My friend who lives in Lake Grove was in dire need of a night out. Seeing that Viva Juan's was still open and had karaoke on Friday nights, we knew we needed to go back in time about 20 years and check the place out. And sure enough the place hasn't changed. And the food is still great. And the service is still awesome. Guac is fresh. Empanadas are delicious. They have an awesome menu with amazing combos. You go in and it's still the same traditional decor. I'm so happy to see Viva Juan's stood the test of time and is still so great. Next time I go, I'm singing. Who is coming? read more

Absolutely bland. Worst Mexican ever. Ive had food trucks that SMOKE them. Dont do it people..

This place is the perfect balance of hole in the wall but nice night out type of vibes. The decor screams authentic and fiesta, the servers are all very friendly and helpful, and we love the menu! There is something for everyone, our favorites are the fajitas and the enchiladas. There's even a kids menu so our little guys can enjoy the night out with us. Drinks are always great and the prices won't disappoint either. Definitely recommend our friends at Viva Juan! read more

Viva Juan - Carnitas Mexican Tacos - Mexican Near Me - Selden, New York

Would highly recommend this spot great food clean and great service. The price is reasonable and the portions are big.

Five of us dined here for lunch on 7/3/26. Two of us arrived early and walked into a steaming hot restaurant. (It was over 90 degrees outside) Then I went to the ladies room and there was no toilet paper. The server finally approached us and we complained about the ac and he said it was turned all the way up. Ok. So we ordered drinks and they were out of a couple of items so they couldn't make what I wanted. He came back with 2 easy margaritas and he told us we could leave if we were still hot. It was almost like he didn't want us there. We didn't know what to do but then our other three friends joined us and they said, "Why is it so hot in here?" But we decided to stay. The food was decent but I would never go back. read more

been goin here since they opened. Last night the service was terrible, but everyone has a bad day so wasnt too upset. That was until the waitress charged me for the items we didn't order AND gave herself a 20% tip on the bill( we were only a party of 3!). I never really looked when i paid in the past. just paid and always gave min 25%... So i went back at previous charges and let's just say this place is shady intheit practices read more

Although I live close I've never went although it's been on my radar for a while . Went on a Saturday . It was surprisingly empty although I'm told that is usually not the case . We were constantly checked on and taken care of . Menu choices were explained . We were starving and ordered nachos and ceviche and both were very good . We both had steak and shrimp fajitas which were great as well. The menu is extensive there is something for everyone . There are three issues I did have . We ordered a pitcher of Margaritas . I believe it was about 40 bucks . The pitcher was about a third filled with ice and not a crazy large pitcher . We ended up ordering another one . The drink glasses were jelly jar types , how about a traditional Margarita glass ? And the glasses came with ice as well ?? Why ? I mean it wasn't a deal breaker , just not the bargain that we might have hoped . They bring you chips and salsa which they refilled . Both were great . But they brought the salsa in a small ramekin that could not accommodate the size of the chip . I can't figure that one out . Lastly the tortilla brought to assemble the fajita was a bit on the small side . Made it a bit harder to put everything together . So you may ask ... why the 4 stars ? Well ..., food and service were really great . They aim to please . I'll go back for sure . Just might order a bit differently on the cocktail side and perhaps make a suggestion on that Ramekin . read more

You can't go wrong with the food. Portions are generous and everything is fresh and delicious. Service is friendly and the ambiance is an authentic Mexican joint. They even have live music, karaoke and djs depending on the night. Fun for groups. read more

Drinks and service were great, unfortunately all the food was underwhelming. Lacks flavor despite being salty.

So today my BFF and I came here bc we were Looking for a new -place to eat dinner...every Wednesday we have dinner whether its the 2 of us or the 6 of us... it's just fun! So this place was very bright and colorful, and seemed interesting. Should we decide where to have a meal by the looks of the places??? Maybe ... it has a small menu which didn't faze me and we ordered. I had the Vegetarian plate no cheese no dairy ...so beans rice and veggie burrito... it was good..My BFF had a steak dish , beans rice guac.....nice decor but didn't feel it...The food was good though but not enough plant based vegan choices and the service decent...didn't have a AH HA MOMENT! Like we will be back.... prob not ..... read more

Hmmmm. This place has been consistently good for years, but this time it was disappointing. Did they change chefs or owners? Shrimp was very salty. Steak overdone. Sautéed onions not sautéed enough. Very disappointing dinner. Maybe that's why they offered a 2 for 1 dinner. read more

I haven't been here for a number of years, not for any real reason. We decided to eat there Friday night, it was delicious.. the taco salad with steak. The wait staff was extremely friendly.. nice ambience. We will definitely be back! read more

Tried it 3 times. Consistently so-so. The service was very good but the food was not good at all. Sorry but this is a solid 1

The food is great service is phenomenal but I would so much rather ordering on yelp because for some reason the prices is completely different read more

Very disappointing. Ordered the Paella. The lobster had a bad taste and smelled rotten. There was literally no lobster meat on the inside of the tail or claw. The muscles also emitted a foul order and the muscle meat looked like it was decomposing. I had ordered this meal before and it was very good. Unfortunately, I was not so lucky this time. I'm just hoping I don't pay a physical price for the small amount I actually ingested. I will not be ordering from here again. read more

Nice local place to go to. The waiter was very nice. I enjoyed the guacamole it was perfectly made. The sweet plaintain quesado was a nice combination of cheese and sweet plaintain. My friend had the cerviche which was chock full of shrimp. Very generous. read more

This food is authentic. So delicious. We ordered chimichangas, flautist and nachos. Everything was so great. The service was attentive and my margarita was fleurons without being too salty. I loved to Long Island from queens 3 years ago and have been searching for good Mexican food and I finally found it. Go here and have a great meal! The rice and beans are outstanding too!!! read more

The food is great but since covid I've only ordered delivery. Get the nachos but ask for the toppings separate so they don't get soggy. Pro tip lol read more

I eat out often but will NOT ever go back to Viva Juan . Let me say that the cleanliness and service was fine. The restaurant had about 8 tvs playing sports ( as if it were a sports bar ) which didn't fare well for a romantic night out with my loved one. Then came my dinner The Famous Mexican Chicken Tacos , UGH So dry and tasteless that I needed to pour my rice and beans over them just to add flavor. I didn't complain ate 2 of the 3 , paid my bill, left a generous tip for the waiter, and left without saying goodbye! read more

Why am I getting charged for something I don't eat and sent back because it wasn't good at all

Ugh.. We came here for a birthday party. I noticed it was happy hour and we arrived early. I ordered two for one Margaritas, which I thought were very good. So far it seems like its going to be a good night if the drinks are an indication of what's ahead. We're seated and I ordered Queso Fundido to start. Someone took the fun out of the Fundido. What was brought to me was a unholy mess. I said, this isn't Oaxacan cheese, its mozzarella!? I grab the waiter, is this mozzarella? Yes, its good no? Um.. no! What the F! That's like going to get a slice of pizza and instead of mozzarella they used Kraft American Cheese slices. It doesn't work..... Next, my wife ordered fajitas. Overcooked and the most underseasoned dish of the night. Fajitas should come out sizzling with oil. No sizzle. No oil. No seasoning. What type of place is this? I ordered Chile Relleno, this should be an easy dish to make. They used a cheese that made me sad with each bite. No bueno. Do you know when I said Viva? When it was time to leave. Never again Juan read more

This place SUCKS !!!! They mess up take out orders ALL THE TIME , will not make good for it , will never go back !!!

I went on karaoke night. I was in a foul mood bc i had a shit day at work but I was forced to have fun since it was Friday night . An Elvis/john cash impersonator owned the karaoke mic and he looked at me twice. The sangria was weak couldn't get wasted then my gf yanked me home read more

Went on a Friday night at 8:45. Kerokoke started at 9pm. There was also a large birthday going on. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. I won't recommend you bring a child because it is very loud in this establishment. Lots of drunk people swearing and acting bazaar. I few people lost in the 80's. It was entertaining. Our meals were very good and service was excellent but didn't like the chips and salsa. Very plain. Margaritas were tasty but a little weak. Did enjoy ourselves so I would return. read more

Delicious food! Great margaritas and outstanding service!

Honestly, I grew up a Latina, so this food for a Mexican owned restaurant deserves honestly 1 star, I should've went to chipotle instead. Steak was tough to eat, rice was dry, the tortilla was sweet and lemons were obviously getting old. Waited for my check almost 30 minutes because the waiter disappeared for a minute, water tasted like sink water and the seating is ridiculous, gave this place multiple try's but no more. Didn't even take another bite after the first taco. Gordon Ramsay would've died. read more

Food is awful and service is worse!! Not a place I would go back to. The food wS burnt, dry and tasteless.

We've been to this restaurant many times. Typically a decent meal. This time was dreadfully different. Our server was extremely slow, my margarita was awful. Not sure how a mexican restaurant can make a terrible margarita but they did. As far as the food, I'll start with the good. The burrito was delicious and cooked perfect, the chimichangas were very good too. That's where the good ended. I had the jumbalya. The mussels in the jumbalya were awful. They had a very bitter taste Clams were just as bad. Very disappointing. I will visit again but the jumbalya and margaritas are off the list. read more

Great Mexican food! I've never have to wait for a table and the service is very fast. The to go service is great as well, coming with a large serving of tortilla chips and salsa. They really need to straighten out their website situation though... I went ahead and posted their menu since I could never find it online. read more

Had a great experience. I go to school at suffolk it's close by. Nice happy hour 4 to 7, buy one get one . Had a skirt steak taco salad. My favorite kind of steak . Gave a good portion and it was seasoned well. It came in a taco shell and with lots of rice , have to remember to ask for no rice and a regular bowl next time . Sweet bartender and a very delicious margarita. Happy to have a found this great place in this little shopping center . read more

Inside, the restaurant is beautiful. Lots of color and fun music. The food was very disappointing. The meat (shrimp and chicken ) is not seasoned and very bland. If you are a plain food eater and appreciate dry meat, this would be your place. Very little care was taken when preparing the food and for the food display. Would not recommend, even for a quick lunch, unless you really dislike the date you are on with. read more

I've been coming to see the one for many many years. I started going to the original one in Centerport. I always enjoy the one here in Selden until recently. The quantities have gotten smaller and the food has no flavor and if you want a any extra salsa they charge a ridiculous amount for a small little to go container. They treat you like a takeout when it is a sit down restaurant. Very disappointing and will probably not go back. Would rather go to blue tortilla.. read more

Love Mexican food. It's a great romantic place to eat. High end prices. Great food. Please offer more vegetarian options. Shrimp Tacos

Food was mediocre, service was beyond mediocre. Then at the end AFTER we pay they charge a 4% service fee for using a debit card not just a credit card a debit card. When I went to complain the manager he said that "there is a sign on the door" which I attached. You can not see it when the door is held open. Will never go back read more

Viva Juan - Mexican Near Me - Selden, New York

Mexican. I liked the Viva Juan in Huntington and looking around I saw that there was this location - apparently the only one left and we were in the mood for Mexican so we got ourselves a table and got the party started. I started off with a margarita - it was a bit too sweet for me- like the bottle margarita mix type of sweet. No bueno- I bailed out of that after the first one. We all went with mixed drinks after that. The menu has all the usual suspects you expect at a Mexican joint with the exception of tamales which is basically what I really wanted. Plan "B" was a combo plate with a tostada, burrito and enchilada and came with the standard yellow rice and refried beans. My partner in crime went with a kids portion chicken and rice, good move on her part - and frankly, I would order next time as it was on the large size. We had chips and a pretty lively salsa while waiting for the food. The water on the table - straight from the tap and although cool, it tasted like crap. The food made an appearance and I have to say, it was somewhat disappointing - everything was just meh. Nothing was that tasty that you wanted to eat more of it - especially the tostada - it looked like something you microwave. I basically ate the beans with the tortilla chips and called it a meal. The place was basically empty with only one other table- but it was also early in the day so that could explain that. Overall, for what we paid and what we felt it should have cost, we would probably not go back here when there is an awesome place much closer to home. Parking in front. read more
