Prices are pretty high here and I regret purchasing a 4 pack of Mammoth Kolsch here, which was about $17, whereas over at Grocery Outlet, the same 4 pack was $12. I paid a $5 extra for convenience and not dealing with lines. Doubt I will do that again, but this place probably helps those when the grocery store is closed and if you want some serious alcohol. I walked into this establishment to find out that things have changed. I saw a new face and he introduced himself saying that he's the new owner. John has recently bought the place and has changed a good amount already. From the store hours opening until 11pm every night, to new liquor shelves and a whole lot more items to choose from. I asked for a certain product to which he stated that due to him taking ownership, obtaining distribution companies are a work in progress. He then, wrote the product down on a list filled with items that other customers have asked for. I then talked to him and asked him what his plans were for the shop and he stated that construction will take place soon and that it's going to be a full refresh from what the store was from before, while keeping the things that people enjoyed. He also stated that he plans on building a better image for the store and building the relationships for the locals, something the previous owner never cared about. We walked in to pickup some beverages for the Super Bowl and the young guy behind the counter was so helpful. I wanted gluten free cider and I told my husband not to ask Bc I feel like that's an embarrassing question to ask when you're not in LA where everyone has a food sensitivity, but he asked anyway and we were hooked up, I even have some to take home! Really cool liquor store with so many great choices! I love the decor and the psychedelic posters in the back. The owner was a bit hesitant to interact with us when we first arrived, but after seeing how excited we were about his store, he warmed up to us. He educated us on the types of beer he had and the distributors he used, it was a cool and fun experience buying beer from here! I just wanted to point out that although other people have had bad experiences here, the owner is really nice when you get to know him. You really never know what someone is going through in their personal lives or how their day is going...I think we should all try to be more understanding when interacting with one another. The older man who works at this store was a complete jackass to me. After saying "excuse me sir, do you accept EBT?" he responded *entirely sarcastically* "oh sure, let me just put everything down to help you. I'm clearly not busy and you obviously need help." I did need help; I have food stamps and wanted to know if the store accepted them. It was a quick and easy question. After we made initial eye contact and I asked the question, he could have very easily let me know that he needed a minute. I would have gladly and patiently waited. Needless to say, I will not be bringing my cash, debit card, or credit card to use at this store. His level of rude and disrespect should not go unnoticed. The sign outside reads "300 beers" is what drew me in to look around, I was looking for a certain beer and found it here, price looked fair so I picked up three. saw a lot of misc. souvenirs, t-shirts, hats etc. Service was ok, since I had three beers I thought the cashier would put them in a bag for me but I had to ask for a bag and he did with no problem. I went here by accident as I thought this was A Frame Liquor and completely missed that this building is not an A Frame. Anyway, this was a bizarre (unacceptable) experience and I won't be back. When I walked in, I wasn't greeted, not a big deal. Not long after though, I felt the cashier (owner?) glaring at me and watching my every move (out of the corner of my eye, I could see him doing it, confirming my feeling), and it was uncomfortable. I felt this strong feeling "you better buy something." I am picking up bottles, looking at the prices and then putting them back. I knew what the prices were elsewhere, but was in town so I dropped by. These prices were quite a bit higher. I had such a bad feeling that I picked up some cheap garnishes just to get out of there (I know, I should have just left and not felt compelled to buy anything). When I handed him the items, he gave me an attitude "This is all you're buying?" Yes, yes it is. I handed him the cash, and he was reluctant to accept it. He wouldn't grab it from me, so I laid it on the counter and he just sat there not touching it. At this vantage point at the counter, he was behind a plastic partition and I couldn't see what his trip was with the cash. It was really weird. Then he threw the change at me. I had a bad vibe going into this place. The guy at the register was a jerk. We were looking for a place to get milk for my kids and saw a sign that said Mammoth Liquor and Grocery. So we decided to go in and give it a try. Big mistake! Not only was it way over priced. When we gave the milk to our daughters they said it tasted funny. All the beer is OLD and overpriced PLUS the old guy who runs it is a HUGE asshole, I went to ask him for a dog bag and he basically reprimanded me for having my dog in the doorway of "his shop" he went on a power trip about a dog bag because apparently he needs to yell at young women to make himself feel more masculine. This is not the first time that he has given me a hassle there, even when I don't have my dog he gives me dirty looks and condescendingly asks me for an ID before I even approach the counter with my purchase ( i am 25) so if you're a young female I do not recommend buying beer from this mean old man he will probably find something to yell at you about. After a 5 hour trek to mammoth in the middle of a snow storm, I took my small crying dog to pee on a tall pile of snow nearby his store and got spoken to so disrespectfully as a result. Earlier in the evening several friends and I stopped by, and upon our arrival the male employee behind the register, mid to late 50s, was extremely antagonist and disrespectful to both us and another female employee of the store. When initially entering the store he was aggressively shouting at a younger female employee for not doing a task correctly. His language was expletive and hostile. While shouting at her he called her names such as, "dumb**s", "stupid", etc. She appeared extremely humiliated and uncomfortable by his behavior. Moments later my friend unintentionally knocked over a hat she was browsing for purchase and before she could apologize he began yelling at her with a similar hostility and aggressiveness he had previously directed at the younger female employee. He asserted that we were "the problem of America!". When I asked if he was the owner, he yelled, "Yeah, I am! what are you gonna do about it!? I've been running this store since before you were born!!! Let's see you try and do something!!!" My friends and I completed our transaction and promptly left without further involvement. While up in Mammoth with my boyfriend we decided to have a little season premiere of "Mad Men" beer and snacks party (of two, I might add), so we checked out Mammoth Liquor to see just what "200 beers" is all about. We didn't count every beer, but there were a lot, so I'm going to go ahead and say this place is legit. They have beers from all over the globe, domestic, and local brews. My beau and I were particularly excited about their awesome selection of Rogue beers, and so were the bros who came in before us. Fantastic selection of beers. Not what you would expect when you come to a little bit smaller town. Since I am staying at the hostel and wanted individual beers, it was great to be able to pick different ones that I wanted without having to get a six pack. On top of that, the prices for many of the beers are great. Got a few 8% beers for $4.90. Can't beat that.
