I was charged 10 cents for a bag that I didn't want need request or vote for.

I'll start my review by saying that this place was not well stocked. Many of the items on my list were not available. Several were not available in the size or brand I wanted. Some were available but not at a price I was willing to pay. I had no problem with the quality or taste of the food items I purchased. My cashier was Najavi. She was a sweet friendly gal who kept the line moving well. Most of the prices were more in line with what I'd pay at Vons not Food 4 Less, this defeated the whole reason for going outbof my way to be loyal to Food 4 Less over Vons. It also left me wondering if greed outweighed bidenomics in this case. Being the spendthrift that I openly admit I am I did NOT appreciate being charged for a bag that I didn't request , want, need, vote for,or approve the purchase of. What's a dime you may ask. Well 10 of them are a dollar and therein lies the problem. It breaks my heart to give Food 4 Less a 2 star review. Keep in mind that this review is only for this El Cajon location , and based on my most recent visit. No George E Noble Jr review would be complete without mentioning ambiance so I did and this complete my review. I'm off to create new experiences to generate new reviews.

5 stars for affordability but other things knocked down stars. Food for less is good, you get groceries for less $ , pack your own groceries in your own bags. A few interactions with the staff and they are helpful and nice to point to isles where items are at. Produce department has variety and meat department have great cuts at a affordable price. Good store for this items. I don't know about the other departments, never tried. It gets very crowded, parking is hard to find, better to go very early in the am or very late. I understand the concerns about some characters hanging around the area but I have never have a bad experience is pretty safe, Security on site. Trash bin outside the door seems to be always full Good : trash gets puts in the right place Bad : no place to put garbage and attracts bugs Some people put their dogs inside the shopping cart.

We made a quick stop to pick up some cookies and ice on our way to a nearby party. My wtf radar went off after we parked and walked towards the store. * Dear Driver of the the pos mid-80s Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera with the rattling muffler: - Please don't stop your car in the middle of the front crosswalk driveway, stopping traffic in two directions [behind you & someone trying to turn left in the intersection] just to let your passenger out. Total d!(k move. * Dear Able-Bodied [Lazy] Passenger: - Please move with some sense of urgency or a hint of courtesy by completely shutting the door all the way before you try to walk away from your car that just created a traffic jam. I saw you go back twice to slam the door. In the bakery department, there was a decent assortment of pastries, but unfortunately nothing was decorated in the holiday theme. Oh well, we settled on something. The bagged ice was perfectly located in the middle of the store nearest to the registers. We also looked for ginger ale which was available in 2-liter bottles, but not available in cans, which is what we preferred. Despite falling short in specific product availability, we felt the checkout cashier was absolutely great with us and similarily cheerful with the customers ahead of us. Speaking with her made me forget that I didn't find everything we were looking for.

Had a great special on 2lbs of strawberries $1.99 each... produce has been looking way better than other grocery stores that charge a whole lot more money. Cashiers are always very nice.

Happened to be in the area, thought I would do a quick grocery shopping, ended up in one of the longest line outside, but I found what I needed to buy. Heard from a friend that the store might not have all the new items, but as shown in the picture, they had them out, so far so good

    Exiting Food4Less, asking for change...

The vagrant population is growing... There's practically a gauntlet of panhandlers asking for change as I was going into the Food4Less from the parking lot. Leaving the store, a vagrant greeted me with a sad face and the "Brother cam you spare some change?" He was on his 3-wheeler bicycle pushed up to the front door begging... Where's the manager? Unfortunately it's probably a growing problem that is only getting worse. I will travel 1, 2+ miles for a better shopping experience. The picture was too funny not to take.

I hadn't expected to be swooned before breakfast, but I was. It started with a glance at the deli counter. Behind the glass counter you can see the glistening meats turn slowly on the spits. I knew it was early, but I asked for a chicken shawarma wrap. "Five minutes," the man replied. And just like that, he was gone. After five minutes a woman appeared in his place, calm and unreadable. She told me she couldn't make a shawarma, but she could make me - and then she said something in her native language and made a motion with her hands. These were words I didn't recognize. Not even close. "I'm sorry, what?" I asked. She repeated it, as if I didn't hear her. I listened again, and I still didn't understand. There was a pause between us, but I was completely captivated. She said, "It's a sandwich". I nodded and smiled. "yes, chicken, please." Then it began, she went to the baker, giving him instructions, he began shaping a fresh loaf just for me. I watched, transfixed, as the dough came to life in his hands before disappearing into the heat of their homemade tandoor oven. Moments later, it emerged, warm, blistered, and perfect. She was there to catch it, like it belonged to her all along. She took it and split it open, gently, then added the chicken carved straight from the spit, as it was still turning. On to fresh cucumbers, crisp onions, a generous smear of garlic and yogurt, a dusting of spices. Nothing was careless but she was mechanical and every movement deliberate. As I watched, I know that she made the sandwich with a quiet care and with her hands as if every step mattered. When she finally pressed the bread together and wrapped it, there was intention in it. That was something made just for me. I didn't see any like it written on the menu. I took it in my hands. It was still warm. I could smell it and decided I wasn't going to wait long before first bite. Sitting at a table outside a coffee shop, the first bite was everything at once, juicy meat, crisp veggies, rich yogurt. The warm bread pocketed with the great flavors unfolded in a way that felt balanced and complete and brought the whole experience alive. It filled me in a way I hadn't expected, like a fleeting connection that somehow lingers longer than it should. The whole experience felt almost intimate, because she had taken it upon herself to make it truly satisfying. Each bite was unconscionably shaped with thought and attention. While it wasn't love, it was more like a morning fling. Definitely one I didn't plan and the kind you don't question. But it's the kind that leaves you full, a little dazed, and already wondering if you'll ever find your way back to something so satisfying. That particular store may seem a bit offsetting for some. It might be its location. Or the decor. It is shaped more by culture than design trends. There is a lived-in charm to it where authenticity matter more than polish, and every corner feels like a small piece of home. The workers communicate in generous, full voices of their native language in an open way. It's not an angry or offsetting way, but they are very open and at ease in their environment. I also really enjoyed the $9 a la carte lamb shank and the French Feta-style cheese if very rich and creamy. Both get thumbs up!
