Margarita and Prosciutto pizza. Thin crust!
Leyla V.

This is a decent pizza place in North York. I went with a couple of friends and was satisfied with the food and the price. The ambience was also really nice, definitely a great sport for a date or meeting up with friends :) Pictured: Margarita pizza and Prosciutto pizza

Margherita pizza

Its kinda hard to get proper neo politan pizza as it is so its really nice to have a restaurant around here that serves that. Food wise its actually really good espically the pizza. Highly recommend margarita pizza , it was exceptional. Environment aroundhere is very nice. Clean decorated . And also service was very nice. Highly recommend!

We really enjoyed our dinner here. Everyone in the restaurant was Italian and not just of decent but literally moved here from Italy! So they were super familiar with their flavours. I personally preferred the pastas to the pizzas, no matter how hard you try it's super hard to get a pizza as good as it is in Italy, unless you import EVERY ingredient! And that gets expensive! The penne a la Vodka was super flavourful! And we also had the Amatriciana and the bucatini which were also spectacular flavours. For me the prices were super reasonable too. I would totally come back here. Give it a try, if you love pasta you won't be disappointed here.

This place is convenient, quick with decent prices. I've had their penne a la vodka and pumpkin ravioli. Both great flavours. Sauce is thick, many herbs and aromas. Could be spicy for me. They have chilies in oil but it's just greasy and no heat. Kinda looks weird. I took away two stars because of the management. He was hosting two guests. One server only during lunch. All staff members were focusing on their table and their food. I waited and finally got my food. The one server was running around like a chicken with no head. The manager or owner kept asking her for espresso, drinks, dessert, etc. He couldn't see how busy they were and didn't do anything to help out the staff. I was angry. I was hungry I ate and left. I like their food but can't stand this behaviour. Wouldn't go to this location again.

Vivo!!!

Flavourful spicy pizza. Definitely worth trying. Ask for the Vivo! San Marzano tomato sauce, fiore de latte cheese, spicy soppresata, roasted red peppers and kalamata olives. It kind of reminds me of a coal oven pizza in Little Italy, New York City. Bravo!!!

Vivo Pizza

I enjoyed my pizza. It was tasty and the perfect size. I ordered the vivo pizza which is one of the more popular choices. I don't recall the food taking long to come, however the service was slow ths restaurant was not that busy but the waitress took for ever to come over and take our order ... did not come by to check up on us to see if the food was okay and took forever to clear the dishes after we were finished eating.

Calamari
Joy H.

Decent place to grab a bite with a swanky interior. Be prepared to get your wallet fully exploited if you aren't aware of where your money is being spent. Our waitress was very peppy and quite eager to give us recommendations and put add-ons to our order. Just so you are aware, the water is an additional cost--they bring you bottled water by default and pour it immediately, so it's too late to take back. I can't even guarantee that tap water won't cost you anything, since I've never gotten the option. Also, if your waiter offers you a refill on your soft drink, it's equivalent to ordering a second soft drink, not simply a free refill! In terms of food, we got the calamari, fettuccine Alfredo (with chicken), gnocchi, seafood platter (daily special), salmon pasta (daily special), and prosciutto pizza. The calamari was lightly battered and fresh tasting. It was not particularly crunchy, but it wasn't oily, which is nice. The fettuccine Alfredo was good, but the flavour was strangely similar to Michelina's Frozen Dinners--no shade to Vivo, it still tasted good. Perhaps it's simply the nature of Alfredo pasta that most Alfredos will taste the same. The gnocchi was nice but sort of bland overall. The daily specials are pretty much where it's at. The seafood platter has perfectly grilled squid and very lovely, tender salmon. The salmon pasta has really great flavour. The salmon gives it a nice touch, but I may be biased since I love anything salmon. The prosciutto pizza is quite nice as well. It's a nice thin pizza with lovely simple toppings that make a very fresh flavour. Overall, the food can be quite hit or miss. I would recommend whatever the daily special happens to be, since they seem to be a level better than the other menu items. The pizzas are also quite nice as well. However, the price points are, in my opinion, a bit overpriced for very standard food. It seems very much like they slapped an "Italian" label on things and claims it commands a higher price point because of that. Be aware of the added costs they don't tell you about and slowly stick onto your bill. I don't appreciate this type of business practice, so I will personally not be coming back.

The delicious Penne alla Vodka from Vivo!
Mark G.

On Friday, my mom and I went here. We've kept our eye on this place for while, but we finally decided to come here because we had no idea where else to go. When we arrived, we were greeted by two sweet ladies, and let us sit anywhere. We sat in the booth area. The decor in the restaurant is very modern, and looked very nice and presentable. We sat down and ordered our food. I ordered the Penne alla Vodka. The food took around 10-15 minutes to come, so it was relatively fast for a dine in restaurant. When the food came, it was all plated nicely. It tasted so good. I loved it so much. My mom was also very pleased with her meal. We had a conversation with our waitress, and she was Italian herself, and pronounced everything on the menu and on the specials board perfectly. Also, you can here the chefs in the kitchen talking in Italian, which proves that the restaurant has authentic Italian cuisine. I would 100% recommend this place. Every aspect of this restaurant is amazing and I have absolutely no complaints.

We arrived around 3:30 pm when it was fairly occupied; they feature 'Happy Sour Hour' from 4 to 7 pm, during which all of their sour beers are reduced in price to $7.00. We ordered and shared two beers, the first a lager, the second a sour beer in order to take advantage of the discounted price. The venue is long and narrow, with two floors and a distinctive looking back patio. Our service was fairly prompt and they are located in a quite convenient location, literally across the street from the subway and the historic, flagship LCBO location. So I can recommend a visit if you're in the area and desire a drink and/or snack.

Don't skip dessert: their $20 dessert platter comes with four different desserts you can pick and choose from their menu, which is perfect for sharing and trying a bit of everything. Cheese scone, Danish, pistachio bun, and lemon merengue all were yum! Overall, it was a satisfying brunch and I'd happily come back when I'm craving a proper sit-down meal.

Food 5/5 Service 5/5…read moreAmbiance 5/5 Food: I ordered the Tagliatette alla bolognese & hubby had a charcuterie board. For dessert we had the nutella pizza. I also ordered some take out: a funghi pizza, bruschetta & papardelle al boscaiola. Everything was so delicious! Sip is one of our favourite restaurants because the food is always good & it's not overpriced. The Tagliatelle was perfectly cooked and the bolognese sauce so yummy. Hubby enjoyed the charcuterie board. And the nutella pizza is a little messy but still delicious. At home I shared the bruschetta with hubby. I don't know how they get the pizza crust so thin. However they make their pizza I still think it's the best pizza I've ever had in Toronto. Service: We had a lovely lady serviing us. She has always been there when we have come in the past. She is so efficient & graceful too. The dishes came out quickly and we were soon eating. We came on Valentine's Day for lunch & it wasn't busy. Ambiance: The restaurant was decorated for Valentine's Day with red balloons. It was pretty but if you're going to the bathroom (which is downstairs) I had to duck so the ribbons didn't get in my hair. The restaurant has a cozy & comfortable vibe. But at the same time it's classy. The lower level can be used as a private room. I've seen families holding celebrations down there. The washrooms are clean & well maintained. I would definitely come back here again for a meal. It's too bad it's on a side street. It would probably get more attention. I think the food at Sip is better than Grazie actually, which is also nearby.

We shared the cowboy roll. Cowboy roll is one of my fave rolls at this restaurant. It was delicious as usual & the red dragon was great as well. I tried a piece of hubby's fish katsu & it was also wonderful. The batter was light & it didn't seem oily at all (one of my pet peeves for deep fried food). I even tried a piece of the chicken karage but I didn't enjoy it. Hubby said it was really good though. Service: We had the same waitress we've had to many times before. I can't remember her name. But she's always really nice & gets our orders in quickly. So the food comes with a good pace as well. The quality is always great in my opinion. Ambiance: The place needs a little of a spruce up on the lower level. The ladies washroom is looking a little worn out. Everything is clean though. The look of the restaurant is dark woods & dark upholstery. All of the tables are booths which I like. It makes a nice cozy atmosphere. Golden Pigeon occupies the space where Ben Wicks used to be, which is below street level with stairs in the front. Inside it is fairly dark with various games situated on the left/south side of the venue, and when I walked around inside I noticed a shelf with board games at the wall on the north side. I wasn't planning on staying late so I only ordered one beer (Devil's Pale Ale from Great Lakes Brewery) but everyone else with me ordered food and beer including desserts; the food all looked and smelled quite nice to me and the consensus from my friends was that their choices were quite enjoyable. My beer was quite good too and their draft menu features a wide variety of quality beers on offer. The prices for both food and beer are pretty standard for the type of venue this is. Our service was fairly prompt and quite friendly; there were 2 skee ball games not too far from where we sat, one or both of which were frequently played by others while we were there. They were loud enough to make conversation a little more difficult so I took a star off of my rating for that. Being a German Beer Hall styled venue, I do understand that the overall 'ambiance' conveyed will be loud and somewhat boisterous. By the time I left around 9:30 pm it was somewhat more crowded inside while the patio had largely cleared. I quite enjoyed my first visit to Golden Pigeon and I hope to revisit before too long to have a different beer and maybe some food.
