Beware - price scam I purchased a few items and after purchasing reviewed the receipt due to the high amount for 2 items. The price items were incorrect and I was charged a higher amount than what was advertised. I talked to two employees and they said it was a mistake yet on one of the items could not find the correct listing as advertised. Two chicken breast, 1 lb of turkey sausage, 10 potatoes, 3 carrots, 3 celery stock, 1/2 lb of corn, 1/2 an onion and 1 lb of bacon went to waste because we bought some heavy whipping cream from Coarsegold Market. The heavy whipping cream doesn't expire until May 29th, but their refrigeration is so bad that anything in there goes bad fast. On top of not ruining dinner, I had to spend $70 and to feed my kids fast food because they were hungry. We will never shop here again. read more

The other day,I had my kid run in and get milk and butter. She grabbed a butter that was on sale. Turns out she got charged full price and she didn't realize it. She didn't have enough to pay for it at full price. Thankfully, the cashier covered the remaining balance. When we got home, I realized what happened. I called the manager the next day. She yelled and screamed at me and threaten to write up the cashier for paying for our stuff. I will never shop there again! read more

What's with this place? The employees all have weird vibes and are very unfriendly. They are rude and like to cancel orders without telling you and then when you call to ask they act smug and irritated. They all have bad energy and make me feel uncomfortable when I go in there so I started doing door dash instead and bow that's not working out. I hate giving two stars to a business I've been to once in 15+ years, but when they are selling expired (spoiled) food, that is what's called for (to advise others). The story in chronological sequence: Monday, September 23, 2019, the bottle of orange juice is at its "best if used by" date (see photo). Late Wednesday afternoon, September 25th I purchased it from the refrigerated section (for .99 - they knew it going to expire). Early Thursday morning, September 26th I opened the sealed orange juice bottle and had some - BLAH!!! ARGH! Items that have expired should not be available for sale. The other 10 or 12 items I bought were fine. The one clerk was helpful in directing me to a couple things I wasn't able to locate on my own. read more

In the last 3 weeks, I have gone to the deli for lunch,,2 times i get home & the potatoes in the potato salad were not cooked all the way, so dissappointed! yes, i could of gone & retuned it but its a hassel, so in the dumpster it went Today i went & got some ribs @ 7.99 a pound & when i get home, there was hardly any meat & they had to of been made yesterday because they were super dry! Guess after 3 times, I quit! Just saddens me as it use to be goor & a handy place & friendly! This is a great little Market that has just about everything you would need. We are camping at the Yosemite RV Resort, and this place is 4 minutes down the road. I have lived in Coarsegold for the past 40 years, and seen several owners of the Coarsegold Market. Any positive reviews on this site must have been written while previous owners managed the market, or they were written by tourists who stopped by on their way to Yosemite. The current management is the worst there has been in my 40 year experience. They either don't care or they lack the knowledge of how to run a successful mountain retail business. They are unfriendly bordering on arrogant. The store resembles a liquor store that happens to sell a few groceries. Many items are past the date indicated to be the "sell by" limit. Many items are just plain bad. (all produce needs to be inspected very carefully) Many will ask: "What keeps them in business?" The answer is simply "they have a captive clientele." Patrons are willing to put up with a lot rather then travel the distance to Oakhurst, or Fresno. I for one am trying to start a new habit of going to Oakhurst or doing without. Bill S. read more

WRNG; This tiny typical dirty deli was served by chain smokers, were all just hanging out, I apologized for interrupting, why? After I waited and waited there... Smokin in the bathroom... Stopped by on the way out of the Yosemite Valley after seeing the fried chicken sign on the way in. We were tired, sore and starving and couldn't have been happier to be helped by Catherine in the deli, who was so sweet to the elderly woman before me and absolutely lovely to me as well. We picked up their fried chicken and mixed bean salad and it was everything I hoped for. Perfectly seasoned, not over or under fried, moist, served hot and the bean salad reminded me of the ones I grew up eating at family bbqs. We got more food than two people could eat for under $15. I came to Coarsegold in 1980, and have experienced 3 different owners of this business. On a scale of 1 to 10 I will rate the owner prior to this last one a 10 and the current owner a 3, only because the market is convenient for those of us who live in Coarsegold. It has become a liquor store that happens to sell a few over priced groceries. I have been shopping there since the new owners took over, giving them every chance to work things out, but instead things have progressively gotten worse. Cleanliness, prices, service/lack of service. Always waiting at check out, with 7 customers in line, and only one line open, while 3 employees BS back in the deli, 2 others are outside smokin. They glare at you when you ask for another line to be opened. Personal checks for payment are treated like you are attempting larceny. Present a debit card, and ask for cash back and you are "arrested". "The Chicken" ?.... It's fair, but if you think it is 'the best you have ever had' ... you need to 'get out more'. I have been patient, and tolerant, even taking my complaints to the owner who looks through you not hearing a word you are saying. Taking my business, which was about $200.00 a month elsewhere will cause me some inconvenience, but the 'power of the purse' is the only option left. I am DONE with them. Bill S. read more

I have shopped here more times than I could ever count. I have had over the top great experiences where I forgot my wallet and desperately needed pedialyte and rice cereal for my baby and one of the sweetest employees paid for my groceries which I of course came back with the money and a gift to thank him. I have also bought expired Doritos that were very expensive that the owner refused to make right and told me I should have looked at the date when I bought them. I am choosing to let the good outweigh that very bad customer service. I also enjoy their fried chicken for lunch and they make the best Asian chicken salad. A cute mom and pop grocery store where you can find almost everything. The deli is nice, especially the fried chicken. Sometimes when I shop there I'm always in luck getting fresh out from the fryer, hot crispy fried Chicken. We are new residents here, and have made several trips to the market. From the outside it looks like a typical market, but it's so much more! The meat is wonderful. Produce is wholesome and fresh. I'm a regular meat eater and its always appetizing to look at and buy and cook-up for my weekends with some zucchini's, bell-peppers, jalapenos tossed in. I have lived in Coarsegold for a long time and I used to shop here regularly. Now, I only go into this store if I absolutely have to. Today was one of those days when I just needed to grab some meat from the deli. I didn't want to drive to Oakhurst so I decided to stop here. I stood at the counter while the lady ignored me and continued to do what she was doing. When I asked if I could get some meat from the deli she told me I would have to wait because she was "dropping chicken in the fryer and she couldn't stop the process". I was more bothered about her not wanting to help than having to wait. I have no problem waiting, but I felt like I was a bothering her because I needed help. I decided to drive to Von's in Oakhurst and get my groceries. I wouldn't recommend this store. The quality of the products have gone way down since the new ownership. I have lived in Coarsegold for over 40 years and I am so so sad to see what has become of this historical landmark in our town. The Coarsegold Market has been family-owned since its Inception many decades ago, and now it has turned into a giant 7-Eleven store. Everybody in the area would come to the market to buy fresh meat, great deli items and be able to visit with their neighbors. Now the new owners have turned it into something totally unrecognizable. The deli section used to have the best fried chicken in the mountains, and now it just tastes like rancid grease. The deli used to have numerous wonderful food items like fresh salads and desserts, now all you can see in the deli case is dirt and grime that hasn't been cleaned in weeks. Many of my neighbors feel exactly the same way. They would rather drive to Oakhurst to a big chain store that is routinely cleaned and inspected then to take their chances buying anything to eat at this Market any longer. I believe the new owners of our Market have also purchased markets in Mariposa and North Fork and done the same things to them. People are emigrating from other countries, buying up our local establishments, and turning them into something awful. read more
