The staffing has changed so much in the last couple of years. Current staff has no customer service skills. They are rude and bothered when you arrive to order. Personal and inappropriate conversations are taking place while you wait for your order. I live here and do not frequent this starbucks as often as I once did due to customer service. Worst Starbucks I've ever been to. One of the girls is SUPER rude and the short dark haired manager of Vons or Starbucks? with the accent has cut in line TWICE to take five minutes paying in pennies and nickels for her drink. You never know what you're gonna get with a Vons. Will it be a little one, a big one, variety, or crapola? Well rest assured this Vons has everything... We got Mario Batali arrabiata, a bottle of Ridge Lytton Springs for a mere $25, a Wall-E toothbrush for a 6 year old, Gardenburgers, eggs, bacon, farmer's bread, and basically everything on our list to stock our hotel room and kitchen. The only snafu was at check-out when "Carol from Anything Goes" catering company left before us without paying and neither the checker, nor her acquaintance who happened to be the next paying customer, noticed. How do I know all this? Because they talked about it at length whilst trying to figure out how to reverse the flawed transaction. Its nice that they have a full sized market in Mammoth. Compared to some other ski resorts where you're either stuck eating at restaurants or having to buy everything at a general store you can get what you need. Make sure you buy a fire log starter if you don't have a cabin with a gas fireplace or you might spend the first few hours in a very cold cabin. read more

40 years ago there were two Vons in town and 2 small private groceries. Now there is just one grocery in town and it sells more than any other Vons in their chain. Love it or hate it, it is it! I live locally and EVERY visit has encountered the most unprofessional staff. The checkers are hilarious and super outgoing, but I don't want to hear about the staffing shortage, why this employee isn't back from their break, how this other employee has "mental issues", talking about taking shots of Fireball, and all the other coworker crap talking. One visit the female bagger stopped bagging my groceries and walked off to talk to a friend who walked into the store. I NEVER write reviews, but it's obvious this place is run shabbily. As for the Starbucks, I hate to deal with parking in the village so I always go here and it's hit or miss. I'm not sure what the lady's name is with the accent, but she has HORRIBLE customer service skills. I don't need some warm encounter, I just want my coffee without an attitude. A week ago a woman was trying to by a gift card and the new cashier was ringing it up and that manager lady starts arguing with her and another employee about how they can't ring up gift cards and then she was SO rude to the poor woman who was trying to by the gift card and was being very sweet. Yikes. Very slow service and cashier was obviously having a bad day. She wasn't remotely friendly and she struggled just to say "hello." Line was out the door but there was no sense of urgency behind the counter at all. Seemed like one of the 2 baristas was training, so I don't fault them for taking a long time on the drinks. read more

Always shop here when we are in town. So convenient as it is just down the street from where we usually stay. The employees are always friendly. I felt bad when I had to return something because it didn't work properly. The manager was super nice and no hassle to return the item. read more

has it come to the point where i'm reviewing vons now? i must really be bored. but anyway, its a pretty good vons. i give it 4 stars for the cleanliness and for all of the different variety of goods that they have stocked. -1 star though for how packed this place gets on the weekends. its really the only major grocery store in town, which means huge crowds of crazies fighting through the isles. trying to navigate a cart there is worse than trying to drive through the parking lot of an asian strip mall. but it is the place to go to stock your condo with beer & pasta. read more

Unfortunately I can not for the life of me remember his name... but he was working at the deli on 1/27/13 around 5:30pm-6pm. He was so friendly and so eager to help us. This Von's is awesome, they have everything I have needed for our camping trips. Yes, their camp related food items are a little inflated but I'm still willing to buy everything we need. We really enjoy the $2.00 breakfast burritos from the deli as well. What makes this Von's spectacular (for the last 2 years, that's when we noticed him) is Patrick, the morning check stand guy. He's white, wears hipster glasses, and sounds like he's had about 8 cups of coffee within the hour- he is very witty, polite, and makes that boring question "do you have a Von's rewards card?" Very entertaining. We earned a free sandwich with our rewards points and he lit up like we had just won the lottery. Go to Von's, get breakfast, and get free humor. This review is for the Pharmacy not the Starbucks. The clinic that I had gone to messed up on the pharmacy that my prescription was supposed to go to. It was supposed to go to this pharmacy but ended up in one in Nevada. This pharmacy had to call the Nevada pharmacy a few times to get them to send it to them. They called me later on in the day to say that they got it all straightened out. I had to wait a day to go get it because they had to order it, but that was no problem. In my opinion they went above and beyond and I am grateful for all the work that they did read more

I just needed a couple things, so I stopped in this market. I was afraid to purchase the Vons skinless boneless chicken breast because the packaging was all ballooned out, I know this is not a good sign,so i purchased the foster farms instead..I walked by the deli, and was wanting to get some potatoe salad, the man at the hot case did not acknowledge me, so proceeded to go to check out, the man behind the counter then yelled out , "hey if thats not yours, dont pick it up,dont take it if its not yours", so he noticed my kid picking up a green rubber bracelet, from the ground, my kid was so embarrassed, so he noticed the kid picking up garbage from the floor, but not the customer waiting at the counter for customer service. I let the cashier know about the chicken in the meat dept., she might wanna let her manager know.,by the way I was waiting a few minutes at the check stand, waiting for the cashier to finish her conversation in spanish, with the woman that had 2 items. And when I had my groceries paid for, I went to the manager at the desk, where the man David from deli showed up, and let her know that I had been waiting at the counter, and had not been ackowledged, and guy david started mouthing off to me.. After reading some of the reviews below, it seemed good to me to write down a few observations about Von's. #1. I've been shopping in this store since it first opened, and do not recall ever having anyone treat me rudely. They may be hurried, but not rude. #2. The town of Mammoth is small in population, approximately 8,000 people live here permanently. In season, this town swells to over 35,000! #3. When there is a rush of people in the store, the shelves are quickly emptied. The staff at these times are all in front manning the registers. Generally, we shop in the mornings and it is never busy and the shelves are always fully stocked... #4. The mess in the store can be fully attributed to the shoppers who take something from one place, change their mind, and leave it in another. It is probably not the best use of time to have someone continually scanning all the shelves for misplaced items... #5. Groceries are a bit higher in cost here in Mammoth Lakes as there is a great deal of additional transportation necessary to bring the goods up here. It would make sense that there is a higher cost in fuel to deliver the groceries, and the cost of fuel would, in turn, be passed on to those who shop in Mammoth. Note: You can always go to Bishop to shop... but then you have to drive about an hour each way...but the groceries are a little cheaper... Either way, you pay for the fuel... #6. Knowing this store from the beginning, I can surely see how it has expanded it's services and brings people what they are looking for. Everyone there has been extremely helpful when I am unable to find something. #7. The fresh produce here is better by far than my Albertson's at home in SoCal! Its a typical Vons with all the things needed for a weekend trip to Mammoth. Prices are a bit high, but hey its a resort and your expected to pay a bit more for item shipped from a large city. People were friendly and helpful as well. I was very surprised at all the high end liquor stocked in the alcohol aisle. read more

They don't take criticism well ! I complained about the associated Starbucks and they tried to get me arrested ! I guess a letter to Starbucks suggesting that they lose their franchise if there is one would be better at the corporate level. It definitely was harrassment ! the Vons store employees followed me around the parking lot and called the police including the manager who I had asked to talk to and couldn't, the nerve those idiots have is astounding. At least the police know that mere clerks do not rule the world and that 'kill the messenger' is Not the law of the land. Avoid the dwarf with the bald head that is some kind of minor manager, his affect is just not right, something is amiss upstairs. Just because they are from a small town does not excuse this behavior, they have to follow the rules also. I am from a small town also but we are humans and not sheep. The fact remains that the Starbucks service was very disrespectful of people's time. The poor baristas are overwhelmed because of understaffing at the counter. One person cannot give good service when it gets jammed up. Two sets of people in the line had leave because of movies, hairdresser. I was complaining for them also. This is the Highest grossing Vons in CA and it seems they can not hire enough or refuse to hire enough cashiers. They have 10 check out lanes and its common to see only 2 lanes open and their is no self checkout lane. Get with the times!!! Lines are usually horrendous even mid week when the weekend crowds are not around. With how expensive the produce at this Vons is and how much cash this store brings in their is no excuse, it makes for a very bad consumer experience. I avoid this place when I can. I usually go to the vons in Bishop (40 miles aaway) much better service there. This vons is highly disappointing mainly because of the long cashier lines, a problem that could easily be fixed.... read more

I am a local and would like to warn ALL locals and tourists that this Vons routinely sells past date food! I just experienced it again tonight - the frozen chicken breasts that I just bought home expired on Nov 14, 2014 (today is Jan 3, 2015!). I have found an entire shelf of mayo past date by months. The baked goods are often past date as are lunch meats and hotdogs! This store is a health hazard! I am going to file a complaint with the health department as soon as they open Monday morning. I am over having to check every single item I put in my cart for an expiration date - that should be on the mangers of Vons job NOT the customers - what country do we live in anyway? Von's you are a health hazard - clean up your act before someone seriously gets ill ingesting your past date items. Get rid of the mice too! read more

Andre (one of the managers) was amazing. He went out of his way to help us find a lost wallet we had left at Starbucks. Long story short....he took the time to go back with us to Starbucks and look in places the baristas hadn't bothered to look. Voila...he found the wallet! It literally saved our vacation. Generally we find what we need here, but probably partly because of the labor shortage, service and deli quality have declined. Long lines in shoulder season last night. Just not enough checkers. Our checker was complaining loudly about how little help he had. And we used to love the deli chicken tenders, but now they are thin and stringy, mostly fry. Bakery items tend to be pretty good, and produce is ok, not nearly as bad as some reviewers claim. read more
