As luck would have it, my previous updated review of Ecosolar would not be my last. After converting my system from running off of Sunpower/Enphase's microinverters to Tesla's inverter from my new Powerwall Plus, I had some worry about what might happen with a single point of failure. Midway through summer, I found that out when my entire system went down when it failed. I reached out to Chris from Ecosolar right away and let him know that I was having a problem and he started troubleshooting immediately. After some investigation it was determined that the inverter had to be replaced and after waiting for Tesla to ship out the part, it was replaced in a timely manner. I was back up and running again, until December when my system started acting up again, this time seemingly having a problem with one of the batteries. I contacted Chris again and let him know that I was having a problem again, and although communication was rough with the end of the year approaching and federal tax credits expiring, I had a service appointment scheduled for the first week of January. On their site visit, it was determined that my new Powerwall Plus itself had gone bad. They were able to start the RMA process with Tesla and told me it would be replaced, possibly with a new Powerwall 3, because the Powerwall 2 was end-of-life and not in production anymore. That meant they would also have to replace my original Powerwall 2 as well with a new Powerwall 3 expansion pack. They hoped optimistically that I wouldn't have to wait too long for the replacement. Fast forward to April and it did take longer than expected for Tesla to send them the replacements but the good news was that Tesla did indeed replace both of my Powerwall 2 units with a new Powerwall 3 and expansion. This did require much more work on the part of Ecosolar to retrofit than just unplugging the old setup and swapping in the new one, for my particular case, and I appreciate the extra lengths they had to go through versus just having to swap out the old if Tesla had just sent a Powerwall Plus replacement instead. I had been down for a few months but the upside is that I have a brand new set of batteries now in 2026. I would say my solar journey has been rougher than I expected it to be. Parts have failed. Parts have been replaced under warranty. Yes, I've experienced periods of time where my PV system has been offline due to failures, and had to deal with big HECO bills until those failures were resolved. I've had two Powerwalls replaced under warranty in the last 7 years (technically 3 since they swapped my still working Powerwall 2 with a new expansion pack), and an inverter. I had problems with weird glitches with power that kept tripping the Powerwall into thinking that I was experiencing a power outage, that Ecosolar's technician helped to diagnose and find out was actually a problem with HECO's underground service feed into my home (which was another years long adventure with HECO altogether). Sunpower's PV control system got booted offline and needed to be reset remotely. Each time I've had a problem I've contacted Ecosolar and each time they've addressed it to the best of their ability. Yes sometimes it takes time to get things resolved, and it can be hard to be patient. Tesla seems to take awhile to get things sent here but they have always come through thus far too. My additional cost for all of their warranty work and service over all this time has been ZERO. Every single problem I've ever had has been addressed. It's great if you can invest in something like this and never have a problem, but I understand that things happen when you're dealing with new technology, and it sucks but sh*t happens. But when you do invest in something as expensive as solar, it's good to know that I've invested with a company that takes care of it's customers. read more

Eco solar installed my PV sometime in 2011 or 2012. The service rep explained things well and there was no problem with installation. My only complaint, is their lack of following up with my inquiries. I recently contacted their office, on two occasions, and I have yet to have a representative return my call. The first time I called (sometime in late January 2026), I left a voicemail. The second time I called (first week in March 2026), I left a message with a live person and was told someone would call me back. I'm still waiting to get a call back. read more

They very unreliable company most stressful I ever investment I ever made. Eco solar installed me 18 Samsung panels $1350 per panel total $23500 comes 20 years warranty. The following year panels started dying one by one eco solar refused to replace them saying Samsung no longer makes panel, so far I have replaced 11 panels with my o n moneys. When heavy rain comes my roof underneath the panels leaks eco solar came did some patches but another heavy rain came and leaks still there same exact location i felt that eco solar is very unwilling so I bought some gallons Henry patches from Home Depot remove 4 panels where I suspected leaking, I cleaned the area thoroughly i patches the area so far so good roof is ugly good thing is covered by the panels. When working, our solar panels are great. We have not had a working solar system for 3 months now and are paying normal, high electrical costs. Our Tesla PW2 was recalled in 2025 (this system was a replacement to our first PW that died). Tesla sent an email notification to EcoSolar in October 2025 to initiate the replacement. We cannot get EcoSolar to respond to Tesla and initiate the PW3 replacement. They don't answer the phone. They aren't responding to email. We have no idea when our system may work again or a new PW3 will arrive. Our current experience with customer service is very poor. read more

From my initial contact with the solar designer, Kirby Mack until present, my experience working with Sun Power has been nothing but awesome. Even after my PV solar system was installed, Kirby helped me understand everything PV solar and especially with HECO's Customer-Grid Supply (CGS) program and the Smart Export (SE) program. I first contacted Kirby back in October 2022 and he went over everything from HECO billing, permitting, pricing for the PV solar system, the design and the installation of the entire system, and the Tesla app for the Powerwall. The building permit took seven months for approval which I believe should've been sooner, but it's the Honolulu C&C. Enough said. On the day of the installation, the full Sun Power crew was present and they only took three hours to complete the installation. They had to shut off the power for about 30 minutes but once they turned it back on, the entire PV solar system was up and running. The crew cleaned up all the debris once they were done, took some photos of their work, then left a little before 11am. Kirby was on it after the installation was completed. He followed up with me even while he was going through personal issues involving his health. I asked Kirby for some aerial photos of the solar panels and he came by 2 weeks later and took a couple photos with his drone. The operations supervisor, Coleen Murphy emailed me the photos of the panels the crew had taken and they look awesome! Kirby even gifted my family and I with an electric burner to use during a storm instead of using my kitchen range/stovetop and avoid draining out the Tesla Powerwall completely. Yep, it was time to step up to a Photovoltaic system for our house in Halawa Heights. We had already replaced the Solar panels for the hot water and Kirby said when we were ready to go total PV to let him know....Hi Kirby, we're ready! The house was measured and we decided we wanted the panels installed on the carport rather than the house roof. The area gets sun all day so it was decided 30 panels would be needed and there was more than enough space for it to work. The roof was recovered with fabric and coated three times with a high grade reflective coating. Panels went up several days later. As you can see from the attached photos they did a great job and we're now the proud owners of a new PV system. Goodby Hawn Elec. This company was professional from start to finish. I wanted to update my review to share some real world value information. After I had Sunpower by Eco Solar install my solar system, my electric bill had dropped from $300+ to around $120. My wife and I had started to watch our Tesla app and try to maximize our savings by running our big appliances during times we were at full battery and still prodding electricity. Because of the long rainy period in Spring, we knew we would do better in summer. Sure enough, we were able to drop our bill down further to about $70 once summer rolled in (May-June). Finally, I decided to replace our traditional water heater. This was not an easy decision to make since I spent a lot of money replacing the original water heater (thanks a lot Steve's Plumbing ). I decided to go through Home Depot and the experience was great, and easy. This month, we saw our lowest bill yet, $42! I still chat with Michael F. on occasion, and he's always got helpful ideas and information. He was just as excited as we were to hear about our newest bill. It would be much better if HECO was more fair with their rates, but at least we're not going to be blindsided again as the rates continue to soar. Overall, I can't recommend this company enough. Almost a year after we initiated this process, we were informed that our contract expired (!), even though it was their responsibility to get things going within 90 days of signing the contract. Here's our experience. We chose to work with Eco Solar because of its stellar 4.7++ Yelp reviews. Michael responded right away. On 10/31/23, we got quotes, the timeline, the contacts and signed within 10 days. Great rapport with Michael. Coleen sent HECO forms. We needed clarification, but she DID NOT RESPOND to messages left nor emails sent. On 11/15, Chris called to schedule a site inspection. We set it up, stayed home on 11/21 so he would have access to whatever he needed. NO SHOW. On 11/28, we contacted Michael who said no news is good news. When we asked about Coleen, he said she was out of town and perhaps the reason for her not responding to our inquiries. Since we travel back and forth to the mainland, we wanted an update on our installation, therefore, on 12/18, we called Coleen again. NO RESPONSE. Finally, on 1/3/2024, we texted Michael for an update. He said he'd call us the next day. NO CALL BACK. Very disappointing since he gets all the kudos on the reviews. And he really is well informed and a great front man for the company. So in the end, on 9/25/24, we received an email from Eco Solar with this information: Solar PV Contract - SunPower by Eco Solar - has been voided for the following reason: Our apologies, this proposal has expired. Met Mike at our property to go over a possible plan, pricing, needs, etc. Once an agreement was made, Mike and his team flew through all approvals (heco, dpp, my subdivision associations). From the time we signed the agreement to install date was roughly over 1 week. Impressive! On install date, the install team of Gavin, Mo, and Kelii once again explained the plan and then proceeded to start. The entire installation took just about 4 hours. Once again impressed. Michael French is the most competent and personable sales professional you're ever going to meet. His relationships at Tesla for PowerWalls reach Drew Baglino. He is often invited to teach other installers how to size and configure PV systems. And he did a brilliant job of sizing our system. After 4 months, we're paying the minimum HECO connection fee OF $30/month on each of the two systems that we ordered. DPP really jerked us around asking for trivial and seemingly unnecessary changes to our plans because we are in the AH flood zone. They made each change without hesitation. When it came to installation, Ben Parish, the EcoSolar CEO showed up to supervise the crew on both days all day. I couldn't believe how fast they installed all the PowerWalls and boxes. I recommend SunPower by Eco Solar, who recently installed 22 PV panels and two Tesla batteries at our residence. For the past three months our HECO bill has been the minimum flat rate of $25 (for grid connection). 100% of our electrical needs has been generated from the PV panels and stored power in the batteries for night-time use. In the future, we plan to purchase an electric vehicle which is why we are generating more electricity than is currently needed. One of our neighbors, who had SunPower by Eco Solar install at their former and current residence, recommended them. Another neighbor interviewed other providers and said the SunPower by Eco Solar representative was the most knowledgeable. We elected to install the SunPower SPR-X21-350-BLK-AC panels on the backside roof (front side is optimal location) for aesthetics which resulted in purchasing two extra panels to generate the same amount of electricity. SunPower is a large PV manufacturer headquartered on the mainland (San Jose, California) and their equipment comes with a 25-year warranty. SunPower by Eco Solar is licensed, has a A+ rating with the BBB, and is one of the few with a designation "SunPower Master Dealer". Matt and Ben came to our house and provided useful information, answered all our questions, and subsequently provided a design plan. Chris resolved an initial setup software problem by escalating the issue to the SunPower's Regional Manager who called me to explain what happened. Additionally, SunPower by Eco Solar took care of DPP permitting and necessary agreements with HECO. Started with 12 panels and one Tesla battery... knocked our normal $200+ electric bill down to $70+/-... Then upgraded to 32 panels and 2 batteries... haven't touched the grid even once! The initial consultation was very informative without being overwhelming, all of our questions were answered in a way that we could understand and trust, the quote was very competitive - as was the warranties. Eco Solar did all the heavy-lifting for us in terms of getting all the i's dotted and t's crossed working with the City and County of Honolulu and HECO. They handled everything. Let me start off first by thanking Mike and his entire team for an easy and amazing experience. We are so excited to be able to say we have solar. 16 Panels and a Tesla Powerwall later....we are proud to say we have taken a step to go green and save money! We both were cautious in making the decision on going solar with our new home purchase. The idea of the process seemed daunting with association rules, HECO, tax incentives, and even financing. Mike arrived at the house already looking at our setup as he walked into the home. Efficiently assessing and walking me through the system as we made our way in. It took all but 3 weeks from the time of Mike arriving till installation and us being up and running. The Eco Solar team handled everything from assessing and providing the best system recommended based on now and future use, contract, Gentry Association Application, HECO application, Financing recommendations and installation. We did not need to do a single thing besides DocuSigning, and Finance application! The Installation team was simply impeccable. They all arrived on time, had all the tools for their craft and made everything look so easy! The communication is truly something to commend. Installation is one thing, but to be as courteous, kind, proffesional, and to be able to answer all my questions without hesitation is what every customer would want and should receive. The quality of their work...fit and finish, marvelous! They worked hard to deal with a Zero Lot issue as I was disappointed with Association rules but the Team assured me that although I didn't agree with the rules, that it would both look okay and that I would not run into any future issues with my association. Mike also did a follow up call to see how things went from my side and made sure to answer any questions I may have had and also explained what other follow on tasks. I did my research prior to contacting potential solar PV installers and knew what I wanted. Sunpower panels are of a premium grade in the vast sea of panel brands, and is regarded in the industry as one of the best. If you are looking for a budget PV panel and installation, look somewhere else. In this day and age you often get what you pay for, and if you want the best consider Sunpower by Eco Solar as your PV installer. They don't have an exclusive right to sell Sunpower panels in Hawaii; however, they are the authorized dealer. Their quote did come in over 10% less than a major competitor for an identical install, and when you are talking in the tens of thousands this can save you a considerable amount. Eco Solar is a busy company and not starving for new customers. They were not as prompt as some other companies in calling back when requesting a quote. In fact I had to call them to check if a salesman was going to contact me. Another warning is that Eco Solar may also not return messages left on their voicemail. I am a patient person, and these were minor issues to me, not enough to deduct a star... however, the company can work on improving here as some other customers may not be as forgiving. My salesperson was Mike French. Mike is a very likeable guy and not in any way going to pressure you to sign a contract with them. I wish I could say the same for some of Eco Solar's competition salespeople who I found to be high pressure and somewhat annoying in their persistence. Mike has confidence in his brand, the quality of the installation, and the reputation of Eco Solar so he doesn't have to pressure you to get business. Mike had some of the coolest information to share with me illustrating how advanced SunPower was over others. It was so very interesting to see a diagram of all of the possible combinations of panel installation areas on your roof with the potential of power generation. This is invaluable in allowing the homeowner to select the panel locations in regards to power generation and curbside aesthetics. Some people don't care how their panels look from the street, but I do so this report was very helpful to me. I believe that this report was called the Aurora Shade Report, and is a proprietary Sunpower software. Following Mike's visit, in a few weeks Ben Parish will come to your home to do a site survey. I found this to be a special touch because Ben is the head honcho of Eco Solar, and this shows me that in this company the boss still is very involved and cares about each individual job. Ben will climb up on your roof, do measurements, and discuss the electrical location with you. Ben was patient and wiling to answer questions regarding the install. On the day of installation 6 Eco Solar technicians showed up within the promised time. They worked neatly and efficiently finishing the install within a few hours. They were cordial and cleaned up all debris prior to leaving. It's only been a few days since the PV system has been installed, and all seems good thus far. I really Love the Tesla app! I believe that Eco Solar install will be able to eliminate the majority of my monthly electric bill. From my initial contact with Eco Solar via Yelp to the date of installation this journey took almost 5 months. I would also like to recognize Chris at Eco Solar...never met the guy but spoke to him a few times on the phone, and he was very patient with me. Also mahalo to Andrea, Colleen, Gavin as you stood out in helping in making the PV event a little less frustrating.
