We were spending the night at a hotel and saw this place just down the street. Since we were tired we gave it a try and I am glad we did. I have just learned that I have alpha gal and don't do dairy. The staff explained that they use butter in preparation of the food but offered to steam it instead. Wow it was great! Perfect for after a long drive and the price was good too! I know we will be stopping there again the next time we are passing through. read more

When I arrived there were no patrons in the entire establishment. The place was very dark, music playing but with the tv blaring "Bluey", just really unusual/chaotic. The staff were very attentive. I was seated immediately and promptly asked what I wanted to drink. I asked for a water to be able to peruse the menu. Not longer than 45 seconds I was presented with water and asked what I wanted to order. I asked for an additional few minutes and after 2 mins, the waiter returned. I ordered the basic- spicy tuna roll and crunch roll. After 4 minutes, my food was served. The spicy roll was bland and could barely taste the rice encased in the spicy tuna. The crunch roll was encased in some sort of pink paper. It disintegrated right as I dipped it the soy sauce. After an additional three more times of checking and making sure I needed anything. I was presented with check. Overall, it's okay. I would not go again though. read more

Yamato's shares a parking lot with the local Holiday Inn so there was often a procession of people going between the two. Restaurant is never to capacity whenever I've come and service is relatively quick. The sushi rolls and prices are about what you'd expect to pay in other similar cities/restaurants. I never it tried it myself, but one coworker always raved about the the beef hibachi set. Only complaint is that the two of three times I've gotten the miso soup it's either too bland or too potent. I haven't found one that was just right yet. read more

My son and I are staying at the hotel nextdoor and decided to walk over just for an appetizer. We were treated by a cute boy about 12 who took us to a table. We both decided to get full dinners because the prices were so good. He had sushi with a salad and soup and I had the steak bento box with soup and ginger salad. We were pleasantly surprised at how great the meal was and the three children helping were adorable and very polite! We would definitely eat here again! read more

I love Asian food, and this place lives up to the standard of Asian food. I had the sushi snow crab roll I believe what it was called, the crab tasted good, the roll didn't fall apart, and it had good portions. The service was friendly and the restaurant was clean. Overall I'd give this a 9/10 on the moist meter, my only problem was that it was a bit pricey but that doesn't change the 5 stars in my opinion. Came in on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was dead. There was 3 families at tables and 3 waitresses. Waitress skipped my child's drink order. Soup portions are very small. They messed up my sushi order but I couldn't get a waitresses attention for over half an hour. I ended up leaving hungry because I could not get my order corrected. Keep in mind that we were her only table. They were in the party room watching TikTok, laughing loud enough to be heard throughout the restaurant. No one was pleased with their food. The decor of the restaurant is a bit underwhelming. But ! The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. I travel a lot and have eaten in many tepanyaki/hibachi style "Japanese Steakhouses". I usually have minimal expectations as I am often unimpressed with the preparation. Last night I ordered the Steak/Chicken hibachi combo. The mushroom broth (soup) and the salad with the sesame ginger were pretty standard. The entree arrived and I was visually impressed. The steak had a fantastic appearing sear. The fried rice appeared pretty plain. Taste-wise ! WOW. The steak WAS PERFECTLY SEARED, cooked to tender and very tender. The chicken was also fantastic. The rice was delicious with a bit of pepper. I was very satisfied. Brought about half to work the next day and even after an office microwave reheating the meat and rice were delicious. If you are in or near town stop by and enjoy a delicious meal. read more

So, we stopped in New Albany on our way from Springfield, MO to Atlanta, GA. Honestly, between almost getting hit by a semi, my travel buddy's car breaking down in Memphis, and our hotel temporarily losing our reservation, the day was so miserable that the only thing I vividly remember is this restaurant. Yamato is a great little Japanese restaurant with surprisingly authentic food. This place is truly a treasure. The waitstaff here is attentive and patient, which is something you truly appreciate after you're on the road all day. The sushi here was quite good, and had a great selection. The price was extremely fair for the amount of food we got, and it was all very good. So, thank you to the cute waiter who had to put up with us. We appreciated you. read more

I ordered Sashimi Deluxe for $21 expecting to come with soup and salad but they just sent me mediocre sashimi with no sides with it.not even rice... they brought me a spoon of fried rice after I ask them and charge $3. The restaurant selection in New /Albany is a little limited. We saw this place and decided to give it a try. We are not real big on sushi but they had hibachi dinners so we had a chicken and a filet mignon/shrimp. Both were very tasty and well prepared. They included soup and salad. Service was good. Can you believe this? A great Japanese restaurant in a middle of nowhere. Great everything!! From sushi to hibachi beef and shrimp and even tempura. The sushi are fresh and large. It covers whole rice and once you bite into it, you will not believe you are in a middle of Mississippi eating a high grade sushi. From fatty tuna to white tuna. They also have soft shell crabs and a "Kabuki" a very small black fish roe and it is not salty like a caviar. Awesome texture, pops in your mouth when you bite into it. I can't believe how great this place is. The only thing they don't serve is Ramen. Other than that this place is gem!! Inside looks pretty modern, not overdone with Japanese paraphernalia; tone down. More like a neat diner. Service is great. The staff were very attentive and nice. And one more thig, the prices is at least 20% less than a regular Japanese restaurant. That means it is very friendly to your pocket book. We usually eat hamburger or Taco Bell whenever we are traveling this highway. But not anymore, we will definitely come back if we're traveling this way again. read more

I was very surprised with their quality. I judge a place by how the salmon and yellowtail melt in my mouth! This place had really good quality and melted perfectly! The cut was perfect size and the rolls were delicious. If you are hesitating trying it because of location....DON'T! You will be happy! The selection is limited, but all the staple fish are here along with Kirin. Atmosphere is pretty small town but that is expected. Keep up the good work management and staff!
