It's funny, I worked at this Vons about 5 years ago, and have gone through the reviews and realized that most of the people who wrote a review are people who work, or have worked at this Vons. I guess they are trying to make themselves look good. Well I guess some people just aren't honest anymore. Let's begin. I went to this Vons the other day around 10pm to pick up some milk. I stood in line for a good few minutes. Usually the closing shifts only have 1 supervisor, 1 cashier and 1 courtesy clerk. As the cashier got to my milk and began scanning she was constantly talking to the people in front of me. So I received no, "Hi how are you doing?" Or anything. Finally the people that were ahead of me next and with this the cashier looked at me and said, "Alright that will be - OH HEY!" I turned behind me to see a few customers saying hello to the cashier. She knew them obviously and begins having a conversation with them. After I finish sliding my card and finish paying the cashier quickly bags my things and flings my milk to the side and continues to conversates with the customer. I say, "Thank you.." (dryly of course) And she says, "Uh huh, bye." Worst customer service at a Vons. And yes I got her name and it is Yvonne. Stir clear from her line if possible. read more

Lines are always the deal breaker here. You have to literally dress in a clown costume if you want to see anyone smile here. Supplies are usually low on the things you want but the place is clean and organized. The deli meat is beyond gross. They really need to bring in some premium deli cuts like boar's head. Their brand is always slimy and rots within a day. Blah. read more

Deli sandwich was clearly very old! Cheese inside had a hard stale rind. Bread was so stale it was crumbling to powder. Inedible. Whoever is managing that deli is not doing a good job. read more

Quickly stopped by to pick up a balloon for Valentine's Day. There was plenty of parking in the lot and many items to choose from. By the way, I am also playing the monopoly game, and the cashier didn't offer to give me my *one* ticket... But when I asked for it nicely, she gave me 5!!! read more

Its pharmacy is okay, they do always serve good and constant availability on their medicine. Cashier? Eeww...no different than other Vons, especially in University Ave, La Mesa. read more

I love this vons. Their staff is friendly and very helpful. I love coming here for food and or house products while i still buy flowers here also. Their hot food is great but i wasn't too fond of their lemongrass chicken rotisserie. Im sure everything else is the bomb though. Try their potato salad. read more

I come to this Vons a couple times month to get money orders and to buy groceries. I have had no problems during the day the staff is always courteous and the lines move fairly quick. However, after 8 pm, forget about it. They're very short staffed at night, and the staff is incredibly rude. Yesterday, I had a very bad experience with a woman named Virgie. She consistently has a bad attitude and is short and rude with customers. She seems miserable at her job and shouldn't be working the front end with such attitude. With such high prices and a few bad experiences, I will probably not be coming back. read more

Terrible terrible customer service. I came during the night shift today 3/8/16 to buy some groceries at this location and a employee named Amanda from stocking department start harassing us while we shopping we ask her to identify her self which she rejected to provide her name and she started cursing us for requesting this information. She wasn't even wearing a uniform we had to go ask to the cashier the name of this bad employee but so far I know stocking staff shouldn't even be dealing with customers . Very rude and very disrespectful employee. I want to see what Von's head quarters have to say about this bad impression that their staff is giving to the whole company. Please do something about it because I love your store and I'm really disappointed about the screening on new employees . This is not what Von's used to be before. read more

I came in with my husband (we're both in our 20's but look well over 21). I didn't bring my wallet because like many married couples, only one of us was paying for the groceries. We decided last minute to take advantage of the Guiness beer special and were told he could not purchase it because I didn't have my ID on me. I understand the stress businesses are under to not serve underage, but it's bad business to turn down a sale to two people who are clearly adults. The only places I have been double ID'd are restaurants and bars. It was very frustrating considering that again, I don't expect to need my wallet when I'm with my husband and he is making the purchase. The employee was not friendly and to make matters worse when I called customer service I was put on hold and disconnected FOUR times. Big enormous Kudos for this locations BAGELS!!! OMG they make the best bagels I've ever had. Better than an actual bagel shop. They are called "artisan" bagels, and they are so good! I loved their asiago and the cheddar ones, also the everything ones. But I'm really a cheese lover, so I go back to the asiago and cheddar ones. There is such an assortment of them, it's so easy to get carried away and buy a few different ones. Keep looking at the Vons mailing, sometimes they have them on sale, once I got them for .25 cents each, what a deal! regularly they run like .75 cents each. They have a great bakery at this location. I haven't been to other ones so I don't know, but this place rocks with the bagels they make. read more

I moved out of the neighborhood 3 years ago but still go to this Vons! They have the BEST PHARMACY, an amazing bakery dept which will help with any idea u have and a beautiful floral dept. Next wedding, reception, or special occasion- I'm having them do the flowers. And a good group working deli. The only complaint about this store would be the parking lot and some of the weirdos who solicit. I love this store. read more

Love this Von's ... The customers here for whatever reason are very rude. But the staff handles it very well.

This is my go to grocery spot . The selection is good and prices are decent . The deli always has tasty rotisserie chickens available and that's good for a cheap and quick dinner . The thing that this Von's falls short on is service . The service is pretty bad , I do have some good experiences every once in a while but most of the time it stinks . I feel like I'm a bother and when I have a question I usually get a roll of the eyes . This goes up to even management , been helped a few times by managers and each time they haven't been very friendly either . read more

I periodically shop here (only grocery store I pass on drive home from work), and I am so disappointed with this location. Incredibly long lines after work (15-20 mins on average even in express line) and limited selection. No self checkout, locked bathrooms, and customer service is typically mediocre- shopping here is usually a very frustrating experience. read more

I sometimes go to this Vons because I live so close to 2 of them. Today, they really exceeded my expectations. Several employees asked me if they could help me and when I was looking for an item, the manager went to the back and checked for me. Unfortunately, they were out, but the manager, JR, let me buy another similar item for the same price. Then, there was no wait for a cashier and the cashier was just as helpful. Very clean and well managed store. We have always had a great shopping experience there. The checkout lines are short, always stocked with weekly specials and great fresh produce. Floral shop is priced less than costco. One occasion to talk to the manager and she exhibited great customer service. read more

Today I rushed over to my local Vons at 6 a.m. to purchase a turkey I saw on their weekly ad. It took over a half hour of questioning and asking multiple employees what the prices on the product because there was no sale signs on the prices. Finally after talking to the meat department manager he had knowledge that that turkey was on sale but they did not have time to put the signs up for the sale and that's why I had to ask everyone for the price. He told me it was too hard for them to put the prices before opening the store, the funny thing is back when I worked in retail service we always change the sale prices before opening the doors for customers that's called customer service. read more

I like this Vons. I shop here all hours due to my varying schedule. The store is always clean. I've only experienced friendly and helpful clerks. Only reason for 4 stars and not 5, the lines can be an issue at times. read more

If I can give negative rating, definitely I would since I had the worst pharmacy experience at this location, the pharmacy manager Peter is really rude and unprofessional, my dad lost his non-controlled medicine, I called the pharmacy to request another refill and pay out of pocket, but the pharmacist peter refused and said that he think that my dad is not using his medicine properly! and he can't refill it to him, even after I told him that he lost it and he has no medicine and he really needs it by now! I am working with another chain pharmacy but because I'm using good Rx so it is cheaper to get it from Vons pharmacy and because of my job in pharmacy I know the laws, and how we should provide excellent experience to patients, show empathy, taking care of them and be professional, but the way this manager deals with me lacks any of these and really disappointing to see a person like him work as manager at such big company. Finally, I called the corporate office to reported this issue and waiting for it to be solved because my dad doesn't have his medicine now! read more

Vons sucks! Everything is sooo overpriced, you have to buy 4 of the same item in order to pay a decent price. A 12pk of the smaller drinking waters are $4.99. I never pay $4.99....CVS charges $2.99 for the same pack of water and not even on sale. I also noticed that the majority of the items on the shelf were past expiration date or pretty close to it, so annoying. Only bothered to go there today because I got a Vons gift card for Christmas, will not shop there again. read more

It's the only Von's nearby and way too small and understaffed. The lines are ridiculously long. They never have more than 3 registers open and there are at least 10+ people in each line. I don't know why they have 3's a Crowd signs hung up when they don't follow that policy. read more

I've been shopping at this Vons for about 10 years and this is the first time I've experienced such blatant unprofessional behavior from an employee. I walk in to Vons this morning at 0900 to get a Swiss, Cheddar, and Ham sandwich from the deli and was met by Sarah G. after she was notified there was a customer at the display. Prior to taking my order I witnessed Sarah G. help an elder white lady with her order in patiently. I grabbed groceries while she helped the elder lady with her order then returned to the deli. Sarah G. seemed immediately annoyed with my presence; I don't know if it's because she was working on something else in the back or what the problem was. She asked what I can get for you this morning. I told her my order and she huffed. She then said snarly, "Is that a lunch item?" I said I'm not sure it's one of your specialty sandwiches I think. She looked down rolled her eyes and walked off briefly from the counter and then returned to make the sandwiches. At this point the interaction with her was beyond awkward. I've ordered this same sandwich from their Vons Deli on numerous occasions and the women who is usually working does not have a problem with it. She is very professional and receptive to the customers no matter what the order. I also need to add I usually come in at 0700 in the morning when I order. I don't understand how this type of behavior is permitted. Looking at similar post on yelp about this Vons it seems like the professionalism problem is at a supervisor level and rolls all the way down the employee level. I hope more people speak out about this matter so the employees who work there that need additional training in courtesy get the required training before they are terminated. Closet grocery store but always long lines down the isle. The only saving grace was a cashier named Tony but then he moved to produce so I do think have a favorite cashier anymore. The butchers are always nice and helpful as well as the bakery. I just wish some of the cashiers would be the same. read more

This store is full of racis employees! Worning if you are not white you will not do well at this store. In fact they might just take your food at the register and tell you to leave like they did me. If you are insulted by a nother customers who happens to be white the cashier will defend them and say you need to leave. Not to mention that half the employees seam lost and confused about what they are doing. Even the supervisor doesn't have a clue about what is going on. read more

I've shopped here recently since moving into the area and was happy with the store until a few minutes ago. I was in a rush but I let the Union Tribune rep hand me a "free" paper which immediately turned into a full pressure sales pitch to buy a subscription. Although, the newspaper is a dying entity I agreed to the Friday- Sunday trial for 2 months. In return they ran my credit card and gave me a $10 gift card to vons. As I finished my shopping the gentleman that got me to subscribe yells past several people. " Hey Jack, Hey Jack that credit card you gave me didn't work. You need to give me that gift card back". Ok, honest mistake I pulled out my wallet to give him another card and realize I don't really care about the newspaper... and further more I don't appreciate the salesman yelling that my card declined in front of several other customers and 2 employees. I would have expected a little more discretion... but hey that's probably why the newspaper needs Car Saleman type pitches to give from hitting bankruptcy. I know that this is more of a review of Union Tribune but I will not be back to Von's until they no longer support this kind of pressurized sales. read more

I am a mom on a very tight budget. With back to school stuff for my kids the budget is even tighter this week. I am not on public assistance. While at Von's today I told the cashier who BTW is a "store supervisor" according to the name tag, that I needed to stay under $100 he ignored this. Then with embarrassment I had to ask him to take a few things off. He berated me infront of customers and scolded me for not being more frugal. I left the store in tears. I have never been more humiliated. I work 2 jobs and I am doing my best sir!!!!!! I'll drive the extra few miles for better customer service. read more

Consistently the worst Vons I have ever been to. After giving it a try 10+ times hoping that it will get better, it never does. The store is always understaffed, under-stocked and a complete mess (literally). Every time I have been here I find abandoned carts and baskets in the rows and food on the floor. People bring their pets in and the staff gets upset with you when you mention it. Security lectures shoplifters in the doorway. I like the location because it is convenient to me, but I refuse to shop here any more. read more

No surprise--my review echoes that of most others. The lines are always long--in spite of the "3s a crowd" pledge. Cross talk among the checkers is normal--in fact, they talk more to each other than to the customers! What few have stated is this: The prices are incredibly high! Ridiculous in some cases. Think Whole Foods... but lower quality, and then that horrible customer service. I think they're able to get away with it, since they're the only large market in that immediate area. But, do yourself a favor: Drive a mile south and head to Smart and Final. The store is actually nicer inside and, compared to this Vons, the customer service cannot be any worse. read more

Most of the time, I hate coming here, but I had the opportunity to be assisted by Ty twice this week in the seafood department. I think it was Sunday or Monday morning that I came for shrimp and this morning I came to pick up some salmon. Both times he smiled and greeted me, he was very helpful and overall, just provided a good experience. A lot of the employees at this location lack good customer service and there are always long lines, but it seems that the guys in the meat department are always on top of their stuff! The assistant store manager, Daniel, is very rude to the special needs courtesy clerks and he really needs to learn to put a filter on his mouth. This is the closest store to me, but he will be the cause of me shopping at Ralph's or Haggins. Some of the things I have heard him say is (to another employee about a special needs clerk), "that is a face only a mother could love." "Ha Ha! _______ (I won't mention the name said) got in trouble!" There's been others things he has said too. The only reason I return is because the other employees are great. You can guarantee that if Daniel is working and us in the floor, you will hear his inappropriate comments. He needs to be fired. read more
