Despite a CA mandate requiring face coverings when in public places and a sign outside their door further requiring anyone entering to wear a mask, at least about 20% of the people inside this Vons had no face covering of any kind. When I asked one patron about the face covering requirement, he responded by asking if I was management. I was hoping that perhaps employees of this chain would try and adhere to the rules of cooperation and common sense but found this not to be the case when my check out process was stopped by someone, I'm assuming was a manager, in order for him to clear up some scheduling issue. It's a joke there. I have had so many problems at that Vons. Last week one Supervisor told me he could't even help me for one second cause he's clocking out and to wait a half hour for the next and that's what I did as I watch this one just stand there and doing nothing. Thank god the other one helped me and his name is Dan. Then just now I get yelled out by some lady cause I asked her what time they close the deli cause. She just told me they were closed but the sign said 9pm so I asked her what time they closed I figured it could be different due to COVID 19 and she yelled 9pm with a lot attitude she said there closing early cause she needs to go home early the time was 8:30pm. So I said to myself I would rather drive to Fresno than deal with another person from this store. This is Safeway owned. Everything was as good as Safeway usually is. No complaints. Staff were very helpful and courteous.

Great convince of this grocery store beats needing Togo to Fresno or Madera. Things can get a little pricey but nothing too crazy as you'd think it would be because this is one of the only major towns for a little while. Or some times your last stop on the way to camping. Where do I begin? Long story short I work for this place once upon a time. So I have a little bit of insight on how the store operates. Most of the employees are super rude and hate each other and you could tell that when you walk in the store. They also treat people who aren't "regulars "with a lot of disrespect. Management is also not very nice (both the head managers don't even live in this area they live in Fresno and commute down and you can tell they hate it). And that's just how the store operates. In terms of the food they're almost never fully stocked and are missing large amounts of basic items that you can find in any Vons/safeway or Raleys or Basic grocery store. I mean for the love of God they don't even have lean cuisine Panini's, that's a staple. They also seem to be way overpriced comparatively to other Vons and safeways that I've been to. Especially in Fresno North California and the bay area. They do this on purpose because with the exception of water they price gouge their food items during tourist season. I've also never met baggers so slow and so rude in a grocery store. It does not take five minutes to bag three bags worth of groceries. And you never put bread on the bottom of the bag. And the facility itself is gross. But the reality is everyone there is overworked underpaid and management knows this and holds those jobs over their head. Which they're able to do because this is a fairly poor community and Von's does have health benefits like insurance. The truth is both the main grocery stores in this town aren't fantastic but if I had to tell people to go to one of the other I'd say go to grocery outlet. Their super friendly and cheaper than Von's. And seem to have better selection too! The gas however is usually fairly cheap and the guy who runs the gas station is good people. The cleanest most and most well-stocked Vons/Safeway I've ever been to. During the holidays, grocery stores can often be found looking more post-apocalyptic than the embodiment of modern convenience but not this one. On New Years Eve the place was dressed to the nines with booze, cheese plates, veggie platters and everything you need to put together a nice little NYE mixer at a local cabin home. The open registers were plentiful and the cashiers did an excellent job of moving all of us last minute shoppers through PDQ. read more

Not really sure why this place is so highly rated by others. The store is dark and outdated. The organic produce was wilted when I got home and the organic selection was mediocre at best. The mayonnaise and bread were incredibly overpriced,I was very disappointed at finding the super high prices. When I had to return something because I found the same exact item cheaper across the way at Raleys, I was treated like a convict by the cashier, her attitude was horrible. Best bet is to go across the street to Raleys in my opinion. I did give two stars because if this was the only option it would be suitable. The reviews in Yelp are backwards, in my opinion. I rarely ever give 5 stars to grocery stores, but this particular Vons deserves it. I came here twice this past weekend. Once on Saturday to do some shopping for my sister in law's b-day dinner and then on Sunday to help her shop for the week. Here are the HUGE pluses: +1 for Dry Cleaning inside +1 for having employees who know their products and are helpful +1 for a butcher who gave me 30% because the meat was a little frozen!! +1 for AMAZING customer service +1 for a clean and well designed store I had the most absolutely amazing interactions with employees here. They went above and beyond to make my experience fantastic. For example: I wanted to cook my sister in law some filet Mignon but the only ones that were available were slightly frozen. I brought this to the attention of the butcher and she gave me 30%. Are you freaking kidding me!!?? Seriously! Then when I came back the next day, I grabbed some butter because the sign said it was on sale. When I got to the register it said it was full price. The cashier called customer service over and had my husband to go grab the sign and proceeded to give me the butter for free because of "their mistake"!!! What!? Are you serious!!???? Almost every visit we are charged wrong on items , yesterday it was $12.00 ! How many people don't go back and just throw up their hands! Customer service in this store is NON existent its horrible just terrible....We don't have many choices in Oakhurst so we're kind of stuck! Parking is plenty and it's situated at a commercial area so there are other stores around. We only planned to get a few things but the prices were really good at Vons that we ended up with more stuffs than we needed. They have lots of open cash registers so there wasn't a long line/wait for their customers. We even got to use our Safeway club card number to get additional discounts. Now we know where to go the next time we're at Bass Lake and we needed food to cook. read more

We shopped here a number of times during our stay near Oakhurst. It's a smaller Von's than the ones we have in Southern California. But that isn't my beef with this store. My disappointment was in the attitude of the man working as cashier at check out. He seemed annoyed that I wanted to enter my Von's Club Card at check out. He was impatient, brusque, accidentally tallied my items with those of the woman checking out ahead of me and then chastised us for his own error. My friend noticed that the prices coming out on his register were slightly higher than those posted for some of the items she was buying. She had entered her Von's Club Card but nevertheless---was not being credited to discounted Von's Club price for every item. The cashier (I will check to see if I noted his name on my receipt and amend this review later if I have it) was visibly annoyed by her when she kindly brought that fact to his attention. Seriously, Sir? Oh my. Free parking in their shared lot. The Starbucks location in this store is unable to process money onto your Starbucks card. You're better off shopping at Raley's right across the street. read more

My family and I have been shopping here for years. The prices are reasonable. The selection is terrific. At most employees are very friendly and helpful! This one start review is specifically for self checkout. Do not use it! The machines are wonky and both times I've tried to use it the employees staffing the self-checkout we're super inattentive.when the red light is flashing and beeping and saying that you need store assistance and someone else walks up behind you and gets checked out by hand by the agent and then she starts talking to her buddy. Beware of the gas pumps!! Old dated. Receipts don't print legibly most of the time. There is no way to reprint inside the big store. Major pain if you keep a fuel log and or a checkbook Fuel is not branded as far as I can tell and prices are high for said unbranded fuel Gassed up here and the vapor recovery nozzle stopped my pump and spilled about a half a gallon of gas. I used to visit Von's all the time when I lived in Southern California, and i always considered it an up-market version of Safeway, since most Safeways until recently were often in grungy buildings (some still are). However, it's been a while, and it looks just like a new Safeway store! I guess that's not surprising. Anyway, nothing unexpected here, lots of choices for vegan options. Once again I get to leave a bad review, WARNING ALL DISABLED PEOPLE!!! If you have a service animal, no matter what, you will be chastised in this store!!! I have called corporate office and filed a complaint, I have went in and spoke with a couple of the managers, I have even taken in a copy of the ADA Service Animal Laws and myself and some others have still had to deal with RUDE employees, RUDE management over our right to have our service animal aka medical equipment with us in the store in a shopping cart! If our service animal is trained to use sent detection and must be close to the head and or chest area they ARE ALLOWED TO BE IN THE SHOPPING CART!!! I am rating the self service check out Alone , the person working this area on 7/5/18 is extremely rude. I have used the self service before and each time it is the same employee working this area. I don't know if she is just unhappy with her job or just a unhappy person in general but if you have this type of attitude you should not be working with the public . The employees Rock at this Vons, personable, friendly and customer service oriented. I want to give a special Kudos to Steve McCarthy (I think I have his last name right). He works mostly in the produce department but also works the cashier. Talk about energetic and joyful, along with knowing his produce it was a breath of fresh air. He also helped me when I dropped my wallet in the store and immediately got it back for me, just like magic :). You will have a good experience at Vons in Oakhurst. Anytime that we are going to go through the South Entrance of Yosemite (or Bass Lake), we always make a trip into this Von's to pick up the needed groceries! It's one of the updated Von's/Safeways. They have a good produce and meat section and have all the cravings that you want on a long trip to camp & hike. The last time I was there, staff was very friendly & helpful. (March 09) I went back in Jan '09 and had mediocre service from the bakery/deli section. We had pre-ordered a birthday cake and there seemed to be some confusion about it and where it was. Good overall products. Don't go to the sandwich making area next to the Starbucks tho!!! The girl there takes 10 mins to make one freakin sandwich. She always has a scowl on her face! She even sold my bf a sandwich with mold on it! She is just terrible! Anyway, the women in the Wells Fargo area r sooooo sweet and pleasant to talk to :D great group of ladies! While the store itself is a pretty good source of groceries in Oakhurst, watch out for the self checkout equipment and the frequent malfunctions which occur. There is an employee named Julie who provides almost no help when things go wrong and for so with a very poor demeanor. We have never been so poorly treated on a Von's store anywhere. You may have to closely monitor every aspect of self checkout. There seem to be many helpful employees here, but clearly not ALL of them. I am glad that this is not my normal Von's! read more

BEWARE, Inaccurate prices! I entered my club card number on the machine while paying and the discounts on the Pop Chips I was buying did NOT come up. So I asked the cashier and he begrudgingly added a discount. However, he seemed very annoyed about it and he did not send anyone to check (Which is what most grocery stores do). After I paid, my friend who was behind me in line, had the same happen to her with a different product. The casher was very upset about it and he gave us attitude. Instead he should have sent someone to check the prices, since he did not do it and his answer was that "not all things are on sale ladies" so my friend went to check. meanwhile he complained to me about the line of customers getting longer and how not everything is on sale. Sure, not everything is on sale, but the items that we picked WERE on sale, or at least the signs CLAIMED they were or we would have picked different ones. My one star review is because the store has INACCURATE prices when items are scanned. The items we were trying to buy had a Sale sign posted, but the prices were not coming up as a sale after we entered our club card number. Most people rely on the scanner and don't pay attention, which means they are likely being overcharged. The cashier also had a bad and confrontational attitude. So watch the screen carefully while paying! or find another grocery store. read more

It's relatively clean. The layout doesn't make sense to me, the meat and dairy selection left a lot to be desired, and the checkout clerks did not seem very knowledgeable. I asked for cold things to be bagged together (so that I could make sure to take that bag out first and put away, as I have a young child and I sometimes unloading the car can be chaotic). I ended up finding the cold stuff spread out in all the bags, and stuff was smashed and not packed well. The sales were pretty good on a few items, but I don't think I'll come back. read more

I put in an order online for delivery. It was not picked up by the delivery company. I understand this wasn't Von's fault, so I said I would come pick it up the following day... I called the store before I drove into town to make sure it was ready, because I didn't want to waste the gas and time if it wasn't. It took me 4 calls/waiting on hold before I finally got a person in customer service. Then they transferred me to the delivery customer service desk, who then dropped my call. I had to call/wait on hold twice to get a person to cancel the more than $400 worth of groceries. THAT is Von's fault, and now Raley's will be my new go-to grocery store in Oakhurst. read more

Hey so we are locals and popped in on Monday 2:30 pm to grab 5 things. We got to the check out saw the massive lines at every cashier and at self serve. Like 50 carts in all the lines. We put our items back and left. Decided to go to Raleys- where we normally shop. We tried to talk to the manager at Vons. We asked if he has more cashiers to add and he said " yes when I have time". Ordered cake for my daughter 14th birthday a few days ago , 25 minutes in bakery, finally got a manager to take the order , go to get it today and it's all wrong. Suppose to be a gift box and it's mini mouse. The manager offered it for free which was nice but the nasty lady took a figurine off the counter and put it back on the cake. Then she kept coughing and touching the cake. Eeewwwwwhh! She needs to go back to the traveling carnival and not work for a place where she comes in contact with food. Mistakes happen but yuck !!!!! Von's to say the least is ' dingy '. The one time I order a sandwich there before I headed to a hike their deli food was covered in flies also I was their early in the morning and they still had old deli food out. So their deli food is fly covered and old. Despite the fact that the food that is made in the deli and bakery is covered in flies, not close to fresh, and has a terrible presentation the rest of the place is fine. Isles are organized and clean. The produce area is fairly large compared to their competitor Grocery Outlet but not as quite assorted as their other competitor Raley's. Staff is average their self-checkout is what is expected most of the time slower than regular checkout and the monitors can't keep up with it. Prices are bit expensive due to the fact that you're in a tourist town. read more

I ordered $160 worth of groceries to be delivered between 5 and 9 tonight, things I needed to prepare early tomorrow morning for a function, and after waiting for three and a half hours called to find out where my order was only to be told it never got processed, even though I was charged for it. No apology. I was told I will get my money back in 7 days, for food I never got. Now I have to be at the other store in town at 6 am if I'm to have any chance of being ready for the function on time. Came here last night after a terrible experience at Raley's. The employee working in the bakery area was super nice, helpful, and accommodating. The store was nicely stocked, neat, and clean. After dealing with such blatant disrespect at Raley's, I was never so happy to be a Von's customer as I was last night lol read more
