We had a faulty switch in our kitchen and Direct Electric came to our rescue! One evening, we came home and the garbage disposal was running. We needed to install a Tesla charging unit at our home and called Direct Electric for services. It was and easy process to schedule an appointment. The customer service tech on the line FaceTime'd me and wanted to see the breaker, took some notes, and we scheduled a morning a few days out. The service techs were timely and friendly. We had Damien and Nick as our techs and both were friendly and easy to communicate with. My young son was home that day and Nick introduced himself and asked him his name and of course my son was curious about the electrical stuff so he was watching from afar. The install took about 2.5 hours and included the drilling in the walls etc. They made sure the area was clean and ready for charging by cleaning up the space around where the hole was drilled. Unfortunately I would not recommend Direct Electric Hawaii to do your Tesla installation. I picked them because they had Yelp reviews and they were Certified Tesla Electricians. We had a NEMA 1450 installed (4 prong) done. We talked to Asher (owner) for a pre-check review and then Angel did the installation. For some reason after the installation our car was still not charging and would shut off after 20-30 minutes of charging. Angel said he would come back and check it (which he did that same day). He checked everything and said to make sure he would come back and change out the breaker and possibly the 1450 receptacle in case it was faulty. Angel never showed back up, no call, no nothing. I followed up with him and still no response. I then called the office to see if everything was ok and I got Asher on the phone. He was very terse and condescending saying "WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE US TO DO...WHAT WOULD MAKE YOU HAPPY?" Jeez, I was honestly just calling first to see what happened with Angel which I expressed and second what maybe wrong and to hopefully get help trouble shooting the situation. To be fair, Asher came back out to the house and apologized for the phone conversation and double checked everything. Long story but I ended up having to go through Tesla directly and it ended up being the charger and they gave me a new one. You would think that a "Tesla Certified Electrician" like Direct Electric Hawaii would go through some education about the cars themselves and also the chargers to help troubleshoot and one might think they also have connections to people at Tesla here in Hawaii to help if anything goes wrong. Apparently, Direct Electric Hawaii stops at the installation and has little knowledge about how the chargers works and no real connections to Tesla folks (I did get one number that they used years back but had to work between many departments to contact the right folks on island). I am not an electrician but had to point out to them that the charger itself has its own little circuit because I asked what a little clicking noise was - you would think they would know things like this. You would also think that after this fiasco that Direct Electric Hawaii (and the owner Asher) would care more about our situation but that was not the case. One of their big sales points was that they handle all the permitting. The last email I got from Asher at the end of January saying they have permit in hand and they would let me know when the inspector is coming out and also send me a copy of the closed permit. Both were not done and I have not heard from them. Honestly, I don't like writing negative reviews and wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and also the reason why I waited so long to see if they would try to make things right. Two months later still no follow up from them and feel like "What is so special about the "Tesla Certification?" I probably paid twice as much to a company that really does not know very much about Tesla and they dropped the ball twice. If all Tesla Certified Electricians are like this, I suggest getting a "normal electrician" who can follow these guidelines (or whichever charger you are getting). You will probably save half the costs and have a working charger. I was happy with their work but after they left I took a closer look. The wire molding wasn't flush against the wall and the ceiling. I think they'd need to redo the job because they need to remove the wiring first. How can you not put an extra couple of screws to make it flush against the wall? Really bad company.. had them install 14-50 out with breakers.. they installed everything but not with in code.. so all receptacles need to have a gfci for electric vehicle charging and they didn't install a breaker with that.. and I have a pool that is within 20 feet of the circuit breaker so you do need to put a gfci protected breaker.. so called them up and explained everything and they are fighting with me saying they did everything right.. Would not trust this company.. stay far away from this company.. they don't know any electrical codes.. upon further research National Electric Code section 625.54 requires gfci circuit breaker are required for receptacles that is in garages, and my 14-50 receptacle is located in my garage.. so I have proof of the code in the pictures.. had 2 other electricians confirm that you do need a gfci circuit breaker.so the owner doesn't want to admit his mistake and fix the problem.. he rather let his ego get in the way instead of fixing the problem and doing the right thing by protecting the home owner.. read more

As always I go through Yelp to find contractors to do simple tasks that I am on able to do because of work. As always I do my research first before I contact a contractor. I purchase a floodlight cam from ring.com for added security for my home. My previous electrician would have done it for $75 because you're just replacing a light fixture but she was off Island. The owner Asher stated it will cost $275, for just changing a light fixture with my experience dealing with electrician in the pass I thought this was outrageous costs for a 15 minute job. Good thing yelp give you the options more than one company, I found a honest electrician and the job was done less than 10 minutes for $80. read more

They installed three GFCI receptacles (outlets) for three bidets I recently installed. One required that they tap into an outlet close by. This meant tearing out some drywall. I knew in advance that I needed to patch the drywall after the fact. They did well in preserving as much of the old drywall to make it easier to patch. The other two required minimal drywall removal. They did well in installing the receptacles, clean and well positioned. For the most part post work in clean up was ok. This is the only reason for four and not five stars. There was still a little debris on the floor after they left the job. Both workers were very polite and did the work with very little disruptions. read more

We live on the north shore at Sunset Beach and used Direct Electric to install a NEMA 14-50 outlet at our house for a Tesla. Asher came and did the initial estimate. The crew that came on installation day was fantastic. They worked through a few minor challenges like crawling under a 50 year old house without any concern. While they were working I remembered I wanted to add an outlet inside our kitchen. They called Asher and worked out the added cost which was nominal and got it done. I made a new buddy, Roderick! I called Direct Electric Hawaii up after speaking to a couple of people from other companies who should not be working in customer service! I forget the lady who answered for Direct but she was cool and said she'd have someone call me right away. Bam, 20 minutes later I get a call from Roderick, he asked what was going on. I explained I needed an outlet re-done to accommodate a special plug for a conveyor dryer. He said he could be there at the end of the hour. He popped up, looked around, gave me a quote and went straight to work! An hour or less later, he had us all set-up plus re-wired some other things to save us some money as well as took a few safety hazards out of our way! Back in December they came to my house to fix at bad outlet. The technician spent about 3 hours and still didn't get it right. A minute after she left the outlet failed. We were able to catch are in the parking lot and she came back. While she was repairing the outlet she apparently knocked loose some piping under the Kitchen sink. The next morning we discovered it by stepping into the leaking water on the floor. Just 2 days ago the same outlet failed again. When we contacted Direct Electric they wanted to charge us $200 to come out to take a look. No taking responsibility for not repairing it right the 1st time. I am very disappointed I will not be using them again. Shortly after posting my review Direct Electric came to the house and made everything right at no cost. I guess there was a communication break down between my renters (family) and Direct Electric. I am happy to report all is well now. Yes, I will use them again. read more

Long story short: They charge $110/hour but minimum charge is for 2 hours $220. They did not tell me that. Instead they just said it would cost $220 to fix the fan. However it could not be fixed, electrician stayed for not more than 30 minutes and charged us full price for 2 hours plus tax. Had I known that it was an hourly charge and not just $220 per 1 fan, I would have asked him to look at our other fans. I was misled and ripped off. I did try to call them first and resolve the problem peacefully. They just kept telling me they can't help and not even apologizing, just blaming me for misunderstanding them. Ahhhh! We totally love these guys. Professional Friendly Reliable Consistent Affordable So, finally found a good company to install a split a/c system into our home. He gave us a really good quote on the spot, and then gave us a ballpark on the electrical aspect and recommended...Direct Electric! What a coincidence! I was already set to call them anyway, but knowing that they often do work together really boosted my confidence in both companies. Anyway, Karishma & Taryn (really professional and friendly receptionists) have been terrific at scheduling and keeping me updated. Karishma initially wanted to have someone come out to assess our home to get us a quote prior to the installation, but since we've worked with them in the past we trusted that they'd again give us a fair price. So, we set them up to come out the same day as the AireXtreme. BTdubs, they always call the day before to confirm (I think it's bad practice if I have to make the call myself). This time we had John & Asher working on our house -- very easy to deal with, and know exactly what's up. They were supposed to come down around 10am, but were called to an emergency in Waikiki and couldn't make it out until 2pm (which meant braving H1 traffies during peak hours), but Karishma reassured me that they would have us with air conditioning by the end of the day, and she was right. It did take several hours because our house is pretty big and there was a lot of climbing and maneuvering involved. I feel pretty bad because our home isn't even insulated and it was high heat time out here in Ewa Beach so I'm sure John was really suffering, but he didn't complain at all. He was extremely professional and friendly. Again they did some extra work for us (they took out some left over tubing from our solar water heater & some other stuff but I don't understand technical jargon) and again, didn't charge us for that. They're pretty adamant about sticking with their original quotes. Not that we're rich or anything, but for all the work they do, I really wouldn't mind paying extra. Speaks a lot toward the character of this company. Anyway, I'm not big on blasting personal pricing for services done at our home only because it will vary for everyone, but I will say that they were several hundred dollars below the ballpark quote AireXreme said we may be expecting from any electric company. Absolutely deceiving on the phone, couldn't book properly, failed to mention an email regarding an estimated cost and only told "A few hundred dollars" on the phone, and ended up being almost 3x more without the quote even being approved. Words mean things and they kept contradicting themselves in hourly rates vs rates depending on the job and the two people were probably right next to each other in the office. Asked to talk to the boss and she jokingly said "I'll send a text to him." For future customers, always trust but verify the work. Give clear (in this case even more clear) and concise guidance....otherwise you'll be in the hole and talking to other electrician companies who are bewildered at the case and are more straightforward and on paper driven. read more

Yelp review We found Direct Electric via Yelp, and they responded very quickly to setup a initial inspection, provide an estimate and sent an electrician within a week or so to help us upgrade the electrical panel, install ceiling fans and recessed lights with switches amongst a few other things. Life is Good! We have doctors we trust, a car mechanic who's good and reasonable, a plumber (Big Tuna Plumbing), and finally, an electrician (Direct Electric). Direct Electric is responsive, on time, friendly, knowledgeable, and super hard working. Johnathan Pierce and his helper Mana were exceptionally attentive and answered every dumb question we had about electricity, lights, ballasts, LED's, and fluorescents we could think of . . . in addition, they fixed five switches, bulbs, and ballasts in about 2 hours after trouble shooting, changing out dead fixtures, checking for power and conductivity in all my lights. I called Direct Electric last Friday and I left a message from the phone number they had on their Yelp page. They called me Friday morning as soon as they could and booked me for late Tuesday. However, they called me back with an earlier slot that opened up. They were helpful on the phone, very supportive about our issue, and expressed a sincere desire to get us the help we needed as quickly as could be scheduled. Johnathan called me around 12:30PM saying he was going to be there as soon as he finished lunch and by 1:40, they were there on schedule and immediately started fixing things in my old home. After fixing five fixtures, the last one stumped them and they spent the next hour checking and double checking very thoroughly. What a lucky find! My neighbor used this company to rewire his house last week and because we needed the same thing done to our plantation home, we thought we'd get a quote and go from there. Long story short, this company is great! The first word that comes to mind is professionalism. Our house had extremely old (1938) knob and tube wiring which is obsolete and relatively dangerous. It's not an easy job but they crushed it. I mainly dealt with Jonathan, Jimmy and Robert. They did the entire job in 5 days. They were extremely accommodating as they would leave power on in a particular room so that my wife and newborn daughter would be comfortable. We were definitely apprehensive about getting the house rewired while we were living in it, but these guys made it no problem. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more
