Listen to the reviews and run! Have you ever seen an eye center get this many negative reviews? It's alarming and strange. I came in here as a new member and the desk lady was so unpleasant. Did not smile at all and very short replies. I almost wanted to apologize for even setting foot into the building because she seems like she did not want to talk to any guests. The other associate, I asked some simple questions about some frames I was interested in, and he looked confused and told me to ask the desk lady... no help at all and I for sure did not want to talk to the desk lady again. The eye doctor was a tad more professional (although I believe she is no longer at this facility), but even though she was informative; she did seem to lack compassion in some of her answers. There are so many other eye centers out there with better customer service - do yourself a favor and go elsewhere!!!! read more

Dr. Vo is fantastic! She takes her time with each person, addresses any questions or concerns you may have, and truly cares about eye health. I've been a patient of hers for close to 20-years and I've visited her at each of her locations. The Shirlington location has so many options for frames to choose from and the customer service is personalized. Thuy Tran took the time to show me various frames best suited for me and explained the different types of lenses and options. She made sure I had all the appropriate documentation for my FSA/HSA expenses. She fitted me properly and made recommendations to me based on my needs. My new glasses are so nice and fit me perfectly. I've had no issues adjusting to the transition and progressive lessons and the frames are very comfortable. Check out this location if you get a chance! Top notch doctors and customer service! read more

Here I am to accept I need progressive lenses. It's official. Although I normally buy my contacts and glasses elsewhere, I do find VEO has comparable prices. When the optometrist remembers you from year to you, you know the service is great. Easy breezy eye exam. Friendly staff, super great supportive service. Happy seeing clear days ahead! read more

Seamless process and friendly staff. There was an additional test (at cost) that was recommended but wasn't necessary b/c it wasn't as effective as what was included in my annual check up. Not sure what that was about. Other than that it was a pleasant experience. read more

I had a great experience here. Had my eye exam and fitted for glasses. The office was friendly and helpful. After 3 months I scratched my lenses and I called and the lady that answered the phone checked that I had a warranty still and ordered me new lenses. I came in to get them replaced and she fitted them again. Great customer service. read more

My glasses had broken, and I was at wit's end to fix them. VisualEyes Optometrists got creative and spent a good amount of time trying to fix them. So thankful to Aqua and Wendy for their tenacity in trying to help me! They truly went above and beyond. read more

Amazing staff! I am a bit shocked by the bad reviews. The staff here went absolutely out of their way to help me, and I am not even a client. Mia in particular was amazing! I was in a pinch, I had screwed up and not picked up my partners contacts in time for an international trip. They were ordered and paid for at another location that wouldn't be open until hours after her flight left. I desperately called around town looking for anyplace that would help me, no place would. :( Finally I called VisualEyes and Mia rather than saying "tough luck" as that other 20+ places I called did she was like "Email me the prescription and we will do our best to help" called me back to say they could help me to head on over. I rushed over ready to pay whatever king's ransom they wanted for a handful of contacts, they gave them to me free and just wished me the best. It is rare to see people go out of there way for no benefit, just to help another person out. :) Thanks to the crew at VisualEyes. read more

I went in for a simple repair, knowing that I would be happy to part with serous dollars for a couple of new pairs of glasses. (I love fashion and eyewear , although necessary for me, is also an opportunity to express fashion.), Well , horrible cold service by a middle age blonde woman, who clearly did NOT care once ounce about customer care, (perhaps it's the owners mother), saw me out the door within 5 minutes. I enquired at our office, to see if anyone else had experience with or used this place and found the CEO had the same result... later that day ... I had my glasses repaired at another optometrist for free and have since invested $1200, on frames and lenses at much more customer friendly place. It's such a shame as they are so handy to work ! Don't waste your time here, I feel you will do much better elsewhere and be treated with the respect a potential customer deserves . read more

Gave advanced notice that I would be ten minutes late for an appointment, and was curtly notified that my appointment was canceled. The optician, Pat, can't answer any questions you have. Every interaction I've had with her has been miserable - she's is dismissive when you try to ask for further details regarding your appointment. I suggest you look elsewhere; I know I am in the new year. Pat is LITERALLY the most dismissive, non explanatory "professional" I have come across in 28 years on the earth. It is difficult to put into words how this experience left me feeling. I tried reasoning with her and was met with a refusal that I cannot believe was real. I tried to ask her questions and all she did was type on her computer and not look at me while essentially providing non-answers to my questions. This was such a bad experience that I'm still wondering whether I was part of a show like Punk'd. I can't imagine that someone could act that way towards people and still be employed. At no point did I feel welcomed and at no point did I feel like she cared to help. An appointment was all I was asking for. She flat out told me she was unwilling to take me, after I notified them I was running ten minutes late and that if I wanted to be seen, I would have to reschedule. Fortunately for the both of us, I will do that...at another optometrist. I am absolutely in shock at this experience and certainly will not be coming back. read more

I recently got some new glasses here. I am not a spring chicken and have seen many optometrists and have been in more than a couple optical offices. I thought the optometrist gave me the best screening that I have ever had. She explained what she was seeing, she was telling me problems that I could run into and told me that I should probably have more frequent eye exams. The glasses that I have look awesome and it was because of the assistance of the optician. She helped me save money in a couple of different ways. (I still paid a lot). I came away very satisfied. They just need to make sure the customer in front of them is their highest priority and the customer or phone call that comes in next is their second priority even if they are spending more money. read more

I could have saved so much time and headache by backing out of my order at the first signs of incompetence and lack of management, but I did not and really paid for it. They refunded what I paid, but the inconvenience and time spent getting that was unacceptable. Save yourselves the headache! The exam process was straightforward and went well. The struggle occurred when I tried to order glasses/lenses through them. I brought my own frames in and placed an order early October and was told it would be ready in 1-2 weeks. I then received numerous calls from just about every employee that works there with order complications ranging from 1) not being able to find my insurance plan despite having a physical copy of my proof of insurance and the phone confirmation conducted on-site when I was there; 2) misquoting me according to the previous insurance plan I had and refusing to fix it and provide an updated, correct quote; 3) ordered the wrong size in lenses; 4) not being able to remove the incorrect lenses upon pickup of the wrong order; 5) I am sure there will be subsequent headaches with my insurance company based on this. All employees blame one another for the screw up. There is no accountability. When I asked to speak to a manager, the response was "this office location does not have a manager. Come in when the owner is in the office." I was never contacted by the owner, despite being told I would be. read more

My eye exam was great, I really enjoyed it. The customer service in the shop leaves a lot to be desired. Be careful to read your paperwork so that you don't accidentally agree to a $40 retina picture unless you want it (wasn't warned). I was scoffed at for bringing it up after the fact. I was also mischarged for my contacts, and when they called to ask me to pay more than I already paid (only $10), no one at the store was able to drop the charge. After multiple unpleasant experiences, I eventually talked with someone higher up, who doesn't work at the actual store, and she dropped the $10 charge right away. All in all - some great people, and some very poor customer service representatives. read more

REALLY wishing I had read the reviews before I came in. Great eye doctor but HORRIBLE customer service. Reordered my contacts, picked them up, began wearing them only to realize that i was given the wrong prescription for one eye. No big deal... mistakes happen. Bring the box to the store and have them reorder it for me at no cost. Great!... until I go pick the new ones up and they ordered the wrong one AGAIN! waited a week - called to confirm that the box had been ordered and they tell me (for the second time) that the contacts were on back order. When I ask them why they keep having this problem they tell me it's typically because of the brand (mind you I've worn the same brand for almost 10 years... so clearly not the issue). I call back again a week later and what do you know, the box has finally arrived. I will NOT be going back to this eye doctor and it's really unfortunate because I really liked her, but the shop itself is awful. Sorry for such a horrible review - I've never done this, but I am so irate with the whole situation. read more

I read the reviews here on Yelp before going to this establishment. I thought "This place can't be THAT bad and I just need an eye exam and this place is a block from my home." When I arrived for my appointment I was seen by the optometrist right on time. The doc was pleasant and as far as I could tell did a thorough exam. The verdict: just as I feared, I needed my first set of reading glasses. After the exam I politely asked for my eyeglass prescription as I wanted to do some comparison shopping, and the receptionist obliged. I took the script to a local "glasses made in an hour" type of shop and bought my first pair of spectacles (which I look darn good in by the way). When I began to pay for my new glasses at the quickie eyewear establishment I happily explained that my health insurance would be picking up a large portion of the tab and asked them to run my insurance card. Imagine my dismay when I learned that per my insurance, VisualEyes had claimed I had utilized both my eyeglass and contact lens benefits! WHAT???!!! Fortunately the capable staff at "Quickie Eyewear Place in a Mall" worked with my insurance company who in turn worked with VisualEyes to check my story and reverse the exhaustion of my insurance benefits. In summation while my experience with the eye exam was fine, if you have insurance coverage and don't plan to buy your eyewear at this establishment I'd suggest you go elsewhere as they might just screw you over. Not sure if it was purposeful or if their staff just don't know how to properly submit insurance claims. read more

I was a little apprehensive based on the mixed reviews, but came here as the other two optometrists which take my insurance had no reviews, and I have to say my experience with VisualEyes in Shirlington was very positive. Making an appointment with Dr. Bieber was easy and they called the day before to confirm. There was about 5 minutes of paperwork after walking in and no wait really to start my eye exam. After dilating my pupils for a full exam, I shopped for frames with some help, though I have to say that it seemed the men's options were limited without much variation between brands. After settling on a style, they were ready for finishing my exam and I was out within an hour. My insurance requires they send the prescription out, so I'll have to wait 1-2 weeks for my glasses, but assuming that goes to plan I was quite pleased with the staff and doctors at VisualEyes, so they must have addressed whatever issues people had in the past. read more

A pair of round-frame Gucci sunglasses in the window caught my eye...and then I found out the variety of frames and sunglasses that VEO carries is huge once I walked into the store. The only other place I've seen that is comparable in their variety of styles and brands (from budget-friendly to high-end designer) might be a boutique practice in Northwest DC. I was the only one walking around in the store that day (a weekday), and was glad that the sales associates (or opticians?) didn't follow me around or make me feel uncomfortable like some boutique places might. The staff also takes great care to clean your sunglasses for you with KimWipes, which are used in labs to delicately clean any dust off of instruments without adding lint or causing any scratches. So did I end up walking out with those Gucci sunglasses? Yes and no - another pair of Gucci sunglasses went home with me but I still think about those round-frame ones as well! read more

VisualEyes is a cute little boutique optician in Shirlington. I love the neighborhood and thought I would treat myself to some nice designer frames and high end service. Severely disappointed with nearly every aspect of the product and service there, and especially the utter lack of customer service, in particular, Pat the lone Licensed Optician. The Optometrist, Dr. Vo was nice enough and apologetic for the multiple delays and shoddy workmanship on my glasses, but kept blaming the lab that contracts with my insurance company. The first time I got glasses back, after a two week delay, they were mounted incorrectly and sat crooked on my face. Pat, the "licensed optician" was nice enough to claim that not only were the glasses fine, even though they were plainly crooked, maybe it was because of "my facial features" that the glasses were not even. I went back to speak to Dil (sp?), the one front office staffer who was reasonable, who said, oh these are crooked, we'll send them back to the lab. It took another 3 weeks to get a replacement part and when I went back the lenses were barely mounted onto the frames and the frames were damaged from where they took the old lenses off. Not only were the glasses shoddy, which I guess you can blame on the lab, but the staff at VisualEyes called me to pick them up without doing so much as a simple inspection. Wasting my time making repeated trips to the store to find glasses that were not close to right. Especially given the prices they are charging. Since clearly couldn't make rimless glasses I ordered new frames (store credit only), some nice Mykita frames. Those took another 2 weeks and when I went to pick them up, they were completely jacked up too. The frames were bent out of whack and essentially broken. Again, they called me in to try to sell me glasses that were worthless. After nearly three months of back and forth and no glasses to wear, I demanded a refund and they finally gave it to me. I wanted to like this place, but I would not recommend it. read more

This time around my experience has been disastrous. Except the eye exam which was very thorough and professional. I paid over $1000 for new frames and lenses and replacement lenses for my sunglasses. I am not stingy when it comes to my eyes. The service has been horrendous. It took the store more than two weeks for my sunglasses and then it turned out my lenses were wrong because of faulty measurements. Just called to check on my new frame and lenses and after almost three weeks they will be finally ready tomorrow. Let's see if those lenses will have been measured correctly.... Don't patronize VisualEyes Optometrists if you are looking for well trained staff. I had a similar experience three years ago and should have gone some place else this time around. I only have myself to blame. Needless to say, I won't be back. read more

Got my eye exam booked at Visual Eyes by sightbox. Parking is a bit difficult but there is a garage on the back. I had two appointments one initial and another check up and had a great experience in both. Dr Michelle Lee was very courteous and helpful both times i was in and out on both occasions i would definitely recommend. read more

I had my appointment on Friday, September 12, 2014. I ordered a pair of glasses that day. They told me my glassess would be done in about 2 weeks. 3 weeks later I remembered I should've received a call from the office about my order, so I called them. They stated it would be probably another week. I thought it was strange, as it has never taken more than 3 weeks for me to get glasses from other providers. But I waited another week. After 4 weeks, I called again. They seemed concerned and told me they were going to call and check on them and would give me a call back that same day to give me a status. Nothing happened. I called again October 22 and the lady said she was going to call right away and call me back. She calls me back and says that the lab had misplaced my frame and couldn't find it. She said they could order the same frame style that day and have my glassess done by their lab in one week. Almost 2 months after, I still don't have my glassess. Today, Monday, November 3, 2014, I called to check on the status of my glasses. They told me they ordered my frame and it would be here "soon". I asked for a refund and she said they don't give refunds, only store credits. I will not be coming back to this place ever, so I told her I need my money back because it was their office that has given me the run-around since Sept. So, she said she was going to talk to her manager and call me back. I haven't received a call back yet. read more

Great all around service from a thorough eye exam to no pressure eye glass selection.

I saw Dr. Frederick for the first time here and I really enjoyed my visit. She was very knowledgable, took her time and answered all of my questions. On top of all of that she was very nice and personable. Making an appointment was easy, I used their online option and received an email the next day with one of my appointment choices. The front staff are nice enough, though I can't really give them a much of a review since I didn't need new glasses. What rating do you give to a place that falsely accuses you of theft? Is below zero possible? I made the huge mistake of scheduling an appointment to have my eyes checked at this establishment. Learn from my mistake-don't do this under any circumstances. Eye techs - rude, unhelpful, uninformed, and unprofessional. The optometrist was kind and helpful in stark relief to the eye techs. Tried looking at frames for the glasses I'd just been told I needed, but helping me was not worth the lab tech's time. I left. When I got to my office this morning I had not one but two messages telling me that they were very kindly giving me the opportunity to return frames they claim I stole before they "took the next step." They added - we have cameras. I left them a message letting them know, in no uncertain terms, I hoped they had cameras in every nook and cranny recording my every move because I have never, and would not, steal anything. To say I am angry is an understatement. Have I received any kind of response? Of course not. So, like I said, learn from my mistake - don't darken this door. Update: the response to my review has upped the anti to slander. As I wrote to the "owner," please give the tape to the police. I would be delighted to talk to them. I particularly love the statement that the doctor is a witness. The doctor was seeing a patient when I left. RUN from this place. RUN, RUN, RUN. read more

Go elsewhere if you can. I tried with this place, because they're local, but now I see why they have such horrible reviews. The only reason they got a star is because 1, I had to, 2 because I actually like the glasses I got from them. Their customer service is trash, don't expect anything to actually be done. There's one good receptionist, too bad I can't remember her name. But two other different receptionist told me two different stories, and now I'm left without contacts.. and a pair of sunglasses with the wrong prescription.. BUT atleast I have my regular glasses. this is a toss-up on the rating because the eye doctor here was very nice and informative, but the staff was lacking in customer service. unfortunately i can't remember the doctor's name, but she was very friendly and did a thorough job and also saw me quickly. i had made an appointment before i came, and she saw me immediately after i finished filling out my paperwork. the office was small, but very clean and i felt like i was in good hands. my only complaint is about the staff. after my exam i wanted to look at some of the glasses they have in the shop area. it's a pretty small selection, but has some nice stuff. i started to explain to the lady working there that i wanted a "nerdy look." she kept handing me pairs of glasses that were totally different than what i was looking for, and also making comments about the glasses i was choosing. she repeatedly told me what SHE liked, and also told me what SHE didn't like! she was quite opininionated, and it wasn't totally positive. i found a pair that i really liked and when she saw them, she literally LAUGHED! i felt like i was being teased on the playground, and i was trying on glasses that are for sale in the office where SHE works! shouldn't she be trying to sell the glasses, and not making people feel awful about they way they look in them? i finally said i would just take my prescription elsewhere. read more

Horrible customer service. On Monday I filled out an online request for an appointment requesting a Saturday or Sunday. On Thursday I hadn't heard back and used their online contact form to inquire. I then received an appointment confirmation for a Monday appointment. I emailed back and said that I needed a weekend appointment and they apologized and scheduled it for Saturday. There were a couple more back and forths to provide insurance information and confirm that it was with the doctor I wanted. I received both email and text confirmations of my appointment, which I responded to. When I arrived they told me they had no record of my appointment, so I showed them the confirmation. They then took me back and had me do the depth and color blind tests and then had me sit to wait for the doctor. They then came up to me and told me the doctor was behind and couldn't take any more appointments. When I explained that I wasn't a walk-in, that I had an appointment and showed my confirmation. He then conferred with woman at the desk and told me they couldn't see me. Needless to say I didn't reschedule, and my husband who had a good experience last year won't be coming back. Went today for exam and to pick out new frames. Pat, the optician, greeted me, got me going on forms, and did some of the prescreening tests.
