Picture this, you are driving your trusty 2007 Saturn Ion from LA to San Simeon for the weekend…read morewhen the check engine light comes on. You think "no big deal it's probably the oil." So, you get an oil change and they reset the light but the engine light stays on. You take a chance and continue to drive, however, when you just about get to Oxnard you start to have issues accelerating. You think, "Transmission issue?!" Your heart sinks. Then, as if by fate or magic (or Apple Maps) Pro-Masters appears and an absolute saint of a man named Frank offers to read the engine code for you. It turns out there was a sensor issue with the accelerator and thankfully not the transmission. Frank resets the check engine light, lets us know it's no big deal and that the computer in the car will probably forget that it was having the error in the first place. This works of course and we cannot figure out how to thank Frank for the rescue and peace of mind. Is it a crazy story? No. Is it a relatable one? Yes. I am so grateful to know there are people like Frank out there who run an honest business and are willing to help people even if there's no money to be made on a major repair. I was thinking I would have to leave the car in Oxnard, rent a car to drive north, then return after the weekend. But then I met Frank at Pro-Masters. He explained the issue was our heater core, and it needed to be replaced. I explained my plan. He said not to worry; he could bypass the heater core, allowing us to drive up to Santa Cruz and back to San Diego safely. I told him he could do the whole replacement, but he said he would prefer the quicker fix so I could get on my way. That means he voluntarily gave up the opportunity to make a couple thousand dollars so I could save money and time, and so my family could enjoy their vacation. His repair worked perfectly, took one hour to complete, and cost me $80. Any businessman who willingly sacrifices money in the best interest of the customer is top-notch, in my book. I was also already pre-approved through my own bank. After they ran my credit, they suddenly wanted approximately $2,000 more. When I questioned the difference, the manager argued with me and said the previously agreed price was "his mistake." Because I authorized the credit check based on the deal we had already agreed to, I was left with unnecessary hard inquiries on my credit and no vehicle. Their mistake ended up affecting my credit, not theirs. A manager's pricing mistake should not become the customer's $2,000 problem AFTER running their credit. I walked away because I completely lost trust in this dealership. Get EVERYTHING in writing before allowing them to run your credit.

As with any new person admiring Rokt, Marco complimented me on the beauty of my ride. He ensured me that they would complete the oil change alongside checking all fluids and rotate tires, all while checking if there's any service bulletins or required maintenance applicable. I was then able to get a complimentary shuttle back to my house, since I'm within the pick-up/drop-off radius of the dealership.
