Came here before our beach trip for the day for beach snacks. Good a place as any for beach snacks for it is the Safeway of the central coast. Upon entering there are some cool local nuts, candy, and snacks to pick from. Same features as Safeway here in the bay... No problems, and the lines were relatively short on a Tuesday morning. We got water, crackers, some good cheeses, and some gummy worms for the munchies. read more

Five stars after the conversation I had with this store's manager. He needs to go elsewhere within retail giants and educate them on how things should be done. It didn't matter to him that I wasn't buying much, that I admitted that I was shopping for the free items that had come up on my just4U app (a MUST HAVE IF YOU SHOP AT VONS OR ALBERTSONS and have a minimal grocery budget, like me), and that I was dressed in scuzzy clothes cuz I had been moving furniture all day. Horrible customer service and not to mention the manager that interviewed me was beyond disrespectful all I'm going to say is we all make mistakes in life I was 100% honest with him he said okay well I will offer you this you can push carts and you would only be working about 16 hours or you can work in the deli and get good hours he said we start everyone off as part time and I said okay he then said well I will give you the job we continued talking about the job and me then at the end he said oh I will call you let me think about and I left out the fact that he called me a child and a Lolly gagger anyways I won't ever shop there again not like I have anyways. read more

Why why why did you change the tortillas that you use for your in house fried tortilla chips?? They were my favorite and now they're just yuck! I'm very disappointed because these are obviously cheaper/crappier tortillas and Vons is still charging the same price. Bring the old tortillas back! While I'm at it...customer service in the deli is soooo bad! Need more help in there to accommodate the customers. read more

COVID guidelines not enforced and maskless customers are checked through the line without social distancing.

The employees don't look very happy, and they aren't friendly either. I know Atascadero is still deemed a small town, but no small town neighborly feel whatsoever. You will almost always see a line of customers and only two cashiers open. Thankfully they have some self-checkout stands now. Grocery shopping sucks in the North County period! Use to love shopping at this store. When they redid the store, it was nice. Now I find, the produce is lacking in freshness. The deli counter items are not consistent. They had a smoked Mozella pasta salad that was awesome, now the one they have it prepared with a different dressing/sauce/sundried tomatoes and it tastes awful.I end up sacking my own groceries which isn't really a big deal but when you have a lot of items, it becomes a bit much. I love the Albertson's store in Paso off Niblick and am considering taking my shopping there. Even though it's out of my way, at least I can count on better produce and deli counter selections. read more

Sorry to see so many people slamming Vons. The store and restrooms are always clean. The selection of items is the best in town when we need something out of the ordinary for a recipe. The produce and meat (great counter help!) are always excellent quality. Easier to find help around the store than at other grocers around town. They run some really good sales and honor rain checks. Only downchecks... - prices are generally higher so I come in mostly for the sales and variety - parking lot is often on the full side - checkout can be slow (but that's also true for Smart & Final and Food 4 Less) Grateful to have them in our town and almost always a good experience. As for enforcing masks, I have yet to find any grocery store (Trader Joes, Smart and Final, Grocery Outlet, Food 4 Less, Vons) or department store (Target, Walmart) or others (Dollar Tree, etc) on the Central Coast that actually mandates them for customers. They just post a sign outside and hope that people will read and follow the request. Trader Joe's is the only one that seems to have someone always on hand to clean carts and limit entrants to the store. read more

Per a discussion with Manny, regarding masks and cleaning. He insisted on a unnecessary mask because of Newscum mandates. I commented on the fact, that the converyer belts at checkout, nor self checkout was being clean between customers. He said "yes they are". On check out and pausing to observe the area. Not one checker cleaned between customers, not anyone monitoring at self check out and cleaning. So, he lied. If Covid us sooooo deadly, then the latter should be done as well read more

I had bad experiences here with two different employees. I work a night shift so i do my shopping when i get off work. One day at 9pm i was doing my shopping and an employee was was making me uncomfortable on two different occasions. Another time a woman was very rude bc i did not remember my number for the vons card. All in all i will not be doing my shopping here. read more

I love the organic produce department which has really grown over past few years. I recently was in Von's at SLO and realized how lucky I am to be in Atascadero which is far superior. A good selection and very nicely presented. Very clean and pretty. Everybody helpful if you need something but usually Kelly is around adding fresh vegetables. Very pleasant and helpful. read more

It's too bad I can't choose NO stars - horrible service. When you ask a question you're treated with disdain by managers or assistant managers. I've had my groceries thrown - yes thrown into bags by checkers and when I politely asked young girl not to do that she scoffed and walked away. Spoke to manager and other than a weak apology nothing changed. An apology from checker would have been appreciated but I'd have settled for better customer service in the future. Nope. Went in again and received same rude behaviour from manager who looked angry to be at her job. I bothered her by asking a question and received curt response. I wish management cared to teach their staff courtesy especially "assistant" evening staff. Must not care if they don't lose money. If you feel like being treated with disdain- this Vons is ideal for you. read more

Stopped in here on my way back from a trip to the coast and I must say this is a very well maintained store. The layout is great with easy access to every isle. The staff at the register were kind, fast, and extremely professional. I will definitely be back here on my trip to the coast. read more

The folks at this store are true Grocers, they stand behind their brand with helping the customers! Had a couple of hic-ups with a curbside the other day and that being said, they came back with a gift card and corrected the previous shopping trip. Yes, items at this grocery store are a bit pricey but you get what you pay for in quality (in comparison to Food4Less and Smart&Final). If you're wondering if the app/ phone number saves you money- it really does! I use the app every time before I go to the store to snag coupons to my account/phone number and sometimes receive things for free or at half the price. As for customer service, the workers here treat my family and I like family. Many of them have gotten to know us and are genuinely interested in our lives, always caring and trying to make life a little better, even with just a smile. :) read more

I don't know what's happened to Vons because their customer service used to be fantastic but lately the employees have been unhelpful to outright rude. I went to a register where there were no customers waiting and the employee completely ignored me for several minutes with not even an acknowledgement while he talked to another employee. If he had asked me to give him a moment or had been polite or even professional I would have had no problem waiting. But there as not even a nod or even a look from him. Maybe Vons feels like they can treat customers any way they want to because there are limited choices in this town. I am very disappointed in the change in Vons. read more

Just left Vons after having a horrible customer service experience. My bf and I were checking out of the self checkout when we noticed we forgot to enter our member number to get one of the deals. We approached "JP" at the register to assist us in fixing what we already owned up to as OUR mistake. JP said nothing to us but instead threw his hands up and rolled his eyes as if we were asking him to skin a cat blindfolded. He calls over the manager working that night, Natalie, and says "I don't know how to do this" in a tone that made us feel we were a bother to him. Natalie came to assist and we explained we didn't see where it asked for our member number and she responded "it always asks you, it was there" in a rude tone to make us feel dumb. They issued the refund for the item and after I made a comment to them About maybe working on their customer service skills, JP pointed his finger to the door and told us to "get out of there" we put our groceries in our car and returned to file a complaint. Natalie had no desire to talk to us as she interrupted us as we were talking, walked away and started mocking us about how "we don't know how to use self checkout." Will never be returning to this crappy store anymore seeing as this is how they treat their paying customers. read more

I have been shopping at the Atascadero Vons for many years. I have never seen the freezer Department looks so good. Over the last couple months I've noticed a big change. The food on the shelves are organized and when I come in first thing in the morning I appreciate that because it makes it easier to find what I am looking for. Almost done with my shopping and I was just missing this one item. I went to ask a young employee to see if he can help me. Well first, he had no clue on what I'm talking about which is fine. So I showed him some pictures and described the item. He then said "it should be in isle 19, right?"......ummm are you asking me cause I don't work there, again it's ok. I told him that there's nothing in the shelf. He then went to ask another employee and she said "well if there's none, then we don't have it", totally unacceptable. They didn't even bother to check. Decent enough grocery store that I more often use than others in the area. The main complaint I have is that 90% of the time I have to rebag my groceries as the bag guys tend to put cold stuff with regular items instead of the cold bags. I have spoken to management about this but nothing has changed. Often the handiwipes by the carts are empty, sloppy bagel area and out of stock items. Good deli, meat section, and produce. read more

I don't know what happened to Vons in Atascadero but it has gone from bad to worse. The shelves are Always empty and not from being busy either. The box help is the worse ever!!!! They don't seem to know cold from hot soap stuff from food. And when you ask them they throw everything of $200 order in 1 bag . Deserve to be FIRED POOR customer service. Worst deli service ever they just stand around and look at you and don't even say hello. If you're Menial task job is just to prep food do it in the back instead of standing there not saying hello or making eye contact and just being worthless. the vons fresh food is a joke. My girlfriend and I went to get subs from there and Blue was the lady that helped us. She was very rude and make the sandwiches horrible. the bread was cut uneven. The wrong topping were out on the sandwich, the paper they use to wrap the sandwiches up in was all slimy and greasy from Blue not putting on new gloves before wrapping the sandwiches. Very unhappy and will never go there again for food. read more

I don't shop here often, mostly because they're extremely overpriced. I do eat a lot of their hot and cold foods from the deli section. Not once have I been checked out at the deli station register. They have a register to check out Deli customers, but every time I ask if I can check out with them the employees always tell me they don't have a login code. Which I think is BS. Today I waited in the express lane (15 items or less) for nearly 18 minutes for only 2 items! Wasted most of my lunch hour. When I finally got up to the register, the Checker did not have the code for my small soup. I just left my soup and chicken on the counter and walked out. They put the slowest guy on the express lane. He was even bagging groceries, instead of having a bagger do it. Really tired of the wait times and being lied to about the deli register. read more

I have shopped here for more than 10 yrs and like the store. However, we currently have a state wide mask mandate and Vons in Atascadero does not enforce it. 50% of shoppers refuse to mask up. Don't shop here if that is important to you. Looking for another store to shop. read more

I don't know why I continue to shop here. The checkers are either snobbish, or immature. I wonder if my Chevron points are worth the headache. This store has gone downhill and I wonder if the store managers care. It wouldn't be a big deal if I wasn't dropping a few hundred dollars every month in your rude store. Fairly good produce but there are always over ripe watermelons and last time they had moldy avocados. My main complaint is their butcher with seafood. I purchased three lobster tails and two were rotten once we opened them for cooking. Unbelievable the poor quality of their soggy mini shrimp as well. The guy was very nice and helpful and great to my daughter but they don't seem knowledgeable or caring about the quality of their product. Place seems a little worn down overall read more

Really like the selection of foods and some of the employees are really great. Today I'd didn't look like the regular staff a d the cashier, Michelle, never said hello or and other nicety - never looked me in the eye. Through the whole transaction I was invisible to her. I thought it was rude. There was also a young, heavy-set woman pushing a broom through the aisles and wouldn't move - three customers had to wait for her to move and she was blocking an aisle. Again, rude. She could have said, "excuse me" but - nothing. The way this came across was "you customers are in my way." Not a good experience today. They need to learn some manners. read more

I was incredibly disappointed when I went shopping there this past Sat pm. A huge majority of the customers were without masks. The one way aisles weren't enforced, the plexiglass was between me and my cashier but the other cashier was right next to me on the other side. Lastly, the kid bagging had a mask on pulled down below his nose. This is not a safe place to shop right now. I spoke to the manager, Steve, who was great but it's Vons policy to not enter the civil liberties debate. Costco is making masks mandatory. Vons is being lazy and their excuse is nonsense. We were walking up to this Vons at 10 PM and asked an employee putting away some carts if they were open and he said no. Feeling hopeful because I am pregnant and needed to use the restroom, we tried the door and they were open. Not sure why he would blatantly lie to customers. Typical Safeway store. The only reason I go is when I need to purchase something I can't find anywhere else. They have fairly big food selection. More on the expensive side. Employees can be rude sometimes. I don't think I'm a difficult person (!), just sometimes I have a quick question... but at least two times I've received an "eye-roll" or a brush off. Wine selection isn't impressive at all, even for a grocery store. The checkout lines also tend to be very slow. Multiple times they have had only one line open. Sometimes they will only have the Express/"15 item" line open, which confuses the hell out of everyone. Seriously. read more
