Bad customer service! Expensive prices & and not good tea. We got to the bubble tea spot and we had a party of 8 people, we got there at 930 and spent some time getting our order. No one said anything about closing or anything. We sat down at like 935 got tea at 938 and then sat down to chat and catch up. 5 mins later someone came up to us a worker women and said "closed" basically telling us to leave. But when we spent time to order they didn't say anything we are closing soon. The tea is expensive two bubble teas costing $17 and also the tea was watery/artificial and had a bad after taste in all three of ours. Unfortunately the tea and the service was bad. I appreciate the covid procedures they have in place! I can tell they take it seriously. I went in one night and it was not packed at all. The cashier was very helpful in explaining the menu and making suggestions and I needed up getting the Oreo Creme Brulee Milk Tea. It was delicious! Definitely need to shake before sticking the straw in to get maximum flavor! And Oreo tastes great in anything really but I thought it was really good with milk tea. There boba is also very good. This spot is for sure a staple in New Haven! The menu, service, and flavor is 100% worth it. They have a wide variety from authentic drinks to deserts. I'm never disappointed with my choice of bubble tea for each visit. I'm so happy of all the business they've received because we need more places like this! The sit down area has been reduced recently, I assume due to the pandemic. So, I'd recommend picking up from this spot rather than enjoying it inside! The first time I came here I got the oolong milk tea with boba for myself and Thai tea for my husband. My oolong milk tea was watery, almost tasteless. The boba was hard and not sweet. The Thai tea was so bitter, my husband said it was nearly not worth drinking. I had also gotten a mango ice cream macaron. The macaron cookie was suppose to be dyed orange but it looked brown because the cookie had been so overbaked, it was nearly burnt. The ice cream sorbet part was ok. Just sweet with artificial mango flavor. I just gave ViVi Tea another visit to see if it would be better this round. I paid $5.25 for a medium flaming brown sugar milk with boba. I had asked for 50% less sugar and I guess that was the only thing giving the drink flavor because it tasted like lightly sweetened milk. If someone had poured this milk into my cereal bowl, I don't even know if I would have noticed that it's not plain milk. The boba this time was chewy and sweet--the only redeeming part of this drink. Over priced and terrible drinks. I will go back to making my own milk tea with fresh steeped tea and fresh cooked boba. Better to spend time making it myself than trying to treat myself by buying a drink from the restaurant and having it be worse than a drink I botch at home. My other complaint is the shop smells stale and slightly like body odor inside by the tables. First time I came here, the wait was very long for the drinks and the the customer service was subpar (it seemed like they don't like working there). There isn't much of a seating area - there's some small two person tables lined up on the side and then theres a few tables in a back; cute little lounge area too. Overall, the place is simple, cutely decorated, and cheap. In NYC, Vivi is my go to place for bubble tea. Happy to see that they opened in New Haven. Tapioca pearls were a bit harder than the one in NYC. Went here after a delicious lunch for some refreshing boba. I've been here a few times and it never disappoints. The tea is always fresh and the service fast. Somehow I always come right before a big rush of people but the employees are able to get through the crowd fast. This most recent time I got the fresh milk tea with pudding. I didn't realize the fresh milk tea series was made with lactaid free milk and I was very pleased to know because I am lactose intolerant! I had never tried to pudding either and my friend told me to try it because it was good. I was a bit wary but it was great! The pudding wasn't in ball form like I thought it may be, it was more so in large chunks that break up as you sip on the drink. The pudding was slightly sweet but nothing overbearing. One improvement I have for the establishment was that it always smells very smoky and like they had just fried something (probably because they serve snacks like Taiwanese style fried chicken and takoyaki). My boyfriend (mostly him) and I are regulars at ViVi so it's insane how I've yet to support this small business with a solid five stars, they are super busy but totally worth it. VERY nice people and very clean given the circumstances latly due to covid. I was really looking forward to getting some good quality milk tea from ViVi's since I've had it a few times, previously when my friend came to visit me. However, since visiting them everyday for the last three days, I have been sorely disappointed. Although the storefront is really clean and nice, the service was really sloppy. My drinks were messed up at two different occasions, and the one time when we pointed it out to the staff, they were very dismissive and rude about replacing our drink. Their drinks were also very inconsistent. I order milk tea half sweet without pearls two times, and one time it was on point, but the second time, they put pearls in the drink and barely put any sweetness in it. I was disappointed to ask them to replace the drink for me. I was really shocked because when I had the drink on the first day, the staff were relatively polite/friendly and made a decent drink.They also randomly closed the kitchen one night and didn't have crispy chicken another night; this seemed pretty inconsistent, and I feel like there should be a notice or information about when the kitchen closes for each night. This is more of a nitpicky thing, but they didn't broadcast their reward card program at all. Usually at these places, they always hand you a reward card if you don't have one to garner more support and loyalty. I felt that the staff working there were very apathetic to the customers and didn't seem to care. All in all, this had a lot of potential (and having had the ViVi's in NYC, I know what they're like when it's operating at optimal settings), but it seems that management and staffing need to be improved to produce better service and more consistently tasty drinks. read more

Vivi is a decent boba locale (or as it's known here, bubble tea). The atmosphere here is quite adorable. Their branding has some cute skulls and lots of pink. The cafe itself is rather charming as well. There are couches (not comfortable), and tables and chairs that are slatted wood. For the holidays, there are lots of decorations. Halloween had lots of webs and spiders, and there are Christmas decorations up right now! While the shop here is cute, the staff aren't the greatest. They're not very inviting or welcoming, and asking for recommendations is pretty much useless. Basically unenthusiastic about working here it seems. Also, at times, it can be really loud. The music volume can be pretty high, and in combination with the blender, it can be hard to hear across a table. As for the drinks, they're alright. Not the best, but they do the job for boba cravings. +EARL GREY FLOAT: This is similar to a creama drink (first time I've seen it called a float). The cream on top of this one is sweet, which is nice compared to the earl grey tea below it. This is probably my favorite drink here. +/-MILK TEA (GREEN): The drink is a hit or miss. Sometimes it tastes more watered down but other times there's a strong green tea flavor. When it tastes good, it reminds me of a jasmine milk tea. -MANGO TEA: Syrup, mango syrup. That's all it tastes like which is quite disappointing. It was extremely sugary sweet. -BOBA: It looks like honey boba (there's some syrup on the bottom). However, they don't taste like any honey boba I've had; there's only a faint hint of sweetness but otherwise pretty bland. It also feels like they're different sizes and just way too soft. There generosity and customer service is key to this as it is not uncommon or them to simply take care of the customers regardless of their requests. "Extra jelly, more red beans? No problem!" The macaroons here are delicious. They are from the Macaron Cafe in NYC and seam to be popular item to sell here in local shops. They must get delivered here as I know of a few local places that sells them. The slices of cake here are ok. The mouse cakes have two parts a vanilla cake on the bottom and the mouse layer on top. Nothing spectacular and the cake seemed dry. They are cute though! The store is very bright and keeps with the same theme throughout and they staff highly friendly and knowledgeable employees that help keep the lines moving! A bubble tea shop on a busy street in New Haven. They have a nice selection of bubble tea, yakult drinks and slushies along with some snacks like takoyaki. The layout isnt the best with the register being at the front and a line forming out the door making it hard to get in and out of the Cafe. My friends make fun of me for how often I drink boba. I absolutely LOVE the boba here--I know Vivi's has experienced its fair share of criticism, but compared to the rest of New Haven's boba providers, Vivi's is by far the best, offering the widest selection and the most options for customization. They also offer cheesecake, macarons, and street food here, though I've never tried any of these and have yet to confirm their quality. The vibe of this place is a little strange because the decorations are very pink and cutesy, but it often sounds like a club because of the music they play. There's lots of comfortable seating available, and Vivi's has honestly become a favorite destination to hang out with friends and catch up. As a side note: some of the workers here are incredible. Perhaps it's time I learned my lesson and ordered drinks as they come, without altering sugar levels the first time that I try a new boba place. However, even with low sugar levels, my Jasmine Float lacked the fragrance and strength characteristic of freshly brewed tea. The salted foam on top was not creamy enough and the tapioca pearls were average. I also tried my friend's Peach Oolong which he seemed to enjoy. It was difficult to tell if the Oolong was strong enough here too, but it's likely because any tea flavors that could have been detected were masked by the peach-flavored syrup. Whether or not I will return is uncertain, but on the off-chance that I do, I will be sure to order either a classic milk tea or an item off their Top Ten list. We've been to Vivi's numerous times back home, so we were super excited when we found one near us in CT! Unfortunately, my joy disappeared as soon as I took a sip of our drink. We ordered the 3Q milk tea, no ice and half sugar. The tea tasted watery with little tea flavor- maybe because we ordered it with no ice, they filled the gap at the top with water instead of ice? Even at 50% sugar, there should still be some sweetness, whereas ours tasted like 0% sugar. As for the toppings, the 3Q comes with pudding, herbal jelly, and boba. The pudding was okay, the boba was chewy, so that was good, but the herbal jelly was weird. It floated to the top and had no taste at all. Vivi Bubble Tea in New Haven is just not very good, plain and simple. I've been drinking bubble tea my entire life and view it as kind of a comfort meal, so I come here solely when I'm seriously craving boba. If you've ever had a decent boba in your life, you will immediately know that Vivi's is not up to par. The first thing I look for when evaluating bubble tea are the bobas themselves. Vivi's bobas are WAY soft and MUCH too small, and they're extremely chewy. I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but I often bite accidentally onto the wall of my inner cheek when chomping on Vivi's bobas because they're just too small, and that subtle, slight "resistance" just isn't there. Bobas should be perfectly round and fill up the circumference of the wide boba straw. Their texture should be slightly soft, with just the right chew resistance. They should be lightly sweetened/soaked in some kind of honey sugar mixture. The bobas here are absolutely tasteless. Second, the balance between the dairy and the tea is so off. The tea is not strong and the dairy is too overpowering. It tastes like I'm drinking lightly sweetened milk!! Please steep your teas longer, or source better tea leaves. Third, sugar levels are inconsistent; I always ask for 30% but sometimes it's overly sweet, and other times, they don't put any sugar at all, so I've resolved to simply order 0% sugar so I know what to expect. Service can be slow, especially when there's a backlog of Snackpass orders. The boba is pricy ($5.50+ for a large bubble milk oolong /specialty tea, and I think $5+ for their regular bubble milk teas.) This is the same price as Boba Guys/Ten Ren/Kung Fu Tea but Finally, the ambience is always rambunctious, with outdated pop music and strange flashing lights. I would not come here to catch up with friends, because I always feel like I have to shout above the music to be heard. I really hope the Vivi Bubble Tea team reads this review and takes this feedback into consideration, because there is a ton of potential, and I truly want them to succeed and deliver great bubble teas. read more
