Let's be honest; I think Birmingham only got a Saks because of the behind the scenes Parisian/Proffit's/McCrae's headquarters, etc. and where some of its executives preferred to live. It was a smaller, but very nice store with a lot of offerings that couldn't be found elsewhere. I loved to shop here when my kids were young, and I knew I could always find an upscale outfit for myself when I needed. However, the selection seems to have started going downhill after the Hudson Bay acquisition in 2013. Every time I went in, there seemed to be fewer and fewer products and more open space. I think they tried to pass it off as more open space made it feel more boutique and more refined. I say it just made the store quicker to shop. The one exception was probably the Louis Vuitton shop. I don't know if it was actually independently operating within Saks or still a part of it, but it did always seem better staffed with a much better inventory than the rest of the store. My last visit was before the 2025 holidays. I went expecting to see much more inventory for the season. Instead, it was very sparse, and it didn't look like there was any more in there than at the end of a season with a few sale racks and not a lot of new merchandise. Well, as we all know this location is closing. There was not much to choose from and sizes were limited. The few remaining employees were engaging and willing to assist with inquiries. Surprisingly this was my first time coming here . Crazy, I know! I love how bright the store is and how everything is laid out so easily to see. I came here specifically to visit the LV store. They were limiting the number of people in the store at a time. No biggie but there was a line formed out front. Once inside the store, I was able to quickly see what I was looking to purchase. Unfortunately, the item wasn't in stock but Macy ordered the product for me with no problems. The inventory for LV has been limited on their website so more and more people are shopping in person. I had the best experience at Saks the other day. I was approached by Christopher who's a make up professional for Bobby Brown and he was outstanding. I decided to continue to use Dior makeup and he color matched me quickly. I am so happy I have a new professional in the beauty department again. He's the best and I will not have a reason to look at subpar places like Sephora again except to return the items I purchased. I left there unhappy and my trip to Saks was the complete opposite shopping experience. I have been buying from Saks for at least 30 years and this is the first time they have done me wrong. I bought a pair of $900 dollar boots I noticed a little wear on bottom not much that I figured was from people trying on. The boots were way to large so I sent back for a refund. They sent the boots back to me with a note staying I had worn the boots and they would not give me a refund. I will say the interior is always spotless, and there are so many great associates willing to help you in every department. Saks has devolved into a store that can't fulfill orders correctly. I refer to the Birmingham, AL store. I otdered a sweater that was fulfilled by Birmingham. I paid premium Fedex delivery in the amount of $25.00. I got an order fulfillment on a uesday saying the order had been picjed up by Fedex. Three days later I have not received it. I called the store. They researched it and was told Fedex had it and they sent ime to Fedex. I call Fedex. They tell me the label was created but they did not have the package. So I as the paying customer have been sent on a wild goose chase. How would you feel. Saks takes no responsibility. None. read more

I certainly love my designer items and higher end department stores. However, I usually don't shop at Saks a lot. Truth be told I'm more of an online shopper or I'll go to that designers individual store. My mom and grandma love to come to this Saks and it's the nearest one to them. They have a Sales Associate that they buy a lot of their items from. As far as the shoe selection, it is pretty decent. There are quite a few designers to choose from. My mom loves them for their clothes. I didn't really see much but then again I didn't look. Whenever I come here I always look at the shoes. This trip my mom bought me a pair of Gucci sandals. My mom also bought herself a bunch of clothes. I also like that this location has a Louis Vuitton store inside of it. It's not huge and the selection is a lot smaller than a stand alone LV store, but they still have some decent items. So, anyone who knows me knows that I'm not a fancy department store girl. However, after four fruitless stops in search of a suit, the husband and I were sitting at lunch and looked across the parking at Saks. We were out anyway, we weren't having any luck, so sure, why not stop in at Saks? Well let me tell you, that was the best decision of the whole day! We asked a saleslady for help finding a suit, and she didn't just help...she HELPED. Aileen immediately asked me about my sizes and needs, whisked me around to pull a few initial options, set me up in a fitting room that came complete with 3-sided mirror, tailor's podium, and a roll-in rack with my options organized by designer. She then continually bounced back and forth between finding more options (both on the floor and in the back) and helping assess the ones I was trying on (the husband was safely placed in a comfortable chair nearby). Aileen knew her designers (Theory runs small, so no worries if it's not a good fit) and how things should fit (yup, the Hugo Boss jacket is intended to be that length), and was ready to call for in-house alterations as soon as I needed them. It was so nice to have someone who knew exactly what was available! I ultimately settled on two beautiful suits by Elie Tahari, one black and one navy, which miraculously needed NO alterations. Not even hemming. Which I think I can honestly say has never happened to me. I was looking for something classic (no "fashion" trimmings that would end up looking dated), and these have a wonderful modern yet timeless look. I especially love the invisible zippers on the front pockets of the pants, which are super flattering. Plus, while I realize every store in existence pushes their store card, by opening a Saks card I saved 10% on my purchase (and all future purchases, apparently), which adds up! List prices were $198 for pants and $398 for jackets, which are really not that bad when you think about it. I got two suits for $1180 total, which is less than I might have spent at some other stores. Obviously, I can't say enough good things about my experience at Saks, and it's all due to Aileen. Next time I need some quality clothes, I'm skipping Macy's and will be going back to Saks to see Aileen! read more

There are only two places I can think of where you will see 90 year old women wearing their best dress with high heels; church and high end department stores. I hate shopping. I hate walking around searching for something, especially if I don't find anything. But what I do love, is the result of shopping.. well minus the hand in the piggy bank. But I will be damned if I am going to go shopping in a dress and heels. I am not crazy. I am also not looking to impress anyone. So today I wore my plaid shirt and ripped jeans with pride. Even though the perfume spritzers greeted me with a smile, it was so obvious that in the back of their mind they were thinking I walked into the wrong store. The whole experience kind of makes you want to walk in shame, even though you are secretly telling yourself you don't give a what. I went upstairs, and eventually found something. Granted, it was on sale... but it was the only decent thing that caught my attention. And I actually searched the whole place out because the whole time I was overhearing the sales associates bash people. This made me delay checking out because I was hoping another sales associate would come along and be more professional. If there is one thing I can't stand about these kinds of stores, it is that a large percentage of the staff think they are gods. I do not know where this complex comes from. I think they don't realize they work in a department store. Don't get me wrong, I used to work in retail. 10 years ago. But hello, it is retail. You are selling clothes, not performing surgery and giving life back to people. Get over yourselves. They do not have the largest selection of brands, but one of the guys was at least nice enough to call another department store and guess what. They had the brand I was looking for. Well, there are. My parents reside in one of them. Thank God for Saks Fifth Avenue and the shopping center it more or less anchors. What is there to say? It's effing Saks. 15 minutes away from my parents' house in Alabama. So in the time it takes me to walk from my condo in SOMA to the Saks in San Francisco, I can be driven to a much quieter, less populated,. equally well-stocked Saks Fifth Avenue with better sales and sales associates who won't treat you like utter crap even when you're wearing Burberry and carting a Chanel bag. These guys are a last minute life saver for a classy gift or something to wear to that holiday party (I'm only here during the holidays...). Nice job, Saks Fifth Avenue Alabama. read more

Went at 7pm last Friday night. We live an hour away so we went as soon as I got off work with my daughter to get a Louis Vuitton bag and a formal dress. The salesmen in the Vuitton section ignored us even when I asked to see a bag. He told me he had to go to the back for a second and 8 minutes later did not return. Then the older female in the formalwear section was standing at the sales desk while a chatty mother sat on the couch in front of the desk. I asked for my daughter to try on a dress and if it came on green. The saleswoman looked us up and down and said no it does not. I asked if my daughter could try it on. She replied yes and she would help us in a moment. She then continued to speak casually with the woman and ignored us. After 14 minutes, we walked away with my daughter embarrassed and upset. We had on T shirts and yoga pants. I called immediately from my car and was told there was no manager on duty. Saks look at your cameras and deal with your judgemental arrogant salespeople. I had on a gray t shirt and black pants and I was with the 15 yo girl who was ignored by your staff when I came specifically to spend money in your large store that had very few customers last Friday an hour before closing. Rather an anomaly for Birmingham, AL, Saks' location in the Summit is not for me. The floor staff was friendly and checked in with my wife and I frequently as we looked around, gaping at the Jimmy Choo, Armani and Coach price tags. We did buy something: a small Victorinox pocket knife in an attractive blue flower pattern for my wife. It was tagged at $14.95, and then the cashier informed us it was on sale (along with the rest of the items we found in that same corner), so we exited Saks with a purchase for under $10 with tax, which is surely a rarity. So, Saks gets an A-OK from me, because I can't honestly say I'm a fan or it's as good as it gets...the Mountain High next door was much more my speed. read more

Thank goodness for Saks Fifth Avenue. I was on my way to Birmingham and and realized that I left my hanging bag at home. I emailed my Fifth Avenue Club rep in a panic at the airport and he replied that there was a Saks store in Birmingham. When I got to the Birmingham store they had everything ready for me to try on complete with a tailor to handle the alterations which luckily were minor and they had everything done when I got back from grabbing a bite of lunch. I live in Washington, D.C. but frequent this Saks when I'm home for weddings and holidays-- usually for a last minute gift or cocktail dress. I've definitely gotten fully ready for a rehearsal dinner in this store. Shoes, dress, jewelry. Almost everyone in this Saks is friendly and helpful. Every time I've tried on formal/cocktail dresses, I've been surrounded by shoe options, jewelry options, handbag options. They make shopping easy. This Christmas holiday I was searching for some new perfume. After trying almost all of Creed's options, I decided on Original Santal. Two weeks later I received a package in the mail with sample sizes of my runner-up perfume choices courtesy of the in-store Creed Specialist, Tara Powell. Now that's great customer service. Along with a nice hand-written note. I'll be buying my next bottle of perfume with Tara. She's a pro. Shopping here beats the hell out of dealing with the spastic, pushy folks at Sephora. Saks Birmingham has everything you'd expect in a larger city, with none of the pretense and attitude. I DO NOT recommend the Birmingham,AL location! My son and I were there 20 minutes today and not a single associate greeted us. I went to purchase a dress and shoes for a special occasion and was willing to spend whatever if I fell in love with it. Needless to say I left empty handed. There were even associates at the top of the escalator sitting at a table attempting to get card applicants. They looked at us and kept talking among themselves.We walked the entire store while idle associates offered no greeting or assistance. No one parted their lips to speak to us. I love the store and the sales associates, super helpful, but DO NOT order anything online and return it to the store. I returned an item on 7/2 to the store. It's 7/20 and still no refund on my Saks card. The online order on their website shows that item returned on 7/11 (although returned on 7/2), but still no refund on my card. I called the 800# and was told 7/11 was the date the warehouse received my return and it would take 10 to 14 days for the refund. Today customer service said they would initiate processing of the credit, but it would take 10 to 14 business days, from today 7/20, to process the credit. OMG it's not rocket science, refund the money already. read more

I went to Saks in Birmingham to find a jewelry gift for my wife a few months ago and had a excellent experience with Kim Muffoletto. She was very friendly and helpful through the entire process. I didn't feel like I was being pressured and felt really comfortable. She seemed very knowledge about the pieces and didn't make me feel stupid when I would asked questions. The selection at the store is not vast by any means but she was able to find me the piece of jewelry that she thought my wife would like best and it worked because my wife loved the jewelry she got. She really took the time to work one-on-one with me, which I could tell other sales people were not doing as they were trying to help multiple customers out at one time. I feel if I am going to pay for the quality Saks provides I want to feel like I am getting a quality experience and not having to share that experience with other customers. On top of the in-store experience I was stunned to receive a few days later a personal thank you card from her for shopping with her.
