I have wanted to stop in for lunch at this spot for a while and on an early work release snow day on a Friday lunch, my desires all came true for rotisserie chicken. I mean, it is rotisserie chicken and that is a good thing! This was a tender, juicy chicken wing and thigh (1/4 chicken, dark). I really could not tell a discernible difference between this chicken and one of the standards from, say, Publix or Costco. But it was good. The sauces are a different story. They are why the Peruvian chicken really crosses the road. This is the differentiator. The sauces are, Aji Amarillo Sauce (Mild / Yellow), Huacatay Sauce (Medium / Green), Roasted Rocoto Sauce (Hot / Red), and Huancaina Sauce (Creamy Queso Fresco Sauce). I did not try them all, but I did roll with the Rocoto sauce. It was spicy, maybe too much for the average "mild" sauce person, but for me, it was a nice compliment to the chicken and sides that I ordered. And I received two of the small plastic "ramekin" type sauce containers for "to go." Which is good, because my order was "to go." Service was quick and polite. Restaurant is smaller, but very clean. Kitchen is open enough so that you can see the process in the works. My sides were cilantro rice and Peruvian corn salad. Both very healthy and both very bland. Which is another big plus for the sauce. I would also add that the location is at the corner of Garlington Road and Woodruff Road and not the easiest place to get into and out of unless you are going in a certain direction. Which I was. A minor win there. All told, this is a good option if you can get in and out with traffic, the chicken is good, the star of the show is definitely the sauce and I would say that overall their menu has very healthy options. My quarter chicken listed for $10.39 with two sides. With my Viva Chicken desires satisfied, I would recommend this restaurant if convenient to your travels, but honestly would not make it a destination. read more

How I wish there was a Viva Chicken near me! My sister and I discovered Viva Chicken on Yelp while visiting and wanted a quicker meal as we were pressed for time but didn't want something super unhealthy. You walk up to the counter and order, it's a pretty casual vibe. The people working had genuine smiles and were friendly. I opted for the naked Peruvian wrap with a side of plantains while my sister got the avocado quinoa salad with a side of yuka. Both were delicious, and we asked for sides of their sauces to come with. I'm not sure what the names of the sauces were called but there was a green one that was delicious, and a spicy one that we equally loved too. We could have split one entree as neither one of us made a dent in the other half of our meals. Pricing is fair for the amount of food they give you. They also have a selection of juices--I got the herbal limeade. You could definitely taste the herbal factor which I liked. It is quite sugary so I cut it with water. My outing started out at the Haywood Mall for some back to school shopping with some family members. We decided to do lunch after our shopping. Our first choice was an old standby Copper River, we actually pulled in the parking lot, then decided to give Viva Chicken a try. Viva Chicken is a Peruvian Restaurant, I of course looked it up and Yelp, told my family that the rating was good. Viva Chicken wasn't very crowded. We were undecided about what we wanted to eat, my sister ordered the half chicken, it comes with two sides. For her two sides she got fries and fresh fruit. The sandwiches and wraps come with one side. Both of my nieces got the Inca Wrap with pulled rotisserie chicken with one side. For their sides they got fries and green beans. I placed my order last. I got The Great, it's a chicken sandwich with your choice of pulled dark or white meat chicken(I got white meat, $1.85 charge for this choice), ciabatta bread or a sun dried tomato wrap.The young man at the check out suggested that I try it on ciabatta bread. It comes with pulled rotisserie chicken, lettuce, tomato, red onions and a Rocoto mayo, with your choice of a side sauce. The side sauce I got was a lightly mustard based sauce, with a little heat to it. The pulled chicken was not actual pulled chicken, more like boiled chicken chunks. The chicken had no seasoning to it, and it had very little of the mayo on it. The sandwich was only ok for me, adding the sauce and some salt and pepper helped make it taste better. I only ate half of the sandwich. The green beans were sautéed with red bell peppers, and with what tasted like garlic and some lemon juice. I didn't want the green beans cooked to death, but I didn't want to eat crunchy green beans. I would have enjoyed the old standby Copper River a lot more than I did Viva Chicken.
