Servers are very kind, mine offered me a refund and to remake it but the service is always insanely slow and the food takes 9 years to come out. I couldn't imagine fresh amazing sushi in Oxford, MS - but I was more than happy to be proven wrong!! We got there 10 mins before they opened on a Thursday night and there were already about 30 people in line. Line moved very quickly once they opened but we ended up sitting at the outdoor bar. Service including bartenders was amazing and I wish I could say I took pictures but we ate the food so quickly I didn't have time. 5 s for the Kadoma Tuna, Dragon Roll and Blistered Shisito Peppers were amazing!! We were greeted by a friendly staff and they were constantly checking in on us. The food was meh and for the prices we paid, it felt...rushed. There is a specific customer base they cater to, but for foodies...you can skip this location. The low rating is because we dined inside and there were swarms of flies next to us. Excellent service. We ate on the patio which was cozy and surprisingly warm with heat lamps on a cold and rainy day. First time here so we tried some interesting items. Amazing experience! When we walked in, it had an odd smell and I could see a thick coating of dust was all over the lighting fixtures above the booth. I didn't have high expectations. BUT! My favorite sushi place of all time. Went to Ole Miss for undergrad, and was religiously here every single week. Now, since I graduated, my bf and I come every year for our anniversary. This year we started out with the tempura green beans. They are a MUST. Crispy and Fresh. We got the Lobster Roll, Spider Roll, and Crab Nigiri for sushi. We finished out with the River Rock Kobe Beef and Tebaski Wings. I also enjoyed an Amaretto Sour, but it was on the sweet side. My boyfriend swears by the Kirin. The food was great!! Had Kobe burgers and sticky buns to start; both came out quick and we're cooked perfectly. For sushi rolls we did Cali, salmon, tuna, negihama and lobster tempura. Incredible atmosphere and fun decorations throughout. Every time I've come to Jinsei the tables are full and I typically have to wait for groups larger than 3 to be seated. No problem, that's the sign of a popular place. Wednesday is especially popular with Wing Wednesday. The wings are good, but certainly not the only draw on the menu. The sushi menu is pretty extensive and you'll spend about as much here on sushi as you would anywhere else. I really enjoyed a tempura shrimp roll that I had here a few times ago. Finally, there is also a very small dessert menu but you can get mochi ice cream which in the South is a bit of an novelty. My four years living here have been filled with hearing about how great this place is. I've gone here multiple times and here's the break down from a realistic perspective. Wednesday wings are delicious and cheap. For an appetizer the tempura green beans are good. Searing your own meat on a rock is entertaining and tasty. HOWEVER, the sushi here is the most AVERAGE sushi I have ever eaten. If you come here for sushi you are paying so much just for the atmosphere it's ridiculous. I've had better gas station sushi. If you want good sushi please save yourself the hassle and just got to one of the hibachi restaurants in town. I've had multiple people who, have lived here multiple years, say the same thing. I'm pleased to say that Jinsei is the real deal! The rolls were the perfect combination of freshness, flavor and size! Yes the sashimi is sliced small and thin but still delicious and fresh. Very attractive outdoor seating, tables nicely spaced, excellent service, and delicious, fresh, clean tasting food. We each had a couple of saketinis, a very refreshing drink. Our server was very attentive to my wife's dietary limitations, bringing her some gluten free soy sauce to use rather than the usual sauces with our items, and insuring that our food had no onion, garlic, broccoli, or mushrooms. We split a Rebel bowl with chicken, each had a piece of tuna, hamachi, and scallop sushi, split the Kobe hot rock, split the yellowtail serrano, and finally split a new style roll with salmon. Jinsei is literally one of my favorite places in ox! I love the vibe, I feel like it is unique! I like how it's smaller and has a look of wood detailing. All the rolls feel like they have been carefully crafted and thought out and they are all amazing. My favorites are the atsui and the spider rolls.
