I had some time before the opera and noticed that this was nearby and had to check it out. It was a nice walk from the opera and the outside of the building with their signs just brings the customers in. I was glad that there was not a long wait and the small dinning area was perfect to enjoy my snack and coffee before the show. While in San Antonio checking out the local downtown scene, my wife and our girlfriend saw a Voodoo Donuts and just had to stop in. Yeah, they are just another donut store but with a bit of a hip twist. The bacon maple twist is one of their most famous donuts and being lover of donuts we stopped in for a few of their 40 different flavors before continuing on through town and to keep for the next morning. All three of us really enjoyed the eclectic decorating style of Voodoo as well as our tasty donuts. Voodoo is a donut institution that anyone who enjoys a good donuts should stop in and check out at least once. First off the good is that the donuts were pretty good and ordering online was easy. The staff was friendly and hardworking and I don't mean that lightly. By hard working I mean they were severely understaffed and dealing with a huge demand of customers to the point that it was a miracle that this place was even operational. I felt the stress the staff was under and that creates a poor ambiance and a negative experience. I felt bad for the workers some pulling double or even triple duties. My complaint is that the franchise owners should have ensured adequate staff during high demand hours and or step in and help with the workload. In a leadership role I believe in feeding your horses. We've wanted to check one of these out while traveling and finally did for this long weekend trip to San Antonio - the dough is so good!! The Voodoo doll has raspberry (at least I think that was the flavor) filling in the bottom half of the donut, which I didn't realize it would but it was good, honestly though just a basic chocolate glaze donut from them would be fantastic (essentially what part of my voodoo doll was except no hole lol) - I ate half for dessert last night and the other half this morning. There are big windows to watch them in the kitchen making and decorating the donuts. The display case also has rotating displays of the different flavors so you know what you're ordering. The atmosphere is really cool in the shop and they have so many different types of doughnuts available. The cashier told us to get the app and sign in so we could get a free doughnut. So cool of her...thanks! A neat place for a sweet treat! I'm not normally a donut person but what I've tried from Voodoo has been pretty good! The service is quick and easy despite the long lines that have been present in both of my visits, the merch is cute and funky, and the shop itself is a total vibe. I didn't think crystal chandeliers, hot pink, and a giant taxidermy longhorn could work together in the slightest but for Voodoo's aesthetic, it does. Even the bathroom, which was in decent but not the cleanest condition this last visit, goes hard with Pepto Bismol pink wallpaper bedecked with the wackiest assortment of donuts you would not normally imagine. Shop aside, Voodoo's donuts aren't all that greasy which means that those with sensitive stomachs, myself included, won't have to suffer after eating said donuts. They have a pretty decent sized vegan menu to choose from and they taste really good. This last time I ordered the Apple Fritter and it was MASSIVE. I ended up splitting it with someone who doesn't eat vegan and they really liked it too! It was very sweet, the dough was soft, and there were actual pieces of apple in the Fritter which I enjoyed immensely. If I'm in the area I'll probably stop by to try more of their vegan treats.
