The problem here is trying to get any kind of service, especially on the rooftop. As we speak, (and I've been here 1000 times, it's always the same) I'm sipping a beer that I had to leave my table and ask the bar for, with a total of 16 bar guests and over 4 staff members and I've decided against spending any more money on another drink and an absolutely incredibly delicious pizza because a server hasn't bothered to come by in the last 30 minutes. I've been a server at multiple restaurants for many years, and I'm just trying to spend a little dough on some dough, but hanging out with frat boys and texting seems to be a little more important than my money for this group. ‍ read more

On the roof at Volare after the OU win vs Texas Tech. Better than the average college bar with good drinks (even though in a plastic cup) and great wait staff. Place was packed as you would expect but walked the stairs to flor five to sit outside and enjoy the day. Best thing is the drinks and people watching...hard to beat the college crowd mixed with them people of my ancient age. People watched, drank and ate some good appetizers. I had the ravioli, good but not special. Andra had the garlic fries without cheese and it was great though nothing really for a vegetarian. My sister had the pepperoni pizza and thought it was very good. Nothing special but the view and people make it a 4 star, we will return. read more

I was between 3 and 4 stars, but went with four cause nothing was terrible really, it just wasn't super stellar. The reviewer that said they only have small tables is right. Mostly two or 4 tops, and one big communal table in the middle that could be used for large groups, but not if smaller groups are already seated at it. It's sort of a big, modern Italian, cold space. It doesn't just look cold, even with that big pizza oven it was really cold in there. We were seated on the mezzanine, which does have its own server (maybe it didn't before?) and he was pretty friendly, though we didn't get refills until we paid our check. We ordered the Cheese Me appetizer + margherita pizza for me + Big Sausage for coworker and Volare for another coworker. Ummmm... maybe if you order be sure to say you want your small plate first cause we are over here starving dreaming of fried cheese and all our food came out at the same time. Also, the Cheese Me is really only enough for two. It's two mozzarella rounds. They send food up in a dumb waiter, which might be efficient but I think totally makes the food cool quickly. My margherita would've been really good if it was hot, but it was slightly warm. Same with the Big Sausage and fries, just warm. The Cheese Me was slightly warmer. Everything was pretty good. I don't think the crack fries were anything to tell home about, but I also like crispier fries. The Volare is good, but very rich, I don't think I could eat the whole thing and the bread was really greasy/buttery. It was good. If food had been hot, maybe even great. read more

I must say that I've been to Volare twice and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE their pizza. That's pretty much it. The restaurant has a nice rooftop with some cramped seating. The staff is friendly and their service is typically prompt. If you want to watch the game without the hassle of sitting in the sun you can have a seat inside one of the multi-level areas inside as well. I think Volare might suffer from the reputation of its sister restaurant, Benvenuti's. Additionally, it's in an enormous (and fantastic) building on Campus Corner. It's a building that looks out of place, because it is. Someone had to be first to renovate the old Campus Corner buildings, I expect we will see more of this near OU. But, Volare's spot looks fantastic, even if a few people weren't too happy with its height. I think knowing its relation to Benvenuti's and how fantastic the building looks created some unrealistic expectations for me as I ate here for the first time. To start, Volare is open for lunch, which is fantastic. Already its different from Benvenuti's in that regard. When I walked in, I was very impressed. I never left the first level (or even the entrance as we sat very close to the door), but there is a sleek modern feel to the space. The pizza oven (straight from Italy) is prominently placed, as is a nice bar. We sat in a half booth/half table set up that was very comfortable. We were approached immediately by a server and given the drink list. There aren't a ton of wines, only a few by the glass and bottle. Maybe a dozen, give or take. The beer list is not large but it's solid. Plenty of mixed drink options. For the meal, I opted for a couple of wines by the glass. The pours were reasonable, even on the generous side. Importantly, nothing on the list is expensive. This is a drink list for a campus, not a fine dining establishment, and they did a nice job of giving you options but keeping the prices low. To start, we split the quarter pound pair, which is 2 meatball sliders with provolone, arugula, parmesan, and marinara. For $8 it's a reasonably priced appetizer. The bread is soft but didn't break apart while eating. The meatballs are fantastic. Very flavorful and moist. I could have used a little color on the outside, but that's a minor complaint, if it's even a complaint at all. The sauce is flavorful, and there's just enough cheese. These things were very good, absolute re-order. For my salad, I had the coke artist, which is comprised of arugula, roasted artichokes, onion, parmesan, mozzarella, and a lemon-pepper vinaigrette. For $6 it's a good starter salad. The dressing wasn't too citrusy and was well seasoned. I loved the house-made mozzarella, I want to order more dishes with this stuff. The artichokes were good, but not seasoned, just soft from the oven. They needed a bit more. But, the salad worked well together and I would get it again. While some of the sandwiches looked good (particularly the big sausage and Volare), I had to go with pizza on my first visit. I went with the Calabrian King, which has more of the house-made mozzarella, shredded mozzarella, Italian sausage (again made in house), fresh garlic, basil, and calabrian chiles. The menu indicates the pizza is hot, and while it's on the hotter side for sure I wouldn't go so far as to call it spicy. The ingredients are well distributed throughout the pie. I could have used some more chiles, they were flavorful and added great heat. The sausage and cheese were excellent, they clearly know what they are doing. I was disappointed by the lack of a blister on the crust. I was expecting more of that nearly burnt but not flavor that you get with a nicely blistered napoletana pizza. It's a nice size for only $11, easily shareable. Volare is a great addition to campus corner. It's got lunch, dinner, and late night handled. The prices are reasonable, and the food was good except for some minor issues. I imagine I'll be back plenty of times, and will likely update my review at some point to 5 stars. read more

Not sure if they are under new management but our drinks were served in plastic cups while adult beverages were served in glass around us. No sweet-n-low, asked for salt and pepper and received 2 packets of salt and pepper, did I mention we had caprese salad that had less tomatoes than usual. Would you like parmasean and red pepper, this also in packets; only 2 mind you.... Glasses were not kept full. The reason we go there is for the Woodfire Pizza but that was sadly served Luke warm. If this was fast food maybe this would be acceptable. We had better service when the pandemic started last year in 2020. We also noticed they were randomly checking temperatures. Ok, let's just talk about this building first. Volare is a tall beautiful brick building with three floors. Each floor has something different to offer. The first floor has a restaurant area with a bar. This is also where all the action is. It has a wood burning brick oven surrounded by bar top seating. The second floor has more tables and a lounge area with a huge tv. The top floor has a full bar with an amazing view of campus corner and Gaylord Memorial Stadium. Onto the food! The menu is mostly pizza (which is a given), but the variety is astonishing. They have one pasta dish, which is a gluten free lasagna. Which, I was unaware of until it was completely gone. Good sign for everyone. Please start off which the crack fries, you won't be disappointed. Volare just opened recently and the staff did an amazing job. This was my 2nd time at Volare, the first time didn't blow me away but it also didn't turn me off. Our waitress was very friendly but service was fairly slow, most likely due to it being packed and probably not enough staff. My biggest issue was my food. Upon arriving, one of the people I was with was questioning how big the pizzas were. We were seated next door the oven so it was very easy to point out the pepperoni pizza that was sitting under a heat lamp. My friend and I kept watching as this pizza sat unused for far too long, we even made jokes that it better not be the one that was served to me. No joke, 20 minutes after ordering we watched as the same pizza we had been eyeing for 30 minutes was now sitting infront of me. The pizza was still decent but knowing that it had been sitting under the heat lamp longer than i had been in the restaurant was not a great feeling. I usually get to Volare a few times a year for drinks on the rooftop or for dinner. The pizza toppings are creative and tasty but the star of the show is the crust, which is full of chewy air-bubbly partially-charred goodness. This past visit (18 March 2023) was typical: great pizza but terrible service. The waitress was friendly but inattentive, and took forever to bring the bill. I have been coming to this restaurant for two years now. The food is pretty good, but the service is consistently terrible. Not only are the servers slow, they are rude. If you go to eat here, expect to be there for a couple hours and to get the wrong food and drinks. The service is not at all worth the food. The only reason to go here is the convenient location on campus corner. If you are with older adults, you may have a better experience. One of the nicer atmosphere restaurants in Norman, yet not as pricey as the Ranch or Benvenutis. Pizzas are quick fire wood oven pizzas. Their dough mix is very tasty. They have an app of fried zucchini that is really good. They often have very good local brews on their rotator draft. Had an event at Volare on May 21st and it turned out great. The food was excellent and staff very friendly and attentive. Special thanks to Rachel Wheeler who was the bartender. This is one of the few places in Oklahoma that serves up a hot, fresh, AUTHENTIC Margherita pie. You'd think that this simplest of Neapolitan specialties would be relatively easy to find in its super simple, incredibly tasty form. AND YOU'D BE WRONG. (What happens is that way too many folks here in the United States just assume that there must be something missing in a true Margherita, so they simply INSIST upon adding to it. A big mistake? We arrived at Volare on 11/8/19 for dinner, which was busy, but were promptly told it would be a two minute wait while they cleared a table. We watched them clean the table and bring up a chair to accommodate our party. Then while we waited the manager off duty walked over to the table and sat down. The host informed him that there was a party waiting, and he told the host that he would not be moving and instead to tell us it would now be a 20 minute wait. It's really unfortunate that a restaurant manager is more interested in putting his feet up (which he literally did) instead of seating patrons that otherwise really enjoy eating at the establishment. The donuts appear to be overflowing with Nutella, but in reality have little to no Nutella at all. I bit into a section with all the Nutella and you can't even taste it there is so little.
