It was very busy at the various times I went shopping so it must be the only store in town. Well stocked, clean with friendly staff.

It's your typical--dare I say Southern Californian--Vons. Not much more or less than you'd expect. We mostly came here when we were on vacation for five to seven days, so I used to wonder why my mom and dad bought brands different from the ones we bought from the Vons in Whittier. So for example, although we always bought the Jerseymaid (or whatever it was; sorry I don't remember) brand milk at the Vons in Whittier, on vacation we would buy the generic or another brand. Like I said, the selection here was identical to our home Vons, but either my parents became more price-conscious on vacation or they just didn't think of this supermarket as a normal everyday supermarket. I'm sure it's normal everyday for the year-round residents of Mammoth Lakes, but for people like us who came once a year in July or August, it was special. I also liked that we got different brands, though, because that meant the refrigerator in the house or condo at which we were staying never reminded me of our refrigerator at home--except for the familiar Tupperware, which we had brought from home, on the shelves. read more

It had everything we needed plus more...we found a bottle of champagne that normally ran for $150+ for $50 less. :) Good customer service that knew where to find specific items upon request. Fresh fruit and toiletries (like uh if you needed a toothbrush). Sufficient parking, even if you can't see the lines on the lot. read more

This Vons sells whole bean coffee but has no grinder. The line to check out at 8pm on a Friday was epic. I'd avoid at all costs.

I know I have no place reviewing little local stores in towns that I'm not from, but I'm going to do it anyways, because, well... I can. I've been visiting Mammoth on the regs since I was a little tiny tot. Due to my folks always squeezing the family into that little tiny Motel 6 room every year (you know which one I'm talking about), I was jazzed to travel to the mountain as an adult this year. With a few friends in tow, our arrival to the swanky lodge on Old Mammoth Road was a delightful change to the norms for me. Some drama about giant spider-ants and a few effed up snowmen later, Vons was our destination. We needed a carrot for Olaf... among other things. Maybe it's the city in me, and feel free to judge, but HOLY OLD FOOD. Everything was just old and expired. Is that a Vons thing? I don't know. This did not stop me from picking up 2 packages of Lunchables for $6. I GET HUNGRY ON THE MOUNTAIN. The Lunchables were fine and they're still satisfying for adults in case you were wondering. I'd just avoid the pizza and hotdog flavored ones... those don't look safe. We found our carrot, which was good news. A friend of mine picked out one of those Disney princess balls for her niece, you know which ones I'm talking about. I don't know why she thought that a vacation was a good time to pick up a giant bouncy ball that doesn't fit in the car, but to each his own. After waiting in line, I grew an inch of hair by the time we got to the front. I'm not sure what happened earlier on in her day, but the cashier was incredibly pissed off about the ball. She looked at it like it was infected, then for reasons unbeknownst to me, asked US how much the ball was. We had no idea. My friend threw out a price, something like, "four dollars?" The lovely cashier rolled her eyes in the back of her head and took off to do a price check... I guess... she didn't say where she was going. There were quite a few folks in line who were pretty P.O.'d... probably at us for trying to buy the damn ball. After about 5 minutes, the cashier came back and was PISSED to find out that the balls were not, in fact, four dollars. They were five. My friend apologized for guessing wrong but the damage was done. Lady had a fit and slammed our shite into bags, causing a ruckus. The whole episode was quite hilarious, after the fact. Olaf got his nose... which is the important part in this story. read more

The best (and actually, the only!) major supermarket in Mammoth. Super friendly employees and management, never had a bad experience in the 4 1/2 years I lived there. Great deli with awesome, freshly prepared food. One thing to make note of: This particular Vons got rated sometime back as being one of the highest-priced stores in the Vons and Safeway chains in the entire United States. Depending on where you're from, you might find the prices to be extremely high. However, as mentioned, it's pretty much the only option in town, other than a few convenient stores. read more

Fernando if you are still the manager here please talk to the woman on register 2 working 3/8 5:20pm has no name tag to even see her name but she is utterly the rudest cashier I have ever encountered in the 5 years of living here. I never write reviews especially for vons since they're usually understaffed but at least be nice to the people coming through your line. The only reason this isn't a one-star review is because I've been here every summer for about the past 30 years and it has generally been good. This year, I arrived for my vacation on a Friday night, along with a goodly portion of the population of Southern California. There was one register open when I arrived, and the line was at least 12 patrons deep. Floors were filthy with no evidence that a mop was anywhere in the plan. A second register was eventually opened, but not before the line doubled (see photo). If you can't keep staff on hand for a totally predictable surge in business, that is either a local management problem, or more likely, a corporate directive to limit payroll. Since the Vons back home has similar issues with cashier staffing, I'm guessing the latter. read more

Vons - Looong lines... - Grocery Near Me - Mammoth Lakes, California

Ridiculously busy Vons during high season. They have some local brews and Root Beer, other than that it's your standard Vons. Produce section on one side, bakery on the other side, meat & fish in the back. Aisles are smaller than what I'm used to. No decent candy section. Firewood outside. Only 1-2 registers were open the times I went, meaning long lines that curled around the aisles. I expected prices to be inflated due to the tourist city, but they were reasonable enough. read more

Like other snowboarding and skiing-yelpers suggest, it's best not to come to this Vons on the weekend. Not sure if this location is just a smaller store, or if they're trying to cram as much items in the store as possible. The walkway between the cashiers and the start of the aisles in the store is sooooo narrow. It can get somewhat claustrophobic for some, like me. :) You can't deny the great location of this Vons. It's really conveniently close to all the condos, cabins, Village at Mammoth, etc. Made it easy for us when we needed to make a market run on Friday evening. Solid three stars. read more

This seems to be THE grocery store serving Mammoth. Easy parking, fair prices, good selection. They have a large wine section, and plenty of beer options - any guess what brought me here? The parking is easy, and the store had plenty of people working to help me find what I needed. Considering it was artic cold, I was also happy to find lots of fresh produce. read more

You know those Vons signs that hang from the ceiling and say "3 or more in line and we will open another line". That doesn't apply to this location. Don't get me wrong, they still hang the signs from this location. Its just common place to find lines with 15 or 20 people in them backing up into the aisles. Perhaps because Mammoth is a smaller town, they don't justify having more staff on hand. Anyhow there aren't too many places to shop here so if you are going out to get a couple bottles of wine for a potluck you will probably still find yourself here. Just don't bring any expectations from other locations with you. read more

it's a supermarket, what do you expect. Not a lot of options in Mammoth but this place is fine. The prices are higher than my local Von's but it convenient. - They offer local beers but beware. Most were not that good for the high price tag. I just paid 16 buck for a 6 pack of crappy local beer. I say stick with the beers you like instead of trying the local beers. - Stuff for smores. They have a section for stuff to make smores but be careful not the get too much chocolate. I grabbed all the fixins for smores in the section but now I'm left with too much chocolate and graham crackers. You can't do much about the graham crackers but buy the chocolate per bar. read more

To my knowledge this is the only major grocery store in Mammoth so it's pretty packed at all times. Expect lines and groups of people cluttering the aisles. Got the fried chicken from the deli because we did V-day this year in style with chicken and waffles for dinner. Classy. Chicken was just OK, and since Mammoth is lacking a Popeye's we had to make do. read more

Of all places to have staff that is terribly lacking in any customer service skills ..... a grocery store?! Our visit tonight was painful. The checker named Bonnie who was rude, lacked personality, had negative customer service skills, didn't know any pleasantries, etc was rain on our parade! That was so uncomfortable, no smile (yes, you can tell even when wearing a mask if someone has a smile on their face), no greeting, a gruff voice that harshly told us to wait loading our groceries until she soaked the conveyor belt in cleaning spray and cleaned it. Ok, props for cleaning but the tone in which she used was so rude. No small talk in between even after I thanked her for handing me the grocery bags that I was loading into our basket. She growled the amount we owed and that was it. I'm sorry you seem so miserable with your life but do not take it out on the public shopping at this store. And for management, it takes effort to be that unhappy as a person and to be that rude to people, you should be embarrassed to employ someone like that especially in a role that deals directly with the public. If I ever have to come back to this store I will avoid Bonnie's lane at all costs. Please remove her from her checker role, give her a crash course in customer service, tell her to change her mood, something! When you have that bad of an attitude it effects others, yuck! I like everything about this market, save the checkout lines & overall bill. It's got fresh food, due to high turnover. Great selection, and friendly, helpful staff. Andi in floral did a great job, and was super helpful in preparing a beautiful arrangement for my wife. I was very pleased with her work, and her service. Overall, this is a great store... This Vons is decent for being the only large store in the area. It is not the best, but not the worst either. The selection was nothing that spectacular, but then again, I have been spoiled with Orange County's oversized Vons. The prices were about the same as in Orange County, minus the produce which was much more expensive(due to having to ship it further, understandable). What really put a damper on the trip was the meat department. There were multiple packages of meat that had browned due to large gashes that had been ripped in the saran wrap. That is not sanitary and the employees did not seem to mind. The man at the poultry counter was busy flirting with the women in front of us, therefor, we weren't acknowledged until we had been waiting there for 5 minutes. read more

Complete jerks. I honestly am shaking I'm so annoyed. I am in the customer service industry, and we would NEVER treat customers the way they treated me. I spent almost $200 there, and they waited until all my groceries were squished at the end and I had already paid before the bag lady literally just walked away. I looked at the cashier and said "so, am I bagging this myself then?" He just said: " uh... Ya. When it's your own bags." I said "that would have been nice to know at the beginning" and he just laughed awkwardly. The food was squished and stacked awkwardly at the end, so that while I was packing, things kept dropping and one of my salads burst open. The guy just looked at me and said "that sucks." And I looked at him and he said "I'll get you another one." But he just stayed put. Someone else came up and did a transaction while I was still putting things away, and finally I was done, so I asked what I should do about it the salad, and he said to "just go get another one, yourself". I can't believe the lack of service or help. I'm so angry. Luckily there is another grocery store up here, cuz this place is just all kinds of messed up. read more

This is the wrought Von's. It should be Morro Bay! I had called inquiring about a certain wine and they were busy but Trista said she would call me back once she's had a chance to look, 10 minutes later she called me and held the wine that I requested, I was surprised that she did call back. In fact once I got there, they all looked so young but nice, personable & very helpful. First time that I've been to Vons & so nice. well done to management. We went to this Vons market. My husband went to the deli counter and ordered 8 pieces of baked chicken. When we got back to our cabin and I opened the bag I was sooooo disappointed. The chicken was not golden brown as expected but instead blackened char. I can't believe that not only when this batch came out that Vons did not throw it out, they had the audacity to sale it to a customer. Vons shame, shame, shame on you. I will say when my husband took it back to the store they had no problem refunding his money. But all of it could have been avoided if they would have done the right thing from the start. read more

Von's is a nice store, they keep it fairly clean. Avoid this place when they are stocking (early mornings). Some of the cashiers are ditzy and will double charge you for items because they are not paying attention. So make sure you watch what they are doing, they give you a large screen so you can check it. Avoid the line with Patrick, he will sing and be annoyingly nice to you when you are trying to check out. Check dates on everything you purchase, some stuff is out of date or going to be out of date the very next day. Good luck!! read more

But imagine my surprise when I walked in and realized that I could find pretty much anything that I could find at my local supermarket. So much for roughing it. If your supply of food gets low while you are car camping at a near by lake - just head down the hill to Vons and refill on pretty much anything your heart desires. read more

Nothing but bad experiences with this vons. Being a local I try to avoid it like the plague and try to make the 40 minute trip down to Smart & Final in bishop. But every so often I need to pick up a couple items before work, again I walk in a few minutes before six, I go to the only check stand with the light on (indicating it's open). I wait for a couple minutes and nobody acknowledges me. After waiting I walk up to their front desk and knock in their little office room and no one answers. As I walk back to a check stand 2 more customers get in line. I look up to their second floor office window and I see Rosalinda looking down and start waving my arms signaling we need a cashier she ignores me, and a few moments later makes an announcement on the loudspeaker "Raul can you check up front please, Raul" (Raul being the guy with glasses that works in the produce department) after a few seconds Raul starts walking in the direction of the check stands and than one of the other produce guys calls him back to the produce corner, and Raul simply shrugs his arms and went back. A few moments later Jasmin canes up and rings us all up. Thank god for Jasmin she's the real star. All the other employees there seem to forget they have a job because we shop there. Always acting like they're doing us a favor. And again why hire such rude and disrespectful employees. Especially with an attitude like Rosalinda and Kim (the chubby old lady with short hair). You can check the cameras to make sure everything I say is true, it was either Tuesday August 30 or Wednesday August 31. At around 5:50 am. It's ridiculous that this store is only consistent in staffing rude employees. I don't expect to be treated like royalty, all I expect it to not be treated disrespectfully and for someone to be there to help me pay for the products I want to buy. Rant over read more

We bought fresh blueberries, Driscoll's Strawberries... and lactaid for our cereal. Organic bread with deli meat and sharp cheese for our sandwiches and grapefruit juice.... I saved $13 by opening up a Vons card. What luxury!!!!! It was a very pretty nicely renovated supermarket with tons of choices, a deli/bakery dept and great big produce section. YAY shopping! Our trip planner did not plan our meals, therefore alot of things that could have been preplanned and brought up with us were found here, i.e. the fixins to go with the trout that I single handedly caught (okok so 3 wasn't going to feed the 7 of us..but at least the beer made them feel full) haha. They also have a sandwich section, a Starbucks, and a DVDNow kiosk in case you're such a bad planner that you did not bring any dvds to watch (like us uh huh). I thought prices would be inflate bc this looks like the only grocery store in mammoth mountain!. Same deals you get at your local grocery store in a more populated area. They run out of food fast so make sure you really stock up earlier in the weekend. Don't wait til Fri or Sat to buy stuff. Mainly because all the tourists come in (boarders, skiers) like me. So hurry up and get your food for your cabin! Pick up the perishable stuff fast (eggs, bread, meat). We cooked pasta, eggs and sausage. OJ and water are pretty good options for liquids. Love the convenience of this location just wish the cinema would allow us to bring it in! I get coffee here frequently when I am in town. My drink has always met my expectations and staff and service generally pleasant. My decaf latte was good as always however the chocolate croissant today was a bit dry so will inquire about the freshness of their items in the future. read more

A place I always stop by during my snowboard trip in Mammoth! a great market to pick up groceries (not over-priced) during our stay, especially if your place has a kitchen. We ended up buying ingredients for making breakfast, some wine and beer for our trip. It was well worth it. I am sure we saved a lot of money by doing this. A comfort from "home" perhaps. A big chain in a resort town that gives everything you expect from the big town. Perhaps most important is that its the only store open the latest at 1am that offers liquor, and any other munchies or whatever floats. Since it's the only grocery store they take advantage of higher prices and crappy service. It's big and you can find a lot of stuff but the customer service is lacking. I watched a woman ask an associate if they had any tissues because her son had a bloody nose, the woman (who probably didn't speak English) looked at her and just walked away. As I've said before if you hate people or can't speak the language DON'T WORK IN CUSTOMER SERVICE. The prices at times can be a little ridiculous but it's a Vons and it has almost everything and the pharmacy is really quick and convenient! read more

Perfectly serviceable Vons. It's pretty much a carbon copy of any So Cali Vons store you're likely to visit in LA. Prices aren't really any higher; a nice surprise there. Great people watching on a Friday night as the town fills up for the weekend. Lots of cougars buying diet coke and red wine for the weekend. read more
