in the past, have loved this place. However, recently came in and found portion sizes have shrunk by AT LEAST 30%. What used to be dinner and lunch the next day, is now definitely one overpriced meals. Alcoholic drinks are overpriced, and taste like cheap liquor. The owner has a lousy reputation and that's why they can't keep servers long, and you can easily find quite a few former employees who hate the place. I didn't expect this to be the Chicago destination of Greek Islands, but I had some hope I could get a gyro in Mississippi that would rival the Arby's rendition. Or maybe even any other Greek entree that could be sold to the masses in the culturally-refined academic hub of Oxford. Nope. OK...this is not really a Greek restaurant. It is a watered down and highly Americanized version of Greek something. The only item on the menu that is close is the gyro wrap. (Not sure I have ever heard a gyro referenced as a wrap.) The only thing Greek is the lettering on the building. I guess it's good enough for a college hipster, but don't kid yourself. Sorry, Arby's gyro is better. Or even better, go get a Greek cookbook and make a fantastic moussaka. Suggestion: When running an ethnic restaurant, take a risk to offer food that represents the culture you have on your signage. Summary: 20% surcharge, because we can... So I call in a carry-out order for my family thinking that a gyro and fries would hit the spot and that my daughter would love a kids pita pizza. Volta has always been a bit more expensive, but it never crossed the line (just came right to it). I place my order, expecting to spend 50-65 on 2 adults and a kid, again not super cheap, but whatever, I'm feeling a gyro! Then I'm told "we have a 20% surcharge." WTF? I figured this was because a requested curbside. I thought the charge high, but I said no need. I was happy to come in. Nope, 20% applied across the board. Upon inquiring as to why, I'm told "because you're buying food from us, is that a problem?" NO, I PAY YOUR MENU PRICE BECAUSE I AM BUYING FOOD FROM YOU. Restaurant owners want to complain that they are taking it in the shorts because of COVID. But, between the extensive government relief options and the Wild popularity in curbside and third party delivery services, this is absolutely ridiculous. 20%, come on. I always liked Volta food. I had a good time at Volta! The menu is not very extensive and as the other reviews stated, it's "Greek" food, not authentic Greek food. With that being said, the appetizers and drinks are the bomb. They have $3 frozen mojitos which are delicious. In terms of appetizers, I tried: - dip plate (the pimento cheese is so so so so so good!) - hummus - hotty toddy balls which are garlic mashed potatoes, cheese, and bacon rolled up into a ball and then fried I loved the hotty toddy balls so much. Located in an unassuming gas station in cowbell and lifted truck country, Volta cranks out solid Greek dish after solid Greek dish all day long. Don't let the balls, dip, and other interesting menu item names scare you aware- Volta doesn't mess around. The service is excellent, so let's start with the food. Imagine you're an 80-pound chick. Now imagine you're at a Travis Scott concert. No, you ain't in the nosebleeds, son, you're in the mosh pit! Boom. Pow. That's what Volta's food is like to your taste buds. And just when you think you can't take any more, some 400-pound guy tackles you and sits on you (that's a euphemism for your entree being served...keep up). Everything from the appetizers to the entrees to the drinks taste good and were clearly given some thought. Even the drinks are strong, but hey, what do you expect in a college town? Boozing is this city's middle name, baby! Prices are good too, which is great because if you're a college kid, that gives you more money to spend on booze, not silly frivolities like food. First time in town. 16 year old wanted Greek. She's still congratulating herself on the good choice. We arrived 5 minutes before opening on a Saturday. A line of about 20 people were already waiting. As soon as it opened the seating went fast. Service was excellent. Food was even better. We got the shrimp quesadilla and another appetizer. The quesadilla was really good. Next time I would get that for the meal. Loaded with flavorful shrimp. I got spicy shrimp wrap and daughter got lamb and beef wrap. They were good. Thick slices of meat. Amazing cheese fries, I was surprised by that. Second best I've had, outback's are alway number one cheese fries in my book. However the bacon (that you have to pay an extra 1.50 for) kinda tasted like bacon bits. I recommend ranch with them. It was a bit cozy. Volta had many unique pictures hanging on their bright, dirty, yellow wall. According to someone we were with, the sweet tea isn't right. Volta will always hold a special place in my heart as this is where my best friend & I would go with his aunt when she came into town. Volta has amazing drinks & great salads. My guilty favorite is their pickles- weird, but I love them! I'm not a huge fan of Greek food but theirs seem to be "Americanized" enough to where it's tolerable. The food isn't overly spicy but has a nice enough kick to where the frozen margaritas pairs well with almost any dish you would order. Terrible service. Tried to go eat here the other day and there was a wait, I put my name down for an inside table and was told that it would be 10-15 minutes, which is fine. 10 minutes go by and I receive a text that my table is ready, but it is an outside table. Apparently they texted the wrong person and informed me when I came back in that it was going to be an additional 15 minute wait for an inside table. How did the time increase after the wrong person was notified? Was very excited to go eat here because I haven't been since school let out but I will unlikely be back for a while. read more

COVID-19 SANITATION ISSUES; I used to love this place however my most recent experience has left me extremely disappointed. I ordered lemonade and it came out with lipstick on the rim, which I did not see until I had taken a few sips (I was not wearing lipstick). I took it to the manager and he told me he would get me a new one but was extremely reluctant to apologize and treated me with very little respect and seemed to be laughing at the fact that it was still dirty. When I told him I was concerned, he told me that lipstick can be hard to get off and sometimes "those things slip through the cracks". In the time of COVID-19, this is not only disgusting but also concerning that the other dishes they serve are not fully cleaned. Then, I was served my meal, the spicy shrimp wrap with bacon and inside is basically a large piece of fat with a small bit of meat attached. I showed my waitress and she was extremely apologetic and took it back to the kitchen to get fixed. The manager brought my food back and said "here you go" and did not apologize for yet another issue. The waitress was very nice however the manager, Travis, handled the situation so poorly. He is unconcerned with proper sanitation practices. This restaurant needs to reconsider their management immediately, starting with the manager, Travis. UPDATE: Travis not only yelled in my face after pulling down his mask but was also extremely disrespectful and rude. He refused to believe that he was poorly managing the situation and yelled so loudly in my face, I am beside myself. Will not be coming back and no one should. read more

I've been to Volta many times since it opened in Oxford. All through college and into my now married life. We went recently when it was raining with our kids ages 4 and 6. The hostess sat 6 tables before us, of which 4 came in after us. I then asked how much longer the wait might be and she rolled her eyes and said when a table comes available she will seat us, or we can sit outside. This type of attitude I've never encountered but if this is a sign of the way Volta will be run in the future, my stomach will be hurt by the rudeness of a single employee. The food is always good and makes up for the rudeness of this one. Update: recently went back and was treated to the great customer service and food I always enjoy at Volta. If you're not eating the souvlaki you're not enjoying life to it's fullest. Changed from 3 to 5 stars after the update. read more

I found this place through Yelp. It was delicious, greasy Mediterranean diner food served in a former gas station. I had the souvlaki wrap with marinated pork, sauteed onions, and horseradish mayo. It was very flavorful. Partner had the black bean wrap and seemed to like it. We split a side of the cheese fries that had real cheese melted on it. Good service. We went on a weeknight when they were not so busy. We sat outside on the patio which is nice atmosphere. The hotty toddy balls dipped in each dressing were wonderful. Ordered the cap rear salad which was average. My husband had the chicken stew which was spicy and very very tasty. The best part was the margarita on the rocks. They also serve frozen and variations of the traditional flavor. The margarita alone was worth going back. Plates with traditional Greek food around us looked amazing and with a try next visit. The one stain in the evening were the family sitting next to us with one smoking a cigar and one smoking a cigarette and two kids at their table. Not sure why smoking around food is still allowed in Oxford? Thank goodness other diners complained to the family and they refrained from smoking for the second half of our meal. read more

This place is just great. I would highly recommend the dip platter as an appetizer- it is hummus and pimento cheese with soft, delicious pita bread. I like to get the lamb gyro as my entree and spread the pimento cheese and hummus on the gyro as well.
