Spending the summer in the Eastern High Sierras is wonderful;however, sometimes you're unable to get one of your favorite foods. Such an event happened to us. Vons didn't carry Veggie Straws with Sea Salt. This snack truly tastes like French fries without all the fat. I called Vons and talked to Mike. Since Vons didn't have them in their warehouse or the producer of Veggie Straws wouldn't deliver, he had try to get a special vendor pick up a couple of cases of the Veggie Straws with their trailer. He had them at Vons ready for pickup in a day and a half. Mike definitely went the extra mile to make this happen. His communication regarding updates was great. Visiting during COVID so I am pleased to see employees actually wearing their masks properly over their faces and noses. Since we are not eating out, and my kids eat like horses, I've made 4 trips here in 3 days. All a good experience until the last 3 minutes today. BONNIE the checker needs an attitude adjustment. She is aggressive and presumptuous and just plain unpleasant. Everyone else, I would be happy to hire as an employee of my business. Sadly after happily spending hundreds of $ at this store this week we will leave on a sour note because of her. This is, hands down, the worst Starbucks I have ever been to and it's all because the service sucks. The employees seem to hate their jobs, and they let you know it by making negative comments and rolling their eyes at you for asking for anything. They also told me it was my fault my drink came out wrong because I ordered it wrong. Nope, sorry, I ordered a iced Latte, not an iced coffee. The drinks come out fine,if they make it right, but the employees make getting your coffee a miserable experience. Oh, and it takes FOREVER to get your coffee. I am so frustrated. 40 minute lines this evening at Vons and 5 registers closed. 7 huge signs that say "3 in line, we open a new register". Well the lines were 30 people deep and went halfway to the back. It was horrible. The last straw was the Deli had 2 registers and none of the deli workers were "authorized" to use them. I try to avoid Judith, the cashier lady every time I go there. She is very disrespectful and always seems to hate her job. Other than her, all the other staff workers are very polite. Vons - Grocery Near Me - Mammoth Lakes, California

This is really the only grocery store to go to in Mammoth. If you come here during a busy visiting time, expect half the shelves to be completely empty. The prices seemed a little inflated compared to most Vons stores, but I didn't check that for sure. The pharmacy is located in an entirely different area with the Starbucks, not even in the store anymore. There is a hallway that connects it, however once in out of the hallway it seems you are no longer in the store and now in the lobby area of the mall, by the movie theater. So you have to go into a different little shop which is a Starbucks/Vons pharmacy. The parking lot is nice and there is a Dominos is right across the street. read more

If this were not a monopoly, I would never come back. We travel to Mammoth Lakes every other year, and have for a long time. Each year, we dread the trip to Vons to stock up the condo. Narrow aisles, items not restocked/knocked over, filthy restrooms, and underpaid staff that could not care less. Whoa is you who needs to ask for help finding something.....no one knows, no one cares. Checkout is a disaster- the belts are filthy, the lines long since there is no place else to go, and prices absurd. Overall, this is like a visit to the proctologist. Grab what you need and get out while you can. The check out lines are crazy ... people cutting and going into the express 15 items or less when clearly you have 16 items and ^... just saying. What really really got me was after I checked my receipt, I purchased dessert cream puffs. It said with vons card the cream puffs will go down to $5 instead of $7. You know those Vons signs that hang from the ceiling and say "3 or more in line and we will open another line". That doesn't apply to this location. Don't get me wrong, they still hang the signs from this location. Its just common place to find lines with 15 or 20 people in them backing up into the aisles. Perhaps because Mammoth is a smaller town, they don't justify having more staff on hand. Anyhow there aren't too many places to shop here so if you are going out to get a couple bottles of wine for a potluck you will probably still find yourself here. Just don't bring any expectations from other locations with you. read more

They're CRAZY Lines in this grocery store! I know it's a holiday weekend but WOW! My wife and I have been traveling for the past couple weeks from Reno to LA and back. We decided to give Mammoth Lakes another shot. Had to get some grocery's and WOW! Waited about 45-55 min in line to buy milk and simple items. They need more employees!!! All of you who have complained about what this store is doing with the employees situation, are complaining about issues they are not even in the know about. Von's isn't the only employer dealing with this very issue. It goes for all of the business locally it is not just a Von's problem, read the Mammoth Times, or The Sheet newspaper. When you are standing in these long lines and paying these HIGH prices think about this. The county of Mono is going though a HUGE staff shortage. We have all these people who come here, but NONE of you come here to work. So when you are standing in these long lines that the locals have to stand in also, remember that Von's has been trying to hire for the past year, and there are NO EMPLOYEES who want to work the shifts required which are all the shifts. So while you are standing in lines ask yourself, Are the lines long because of the employee situation or is it because Von's doesn't offer higher wage per hour, the most OT in the state of California for any Von's, or is it long because Mammoth has 70,000 people who are here for most any given holidays, and no employee's to work. Look at the doors when you walk in, and ask yourself "how long has this "we are hiring" sign been taped to the door". For me looking back, maybe 8 month. Instead of assuming its the employer fault, maybe ask around. Mono County is a very unique place, and all the challenges that come with being unique. In the business i am at, we could use 5-10 employees right now. Hired on the SPOT. Instead of assuming there is an employer issue, think of other issues that might be causing these problems. read more

Carmelita the employee with long dark hair made my drink and it was luke warm. I asked nicely for her to remake it and she poured it out and went on her lunch leaving behind a blonde guy to handle the line to himself. Rudest guy behind the sushi counter! Wouldn't make me a roll when I politely asked after he said he didn't have that type..said he was to busy. He was definitely the sushi guy behind the counter making rolls for the case. Not cool! Every other large chain store that has sushi will stop and make you a standard roll, but not this dude! We walked after I told him we won't buy anything from them then and I let him know other stores sushi counters take care people. I know this is the only Vons or rather market in Mammoth Lakes but I gotta say they have everything! It's kind of better than the Vons I shop at in Costa Mesa. I don't usually do reviews for markets but I thought that this Vons has an interesting and different setup from the one's I've been to elsewhere. It's still nice and clean and organized but they do seem like they sell more things (like socks, $60 dollar boots, sledges and etc I guess mostly winter gear right now heh). I wasn't going to write a review until I read some of the negative ones. I used to own a condo in Mammoth so I ave been shopping here for literally decades in all seasons. Here's the deal. They are open all year. From April till mid June, and Labor Day till November there are very few tourists in Mammoth. Midweek sometimes looks almost like a ghost town. In winter just keeping the snow plowed and the store temperature above freezing costs a lot of money. No, I didn't look at their books. I know how much I was paying as my share of those expenses for a small condo. So yes, that's going to be reflected in the prices. If you don't like it, bring your food up from LA or drive to Bishop, where you will also pay more. That's what we did before this Vons was opened many years ago. And the answer to the unasked question is I have been coming to Mammoth since I was one year old and I'm 74. So my perspective is that this is a full service grocery store pretty much 300 miles from the nearest distribution center and it does a great job. You don't come to Mammoth for the shopping or the food. The thing that really makes this store special is when you walk outside and look around, anytime of year, you will see the most spectacular scenery, and breathe clean ( albeit sometimes very cold ) air. Also, the staff have generally been nice. Many years ago, my purse was stolen in the parking lot . They found it ( minus the money) and tracked me down in Los Angeles ( my business cards may have been in there) and mailed it back to me. I give them five stars for doing a good job under very challenging circumstances. read more

You guys from out of town are so cute, thanks for coming up and making Vons a 24 hour market. Yes I am a local, so of course I shop before the tourists come, get the fresh food and don't have to wait so long. Going to Vons is like going to a club meeting, I always see somebody I know. I don't care about the specialized foods from Gelsons, Whole Foods, etc. I am annoyed that I forgot to buy a pie for Christmas....but the snow is so heavy. But I do not starve, am a pretty good cook and get to live in the prettiest place on the planet that actually has a Vons. So I am a very happy person and walk 5 minutes to the slopes. read more

Yes, it is slightly more expensive than a supermarket off the mountain but that's to be expected. Alot more time goes into getting produce up here than in the city. Still reasonably priced, huge variety of produce, staff were amazing & service was spot on!
