Devon was super helpful. I was shopping for some panels for a DIY off-grid project and called everyone else on the island but nobody wanted to talk with me. One guy even hung up up the phone even though I was ready to spend close to 3 grand. Island Pacific Energy installed our system a couple of years ago and it has been performing very well until the other day when one of my Powerwall Batteries was acting up after we had a power outage. Dan D'Antin (our really great salesman and contact) suggested I call Tesla Support. After a conversation the issue seemed to solve itself. Low and Behold I was shocked when Island Pacific Energy called and said they would replace the Powerwall that was acting up. Thanks to Tesla for making a ticket and getting this done! I explicitly explain that it is not professional to waste their clients' time, especially when they took off of work to meet with them. Choosing a company to install your PV can be daunting. I talked to numerous companies (Kumu kit, revolusun, etc.) before choosing IPE on a recommendation from a friend. It was one of the best choices I made. Dan is very professional and doesn't try to oversell. He wants to make sure you have the right size system for your home. Others are quick to sell you as much as they can (regardless of what is best for you) and move on. Also, if the rare issue with your PV does occur, Dan is especially quick to resolve any issues you may have to get your system back online. Just realized I've never reviewed my experience with IPE for the installation of my PV & PowerWall system just under 2 years ago. So after calling 4 other solar companies, and having a free consult with Dan, decided to go with IPE. First, Dan was very informative, friendly & works with you according to your electricity usage. Second, he didn't try to upsell us on their more expensive PV panels. Third, after talking with a coworker whom also dealt with Dan, and hearing his positive feedback, made us much more comfortable in our decision. After, deciding to go with IPE, a site survey was coordinated with Jordan, whom would be designing the system, location(panels, batteries, electrical, etc) and the initial process through Heco & city permitting. Next step, after all permits & design are approved, was confirmation of install date. It was a 3 day install process. Among those 3 days, installers were all professional, courteous, and friendly. There was a minor issue with electrical part of install, but it was resolved by the owner, Joseph. When full install of equipment is complete, the process of commissioning system begins, as well as final inspections between city inspectors & Heco. After all that, then it's just a wait game for Heco to close all paperwork on their end, which I'm not gonna lie, took AaaaaaaaaaWhile. Which then your old meter is swapped out to net meter, then you can actually turn system on. Now while process on IPE's side took 5 months. City inspectors about a month after install. To get my net meter, afterwards, another 5 months. So close to a year before we actually reap the benefits of saving money, and believe me it saved us ALOT a month. Once, Heco closed process on their end, Dan came to meet us for a final meeting, a walk through how to use app & understand system, and even go over how to file for our taxes. Side note, through this whole process, we didn't have to file or respond to anything between Heco and IPE. You receive emails, through their communication, but it's just so you know what stage they're at of process. The only time I had to make a call, was to contact city inspector to inform them that work is complete to close permit. IPE dealt with all paperwork, permitting, etc. Any customer approval, was done electronically. Now fast forward to today, and the reason for my review. Last week out of the blue, IPE calls me to inform they need to schedule a swap out of one battery and install new one, due to Tesla reaching out to them. Tesla monitors battery from mainland and takes regular diagnostic readings and apparently one of my batteries wasn't meeting their standards as far as operating. So they took a proactive approach, & sent a new battery to IPE to swap out. Install was completed by Jordan & Devin and took them about 2 hours to complete. My overall experience, with IPE was a very pleasant & informative process. I highly recommend the team of Dan, Jordan, & Joseph to help save you money on your electric bill. Just remember, that it maybe a long process, but Dan was always there to answer our questions and follow up on things. The end results, SAVINGS!!! I was *very* happy with the Island Pacific Energy service I received on my solar panels. I had the panels installed on my rooftop in 2012. Now, in September of 2021, IPE sent Jordan and Devon to (1) do a complete SolarCare service on my panels (see attached graphic) and to (2) replace an Enphase microinverter (with no cost for this, because the microinverters were still under Enphase warranty). Their 2 workers came to replace my SolarEdge inverter and one Optimizer. Athough they charge $200 per hour, they charged $700 for 3 hours. They left after 1 hour since they broke a PVC pipe and had to go back to their office to get a new piece. They returned after 30 mins. One worker did all the work while the other guy sat on his ass. They did not register my new Invertwe so I couldn't monitor the system. Then their project manager quoted me another $531 to install the new monitoring system. I was very disappointed with their services. Over charged and unprofessional. I decided to go with Solar Help to help me with my ZigBee and they only charged me $100 and they register my system. read more

Very annoying. I contacted them to get a quote and the person I spoke to said someone would be coming out to my place on Tuesday at 4 pm. It was very difficult to schedule a time because I work full time m-f and I guess they do not come out on weekends. Forgetting I had a Dr's appointment that day I had to reschedule. So we rescheduled for 5 pm the following day. I am very busy cleaning out the house after a family member's passing. I also have errands to run after work but made it a point to be home. At 5 pm Wednesday I get a phone call. No one came to my house, just a phone call. All he wanted to know was our monthly electric cost. I explained the situation that I was not 100% sure because more family members would be moving in. He just kept on asking my monthly electric cost saying there was no way to create a quote without that. I do not see how he could make a quote over the phone anyway. 2 other companies came out to look at the property, look at the roof, check the location of our electrical box, discuss other things such as batteries, possible a/c installation, attic fans, etc. What really got me is, why did I have to be home at a certain time? I could have done this over the phone the very 1st time I called the company. I could have taken this phone call from anyplace as long as I had my cell phone. I did not have to be home. I could have arranged a call during my lunch break, etc. Just seemed like he wasn't putting much effort into this. They could have a simple questionnaire on a website asking how much the electrical cost is and any other simple questions. Waste of my time. The other 2 quotes I have are very similar in cost and I trust those since they actually took the time to look at my house. I do not trust a quote sight unseen because I can foresee tons of additional costs because of this and that. Just seemed unprofessional that he did not come out after I was told he would. read more

Island Pacific Energy installed a small solar system on our house (just 10 280 watt panels) back in 2015. We got at least five quotes and IPE wasn't just the best price, they were by far the most professional and straightforward to deal with. We've had the panels a few years now, so we've been able to see how the installation has held up. No leaks, everything has worked perfectly, they came back about 15 months post install to check up on the panels and clean them. These guys were a pleasure to work with, even though they had a little trouble gounding the system due to some pre-existing electrical problems--they didn't charge extra for this. One little bit of advice: everyone tries to sell you more solar than you need. I strongly suggest you do your own homework -- study old bills and check out PVwatts at NREL to get a sense of how much you really need. And invest in solar hot water and energy efficiency first. IPE did not try to sell me on a larger system, but almost all others did, and I didn't need it--we're basically net zero for a 4BR house with just 10 panels. After the tax credits, we've basically paid the thing off already. We average less than $20/month for our electricity bills now; without solar it would be well over $200. Returns are not quite as good today without a net metering agreement, but costs continue to fall and should fall much more for batteries. If you install solar, I highly recommend you get a quote from Island Pacific Energy. We worked with Dan D'Antin -- you might request him specifically, but I gather the whole company is solid. read more

After 7 years, four of our panels lost performance and were putting only about 60% of the power of our other panels. Jordan and Kathleen at a Island Pacific Energy put in warranty claims and ended up replacing both the panels and inverters with updated components, all at no cost to us. We particularly appreciated their courtesy and regular communication with us on the status of the warranty claims. All our panels are now performing well. Solar is not the easiest industry to be in. The here today gone tomorrow installers has not helped the trust factor. We've had our install done about four years ago. So far other than 1 panel and an inverter we've had trouble free service. IPE has been responsive. So far so good. I recommend you monitor your system and notify IPE of any problems. read more

With the cost of living so high in Hawaii, we knew that we wanted to install solar to help offset our energy costs. As with any major purchase, we did extensive research on the types of solar panels, microinverters, and HECO'S NET - Net Energy Metering program. After researching the reputation of several local solar companies, we set up consultations and met with 5 of them. The quotes were competitively close, so the deciding factor for us was based on Eric's incredibly helpful knowledge, as well as the overall customer satisfaction ratings posted in BBB, Yelp, and Google reviews. Eric and IPE exhibited great patience with us during our decision making process. After taking everything into consideration, we chose Island Pacific Energy (IPE) for our solar installation. Our consultant, Eric Yasunaga, was knowledgeable and professional throughout every step of the process. From our first meeting, Eric explained the approximate timeline for each phase, told us what to expect and what would be expected of us. When we had questions or concerns throughout the HECO approval process, Eric was there to answer them and made sure that we submitted all paperwork in a timely fashion. Due to changes made by HECO concerning NetMetering requirements, there was an increased urgency for customers to complete all existing NEM agreement installations by the end of 2016. Even with the increased demand, IPE was able to schedule and complete our installation one day before HECO'S installation deadline. Although the timing was very close towards the end, we were relieved to have met all requirements and have our system installed and ready to go. The installation team and head electrician Brian were extremely efficient, professional, and pleasant to deal with. The electrical wiring, new breaker box/circuit, and solar panels were all installed in just three days time. Everything that is visible from the outside of the house looks neat and professionally done, and they even used similar paint colors to match our color scheme (which should meet CC&R requirements). Our final meeting with IPE was in December 2016, where everything was in order and we could not be happier. At that meeting Eric explained how to read our new NEM meter, mentioned that we will have a follow-up meeting in December 2017, and included a USB drive with the necessary forms to file for our 2016 Federal and State solar rebates. In approximately 2.5 month's time, our system has been outperforming the original output specs. We have been producing more energy than we utilize, of which the excess is sent to HECO and credited to our account. We are already experiencing the benefits of the system and are saving hundreds every month, and are amazed by the minimum $18 charge for our HECO bill! I can only comment on the communication with Dan D'Antin the Vice President of Sales. The context of his emails seems to me like I am bothering him inquiring about a PV system. First impressions are the most important to me, and this is not a company I want to deal with when it seems a customer is a bother. He only gives bits of information and use acronyms that should have been explained and not letting the customer attempt to figure it out. An addition to my original review...... After I left the review I received more email communication. Even though the emails were more detailed the Vice-President asked me to change my review on yelp. I should not have to leave a review to get answer for questions I have about their product or service..Thats very unprofessional in my eyes. Yelp is a location to place your reviews not reviews of what the company wants you to place. After the owner responded in saying I didn't answer him In his request to further speak I politely said-" no thank you sir". I guess that was not a clear answer to his question. For others to say they are fair in their pricing, that's interesting. I was quoted $58k for a system with them and a system from a competitor was a little shy of $10k cheaper at $49k. I understand different products but $10k worth of differences. And then they offered a $3500 discount for cash purchase with no financing. Buyers please shop around. Do your own research and communication, I am just a a lone person with zero affiliation with any other solar company looking to purchase solar for my home. read more

Because of my electrical bill being ($350/$400 per month) my wife suggested that we look into the photovoltaic system to cut down on the cost of electrical energy, so I started to look at the p.v. Companies that are on the newspaper/magazine but these advertisement only gives name of the companies and no the workmanship of the companies. I decided to go into YELP site and as I research the companies that are displayed, I was drawn to Island Pacific Energy but the photos of the businesses that the company worked on and was very impress by the workmanship. I gave Island Pacific Energy a call and left my name and in a very short while, Eric Yasunaga gave me a call and set up an appointment with me. I was very impressed with his presentation on the history of the founding of the company and that the President/Owner of the company strict customer's satisfaction. Being that the inquiry was made sometime in September of 2015, I decided that "WE" my wife and I would like to have Island Pacific Energy install the p.v. System. Since the roof on my house is 15 years old, he recommend maybe it was be wise to do the roof, which I thought was a very good recommendation. I did re-roof my house. I found that Eric was looking after my personal interest, because if I needed to re-roof my house after the p.v. Installation, in the long run it was cost me more to hire a company to remove the p.v. system and re-install the p.v. after re-roofing. Prior to re-roofing, I submitted the permits for re-roofing and solar p.v. installations, in the meantime Eric was submitting the necessary papers works with HECO. I wanted the tax credit to file for the 2015 tax and the final completion with City & County/HECO was completed on 12/30/15. Without Eric help and expertise, I would not be able to have the tax credit for 2015. I have only high regards for ISLAND PACIFIC ENERGY AND ERIC YASUNAGA, PROFESSIONAL ALL THE WAY. Emailed requesting a quote on a small PV & battery storage system & was informed by sales manager Dan that systems with less than 20 panels for a $200 per month electric bill don't make economic sense. Fortunately, our electric bill isn't that large. We appreciate the honesty & understand the economies of scale associated with PV systems, but have the funds & were still interested in a quote for a smaller 8-12 panel system to suit our needs. After a very quick response time for Dan's initial comment, we did not get a response to our request for a quote on a smaller system after two follow up tries. So, if u have a small system need, we'd suggest that readers look elsewhere as IPE only seems to be interested in large systems. read more

I am a roofing contractor that works with a lot of solar contractors in our day to day business. Most of them are good contractors, so I had a wide range of people to get bids from. After getting my bids I noticed that they were all in the same general price range, so I needed to base my decision on their quality and performance. One thing that really stood out was the technical expertise of my estimator, Dan D'Antin. He knew his specifications well, which was important to me because my 2 homes had a lot of complications with them-including how to legally get the wiring to the upper house on the side of a steep hill. Further, there were complications because I wanted to put all the panels for my TWO homes on just one of the houses. No one knew for sure if this was allowed in my CPR, so that involved more time at the C&C building department sorting it out. Everything turned out great and my bill every months is only $18 for the basic grid hookup! The foreperson, Jordan, was a real pro and put all my tenants at ease. His assistant Jorel was also helpful. Oh yeah, another big benefit. Island Pacific Energy is one of the few financially sufficient solar companies left in town. They will be around if there are any warranty concerns later. The reason they are so solid is because they get a large monthly re-occurring income from the many large projects that they did PPA's for. Punahou School, for instance, is just one concern that pays them every month for electricity. It's nice to know that they will be there.
