rooftop bar in south loop. The love the entrance area where you can get your coat checked and they ask you for your ID before giving you the green light to go up. They have elevator staff which makes the place feel extra fancy. And you are immediately greeted by a very nice hostess by the door. It's free seating, so you can walk around, check out the view and pick an available seat which is very nice. The interior is super fancy. The staff are very nice. We ordered the bacon flat bread, seared scallops, pork belly bao and Korean ribs. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. It was a bit cloudy when we went, can't wait to come back on a sunnier day. And the bathroom is just amazing. read more

We stumbled up here thinking it was the hotel restaurant, but apparently not. The hotel needs to fix their signs. We had breakfast, which was a bit pricey-- almost $20 a head. But it was delicious! I had the South Loop Omelette, which included sausage, provolone, and giardiniera peppers. The breakfast potatoes were different than any place I've had them, but also tasty. Coffee was pretty good, too. Our server, Adam, was friendly and got us everything we needed. The rooftop view was a plus-- it's nice to look at something besides walls. Cute spot. Great views. I just hope it doesn't get overly crowded or "exclusive" too soon. You know how Chicago is... once a new fabulous spot opens up, it has a tendency to get played out very quickly! It's spacious, so you can sit at the bar area, or in the relaxed "pod" area, or grab a booth by the window. There's also a separate section altogether that looks more like a traditional dining area. They also have private karaoke rooms you can rent out! There's a DJ on Friday nights and the crowd is classy, well put together, chill. The food is good too. I had the same order both times because if it ain't broke... try the burger. It's yum. And surprisingly (to me anyway), the very simple arugula salad it comes with was delicious. The cab I had (can't recall which one) was good, the old fashioned was not the first time, but better the second time, the sidecar was ok, but too sweet. My observation from the first visit (I sat in the pod/lounge area) was that the servers are kinda stank. Like they have the stank face look and everything. Service was slow and drinks were made poorly. One of my friend's drinks at something floating in it... hmmm. A manager happened to walk by and we pointed it out. He promptly apologized and quickly had the bar make a fresh drink. BUT when he came back he wanted to assure us that the thing floating in the first drink wasn't dirt or something... but rather it was a piece of fruit left over in the shaker from a prior order. Wait, what? Why would you openly tell us that? 1) No fruit should be in a sidecar. 2) You just admitted that the bar doesn't clean out the shaker between drink orders. 3) You obviously don't see anything wrong with that. Just wow. The second visit was better than the first because a group of sat at the bar. 1) We could see every drink being made and could make requests as needed. 2) Service was also much better because well... we were at the bar. 3) Takeaway... sit at the bar. read more

I've been coming to this place since the early summer of 2019. I use to feel very welcomed as an African American woman as did my husband who is also African American. Now, not so much. You don't see any color in management and they treat you as if you're not welcomed, or as if you're not going to spend as much money as other races. Maybe it's the change in management, the guy Adam is very unpleasant, you can tell his first priority isn't guest satisfaction. I've witnessed him first hand talk to an employee in a disrespectful manner and I was disgusted. South Loop needed a place like this! I went last weekend on a Friday evening. The moment you walk into the front doors you are greeted by their security and host. You feel like you're about to go to a special event with just how much attention you get just to go up the elevator to reach the rooftop. Everyone is just friendly and very accommodating. They service was on point considering they had just been open for a few weeks! The venue is beautiful and modern. Both bar areas are welcoming and very social. Sitting up at the bar was even a great seat to have for an evening for dinner and drinks. It was busy on this Friday night and it was a good scene! The vibe was the perfect start to the weekend. They have a DJ playing good beats but not overly too loud to interrupt a dinner. They have the fire pits on in the winter time on the rooftop, but still too cold to be out there for more than a few minutes. We ordered the steak tartare and the flatbread- both tasty and came out real fast! They make a mean old fashion too. I will be coming back soon to try more of their menu. read more

So you walk into an empty bar and you would think they would be interested in selling you a drink, preferably more than one drink even.... Not the case IMO. How does a bar make ordering drinks miserable? I don't know but they are excellent at this IMO. How does a bar make you feel unwelcome? This is an easy answer, the bar is empty but they tell you that you can't sit down anywhere but the bar. I have never been to a more ultra-lame bar. DON'T GO HERE. Go to anywhere else. This was an amazing experience with friends dating all the way back to high school. The astounding environments and beautiful views of the city made this a night to not forget. The waffle was light and fluffy, the chicken was thin and crispy, just enough syrup and a tasty egg on top (ours was modified to be well done). Book reservations ASAP because they go quick. I went alone there Monday night and had the burger and a some beers at the bar. The food was fine, service was slow. When I got my bill there was an automatic 20% tip added to my check. I travel about 150 days a year and I have never in my life experienced an automatic 20% tip while dinning alone. Is that even legal? Shouldn't you just be adding that to the price of your food? Unbelievable! I asked to see the manager but was rebutted. The server said that was just their policy. Well if that's your policy, your policy sucks. I had the fries and the popcorn shrimp and my drink of choice was the tropical lush and they were strong lol and yes I had several. The roof top view was the best part. I've been to Vu on three separate occasions and each experience it has gotten worse and worse. This last experience was the icing on the cake, I will never patronize this establishment again. Our waitress Danielle was less than attentive and apparently does not know her establishment's rules when it comes to splitting checks. Her attitude was less than welcoming and got worse as the evening went on. My friends and I were there to have a good time and left with a headache after paying our bill. I ended up paying $90 when I only had $34 bill, including tax and tip. I've never heard of making customers pay half of the bill on each card, if you're just using two cards and cash. It's not that difficult to split a bill. I spoke with the manager and was informed that he would correct his staff's ignorance when it comes to forms of acceptable payment. And apparently this stipulation is applied when you are using 4 or more cards which was not the case in this situation. Furthermore, we were chased down, as we were leaving for a receipt. I've never had a waitress chase me down because they misplaced or lost the signed copy of the receipt. The food is mediocre and the drinks are ok. read more

We recently hosted my son's wedding reception at the Vu and it was absolutely amazing! After their previous venue cancelled on them (3 weeks prior to their wedding) we started setting things up with the fantastic staff at the Vu. We worked closely with Rachel who was so understanding and kind! She clearly understood how stressful our situation was and wanted to help us any way she could. I never write reviews but I had such an unpleasant first impression here. We booked a reservation thinking this place was a nice spot for an evening drink. When we arrived, the hostess was extremely unwelcoming and treated us as if we were an inconvenience. This is not the way to welcome new customers especially considering the price point. If there's anything you can do to tarnish your business, it's hiring the wrong hostess! We ordered a few drinks and they were ALL bland and on top of that, they charged us tax on our deposit which made 0 sense. The neighborhood is super sketchy I felt uneasy walking from and to my car. Nice view. Location has ample parking. Reservation requirement would be great if it worked. Walked in after inability to make a reservation and was told no walk ins. Called and spoke with Mikala, and was told she would let security know and we could go up. The menu was limited and my friend and I couldn't find anything we wanted to tried. We each had a margarita which was nice and strong, but ended up paying $40 for 2 drinks. There's a required 20% gratuity for walk ins, or $25/per person if reserved online.
