I'd give this salon 1 star.. I went to my appt yesterday and Macy did everything inconsistent to my past 3 appts. While I think she does a good job. She changed her approach to my cut & color ,then upon paying my bill she said she was raising the price by 61 percent...so my 238.00 bill went to 385.00 and all I require is a partial bleach and peroxide no blow out. No toner No product. I get a old school Farrah layer with a Goldie bang. All my other hair dressers got me done in an hour n half. Macy takes 3 hours. Layers other clients within our time. She told me the price increase was because of her experience and demand of time and technique! She's 34 yrs old. I'm 61.. lololol I watch New York tutorials Alot. Ive had brilliant hair dressers in my young life. Uuuuuuummmmm she doesn't even compare to the older stylists I've known and watched. But she had done ok thus far.... But 400;Bucks for a standard layer and bleach peroxide partial? Which is low end no drama? I call it Diva mentality rippin people off... I found the Internet to even say the increase is Bloated and beyond San Francisco top tier prices..... What a joke!!! Rachel is the best hairdresser I've ever had, especially for curly hair. She truly understands curls and cuts your hair in a way that works with your natural shape and texture. As someone who's never been into a salon and due to religious purposes hasn't had my hair cut ever, I'm so happy to have found Frania! Frania talked with me over the phone first and understood what I was looking for and also reiterated it while I sat in the chair. She made me feel so comfortable and even though I felt awkward never having stepped into a salon before, she kept the positivity going and I've never felt more comfortable with someone taking care of my hair. I wanted simple waves and a wash and everything was done super professionally :) I'm definitely coming back again and Frania is the absolute sweetest and kindest soul!! Where do I start? It was ALL just bizarre from the very beginning... I came here for hair extension services based on a referral from someone else, anticipating a wonderful first experience. Beautiful salon yet the operation inside is a sh*t show & I felt that vibe immediately. From their very confusing "pricing structure", their weird affidavit for services to their poor communication; Having to wait 20 minutes (because the stylist literally took a walk in at the time of my appointment), having 4 girls stand around a very small room staring as the stylist installs your hair (super awkward and uncomfortable) to their extreme lack of professionalism & transparency. I wasn't happy with that service, so I politely let that be known both in the chair & via email post appointment - to be told they just don't really care how awful my experience was and ultimately took zero responsibility. In fact every person I spoke to about it: stylist, manager and owner were all 3 rude. (Which is so strange seeing as how they state that "every guest feels like a part of the family" & "every client has an outstanding experience." ) - Not my experience at ALL. What could have been an easy fix costing them about 30 min of their time resulting in a happy & returning customer, they flipped the narrative and blamed me for their error. Almost as if they didn't WANT my business. As a small business you would think that's what matters but no. I guess I should have read all of the reviews on this salon. Apparently they've done this to other customers as well. Extensions are a luxury service and a BIG investment, at the very LEAST an apology for taking a walk in at the time of my appointment, would have been appropriate. (Odd considering they have a $65 charge for being late) seemed a bit hypocritical. Instead I got a partial weave & they took my leftover unused hair without even telling me. (Hair that I was very clear I wanted ALL installed in my head.) I've been getting hair extensions for 20 years, and I've NEVER had an experience even remotely close to what I had at "Vivace". Overall 100% disappointing & definetly won't be returning. Save your money and go to a salon with professional veteran stylists that prioritize making their clients happy (instead of blaming the client for their own mistakes.) read more

I was a loyal customer for about a year until I made the mistake of "upgrading" to a master stylist. Please see my inspiration photo. I walked out of the salon pretty happy with the color, but after my appointment my stylist told me she was pretty concerned about how dry it was, and talked me into buying a $50 Kevin Murphy hair oil on top of the $300 color job. I thought it was strange she was so insistent upon me buying the oil when I left the salon. $350 and three days later, my hair started falling out in clumps. My beautiful hair was brittle and dry and "cracking" off. I called the salon in tears and they offered to try and fix it. When I went in they made me return the $50 oil in exchange for a treatment at the salon and some products to take home with me. Hmmm...they damaged my hair and insisted I buy a $50 oil, and then they ask for it back? The salon tried their best to fix it - but nothing could help the damage done. All in all, I spent almost $1500 at the salon with the initial color job, follow up treatments, extenstions due to losing most of my hair, etc. They refused to reimburse me a dime. The worst part was that I was made to feel that I was the one taking advantage of the salon by asking them to fix the problem. The owner told me that there is some risk with chemicals. Duh, but I didn't spend $350 to have my hair ruined by a Great Clips. I'm out nearly $1500 this year and nine months later, my hair is still messed up. Please stay away. read more

This place I will say , I can't recommend They asked me to come to see my hair for an extension, and have me sat on the chair , and no one ever came to see My hair, instead Juliana or the receptionist told Me to see her in the reception and asked me to pay $800 upfront for an extension , I have never seen what kind of hair nor someone look my hair ! Secondly, I did my Microblading here - and all My friends/ relatives said to redo ! Really disappointed. My wife and I have been regulars here and today when I had a genuine issue with being late by 15 minutes beyond the 10 min grace period, the salon said it is going to be beyond the 10 minute grace period, they cannot accommodate me anymore and will need to charge me a cancellation fee of $64, even to reschedule. I made a genuine request and they go "well we hold all our clients to the same accountability". Sounded like I was dealing with FBI and I had committed a crime. In fact felt they likely wanted me to never return. I discussed with my wife and we can't make head or tail of what we may have done to be tested so poorly. We have ensured that all through our association we pay, be respectful and always tip heavily. Business is a mutually beneficial activity and this was my worst experience in making a genuine request and being insulted by the salon. Net net the only thing I can think of is we were being profiled and were not welcome. read more

But I stumbled upon this salon on Yelp as I was trying to get a quick appointment as my then salon was always booked two months ahead. Got paired with Lexi. Not only is she super sweet and fun to chat with, she just gets it. She gives you what you ask for. Her head massage was so good too!! She delivers. Went there my second time today and well.. Went last week for the first time. Great service, quality, and ambiance but I will not be returning. I had to wait for an hour after my appointment time. Everyone was very apologetic, but it would have been nice to be comped? Even 10% off the service would have gone a long way. I came in for a full highlight and it was my first time dying my hair. During the consultation, I let the stylist know this, and she listened to me, patiently explained everything but we never discussed price. A full highlight is listed at $165-205+. I'm expecting maybe $250 max so imagine my surprise when I go to pay and it's $375 without tip. Maybe my fault for assuming but a heads up or ballpark price would have been nice. I usually dye my own hair and have it cut at a random place. I went in on my day and she covered my grays and fixed my botched dye job I did while i was sick and bored at home. (Usually it's not too bad lol). She made me a beautiful blonde! I then went back a couple months later for a haircut, absolute perfection! And just this past weekend decided to go darker again for the fall and OMG, this is my absolute favorite color my hair has ever been (and I've done it all). I don't think I cut my hair since 2019. With Covid in 2020 and me working from home, it didn't matter. Plus I'm a musician and the long hair just goes with it. (t's now early 2022) However, as it was growing down my back, it became more of a nuisance and a hassle and I decided it was about time to go back to collar bone length. I picked Vivace based on the reviews here. I got Mikhaila - who still works as an aide - and I sheepishly showed her a pick of Chris Hemsworth playing Thor. Mikhaila didn't skip a beat - "Sure, we can do that" and proceeded to work on me. I was actually even kinda concerned someone would be apprehensive of making such a substantial makeover but she didn't bat an eye. Nearly done, she got one of the senior stylists to give me a look over. Some people might be turned off to this - I was not. This woman gave Mikhaila positive feedback and even started layering my hair herself. After all was said and done, Mikhaila then offered another rinse in the sink and a blow dry. I said yes (wondering if I'd get charged for that - I wasn't). I got the cut I wanted - no more snarls, everybody was positive and friendly with me and I'll be happy to return here. read more

I came in with an 8-month grown out blonde balayage. I wanted to go Ash brown. Within 3 hours we were done with hair color and cut! Which was super quick, but still thorough. My hair is EXACTLY what I wanted and I'm so happy. This salon also offers cool rewards! I already made my next appt with Celine! For those who are curious my service (balayage and cut) was $196 without tip. I got $20 off since a friend referred me. I thought this was a reasonable price! I highly recommend this place! This time I decided to chopped off at least 5 inches of my hair, and do a subtle balayage on my natural hair color. I was happy the way my hair turned out! The first picture was my inspiration and the following pictures are what Lexi at Vivace did to my hair. It not only wasn't at all what I asked for, but cost me $400 and 7 hours of my time. When I contacted the salon and tried to have it fixed the next day (Saturday) they were closed and unresponsive. Finally, when I expressed my dissatisfaction, I was told that they delivered the service I asked for, but I will let you all be the judge of that. I took my Mom in for a wash and style. Michelea, was assigned to my Mom and was watching for us to arrive. She offered their driveway so that Mom would not have to walk too far. She then kindly took my Mom right to the wash basin, so she would not have to get in and out of too many chairs. She then gave my Mom a spa like wash and styled her hair beautifully. She actually walked us back out to the car to assist us getting out to the street. The thoughtfulness, and above and beyond treatment they offered my Mom was incredible. I hate that my first review is a negative one! My friend couldn't make her haircut appointment and I was in need of one so I went instead. I don't remember which stylist I had but the salon dynamic was more sorority house than hair styling house. There were 3 ladies with no appt who were in the back talking about how ugly or "funny" looking someone was. Ugh. My long layers were uneven and the cutting style was novice. The lady who rang me up seemed miserable. She begrudgingly asked me how I liked it and I said "fine". I was pissed off and just wanted out. I miss my style gurus in Chicago who took hair styling more seriously. I will echo the other reviewer that the blow dry was pretty half "butt". This is my second time into Salon Vivace, with Jess Brown coloring my hair and Celine cutting. They are both amazing. I have very fine blonde hair and she is the only person in the east bay I've found in 6+ years that actually can execute the lighter cool blonde color I want. It's beautiful, light with depth and cool. I go every 12 weeks and this time just used purple shampoo to maintain the cool. She consults and colors with confidence!!! I was getting compliments this past week with people asking if I just had my hair cut and colored - nope! It's been 12 weeks and still rocking it looking good!! Jess referred me to Celine for cut bc I have an angled bob and one of her strengths is short cuts. She nailed it. I brought photos and even drew what I was looking for on my phone with the drawing feature and she talked me through what that meant (texture vs stacking and so forth) and then executed it perfectly. It's such a relief to be able to go to have your hair done and actually be able to relax and enjoy instead of sitting there stressed wondering if you're going to be stuck with bad color or cut for 12 weeks. I had a really good experience with Ari their new stylist. Like many Asians I get nervous going to a non-Asian salon but Ari did a FANTASTIC job with my hair. Honestly, probably one of the best haircuts I've had. She was meticulous, patient, and didn't make me feel bad *at all* when I asked her to keep cutting or or keep making adjustments. She did a phenomenal job of thinning out my hair, and even though I asked for a very simple haircut (Matilda, basically) she made it look so good, and so EXPENSIVE! I'd rather not single out and identify the stylist that colored my hair, but she definitely needs more training and experience under her belt. She gave me an ombré (when I asked for balayage), incorporated shades not suitable for my skin tone (blondish highlights?!) and lazily and haphazardly left hair dye on my forehead. All this for $150. Went in for the first time to get my hair done for Senior Ball about a week ago, and I was absolutely in love with what Macy did with my hair! She explained step by step what she was doing and worked with me to see what I liked. The "stitching up" technique that she used on my updo was painless, easy to remove, and held the style all day and night! I have FINALLY done it! I have found my forever salon! I moved to Pleasanton in August of 2013 from Huntington Beach and in all this time I could NOT get comfortable at any salon (or with any of their prices). But thanks to a friend who referred me to Savannah at Salon Vivace, I am now happy and comfortable and will continue to go there as long as possible! Not only is the salon in a beautiful old home, it is decorated beautifully and gives you a sense of living in the lap of luxury without having to pay crazy prices. ALL of the girls there are absolutely lovely and so warm and inviting. I tend to feel looked down upon in salons, but here I felt like an old friend. Savannah is still building her business and I highly recommend seeing her ASAP because she is so wonderful, I know she will book up fast! I told her what I wanted, and she did it. And did it well. I also loved Missy who was helping as well. I needed to fix up an existing Balayage that another salon had kind of made look icky. The mimosas aren't bad either...lol. I have been coming to Vivace for a little over a year via the recommendation from my cousin. I've had Taylor doing my hair now for that amount of time and she's been amazing. When I first came in, I had long, thick hair and wanted to chop it into a "lob". She did a great job and knew how to add the layers with it still looking subtle and not too choppy but able to give me the texture/style I was wanting with the lob. She even showed me how to curl it to achieve the look at home. Most recently, we did a balayage on my hair. I hadn't had it colored in almost 8 years and I had never gone lighter, since I have dark brown hair. She talked me through it and explained what she was doing and why she was doing it. I can't rave enough about Jessica Brown and her amazing knowledge and skill! I had been following her on Instagram and loved her styles and work. She had me send her photos of colors I liked and she nailed it with my hair. I used to think my hair looked OK then I'd see a picture of myself and noticed it being yellow, patchy or just not right. I just saw a picture of myself from the side last week and thought "I wish my hair could look that good..." then I realized, IT WAS MY HAIR!!! I'm so so happy!!! Jessica is so knowledgeable about color and products. Vivace is an adorable salon and has a wide variety of products I had never heard about but am now loving!
