I'm a resident on the Big Island and had been lightly shopping around for a home solar system. Being new to the solar game and not sure if I was going to sell my home sometime down the road or live in it until the day I die, I knew purchasing or financing an entire system was not for me at this time. Plus, I was concerned about maintenance and potential repairs, should I own a system I would think that those burdens would rest on my shoulders which was also why I was leaning toward not outright owning a system. The rates per kilowatt also varied from company to company which played a role in my final decision. My Helco bill was easily over $250 a month and during the holidays it was breaking $300. My Vivint Solar bill is no more than $90 on a crystal clear, sunny month when my panels are operating at full capacity and drinking in the sunshine. Do I use every last drop of the power my panels produce every month? Nope. On months when our usage is lower than normal the excess power gets stored which is great for months when my power usage is higher than normal like now, during Christmas with our holiday décor and lights on all night. Another great fact about my saved power: it carries over. Unlike my cell phone data which I either use or lose, my excess power carries over. The process was simple and painless. I did not pay one cent until I had received my first Vivint Solar bill. No money down. The slowest part of the process was waiting for Helco to inspect and approve the panels. That was it. And now, should I sell my home, should the panels get struck by lightening, should a hurricane cause damage to the panels, anything really, Vivint dispatches a repair crew and takes care of everything. If my panels are not functioning properly, I do not receive a bill. Simple. And my home is still linked into Helco so they're my back up ensuring that I always have electricity. Like I mentioned earlier, my system is capable of producing no more than $90 of power for the month. How did I decide on that size? My Vivint Solar rep, Jeff, looked at my past year of Helco bills and added 15% more just for cushion. What do I mean when I say my system is capable of producing, you ask? Let me explain. If the weather was perfectly clear and sunny every single minute of every single day for a month then my panels would drink up every drop of ray and produce power that would cost me a total of $90. Here in Hilo, the wettest part of the island, we can count on an overcast sky for at least ten minutes everyday. So my bills have been averaging about $70 a month. It's really simple and I highly recommend Vivint Solar. If you're window shopping, as I was too, I highly recommend these points to consider when making your final decision: - Is it possible that you will ever move? - Never, ever plan on moving, so you've decided to just buy the panels, then are you prepared for potential repairs and maintenance? - How much per kilowatt is the solar company charging? - Do you need to shell out any money for the installation process or for anything at all other than your monthly solar bill? Call the rep I worked with, Jeff, and let him know my Yelp review attracted you. Once you've decided Vivint Solar is for you too then you'll receive a discounted monthly bill for referrals too! read more

Getting involved with this company has been a horrible experience. My electrical panel was never upgraded to a 200amp. And, while my elecrtic bill is a little lower it is still not offset by my panel payment. Furthermore, the buy back programs are not cost effective. Although I still have to pay for the panels Ive turned off the system. read more

Would not advise any1 use Vivint for solar. There have been a lot of issues, first and mainly the representative who was working with completely ghosted me. I haven't heard back from him in a while. He quoted me as having a 100% offset which is not true, I'm now getting solar through a different company and I know there's no way he had 100% offset, I had to add a carport just to get 70%. Even though I already reached out to the loan company and bank I'm still getting updates about my project. Apparently I have to wait for that initial representative to close the whole thing out and he's been completely absent. Huge red flags from the start, I definitely would hate to see what kind of problems I would have in the future. read more

I am two months into producing solar power. I am extremely upset. My wife and I had about 4-5 meetings with a Vivint solar sales rep in our home. The rep was awesome and always worked well with us. he told us every detail about what would happen, how it would happen, what net metering was and how it worked. We asked more questions than I can count. Everytime he gave us answers, I would do my own research and confirm them. everything seemed to check out. I knew how solar panels and net metering worked inside and out. Now, my issue that I have now is that now that I am producing I have gotten my Entergy bill. as I looked into some discrepancie, I found that my energy company (Entergy Texas) does NOT do net metering like the Vivint sales rep said they did on MANY occasions. For my solar production to actually save me money, I have to be at home using power as I am producing. Both my wife and I have jobs and the Vivint sales rep told us that would not be a problem and that what we produce during the day will factor into our nighttime usage. This is NOT happening. most of what we produce is being sold to Entergy at $0.04 a KWH and then I end up purchasing those same KWH from Entergy At $0.10 KWH at night. I have contacted Vivint about this and they WONT take responsibility for what their sales team is saying. All they are telling me to do is use another energy company when i don't have another choice around me. I am EXTREMELY upset about this and need this reconciled. read more

If you cancel your solar install, when you realize it will cost more for solar than through your energy provider, vivint hits you with a $3000 cancelation. You are reading that number correctly. Then they harass you until you pay it in full. If I could give zero stars I would. read more

Very sketchy people/company. They are a solar company who put solar on your property then let you get cheap or free electricity then any excess energy they sell for a premium without you seeing a dime of it. The worst part is that they try to seem like LA county officials when they come to your door like they were sent out from the local government. It's a scam. They make you finance for something they claim is free. read more

By far the worst business I have ever worked with in my entire life. Save yourselves the headache and DO NOT work with Vivint/Sunrun. I removed my panels as I was rebuilding my home. 6 months later, construction complete and I request for them to re-install the panels. I pay the re-design fee. fast forward 6 more months... NO PROGRESS. I constantly keep calling them asking for an update and their crap out-sourced customer service constantly keeps telling me, "we will look into it and get back to you". Guess what? Not a single call back, ever. I have attempted to request for a manager and escalate the issue, but they say, "there is no manager to escalate to". what BS. I've sent e-mails to the "case manager" assigned, but get no responses back. . I call and leave voicemails, no call back. To make things worse, they actually send me a $232 bill for energy produced. I HAVE NO PANELS TO PRODUCE ENERGY. I call to question the bill and they say, "we'll have the case manager contact you". Again, no call back. I am stuck. Now looking into legal options to things going. read more

signed contract April 2024. Still waiting. Had to wait two weeks and two days for Ambia to send someone out to check the system. The reason that system did not get tested day of install was due to fact the only sent one person to do install. which took 13 hours. Then had to wait for an Engineering Company to come out and check install. he then sent info. to AEP. After they receivedthe info. they sent me an e-mail that it wouldtake at least 10 business days to check the I would be notified. Here's an update. We are finally finished with this company. In the sales pitch, the guy told us that if we didn't want the panels anymore then we could pay the $500 penalty fee and cancel our contract. I called them to cancel after all this drama. Their management told me the only way to get the panels off was to either transfer them to the new homeowners (i was selling my house), or to buy them. I spent the next month arguing but nothing worked. My realtor told me that we should just buy them at market value, with military discount, and sell them to the new owners. We received the quote and was happy until the withdrawl happened. Vivint charged me another $1000 on top of the price because they forgot to include hawaii regulation state taxes. Yay, more money from me. Nothing i could do but just finish the transaction. Once purchased, the new owners wanted to make sure the panels are still under warranty. Vivint said they have no other obligations to me, and that I have to work through the manufacture company in China... They had a rep in San Jose, so it was easier to deal with them. Their customer service was awesome. He explained the warranty process and it helped streamlined our house deal. Nightmare over... read more

A guy from this company just came to my door at 7pm. Rang the doorbell and my husband wakes up at 1:30am and is sleeping.. the dog was barking and when I told him I was not interested, not angrily or anything like that, he said "in what"? I said anything you have to say he then said to me "I don't know what's wrong with you people in this area but your all very rude" I said you're the rude one when you ring a doorbell with a no soliciting sign and wake people up! 89130 area if the company is interested in knowing what type of people you send to knock on doors in the evenings. read more

I'm in Maryland. A door-to-door salesmen ignore no soliciting signs - then when you answer the door argue that they aren't "soliciting" and try to read the definition of soliciting from their mobile phone. They give themselves the B.S. title of "lead setter". I said, if you're not selling anything then what are you doing here? Their response is "I'm just trying to save you money, I don't get paid anything for this". Yeah right, unless I sign up of course. I don't care what the internet definition of no soliciting is, this is part of a sales process and this is an unwanted disruption at the least. I only even answered since he knocked instead of ringing the doorbell and my child ran to the door. Since I was already at the door, I asked so what info do you have, and went back and forth for a while and the door-to-door salesperson, who said that they are NOT selling panels, but that the company makes money from the energy created off of the panels. I said, okay, you can drop off any info you want as long as it doesn't cost me anything. Two days later, the real sales rep from Vivant arrived as I had agreed to, and looked at my current bill with me and showed me what it would cost to PURCHASE solar panels, which at any monthly rate is more than I pay for electric. I immediately showed him out the door and said sorry, but I'm not looking to buy anything and the door-to-door guy lied and wasted your time! read more

Here is our horrible experience with Vivint hopefully you can learn from it. We are trying every channel to fight it. We heard how bad they were from friends and now we finally experienced ourselves. Please think thru it before proceeding with them. (Try to be positive...Hopefully they are better now with sunrun.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We purchased a house on Jan 2018. A Vivint solar system was already there on the property. Vivint suggested to transfer the agreement to us at that time. However we realized that there was an issue of the net meter placement. Net meter allows Hawaii Electric (HECO) to keep track and credit the excess energy generated by the solar system. There were two houses (front and back) on the properties with two separate electric meters. The solar system is connected to the front house with a regular meter (no net metering) and yet the net meter was placed for the back house. That means the system had been installed incorrectly since the beginning and the previous owner had never gotten any excess credit the solar system generated. That's why we didn't want to take over the agrrement. Vivint has been contacting us on the transfer since 2018 but we never wanted to take over the solar system until the issue was fixed. The only solution we can accept is for HECO to swap the meters between the two houses. The front house is the main unit and 500 sq ft bigger than the back house. The solar system energy production was tailored for the front house. In Aug 2020, Vivint crew came and connected the solar system system to the net meter for back house then claimed that they resolved the issue. We told them that was just a mistake on top of the existing mistake. Now it became two steps to correct the issue, swapping the meters and connecting the system back to the front house. Vivint then proposed to us that we needed to transfer the agreement under our name before they could ask HECO to swap meters and we wouldn't be responsible for any billing until all issues were fixed. We agreed and signed the agreement. In Sep 2020, they requested our trust and deed for HECO to swap the meters and we provided. They started to bill us in Oct then Nov 2020. They were able to credit us back for both months. In the meantime, they tried to suggest us to reduce the number of panels and made the system for the back house and we declined. Again we wanted the full system and we wanted it for the front house. Dec 2020 bill (outstanding balance of $111.49) came this month. We contacted them and expected that they would credit us and continue to resolve the issue. However they came back to us saying that they were not able to get HECO to swap the meters and because we signed the agreement, we would be responsible for the outstanding bill of $111.49. If we refused to pay, they would send it to 3rd party collections. We requested to cancel the agreement because they didn't do what we agreed on and they declined. What a company! read more

So far I'm waiting and waiting. The process is not quick but I've been sitting here for over 6 months because no one from the Vivint team ever contacts you. I called this week only to find out they were sitting on my account waiting for a piece of paper I told them didn't exist. A manager said he'd send me his contact information. He never did. I was supposed to be contacted by the local HI representative. That never happened. If I had to do it all over again, I'd pick a different company. Their customer service is non-existent. Who knows if I'll even get solar in 2020. They are so slow it may not happen until 2021 read more

This is from initial experience from the King of Prussia, PA for the Folcroft, PA branch. My representative, Josh, was friendly and seemed down to earth but he didn't explained the process fully. When you are in a PPA agreement, you will pay for the energy it produces. I didn't realize this till after reading everyone posting. I wished he explained that part more accurately instead of neglecting it out. He explained the solar energy it produced, I will get credit for it on my bill. BUT he didn't explained that I have to pay for the energy FIRST. Little bit dishonest but acceptable. The overall installation process of the solar panels is still a nightmare!!! I signed agreement in July 2016, PECO approved agreement in February 2017. I believe someone dropped the ball and forgot to followup properly, which i believe is Vivint Solar and my representative. Finally Vivint said okay to install in March 2017 but after 18 postpones and over 25 calls to the call center, representatives, manager and installer; the panels were installed completely in mid-May. My install had many no shows(5 consecutive days) no shows, random cancellations and quite lengthy delays. I advise you be super proactive and HOUND THEM on every step of the process and contact your energy provider also to fully understand process so you can also follow Vivint progress. My representative said that he would provide compensation for all the delays and trouble which he did do but it was not the agreed amount. So that part is a work in progress. ASK THEM FOR COMPENSATION IF THEY GIVE THE RUN AROUND FOR CONSTANT DELAYS AND NO SHOW when installing your solar panels. It did work and i did get a check for $1500 for my troubles but he said he was give $2000. So once again I'm still following up. Next problem; it's June/2017 and my solar panels are still not activated yet cause Vivint forgot to submit updated plans to PECO. Hopefully this get resolve soon. The verdict is still out if I'm saving money or not .......... I hope this post is informative enough for people to make their a proper decision. I personally like the idea of solar energy but wish they explained fully the future payments properly. I understand all the negative reviews from many experiences cause they are all different. But the company is not a scam. It all depends on your area if you are saving money or not. My advise to find a neighbor who have used their service for more than 2 years and asked them how was their experience and saving. 1 star till i see the savings!! 3 star if i'm actually saving money. I will update with a part 2 when they turn on the panels and i see my first 2 bills to calculate what saving or any....... read more

Whole process of getting the solar panels up and running took about a month and we've received our first bill and that's when we had an issue. We were assured savings which is not happening after talking to two of their customer service reps. What's good- No charge for the solar panels Fast installation Their rate is cheaper than HECO(but they will probably still make you pay more per month) What's bad- You pay for how much electricity their solar panels produce no matter how much you actually use. This is bad for my family because we are paying at least 40 more dollars a month than when we were with HECO. With the same amount of people and no change in daily routine. They refuse to take down any amount of solar panels but are happy to add on. Reason why is less panels they have on your roof the less money they make from you. Early termination of contract means you buy their solar panels from them. The only option if you want to get out of the contract is you buy the solar panels from them which for us we were told would be 39 thousand dollars for about 20 panels. Buying new solar panels are cheaper cause the government will help you out. They are as bad as the home security company vivint! Google that and read the horror stories and bs they will tell you for your money. Update 10/19/2013 After communicating back and forth for 3 months the Vivint Solar Account Coordinator who only suggestion to my issue of having SOME of the panels removed to better reflect our energy needs replied "The bottom line: if you keep your usage higher than your production you won't have to worry about over paying Vivint Solar." which means if you are paying more than you electrical needs then use MORE electricity! Great solution right? After about a month or two more of communicating I get a response from their Director of Account Management basically stating that they will not remove ANY panels because of their investment so far and design of their panels. oh they offered a 1 time credit for compensation of my issue.....yea that is awesome. So i'm stuck with them because for 20 years which is my own fault but I hope to at least provide my own personal experience with them and if others have complaints they can file a complaint to Hawaii's Office of Consumer Protection(OCP) and they will accept it. Let me preface this by saying I am not, nor have I ever been a customer of Vivint Solar. I have never tried their services. I have never had their hardware installed on my home. I have, however, had an interaction with a rude, pushy, and insulting door-to-door salesman who was working for Vivint Solar, and the company itself did not respond to my reports of this salesperson (who I will not name). Anyone who ignores the "No Soliciting" sign that is placed right above my doorbell, and still rings the doorbell with the intent of selling me something, is either ignorant, illiterate, or just a plain jerk. Anyone who starts a conversation at your door with "I was just in the neighborhood doing blahblahblah on one of your neighbor's houses" is usually a liar, and not to be trusted. Salesperson was insulting to my wife, and insisted on speaking to her husband (me) because he apparently believed that a woman is incapable of making big decisions. Salesperson, after blathering at and insulting my wife and I, had the audacity to shout "CAN WE JUST BE HUMAN BEINGS FOR A MINUTE" when I went to close the door on his face. If only for how horrid this salesperson was, I will never support this company. Anyone who supports that kind of salesperson deserves to fail. To think, that before my encounter with the Vivint salesperson, I was actually considering solar panels! read more

If I could i would give them no stars! We signed with Vivint in 2013 and 2 years later we had no panels. After multiple complaint calls and no answers a new rep finally came to the house have us redo our contract and throw out the old. A few months later the panels went up and we waited another year for them to get it cleared by heco. Finally once we got hooked up we find out they threw out the new contract which is locked in at $.15 a kilowatt and kept using the old contract at $.25 a kilowatt. They promised us at least 30% decrease on our energy bill but guess what, we're actually paying the same if not more and before they hooked up! During the dispute we told them we won't pay the bill until all this got figured out, they said that's fine. 2 days later they took an unauthorized payment out of my bank account. Called today to complain and the rep asked "us why did we throw out the new contract and use the old?" Really?? Their company messed up all our paperwork and ask us why we did it? So we ask to talk to a supervisor and guess our luck no ones available. Every time we call it's like they don't take any notes on what's going on we call for the same problem at least 5 times now, and every representative sounds completely clueless and we have to explain the same issue over and over again. Our dispute is very simple, just use the new contract not the old one! My recommendation do not waste your time on this company of thieves who are very unprofessional. read more

Avoid doing business with this company. I bought a rental house with a Vivint power purchase agreement. I was quite knowledgeable about PV systems before, as I had one on my house. When I read the Vivint contract that I was required to assume on the change of ownership, I totally understood what I was accepting. I also understood that the system was producing, and I was required to buy, vastly more power than was being consumed by the residents. Caveat: Before buying a house with such a system, make sure that you will be using all the power produced; HECO does issue credits for excess production, but you lose the credits on the anniversary date of your Net Metering Agreement. OK, so what's the problem? 1) they're tricky. They are supposed to bill for the power produced as determined by a panel device that sends production info to the company through the internet. If this internet connection fails, they get no data and they bill you an estimated amount, which is invariably in excess of actual, but the bill doesn't say that it is estimated. They also don't notify you promptly that there is a connection problem. I've seen this go on for months of overbilling; now I'm wise to this and can recognize an estimated bill. Remember, this is a rental, so I'm not there to physically check the connection. 2) Poor customer service. I will give their staff high marks for being polite and usually professional; they seem well trained. Until recently I almost never received a return call from anyone who said they would. The problem here is that the staff is trapped inside a poorly designed system. They are in "silos" of specialty and one silo can't see what the other is doing. So, if you have a production problem that also has a billing aspect, you have to talk to two different people and expect to explain the problem all over. The best companies enable their service people to address virtually all problems. This results in wasted time and frustration for the client. 3) Management doesn't care. I've made suggestions to their customer service silo verbally and in writing and no one has ever responded, even when I requested a response from management. This conveys the impression that they just don't care. 4) Iron-clad, totally one-sided contracts. As others have stated, they will not alter their contracts to lower the cost/kilowatt hour or reduce the number of panels when power usage changes to a lower level. The contract allows them to increase the cost of power annually by 2.9% and they usually do. In Hawaii where rates vary according to the cost of crude oil, we have been paying more than the cost would have been from HECO. The main incentive for getting a system in the first place was that the cost would be less than HECO. read more

Don't get suckered into this type of payment system. I mean "Leasing". If you Lease your solar with vivint, you don't own the solar, they take your tax credits, you pay them for electricity (about the same amount you'd pay HECO), you get suckered into a 20 year contract that you can't get out of with out paying $500 cancel fee (and then some). If you try to sell your house you have to transfer your vivint account to the new owners but if they don't want it you pay the full amount of the panels, and you have to take them off the roof yourself. Beware, and read the fine print. read more

I am appalled and disappointed from the service I've received from Vivint Solar. They blatantly scammed me. They're charging me even when I don't have there panels installed anymore, they refuse to cooperate in a straight forward fashion, they continually brush off my prior concerns, and I can't even get a refund because the representatives I talk to try to get out of things. We first did business with them in 2013 to receive solar panels in my home, then in March 2016 we were doing a major renovation so we needed to have the panels removed and in August 2016 we contacted them to reinstall the panels and although they said they were going to reinstall it they didn't. To this day they're still charging me even though I do not have their solar panels installed and tried numerous times to terminate my contract with them. It's been 3 years and I've been trying to solve this issue but the company and I haven't been able to come to a resolution. I highly discourage anyone from doing business with this company. read more

I received a call from Greg Anderson with Vivint Solar regarding my complaints along with 6 other homeowners in my neighborhood. Working with Greg we were able to get all the issues resolved, my solar was turned on today as well as one of my neighbors. At this time I believe this matter has been resolved by all parties. read more

Vivint employee did a rolling stop at the traffic light and almost hit our car but only missed because my husband swerved away. Employee was not even aware he almost caused an accident as he did not even acknowledge his mistake. Called the number on the vehicle and they did nothing except take our message. We left a number for a manager to call us back and never received a call back. Very unprofessional. read more

Vivint Solar - Vehicle - Solar Installation Near Me - Waipahi, Hawaii

Working with vivint solar has been an actual nightmare from the get go. I could write a novel of all of the inconsistencies and problems we've experienced from them but I'll give you the shortened version. The original salesman that signed us up straight up lied about at least 5 important parts of our deal (that we know about) including lying about the monthly cost, about giving us back up batteries (which are what makes the panels even worth buying), about installation, overall cost, etc etc. working with the customer support is a NIGHTMARE. No one calls you back or responds to concerns at all. The panels were installed incorrectly so they bypass our gutters and pour water right onto the foundation of our house when it rains which has caused extremely expensive problems. We've had them for over a year now and only just now did they start to significantly impact the cost of our electrical bill- just in time for vivint to raise the price on our solar bill making it more expensive than it was just to pay for electricity. I can not believe how unprofessional vivint has been from the start. I would HIGHLY recommend staying far away from vivint. We're now locked into a contract with these ass hats for the next like 30 years or something. I'm outraged. read more

Update from my last review. So they changed my removal date from 14 July to 16 July. I called back to confirm and they pushed my time from 8 to 11. What else can go wrong? We see if they show up at all. read more
