Spoke with Chaleigh Reed regarding micro-inverter warranty. When Solar Help Hawaii replaced micro inverters in 2016 and apparently inputted the wrong address. ( two houses on one lot ) ( 440-442 ) Therefore Enphase would not honor the warranty. They said the micro-inverters had been moved ! Ms. Reed was extremely rude and unprofessional. Rather than trying to help, she ( relied ) on the fact that the same DBA was dissolved in 2017 following the death of her brother. Poor customer service................. Most recently my PV solar system had an alert that 1 of 2 inverters went down. I previously tried another contractor about 1.5yrs ago with the same problem and the inverter was replaced. However, the other contractor had to send their tech out to troubleshoot before determining the problem, then once determined or confirmed it was an inverter issue, it took another 3 weeks to have it shipped and schedule a tech to come back in install. This process took about a month. You can imagine what my HECO bill was for being out of solar operation!! Unfortunately, the same inverter went again and this previous contractor couldn't send a tech out for 2wks. Knowing it would take that long to send a tech out. I decided to call Solar Help as they once replaced my hot water tank. They were extremely responsive and told me I just had to give them administrative rights to view my system from their office which was completed in 1 day! They got approval to order the new inverter and send a tech out within 1.5 weeks. They only needed to send 1 tech to do the job whereas the other contractor would always send 2 techs. Solar Help provided great professional service and saved me a big bill from HECO!!! Since it's been hot, I've had to use my AC system almost all day!! Thanks Solar Help!! read more

Update: This update is in response to Chaleigh's reply to my post below. A simple apology for not getting back to me and a promise to quickly contact me would be the appropriate response. It would have resulted in my updating or removing my review. Instead this business owner wrote a long diatribe about how I hadn't maintained my hot water heater three years ago and had failed to return the rebate in a timely manner (a situation I hadn't complained about in my review). That is not the issue. This was an unprofessional and defensive response, and extremely counterproductive. My current advice to friends, family, and Yelp viewers about Solar "Help" is run, don't walk - in the opposite direction. Original post: Solar Help installed my solar hot water heater over 10 years ago when they were under different ownership. I was impressed and happy at that time. Then the owner passed away. I've had two interactions with them since then. The first was when the water piping on my roof exploded - they came and fixed that but I paid for it. They were responsive and it was okay. The second was a few days ago when I noticed my hot water heater leaking. I called Monday about three and a receptionist told me someone would get right back to me. I wasn't surprised that no one called me back since it was so close to the end of the work day (but it would have been nice). However Tuesday went by and it is now noon on Wednesday with no response. I need to get this fixed so just called again and explained that I'd called Monday, had gotten no response, and so I'm going to start looking elsewhere. The woman I talked to just said "okay." No effort to accelerate things, no apology, no explanation. I'm disappointed and I guess I won't be calling Solar Help again. So two good interactions and one negative explains my rating. read more

Although I initially had a good experience with the service provided by this company, I learned upon replacing a PV optimizer module myself that their workmanship on a second repair job was problematic. I found 14 overtightened bolts all of which, upon loosening, now have stripped threads. I can understand a few being stripped, but 14? There obviously wasn't any attention paid to the torque setting on their power wrench. The only reasonable way to repair this would be to replace an entire racking rail. read more

After receiving help for issues right away, and a call system that actually has after hour/ weekend support I realize solarhelp is pretty awesome. I actually had the misfortune of working with revolusun, big mistake! They have no support after hours or weekends. If you have a problem Friday after 5 you're SOL and your calls just go straight to the general voicemail till Monday morning. This was not the car with solarhelp, and I now deeply regret going with revolusun for my PV as I'm having issues and have been calling and going straight to voicemail! This was in addition a to tons of problems with scheduling, poor follow up, poor planning, etc. Last time I had an issue with my solar water heater I called solarhelp late night got an actually human being and a call back from a technician. That's why I decided to go with them again for my new house's solar water heater. They worked with me and did great follow up, they installed the system pretty quick when they were able and came back to switch it on once we moved in. I emailed the warranted to John V. as requested. I don't know why Pat C. denies this when I have the proposal and invoices. Something is loose and banging over our bed. Recently had a problem with my enphase system not reporting performance metrics. Called and while speaking with Chalet, the call got dropped. She was nice enough to call me back on her personal phone and apologized for the inconvenience! Then over a period of nearly an hour going back and forth, trouble shooting potential points of failure, finally got the system working again. Love this company. Very please with the experience. John V. came to my house and talked to me about my options. I was interested in relocating the water heater, but John recommended that I do not because of the extra cost. We talked about the best placements for the pipes and the appearance of the lines. Simply, quick and to the point. When it came time for the installation, the crew was on time and finished promptly. I was not home at the time but my spouse reported that everyone was courteous and explained the system to her. I've had experiences where my wife was talked down to by work crews. Not the case here. When I came home, the work area was clean. The only problem I had was I forget it was a new system. When I shower, I often let the water spray into my mouth. Since the system was new, it still had a terrible plastic flavor on the hot water. I was mad that I did something so stupid. Two days later, it was back to normal. Wanted p.v. installed on my home in sea country (Maili) so I did my research last year (2019) around August. Decided to go with Solar help. I wanted to own my system for reasons listed below. 1.Because of the rebate reduction in 2020 2.If selling home, buyer doesn't have to deal with the Solar company. 3. Financed loan through HSFCU. I don't have to make any payments for 2 years. 4. You keep tax credit not the Solar company. I use my tax credits (2 yrs) and any extra monies to lessened loan. (I save around $110 a month that goes towards paying off loan). I'm hoping to pay off loan in 4 yrs or earlier. My system is an enphase system which includes Panels and battery ...Runs GREAT!!!! Called Solar Help to fix leaking from solar panels. We have ceramic roof tiles which some companies do not want to step on. Solar Help knew that these are very strong tiles, came out, diagnosed the problem, fixed it quickly, made sure everything was working well, cleaned up and asked me about whether the rest of the system was working properly. Person on the phone gave me estimates of different scenario costs ahead of time. Nice warning. Very pleased with service. read more

After discussing what was needed, pros and cons of way ahead... all panels had microinverters installed and a new controller all within 4 hours of their arrival. Recently used their service to replace the " sacrificial rod" (Anode) in my water heater. This job is expensive but they helped save me money by applying a credit thats offered through Hawaii Energy. We contacted Enphase and they sent a repaired monitor system after complaint. Thank goodness since the replacement cost is outrageous. Purchasing a PV system is a huge expense. It's not fast and it's not cheap. So you want to make sure that you are working with a company that is going to provide you with excellent service through the entire process. From start to finish, I have been extremely pleased with the service and product that we have received from Solar Help. We received two estimates for a PV system with battery backup. Solar Help was reasonably priced (and of course had great Yelp reviews). Panels were installed in one day and then Jaime came in to install the electric over two and a half days. That may seem like a long time, but they did an amazing job! Solar Help worked with HECO to get all of the permitting and approvals in place. There was really so little that we had to do ourselves. Needless to say, I would highly recommend Solar Help to anyone in the market for a PV system (get it before those tax credits expire). read more

It's sad because this company used to be awesome under the prior owners. The new owner is rude and unethical. I have used the company for many jobs and was happy. Even the second to last time, I replaced my water heater, I hired them. The guys working there are all awesome, mostly because they have been there since the prior owner. In the last job, they came and were not able to finish the work for a couple of reasons. We tried to arrange for the work to be completed, but because of covid, etc. it could not be arranged. Then, when I asked for the work to be completed, all of the sudden, Solar help would not do it. Then, they proceeded to hire a collector to go after me and report to the credit agencies. I have never left a bill unpaid in my life and have an over 800 credit score. This is unbelievable. If anything goes out of the norm with Solar Help Hawaii or if it happens that you are not happy with the work, do not expect good results or good treatment! Beware! They will not work with you to get good results and they do not care if you are a long time customer! You will also see, after this, the manager will give a snarky comment to everything I wrote because this is the way she does business. read more

20/26 of my micro inverters were non functional Solar help assisted in replacing and upgrading the inverters and even added a new string of panels to give me more photovoltaic generation. They had a reasonable response time and now with covid the service guys all show up with masks. read more

After careful consideration and TONS of research, we decided that it was finally time to invest in photovoltaic for our home. We reached out to a number of PV companies (with MUCH more luck than the roofing companies I contacted to reroof our house- see my David's review), and received estimates from EVERYONE that I reached out to. We finally decided that Solar Help would do the work for us. We were initially a bit hesitant to go with Solar Help because they work out of a house in a residential neighborhood - no fancy office or store front. In fact, that's how we first knew about them - by passing their trucks parked on a nearby street. But we're glad we picked them - GREAT CHOICE! John helped guide us through the loan process with their preferred lender - Hawaii State Federal Credit Union. Virtually problem free. Julie at HSFCU was fantastic and extremely patient (I'll be writing a review for them, too). The installation of the panels (all 40+ of them) was done in one day ..... FANTASTIC. The electricians came out the following Saturday and upgraded our meter .... EXCELLENT. Now the next step is to get everything up and running. Still haven't figured out how HECO can maintain a monopoly, thought that was illegal in the USA. Oh well, we've been approved, and it's time to move forward. At that time, I was very pleased and had written a review. I am SO delighted to report that once again, they exceeded my expectations. DETAILS ON WHY/WHY NOT? - We needed to repair or replace the Little Gray Box on our solar hot water heater, so I sent inquiries to several solar-related electric companies in the Oahu area. I asked if the companies could handle the job, and I also requested a ball-park quote. Most of the companies responded within an hour or so. SolarHelp Hawaii responded with a request for my contact information (I did not include this information in my initial request for information). Charleigh, the owner, called me and we discussed my specific hot water heater, and she initially suggested that I conduct research to see if the unit was still under warranty. I was glad that she didn't seem overly eager to make a quick buck at my expense. After a quick review of our system, we determined that the unit was no longer under warranty, and that SolarHelp Hawaii could, indeed, perform the necessary repairs. One day I walked past and noticed our solar water tank leaking. I waited till my son came home; hoping he could figure out how to fix it. It was a Friday evening! I was told by another company that the earliest they could come in was Monday afternoon. All the while, the wai (water) is leaking steadily. I feel like an expert after this process. I ended up with quotes from 5 different places; sunetric who was the most expensive, Kumu Kit, Atlas Energy and Solar Help. My first quote was Atlas Energy because it was Atlas Construction company who I know are great. However they were just getting started and werent ready. We had a really hard time working with the others banks or because of the issues with HECO and Solar Help was the only one that had a bank that was on the ball and was ahead of what needed to be done to get us solar fast. Wow they got things done so fast I was shocked because he got things started really early so by the time we got approved we were ready to go and they came out on New Years day and worked in the rain to make sure we had solar before the new year. So after my Solar Water heater install, I applied for the Solar PV from HECO. After 6 long months, I finally received my HECO approval for my SOLAR PV install. Call John Vallero again, and installed 26 Solar World panels. Great group of guys, and John V would answer his phone calls/text anytime of the day and even on weekends. Vallerie, the office Manager is very pleasant to talk to. Install went well, very clean. The crew were no non-sense installers, they were there to work and get it done. Very professional. I have been telling everyone at work how good this company is. I do vouch for their work. ****** 6 Stars!!! I called just about every Solar companies that I can find on Newspaper, Radio, Yelp, Google etc. Received at 6 call backs and quotes. I can tell you, Solar Help beats them in pricing; apples to apples. Now just waiting for HECO to close my install permit and start using the panels. read more

We had our solar w/h installed by Solar Help in 2013, and it was working fine. However a recent power outage left me without hot water in the evening. I called them and received a receptionist who said she should have some one call me. The next day no one had called, I called the back again since i didn"t want to take a cold shower again. This time I got another receptionist who said she would have some one call me. About 12:30 pm I got a call from Dale . I explained the problem to him, but was unable to get it started again. He said he would be over my house between 2 and 4pm. At 3:30 he arrived and proceeded to check and install a pump that had burned out. By 4:30 I Had hot water again Yea !!. BTW he also told me to call Hawaiian electric and file a claim for the burned out pump. read more
