Volcano has always been my favorite place to eat. Their food is good and the service is always routinely polished. I even love the ambiance of the whole place, it would've gotten a 5 stars. But the ambiance and food was completely ruined by the sight of literal cockroaches and bugs on the wall. That and it was my Birthday last year so why not go all out playa. I had been looking all over for shrimp Yakisoba since I didn't know what it was or ever heard of it and once I knew this place served it I was sold. For $10.99 plus tax you get an experience only people that only have $9.99 wish they could have had. You might be questioning why in the world would I spend $10.99 on Yakisoba when I could have just gotten 12 tacos, a jumbo jack and a water for almost the same price and the answer is simple. The combination of smooth cream cheese and the slightly crispy exterior made the fire volcano sushi such a treat! I typically eat California rolls, but the fire volcano rolls were a fun, new find. I requested them wrapped in soy paper instead of seaweed because I'm not a huge fan of sushi that is too fishy. Gyoza dumplings were exactly as expected, but the sauce that accompanied them was like nothing I have ever had before. It was sooo good. (It was slightly spicy.) Don't sit at the front bar. Seems as though I was a nuisance for the the lady. I asked to sit at the front bar and she had an issue. Then after ordering she seems to mumble something behind her mask. I explained that I am going to order something and then order again. On my second order I ordered the volcano sushi. I waited 30 minutes, and in that time the people beside me ordered another round of food after I did and they finished their food. Now when I asked she said it takes 20 minutes which is bull shit because I have been to this restaurant at other locations and there is no way it would take a total of 50 minutes for an order of sushi unless she never put it in. My husband and I are sushi fanatics and recently moved to Odessa/Midland area. We heard great things about Volcano in Midland so we decided to stop in for lunch today. We each ordered an egg drop soup to enjoy while we looked over the sushi menu! The serving size was pretty big and we really loved that. The waiter is very nice and helpful - when we asked what exactly was in several rolls, he politely explained it for us and ultimately helped us order the Spicy Kani, Spicy Salmon, Shrimp tempura and the Philly roll! We took advantage of the 2/$9.99 lunch special and thoroughly enjoyed our meal! The prices are very reasonable, the atmosphere is great and the restaurant is very clean and beautifully decorated. The butterfly roll I ordered was described as having tuna on top which I figured would be sliced tuna but again it was minced. The seaweed salad was good, not too sweet like some places make it. What a rip off. We ordered fried calamari and it came with 6 thin slice of calamari and was 8$. All the portion of the foods that we ordered was significantly small. The waitress never checked on us. Came here with the wife for dinner on a Saturday night. The restaurant wasn't too busy, so we were seated immediately. We ordered 3 sushi rolls - the Dynamite Roll, Pink Lady Roll, and Fantastic Roll. I was impressed with the creative presentation of the rolls! The Dynamite Roll is lit on fire tableside! For taste, I would not order the Dyanmite Roll again. It is pricey for what it is, and even though the description says it has shrimp, I don't think ours had it. Service was a little slow and our waiter was hard to find when we wanted some more pickled ginger. I don't get how anybody's recommending the sushi here. I had the rainbow roll. It comes with eight pieces for $12, almost $13 with tax.. $15 with tip, for eight pieces!! To be plain and simple, it sucked. There were four pieces with some sort of white fish, which I have no idea what fish it is because it had no taste LOL. The salmon was passable at best, thought the texture was a little weird and it was a little warm for some reason.. The tuna tasted sooooo fishy that I had to dunk it in a wad of wasabi. Tuna is my favorite fish too. So sad.. At first I was disappointed for having only eight pieces, but after I took the first two bites, I was glad I only had eight pieces to eat. I'm not about that wasting food you know? Hahahaha. I will try the place again, but not for the sushi. I will try the Chinese food. Seemed like most of the servers were Chinese, the music playing was Chinese, at this point I have to assume sushi is not their strong point. Look you're in Midland nowhere Texas, don't expect even Michelin 0 star sushi here. What you can expect is honest hard working staff and chefs serving perfectly adequate pan Asian fare. Ironically though, even though everyone here speaks Chinese, they're Japanese food tastes better imo. Restaurant and bathroom were clean. I went here late and they still served me within 10 minutes of closing. Most of the other restaurants basically close 45 minutes early because they're freaking lazy! And they're fast.
