Emporia Pro that Asher set up.

Asher of Direct Electric Hawaii did a terrific job installing my Emporio Pro EV charger. He knows what he's doing, was very helpful with setting up the app, did the job very quickly and cleaned up after himself. He is very easy going, friendly a really likable guy. I'm really glad that he installed my charger. I would definitely hire him again and I would recommend him to my family and friends.

Is that my Bessie in a Tessie? Yes- it's me, borrowing my mama and hubbys new rides lol. My mom needed a new car and so did my husband. Somehow, I convinced both of them to get Teslas. We wanted a charging station at each of our homes. I called another company with no response but Direct Electric Hawaii responded immediately. I sent some pics to the company and Asher visited to take a look to provide us with a estimate. A few days later, the Tesla wall charger was installed. Easy peasy! It was expensive compared to other places, but I don't mind paying the price knowing the company is responsive and is listed on the Tesla app as one of their recommended installers.

We needed to install a Tesla charging unit at our home and called Direct Electric for services. It was and easy process to schedule an appointment. The customer service tech on the line FaceTime'd me and wanted to see the breaker, took some notes, and we scheduled a morning a few days out. The service techs were timely and friendly. We had Damien and Nick as our techs and both were friendly and easy to communicate with. My young son was home that day and Nick introduced himself and asked him his name and of course my son was curious about the electrical stuff so he was watching from afar. The install took about 2.5 hours and included the drilling in the walls etc. They made sure the area was clean and ready for charging by cleaning up the space around where the hole was drilled. We are really pleased with the customer service and the quality of work. Would recommend for all your electrical needs.

Unfortunately I would not recommend Direct Electric Hawaii to do your Tesla installation. I picked them because they had Yelp reviews and they were Certified Tesla Electricians. We had a NEMA 1450 installed (4 prong) done. We talked to Asher (owner) for a pre-check review and then Angel did the installation. For some reason after the installation our car was still not charging and would shut off after 20-30 minutes of charging. Angel said he would come back and check it (which he did that same day). He checked everything and said to make sure he would come back and change out the breaker and possibly the 1450 receptacle in case it was faulty. Angel never showed back up, no call, no nothing. I followed up with him and still no response. I then called the office to see if everything was ok and I got Asher on the phone. He was very terse and condescending saying "WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE US TO DO...WHAT WOULD MAKE YOU HAPPY?" Jeez, I was honestly just calling first to see what happened with Angel which I expressed and second what maybe wrong and to hopefully get help trouble shooting the situation. To be fair, Asher came back out to the house and apologized for the phone conversation and double checked everything. Long story but I ended up having to go through Tesla directly and it ended up being the charger and they gave me a new one. You would think that a "Tesla Certified Electrician" like Direct Electric Hawaii would go through some education about the cars themselves and also the chargers to help troubleshoot and one might think they also have connections to people at Tesla here in Hawaii to help if anything goes wrong. Apparently, Direct Electric Hawaii stops at the installation and has little knowledge about how the chargers works and no real connections to Tesla folks (I did get one number that they used years back but had to work between many departments to contact the right folks on island). I am not an electrician but had to point out to them that the charger itself has its own little circuit because I asked what a little clicking noise was - you would think they would know things like this. You would also think that after this fiasco that Direct Electric Hawaii (and the owner Asher) would care more about our situation but that was not the case. One of their big sales points was that they handle all the permitting. The last email I got from Asher at the end of January saying they have permit in hand and they would let me know when the inspector is coming out and also send me a copy of the closed permit. Both were not done and I have not heard from them. Honestly, I don't like writing negative reviews and wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and also the reason why I waited so long to see if they would try to make things right. Two months later still no follow up from them and feel like "What is so special about the "Tesla Certification?" I probably paid twice as much to a company that really does not know very much about Tesla and they dropped the ball twice. If all Tesla Certified Electricians are like this, I suggest getting a "normal electrician" who can follow these guidelines (or whichever charger you are getting). You will probably save half the costs and have a working charger. Tesla posts the requirements online so if you have a good electrician who can do the work you don't need a certified Tesla guy. https://www.tesla.com/sites/default/files/downloads/US/universalmobileconnector_nema_14-50.pdf

National Electric Code requirements for gfci

Really bad company.. had them install 14-50 out with breakers.. they installed everything but not with in code.. so all receptacles need to have a gfci for electric vehicle charging and they didn't install a breaker with that.. and I have a pool that is within 20 feet of the circuit breaker so you do need to put a gfci protected breaker.. so called them up and explained everything and they are fighting with me saying they did everything right.. Would not trust this company.. stay far away from this company.. they don't know any electrical codes.. upon further research National Electric Code section 625.54 requires gfci circuit breaker are required for receptacles that is in garages, and my 14-50 receptacle is located in my garage.. so I have proof of the code in the pictures.. had 2 other electricians confirm that you do need a gfci circuit breaker.so the owner doesn't want to admit his mistake and fix the problem.. he rather let his ego get in the way instead of fixing the problem and doing the right thing by protecting the home owner..

Midway through summer, I found that out when my entire system went down when it failed. I reached out to Chris from Ecosolar right away and let him know that I was having a problem and he started troubleshooting immediately. After some investigation it was determined that the inverter had to be replaced and after waiting for Tesla to ship out the part, it was replaced in a timely manner. I was back up and running again, until December when my system started acting up again, this time seemingly having a problem with one of the batteries. I contacted Chris again and let him know that I was having a problem again, and although communication was rough with the end of the year approaching and federal tax credits expiring, I had a service appointment scheduled for the first week of January. On their site visit, it was determined that my new Powerwall Plus itself had gone bad. They were able to start the RMA process with Tesla and told me it would be replaced, possibly with a new Powerwall 3, because the Powerwall 2 was end-of-life and not in production anymore. That meant they would also have to replace my original Powerwall 2 as well with a new Powerwall 3 expansion pack. They hoped optimistically that I wouldn't have to wait too long for the replacement. Fast forward to April and it did take longer than expected for Tesla to send them the replacements but the good news was that Tesla did indeed replace both of my Powerwall 2 units with a new Powerwall 3 and expansion. This did require much more work on the part of Ecosolar to retrofit than just unplugging the old setup and swapping in the new one, for my particular case, and I appreciate the extra lengths they had to go through versus just having to swap out the old if Tesla had just sent a Powerwall Plus replacement instead. I had been down for a few months but the upside is that I have a brand new set of batteries now in 2026. I would say my solar journey has been rougher than I expected it to be. Parts have failed. Parts have been replaced under warranty. Yes, I've experienced periods of time where my PV system has been offline due to failures, and had to deal with big HECO bills until those failures were resolved. I've had two Powerwalls replaced under warranty in the last 7 years (technically 3 since they swapped my still working Powerwall 2 with a new expansion pack), and an inverter. I had problems with weird glitches with power that kept tripping the Powerwall into thinking that I was experiencing a power outage, that Ecosolar's technician helped to diagnose and find out was actually a problem with HECO's underground service feed into my home (which was another years long adventure with HECO altogether). Sunpower's PV control system got booted offline and needed to be reset remotely. Each time I've had a problem I've contacted Ecosolar and each time they've addressed it to the best of their ability. Yes sometimes it takes time to get things resolved, and it can be hard to be patient. Tesla seems to take awhile to get things sent here but they have always come through thus far too. My additional cost for all of their warranty work and service over all this time has been ZERO. Every single problem I've ever had has been addressed. It's great if you can invest in something like this and never have a problem, but I understand that things happen when you're dealing with new technology, and it sucks but sh*t happens. But when you do invest in something as expensive as solar, it's good to know that I've invested with a company that takes care of it's customers.

From the start…read moreJulian didn't come across as a typical sales rep at all -- he felt more like a knowledgeable industry expert who offered thoughtful, objective opinions about different technologies and brands. Before meeting him, I spoke with two other solar companies. One rep came on extremely strong and the meeting felt very sales-driven and impersonal, which made it hard to trust the information being presented. The other rep seemed to still be in training and had to run nearly every question through a senior colleague. Working with Julian was a relief. He's clearly experienced and communicates in a smart, casual, and very approachable way. We also had a great experience with Jelly and Brandi from the Solartech administrative team--they were easy to work with and helped keep everything moving smoothly. Solartech's digital quote platform made comparing options and selecting our plan simple and easy to understand. We ultimately decided against Tesla batteries after learning about potential overheating issues, which can be a concern in a place as hot as Hawaii. We went with Enphase we're happy with our choice. The installation team was excellent as well. Nainoa, the lead electrician on our project, is a total pro--easy to talk to, great at problem-solving, and he helped us quickly figure out a battery placement challenge. He completed the electrical work in just a few hours. During the panel installation, the crew accidentally drilled through part of our roof which caused a small leak, but they responded immediately and repaired it right away. Everything was patched up and looks good as new. We really appreciated how quickly they addressed the situation. Post-purchase support has been just as strong. I had some questions about how our system was pulling power from the grid, and Julian took the time to explain everything. It turned out to be more of a settings preference than an issue. He followed up with helpful explainer videos and even called a week later to make sure everything made sense. Overall, we're very happy with the experience and appreciate the professionalism, transparency, and support from the whole Solartech team.

Cisco had a great technical understanding and was a phenomenal communicator, working hard to ensure they were providing a system that best fit our needs. I'm a resident on the Big Island and had been lightly shopping around for a home solar system…read more Being new to the solar game and not sure if I was going to sell my home sometime down the road or live in it until the day I die, I knew purchasing or financing an entire system was not for me at this time. Plus, I was concerned about maintenance and potential repairs, should I own a system I would think that those burdens would rest on my shoulders which was also why I was leaning toward not outright owning a system. The rates per kilowatt also varied from company to company which played a role in my final decision. My Helco bill was easily over $250 a month and during the holidays it was breaking $300. My Vivint Solar bill is no more than $90 on a crystal clear, sunny month when my panels are operating at full capacity and drinking in the sunshine. Do I use every last drop of the power my panels produce every month? Nope. On months when our usage is lower than normal the excess power gets stored which is great for months when my power usage is higher than normal like now, during Christmas with our holiday décor and lights on all night. Another great fact about my saved power: it carries over. Unlike my cell phone data which I either use or lose, my excess power carries over. The process was simple and painless. I did not pay one cent until I had received my first Vivint Solar bill. No money down. The slowest part of the process was waiting for Helco to inspect and approve the panels. That was it. And now, should I sell my home, should the panels get struck by lightening, should a hurricane cause damage to the panels, anything really, Vivint dispatches a repair crew and takes care of everything. If my panels are not functioning properly, I do not receive a bill. Simple. And my home is still linked into Helco so they're my back up ensuring that I always have electricity. Like I mentioned earlier, my system is capable of producing no more than $90 of power for the month. How did I decide on that size? My Vivint Solar rep, Jeff, looked at my past year of Helco bills and added 15% more just for cushion. What do I mean when I say my system is capable of producing, you ask? Let me explain. If the weather was perfectly clear and sunny every single minute of every single day for a month then my panels would drink up every drop of ray and produce power that would cost me a total of $90. Here in Hilo, the wettest part of the island, we can count on an overcast sky for at least ten minutes everyday. So my bills have been averaging about $70 a month. It's really simple and I highly recommend Vivint Solar. If you're window shopping, as I was too, I highly recommend these points to consider when making your final decision: - Is it possible that you will ever move? - Never, ever plan on moving, so you've decided to just buy the panels, then are you prepared for potential repairs and maintenance? - How much per kilowatt is the solar company charging? - Do you need to shell out any money for the installation process or for anything at all other than your monthly solar bill? Call the rep I worked with, Jeff, and let him know my Yelp review attracted you. Once you've decided Vivint Solar is for you too then you'll receive a discounted monthly bill for referrals too!
