It's been a couple of years since I last visited Von Maur. We recently paid a visit in hunt of prom dresses for my niece. Although we didn't find anything, it was nice to browse around this amazing store. The associates working were all extremely nice and helpful during our visit. Great selection of items, but be warned if you buy sale pieces. An employee cut the tags off my purchase right after I paid, even though I told her I was ok with it being non-refundable. This only happened with one employee. Never had this issue before. These were collectible items meant as a gift. Collectors need the tags intact for the serial numbers, which the employee completely destroyed. I understand final sale policies, but destroying the item's value and treating customers this way is unacceptable. It felt like I couldn't be trusted even after I agreed to the policy, and she just wanted to make sure I couldn't bring them back. It happened after the transaction was already done which is what made me angry. read more

I love Von Maur. When you walk in, most days you are greeted by the soothing tunes of a live pianist. This store is the epitome of elegance with amazing salespeople. They always ask if they can assist and if you pick something to try on, they will start a room for you, without being pushy. Very friendly and professional.There is a wonderful selection of high quality ladies clothing and although pricey, they have very good sales. Upscale department store located in the Galleria Mall in Hoover, Alabama. I like the luxurious touches that add to the overall experience. They have a piano player often playing music. Makes for a classier alternative than canned music. Prices are appropriate for what it is. Some are along the lines of you getting what you pay for and some items are just overpriced to be overpriced. You can access this store through either the mall or it has its own entrance outside. It slso has its own parking lot. I would recommend to go check it out. See if you see something and if the price seems woryh it to you. Von Maur fills a void that has been in the Birmingham market since Parisian left. It is the same feel, perhaps even better! The store itself is open and spacious, even before this year's distancing requirements. You won't find over-stuffed racks of markdowns with their contents spilling onto the floors. While I haven't seen the pianists--so I don't even know if they're there this year, I like that there continues to be piano music piped into the store. We have gotten several nice formal dresses from Von Maur, and they also carry some brands that aren't as readily available in the Birmingham market. If it doesn't happen to be in this store, you can possibly have it shipped from another, though there have been a few changes to shipping this year that may make items impossible to get shipped if they're marked down. I think VM is like other retailers and is trying to continue to offer as many amenities as possible without going broke. So they still offer free shipping, but not always on markdowns. And once something is marked down more than 50%, you are limited to only what's available in your local store, and there are no returns. So that makes it a little harder if you don't know exactly your fit or size. Gotten stuck with a too-big pair of shoes that way. However, they do still offer gift wrap which is a huge plus in my book. Because it is the only VM in the area, I do hope that they continue to support this location. I have had many experiences with racism towards my Mexican family, we get treated differently because of our race we constantly have workers staring us down and asking so much questions as well as clearly whispering about us which is extremely disrespectful and it causes a lot of discomfort in which makes me dread coming to Von Maur but overall they have gorgeous dresses. read more

This store is outstanding. It is the nicest, cleanest store in the Riverchase Galleria. Customer service is unmatched. I got a hand written thank you, for opening a credit line and for my purchases from "Sue". Also men's clothing, Mr Lee, is always so very helpful. He has been in sales in Birmingham for years and his experience with people shows. I never leave unsatisfied. If you are looking for NICE, quality items or gifts try the third floor, you will find it all here. Gift wrap available also. It is truly like the old fashioned, up scale Department Stores of long ago. Piano plays while you shop. Sometimes the pianist is there live, especially around holidays. The decor for Holidays is absolutely beautiful. It will take you to a place of elegance. You will come away with a feeling of pride after gift selections that will impress. I always come to Von Maur to browse or window shop and at times, I just come to sit down on my phone on some of the chairs they have around the store. This lady had asked if we needed assistance or if we were waiting for someone and we replied " no" No one has ever had a problem with this or ever said anything to me about sitting and just eating/drinking my mangonada from kokee boba(When Im by myself or with my partner I always try to be respectful and never leave messes for the workers). After hearing our reply she had said "theres a food court down stairs" In a attitude tone. We sat there for another 10 minutes until she came back and had told us "You guys don't want to sit downstairs where it's more comfortable?" Im not sure if she meant this to be nice or just to make us sit somewhere else . We weren't doing anything bad so I'm not sure why she said it in a rude tone (?) read more

Love Von Maur. I don't go to too many brick and mortar stores but this is one that I go too if I really need to go to a store. You just can't beat the customer service. I hate to try on clothes. If I go to a regular store I make one trip to the dressing room. If it doesn't fit, oh well. I am not getting dressed and going back out to find the right size. At Von Maur, no worries. They will get other sizes for you so you don't have to leave the fitting room. I bought my mother of the bride dress there. I got so many compliments on that dress! They will do alterations as well for very cheap. If you get their store card, you can return anything anytime. Great end of season sales. Love it here! Get ready to shop till you drop! Great service and lots of helpful staff who seemed to go out of their way to catch my eye and say "hello" and not ask "may I help you" which I tend to find annoying. That said, the stuff in here is holy crap expensive. Are there really people who pay $98.50 plus tax for a men's button down shirt? Store was tidy, not crowded, well laid out and nicely organized. Hands down. This is the nicest department store I've ever been to. They are the newest department store in the Galleria, and really spent some time making them stand out from the others here. From beautiful floors to fancy airport-like restrooms, everything just has a nice touch. They do have a lot of great sales and unbelievable markdowns so don't let the fancy stuff make you afraid to walk in. I actually have yet to find something here as the clothing I could actually afford was all a little older for my taste. But I'm sure that will change soon as I will definitely be back. read more

Prom dress shopping. Store was crawling with teen girls. Their dress selection was big enough and sufficient enough. Kylah picked 3 that she loved and she fell in love with 1 and we decided to go look at other stores before setting it in stone. It was a waste of time. She hated everything. We came back and met with the seamstress and had the dress altered for my short baby. They sales ladies and the seamstress was very nice and friendly. The dress came back full altered in 3 days and fits perfect. Very pleased. I'm not even ready for her senior prom at all. read more

AMAZING customer service!!! It's so good, I'm having a hard time putting it into words. I'll just describe my experience. A few weeks ago I visited this store for the first time. I was in a pickle! I had an in person interview the next day with NOTHING to wear. After an hour of rummaging through the trenches at Belk (don't get me started on that dumpster fire), I called it quits. I was defeated, exhausted, and about to throw in the towel. Looking like a hobo and near tears I stumbled into this store. I was perusing the organized racks at the front of the store for only a few minutes before the employee approached me. When was the last time you were at a department store and someone actually cared about your needs?????? I told her what I was looking for. She guided me through that area, made suggestions based on what I needed, and even called the lower floor to see if they had anything appropriate! She was kind, warm, and helpful. She genuinely cared about my experience. I felt like I was shopping with a friend. I wasn't able to find anything on that floor, so she walked me over to the exit and showed me the easiest way to get to the first floor. Once down there the second employee greeted me with a smile and a "I heard you have an interview. Let's see if we can find you something nice." This was the first time in years I have enjoyed shopping. I wish I had gotten the names of these angels to give them a proper shout out. Fast forward to today. The customer service was so good I don't want to shop anywhere else! It's 7:45 am Saturday morning. I poured my coffee and called the store to get their hours. I have my phone on speaker and my thumb over the keypad to "press 1 for store hours" when an ACTUAL person answered!!!!!!! What?!? I almost spit my coffee out! She was "talking with a smile" (if you know what I mean, you know what I mean). Long story short, AMAZING experience! read more

My first time at Von Maur and if this visit is any indication on how Von Maur operates, I'm pretty excited to come back. Well, maybe not back into Alabama, since I'm from San Diego, but definitely looking at buying online. We came through here and found some really good deals in their clearance racks. Not only did we find some goodies (Nike Dry Fit socks 50% off, lots of kids clothes for our nephew super cheap), but their customer service was outstanding! Everyone was super sweet and very helpful. It actually seems that people here enjoy their job. Wow, you never see that anymore in retail! Super excited to look for more Von Maur stores whenever I travel! EXCELLENT sales staff I stopped in to get my daughter a coat she had been admiring. After seeing it up close I wondered if that was the same coat. A salesperson asked if she could assist me. I explained this coat may or may not be the same one since the department had been rearranged. She showed me all the coats similar to that one but nothing really stood out to me. She walked me upstairs to show me what was available there. I found the PERFECT coat, she walked me over to the gift wrap counter and had it wrapped. REAL WRAPPING! Not a box and a bow. That is why you pay a little more here. Excellent quality, better service than I have ever gotten at any other store. My daughter loved her coat, by the way. read more

I love love love this store!!! FIRST: The atmosphere. I feel like I should dress up to go to this store. There is almost always a live pianist playing seasonal music, and the place is immaculate. There is a "Women's Lounge" Where you can take a break and sit for a minute. The bathrooms stay clean and even have hooks on the counter by the sinks so you can hang your purse rather than sit it on the wet counter. (This sounds dumb, maybe, to mention in a review , but to me, it is HUGE!) The counters are kept clean and the clothing racks and sales areas are always neat (with the exception of the clearance shoe room...I will talk about that in the value section...) SECOND: The service. Spectacular! Salespeople are knowledgeable and seemingly unflappable. I have witnessed some RUDE customers and the staff handled them with ease. They are good at managing time and helping several people efficiently. Most of all, Anita, one of the beauty counter sales associates, is amazing. She is honest about products and very friendly. At only the second time I visited and bought from her, she remembered things we had talked about the visit before and even details about my family. There were no cue cards, only good service. THIRD: Value. The lovely decor, pianist and well-trained staff imply prohibitive cost. While this IS a high-end store, and you COULD pay a great deal for some name brands, there are also some great deals. Clothing departments all have sale racks, and the store itself has sales occasionally. The beauty department is comparable in price to other department stores and the shoe department has plenty of 2nd tier brands which AREN'T crazy expensive. There is a Clearance Room (mentioned above) which has high-end shoes for GREAT prices, though it is typically pretty trashed, as people act like it is Black Friday every day in there. It is not for the faint of heart, but shoes are something I am willing to be bold for. The 3rd floor gifts department is very cool...it has housewares, entertaining accessories, home decor and gifts for occasions like weddings, baby showers and housewarming. OVERALL: I am an average earner and shop here frequently. They have a store credit card (which I don't get from stores, but I made an exception here) with NO finance charge and low minimum payments. I rarely use it, but it's nice to be able to treat myself on occasion. I will be back over and over, even just to walk through! Oh, and I don't dress up. And they still treat me great!! read more

Stores like this are the reason millennials are no longer going to malls. Their women's and junior's clothing selections are SAD and OUTDATED. The store is clean and the people are friendly enough, it's just not worth fighting the crowds over. It's so comfortable and relaxing to shop there. Merchandise is of top quality and displayed wonderfully with plenty of rooms to appreciate the items and to maneuver between the displays. The sales assistants are super nice and helpful. The store does free beautiful gift wrap and shipping. A plus for me since I love piano music is the pianists that play on the first floor grand piano. I think the thing I like about this place so much is the cleanliness. It is a clothing/jewelry/accessory/shoe store in the mall just like a Macy's. But.....it is always well kept. Some stores seem to be a mess with to much stuff and shoppers making messes. Von Maur is always clean and well organized. They have some $$$ stuff but they also have lower priced stuff. I loved this store till I shopped in the shoe dept. Everywhere else besides the shoe dept the customer service is great but the shoe dept is horrible. There were three customer service people in shoes and no one asked me if I wanted to see any shoes even though I picked up many and looked interested. Not until a supervisor walked thru and asked if I needed help did any of these 3 women help me and then the woman wasn't friendly. Also, side note, every time Ive been in the store except one time the lady's bathroom has been closed which is odd. read more

Von Maur by far exceeds my expectations when it comes to shopping in a department store. Customer service is A+ and the variety of items in each department is great. I was shopping with an out of town friend looking for a dress to attend the First Lady luncheon in Washington DC. My first thought was Von Maur and I was right. The quality and style in their dress department was exceptional. So many to choose from and prices were reasonable that were on the sale rack. Von Maur doesn't need to advertise sales because each week new items get marked down and stay marked down until the item sells. No additional coupons needed. The sales lady began a dressing room for the items to be tried on. If they did not have the size needed, Von Maur will call each store to track the correct size fornyou and have shipped to that particular store for you to try one. If you are looking for a dress for a special occasion, Von Maur is the best place to Shop. You will find unique styles that not all department stores carry. They will make sure you are happy with your purchase before you leave. read more

Likely the nicest store in the Galleria. Reminds me of the Galleria when I was a kid. Back when the entire skylight was aglow with light and people enjoyed going to the mall. Back when the hotel was considered a luxury hotel and there was a piano player in the lobby. This store reminds me of the old Macy's that used to occupy this space. It's clean it's well maintained. There are piano players on the main level. It's several steps above the normal Belk style strip mall store. It's more like the old Parisian and Rich's. More service oriented. They offer higher end products at mostly higher price tags, but there are still deals to be had. It's a decidedly better shopping experience. My daughter and I made our way to the 3rd floor in search of cowgirl boots. No cowgirl boots were found but I did find some super cute little reef sandals that my daughter loves. There are also tons of nice higher end sandals and shoes that aren't available in most stores. I found tiny Birkenstocks, Olukai, havaianas and various other nice shoes for kids vs Carter's and the basics. I will absolutely be back for the kids clothes and shoes alone. The women's shoe Dept reminded me of the old Parisian shoe store. My wife loooooved the old Parisian shoe Dept as did most women who love shoes. It's the return of an old school department store vs a broken down strip mall version. read more
