I have never been disappointed with the food at Volta. I'm convinced everything is good. My biggest issue with Volta is how expensive everything is. I wasn't sure all those years ago that Volta would survive, but they've gone from a little joint off the square and turned into a hot spot for delicious Greek fare. I love the gyro. Stopped by for the first time on a Saturday for lunch. Arrived ten minutes before opening and a line was already building with people telling us we would love it. They were correct! Dip Plater, Gyro, and Gyro Salad we outstanding. The old gas station makes for a fun and friendly vibe that the staff keeps going. We will definitely be back. read more

This is a Greek/Middle Eastern themed restaurant with food that isn't quite authentic. They have a small menu but most folks seem happy with the food they get here. They are known for their margaritas which are heavy on the tequila and often specially priced. I'm a big fan of their discounted margarita specials and less inspired by their food. Margaritas are definitely not Greek or Middle Eastern but they do make decent ones here and for the price they will make you quite happy. read more

I keep coming back for the feta pimento cheese - slight kick, savory basil, tangy feta -but the fried garlic mashed potato balls sound amazing (maybe that's where the term "amazeballs" originated!). I overheard several tables talking about them but alas, I was already into my pimento cheese. Beef & lamb gyro, yes please. Huge and I could only eat half - very fresh, great taste, fresh lettuce that was thankfully not shredded nor iceberg! The pita bread here is warm & tender and perfect. The portions are generous and the staff are super attentive, polite, friendly. Laid back, "chill" atmosphere that is airy with an uncluttered artsy vibe. Having eaten at Volta a couple of times now, I can vouch that their gyros are fantastic -- lots of meat with just the right amount of filling. I highly recommend the lamb and beef! The reason I'm giving 3 stars is their sides are not up to par with the entrees. Our fries were bland and undercooked -- no salt or seasoning whatsoever. We ordered the chocolate cake off the dessert menu, which was noted as made-in-house. After two bites each we put our forks down. The cake itself was dry, and the whipped topping tasted like it came out of the frozen section -- a big disappointment for the tasty confection described on the menu. The overall service was positive and timely. We will definitely be back for more gyros. read more

Best margaritas in town! Love their Greek salad too! Only set back is it's a Mecca for mommies who need a break and let their kids run wild. I get it. I really do. Good 'ritas and cheap, good eats....it's a place to check out when you are spent for the day. But while you are checking out, I am trying to decompress too and it doesn't make for nice. Honestly, Volta has so many amazing things to offer anyone. From pita melts, to Greek Salads with chicken, to gyros, and you can NOT forget the Hotty Toddy balls. The most amazing think is the pimento cheese. I'm not a pimento cheese gal but man oh man is it amazing. I could live off of it. Nothing can lift my spirits more than eating Volta. An Oxford friend took me to Volta the last time I was in town. Normally, I want to eat lunch at Ajax when in Oxford. My friend told me he thought it was owned by the Ajax folks, so I gave in. I'm glad I did. I had the hummus appetizer, which was great. I vaguely remember talk about whether licking a plate in public was acceptable, and if not, where one could take the plate to do the deed. I don't remember what it was called on the menu, but I ordered a spicy shrimp po'boy. Ok, so I'm not sure where the Greek tie-in is, but it was dang good! And they were pretty generous with the shrimp. I can't promise I'll eat at Volta the next time I'm in Oxford, but I'll be back, and Volta will be in the mix of options in one of my favorite food towns! read more

This place is a staple for the Oxford, MS community. If you are hungry and think you want an appetizer, do yourself, and whoever you are with, a favor and order the hotty toddy balls. These delicious fried globs of mashed potatoes, cheese, and bacon are without a doubt the best appetizer to order. My dad and I chose this restaurant based on the reviews and were not disappointed. Upon arriving, we were seated right away and had someone ask for our drink order within seconds. The service was AMAZING! Our appetizers came out in record time and were delicious. We got the hoddy toddy balls and the hummus and pimento dip. We also ordered 2 entrees that also came out promptly. Vaughn was our main server who was very friendly and accommodating. Other employees also came by, asked if we needed anything and refilled our waters continuously. Love it here. An upbeat, trendy Greek spot with the best margaritas & weekly drink specials in town. If it's your first time here and you have a pulse, try the hotty toddy balls! I'd also recommend adding sautéed onions or grilled feta to your gyro or quesadilla! The food usually comes out pretty fast which aids and assists with coating your stomach for further margarita consumption. Great Greek restaurant! Hummus and falafel are wonderful! The service is usually very good, and the outdoor patio is great. The best part of patio seating is that there's a relatively large fence between your table and the street (North Lamar). Although I have visited Volta often, I've never had any of their adult cocktails. You'll have to take others' word for it. read more

I don't understand why this place is such a hit in town. I'm not sure how this is sold as Greek inspired. The Greek pimento cheese is tasty but is literally feta and sriracha; what is Greek about sriracha? The wraps are bland. The cheese fries everyone loves are frozen crinkle cut French fries with shredded cheese melted on them. You can do this at home! The restaurant is literally a retrofitted gas station; why is this considered ambiance? They are one of few places in town with a true happy hour which is great, but I'm not impressed by the drinks here. Also, some of the pricing seems a bit unnecessary to me like how the gyros don't come with fries (or any sides for that matter)& they have to be ordered separately for nearly $3. This used to be a great place to go eat and get some drinks but sadly it has gone downhill. It's very confusing when you walk up, do you go inside, do you go outside? The atmosphere inside is quite loud and you are definitely not 6 feet apart while sitting at a table. My drink, which was a simple jack and coke tasted like a high school freshman made it, all jack and a spot of coke, I'm not there to get drunk just want a nice drink with my meal. when arriving we were informed of a 30 minute wait and asked to wait in our car, we parked on the side of the building and were in the view of cooks who were prepping food in a garage of sorts, with the garage doors opened exposing the food to outdoor elements such as flies, wearing their masks below their chin, and taking frequent smoke and juul breaks. once seated, my friend was served a glass of lemonade that had lipstick stains on it (she was not wearing any). she informed the manager who simply apologized, saying "lipstick is hard to get off in the dishwasher." during a global pandemic such as Covid, this is simply unacceptable. After politely expressing her dissatisfaction with the lack of care for sanitation, the manager took his mask down to yell in her face and was incredibly unprofessional. Travis is a poor example of leadership in the age of Covid and Volta Taverna needs to reassess their values and cleanliness ASAP. I would be very interested to see what the health department would find should they visit this establishment. read more

I went to Votla with a girl I met on Bumble BFF. Volta is the perfect place for a casual conversation and great food. They have amazing appetizers that are easy to share. Also, their FROMO (frozen mojito) is out of this world. I highly recomend grabbing a girl friend and going their on a weekday night! They have nice seating outside as well. read more

This is the only time you can hear the word "greek" and not have to worry about getting in trouble for drinking in your letters. If you're in Oxford and you haven't been here, I highly recommend this place above most others. Especially if you've never had Greek. Definitely great for a first time experience. You can eat in jeans and a tee shirt! Situated on North Lamar, the most directions you really need are "Look for the old gas station painted bright blue." Yeah, apparently it's some sort of converted gas station? I don't know. A one of a kind building though. Appetizers: Obviously, I'm going to recommend their hummus dip. Who doesn't like hummus? It's good here. If it's your first time to eat greek, get the dip plate so you can try hummus, artichoke dip, and a pimento dip. The falafel balls are probably good but I've never tried them. Side note: They have lots of soups and salads, including tomato soup! Okay, now on to the actual menu. Their wraps are made using that ziki sauce. Dang that stuff is good. It's addictive. Keeps me coming back for more. I got the lemon chicken wrap one time. I hated it. The whole thing fell apart on me. It felt like a sonic burrito. I'm still giving them five stars though. I love them! They can do no wrong, seriously. You can get a lamb & beef gyro, a crawfish wrap, falafel wrap, and a few others. And if you're an extreme wuss they'll make you a fried chicken tender wrap. They also serve pizzas, though I've never tried them. You have a lot of different meat and vegetable toppings to choose from. Very tasty. We also tried the Hotty Toddy Balls which are a delicious & something your grandma would throw together - balls of loaded mashed potatoes that are fried and served with ranch dressing. If sweet tea is the house wine of the south - these would be the house appetizer! Had the spicy grilled shrimp wrap and it was really good. On the road again, I was pretty pleased to find a highly touted Greek restaurant in Oxford, my preferred cuisine!! Friday night 8PM--busy and crowded--I am thinking I have found a winner. Dining alone (on business) I often find myself dining at the bar (my choice). Menu is clean and concise--not wanting a big meal I was on the fence; salad or a gyro. I had clear view of the kitchen prep area but wasn't patient...so I decided on the hummus, a chicken gyro and some vino. Hummus was very good but enough for a table of four...I decided not to gorge myself, wait for the gyro and enjoy the wine. So far good hummus & good vino...then a plastic basket with a gyro wrapped and a kosher spear arrives. I looked at the meat and thought it looked unusual...took a bite and thought WTH??? I opened the wrap and this Flat Stanley looking mystery meat stared back at me. Never in my years of travel, coast to coast dining have I ever been served anything that looked like this. The taste/flavor evaporated with the visual...for a moment I thought it was blonde Spam. Tired, not feeling 100%, thought about sending it back but didn't want the hassle. I decided to eat and run...finished the second glass of vino and hit the road. As I was signing my check--I looked up and there was a fabulous looking dish on the prep station, I asked my server what is that? Goat cheese/walnut salad with chicken--I nearly ordered it to go as it looked fantastic! I will go back and give them another shot--but will not order the Flat Stanley Chicken Gyro! Ciao! read more
