I had a get together with my friends here and it was quite busy at around 5pm on a weekday. I got the penne vodka and thought it was good, nothing extraordinary to point out. The pasta was al dente but more on the harder side. Sauce was creamy and thick. It was a simple dish and I enjoyed it. My other friends ordered pizza and said it was okay. I love this place! The ambience is so beautiful and the food is amazing. This was the first time my family and I tried Vito Pizza and Pasta and we loved it. The customer service was spectacular and my favorite dish was the Penne Vodka. I could eat that everyday! It was a very busy place for lunch, and they had lots of patio seating as well. I have been to Vivo at least half a dozen times and I thought I had written a review already but I guess I didn't. This location can get quite busy, which is no surprise because the food is really good. I've tried a few different salads, pastas and pizzas, as well as various appetizers. Their salumi board is great for sharing, as is the arancini. I've been with both small and large groups and we always end up with a bunch of different items to share, which is the best way to eat Italian food, as far as I'm concerned! The spaghetti carbonara is a favourite of mine, (even though it has onions-weird) but the portion is not always consistent. My favourite pizzas are the Prosciutto pizza and the Patata pizza. They're both quite different, but sooo good! The calamari is one of the best I've had; always so tender and crispy. Something to note: you can choose different options for your pasta, which is great when you're sharing. For example, the fettuccine alfredo can be swapped for penne or rigatoni, which is much easier to serve within a group. I just wish there was a carb-free option. Haha read more

We really enjoyed our dinner here. Everyone in the restaurant was Italian and not just of decent but literally moved here from Italy! So they were super familiar with their flavours. I personally preferred the pastas to the pizzas, no matter how hard you try it's super hard to get a pizza as good as it is in Italy, unless you import EVERY ingredient! And that gets expensive! The penne a la Vodka was super flavourful! And we also had the Amatriciana and the bucatini which were also spectacular flavours. For me the prices were super reasonable too. This place is convenient, quick with decent prices. I've had their penne a la vodka and pumpkin ravioli. Both great flavours. Sauce is thick, many herbs and aromas. Could be spicy for me. They have chilies in oil but it's just greasy and no heat. Kinda looks weird. I took away two stars because of the management. He was hosting two guests. One server only during lunch. All staff members were focusing on their table and their food. I waited and finally got my food. The one server was running around like a chicken with no head. The manager or owner kept asking her for espresso, drinks, dessert, etc. He couldn't see how busy they were and didn't do anything to help out the staff. I was angry. I was hungry I ate and left. Decent place to grab a bite with a swanky interior. Be prepared to get your wallet fully exploited if you aren't aware of where your money is being spent. Our waitress was very peppy and quite eager to give us recommendations and put add-ons to our order. Just so you are aware, the water is an additional cost--they bring you bottled water by default and pour it immediately, so it's too late to take back. I can't even guarantee that tap water won't cost you anything, since I've never gotten the option. Also, if your waiter offers you a refill on your soft drink, it's equivalent to ordering a second soft drink, not simply a free refill! In terms of food, we got the calamari, fettuccine Alfredo (with chicken), gnocchi, seafood platter (daily special), salmon pasta (daily special), and prosciutto pizza. The calamari was lightly battered and fresh tasting. It was not particularly crunchy, but it wasn't oily, which is nice. The fettuccine Alfredo was good, but the flavour was strangely similar to Michelina's Frozen Dinners--no shade to Vivo, it still tasted good. Perhaps it's simply the nature of Alfredo pasta that most Alfredos will taste the same. The gnocchi was nice but sort of bland overall. The daily specials are pretty much where it's at. The seafood platter has perfectly grilled squid and very lovely, tender salmon. The salmon pasta has really great flavour. The salmon gives it a nice touch, but I may be biased since I love anything salmon. The prosciutto pizza is quite nice as well. It's a nice thin pizza with lovely simple toppings that make a very fresh flavour. Overall, the food can be quite hit or miss. I would recommend whatever the daily special happens to be, since they seem to be a level better than the other menu items. The pizzas are also quite nice as well. However, the price points are, in my opinion, a bit overpriced for very standard food. It seems very much like they slapped an "Italian" label on things and claims it commands a higher price point because of that. Be aware of the added costs they don't tell you about and slowly stick onto your bill. I don't appreciate this type of business practice, so I will personally not be coming back. read more

On Friday, my mom and I went here. We've kept our eye on this place for while, but we finally decided to come here because we had no idea where else to go. When we arrived, we were greeted by two sweet ladies, and let us sit anywhere. We sat in the booth area. The decor in the restaurant is very modern, and looked very nice and presentable. We sat down and ordered our food. I ordered the Penne alla Vodka. The food took around 10-15 minutes to come, so it was relatively fast for a dine in restaurant. When the food came, it was all plated nicely. It tasted so good. I loved it so much. My mom was also very pleased with her meal. We had a conversation with our waitress, and she was Italian herself, and pronounced everything on the menu and on the specials board perfectly. Also, you can here the chefs in the kitchen talking in Italian, which proves that the restaurant has authentic Italian cuisine. I would 100% recommend this place. Thought I'd give this place a try. It's not BAD, but I also wasn't blown away. I picked up a take out order consisting of the patata pizza & arancini piccoli. The pizza was pretty good, I enjoyed it. It had nice thin slices of potatoes and pancetta on it. The arancini which is essentially fried rice balls stuffed with a cheesy risotto, wasn't great. I've had much better at proper Italian places. This had no flavour it just tasted like a ball of oil. Next time I'd maybe try a pasta or just stick with the pizza. read more

I know this restaurant is all around great, but how did they handle a 40 person reservation?- Better than ever that's how... Authentic Italian dishes we have not seen anyone make all the food was sooo excellent and pizzas were also delicious and baked right on perfection. (serious chefs) Bartender: knew to make all the drinks (generously.) Manager: very professional and unlimited patience. Our two servers: If they didn't have their Vivo shirts on they would have been part of the family everyone loved them. We were served a warm bottle of beer then we said to server that we wished to have a cold one. She gave us another a bottle of beer. We found out that is was also warm. We drank the beer and intended to pay. We went to the server to pay for our meal and drink. We reminded the server that the beer had been warm. She apologized and decided to remove the beer from the bill. We love vivo and we found the food is excellent and service also excellent. However, we came today and we asked for beer. Victoria declined our beer order. She said that we wouldn't pay for the beer last time. We were shocked. Victoria basically accused of stealing beer. We were outraged at this accusation. Found this little gem with a co-worker last autumn and it has become our weekly go-to for a great lunch. The pizza is terrific and the daily specials never disappoint. Our regular server Livia is awesome with wonderful suggestions and a welcoming personality. My most recent lunch consisted of perfectly grilled calamari, a delicate and delicious salmon fillet accompanied by a delicious salad. Terrific. The staff here are all super super nice and give great recommendations, and the food comes out pretty quickly, however, the food does leave a little to be desired. I shared the primavera pizza to start, which was ok - the sauce was a little too sweet and the veggies were still pretty crunchy, but it was alright. I also had the orecchiette con rapini, which again, was ok, but lacked flavour but was very salty, and SO oily. There was more than a puddle of oil at the bottom, like so much that I drained a ton of it out onto an empty dish before eating. My dining partner had rigatoni bolognese and said it was ok too. An ok place if you are looking for a quick meal and friendly service, but probably not my first choice for Italian food in the area. read more

VIVo DOES NOT PAY ITS SUPPLIERS. In good faith we supplied and installed plantings on the dining patio of this new client in early spring 2019 having just opened their North Waterloo location. Apparently the management, both on-site and at the head head office in Toronto does not acknowledge the concept of indebtedness. Any attempts to obtain payment turned into an intentionally delaying shell game of misdirection. In spring 2019, then summer, then fall and yet again in early winter 2019, I visited the empty restaurant several times and talked to the middle manager of the week in an effort to get payment. At no time did we receive any indication, verbally and/or in writing that there were any deficiencies in the work. When we were surprisingly able to reach someone by phone, we were informed that accounts payable are handled by different people or a different company. When asked who or where requests for payment were to be directed, we were either given a different person's name, company name, and/or address which was not valid or did not in fact exist. Over a year after the fact, in summer 2020 we were informed that billing was to have been to a numbered company, 2658688 Ontario Ltd., a corporate entity we had never heard of and did not explicitly sell to. So we re-did the billing and sent it by registered mail, with the same avoidance tactics being the result into October 2020. Phone calls are not answered, email addresses either do not work or go unacknowledged. VIvo seems contemptuous of their creditors for, they do not seem concerned that the matter will be turned over to small claims or 3rd party collection agency. it's embarrassing that a chain with 8 locations can't pay a measly 16month old discounted bill for $1000.00. Best advice as burned contractor /supplier - Be wary of who you're dealing with, get your payment from this unscrupulous company up front and in full, and/or apply your resources instead to clients that respect your hard work. read more

Knowing how other locations have been. This location could not support PIZZA for a party of 20+ which was booked well in advance. Totally disappointed and alot of cancelled dinners and executives leaving the restaurant with no meal. People who received their meal waited for over 20minutes. Disappointing and now possible will not see a mfg site over thousands of people visit this or other Vivo site. We all felt bad for the server bc she wanted to do more but the kitchen was not organized at all. They said 4 pizzas should come after so many minutes and just did not happen. read more

We tried Vivo the other night and had high hopes. The food was pretty good but a tad pricey for pasta ($15 for Penne alla Vodka). We didn't notice the specials board on the way in so it would be helpful if the servers let you know about them at your table. One person ordered the special pasta of the day not realizing it was $23 (!). It was seriously pasta and sauce for $23. The staff seemed nice and the place is clean but the lights are way too BRIGHT. They should consider dimmers! Even just a little dimmer as it was actually so bright it was annoying. The food came out really fast...would be nice to have a little bread basket before dinner...it felt really rushed. On the flipside, after we finished eating, we sat around for quite a long time waiting on the bill. Overall, not bad but we probably won't be back. read more

Good food but don't count on getting a table. I have been to this locations several times. Once for lunch and another for dinner. We ordered pizza and pasta both times and the food was served in a timely manner and tasty. That being said, we returned 3 more times only to be turned away because there were no tables and told it would be over an hour for a table each time. When we called to make a reservation we were told they only take reservations for 8 or more. We tried to get a table this evening but the wait was more than 1 hr because they took a reservation of 25. Probably not going back as its not worth waiting an hour or more for average Italian food you can find anywhere. read more

Yesterday, 31 Dec 2018, around 1.38 pm, my wife called the Vivo Pizza & Pasta @ billy bishop way. She ordered by phone and wanted to take the Pasta Carbonara, she ordered 2. At 1.57, I came to the restaurant and paid with Debit Card for the amount of $33.90. At 2.10 the cashier (lady) told me that 5 minutes more, why raising her 5 fingers. At 2.15, the same lady cashier raised me 2 fingers, meaning 2 minutes. At the same time, I asked the lady to cancel, she said that she couldnot. There was a man (might be the manager or owner), he executed the the refund process and failed, and he gave me with cash $34. In the kitchen, the chef (I think very junior), he was guided by the other 3 ladies how to make a carbonara, but he couldn't until I cancelled. This is not the first time to go to this resto, but this is the first time for me to cancel because the waiting time was so long. FYI. The resto was not busy only 1 table with 2 men having light lunch. In the kitchen there were 5 persons. So.....you can decide, who can't manage the resto n handle the customer call? read more

So disappointed with this restaurant tonight. This is a new neighbourhood restaurant that I have enjoyed on many previous occasions. Tonight I brought a new friend to check it out (my fourth friend that I have introduced this new restaurant to). We arrived for an early dinner shortly after 6 pm. When we entered the restaurant the music was blaring. We asked to be seated at a table (there were only 2 other guests) at a table away from the speakers as we have not seen each other in quite some time and wanted to enjoy some great food and conversation. The restaurant is small and we quickly realized there was no table we could sit at away from the blaring music. We still decided to sit at a table because I have enjoyed the food here on so many other occasions. We we sat down we asked the waitress if they could lower the music. She said she would ask. A few minutes later the music was still blaring. She came back with our menus and we asked again if the music could be lowered explaining that my friend has a hearing loss and we wanted to be able to hear ourselves. For a 2nd time the waitress said she would ask and again nothing happened!!!!!!!!! I cannot believe it!!!!! I was not treated as a guest tonight. I did not recognize any of the servers from my previous visits to this restaurant and I asked if they had had a Management change. The answer was no. I am not sure I will be going back to this restaurant. I felt so disrespected. I do not recall the blaring music from any other of my visits there. I was so disappointed.
