So kind, compassionate, and willing to help with making my father's last days comfortable and dignified. Dr. Dastmalchi was so empathetic and willing to listen. He was my father's doctor when he was brought into the ER, and followed him through discharge and into hospice. He met us where we were at and made sure we felt we were in good and capable hands. Francis Guerrero was incredibly helpful and efficient in getting my father's care transferred to Graceland. She came to visit my father and our family on a Saturday afternoon, and by that evening, everything was set in motion. She took care of all of the logistics. Karl (nurse) came to do the first "tuck in visit" for my father at home within 30 minutes of being brought home by ambulance. He was so kind to my father and immediately tended to our needs. Karl was willing to jump right in and do the hard work the hospital was unwilling to do. Karl made sure we had all of the comfort medications we needed for him. The next day, Haydee Palomino (nurse) came to take over my father's care. The agency listened to our request to have a native Spanish speaker. My father felt right at home knowing he was able to express himself freely, and knowing she would be culturally competent. She was wonderfully gracious with my father and made him feel at ease right away. She ordered all of the equipment we needed and checked in that afternoon to make sure it had all arrived. She validated all the work we had done to ensure a smooth passing. On the second full day with Graceland, my father passed away peacefully. He was calm and comfortable in his final hours. We couldn't have asked for a better experience with hospice. Thank you Graceland for making a difficult time in our lives as smooth as possible.

The nurses seem to have free reign to call in, stop coming in, make demands, etc. We had not had issues until this last year. I'm not sure what changed but we also have a new care coordinator on our case every few months. Further evidence that patient care is not important, if Aveanna/formerly Premier cannot staff all of a patients hours, they do not allow you to split hours with other agencies. Essentially, holding hours that they can't fill hostage. If you have 1 nurse you like filling a portion of the hours but can't get coverage for the rest, you are SOL. Since January (5 and a half months), here is what we have experienced trying to find help for my 8 year old son. LVN #1.) LVN calls in often. We wait until they have a replacement and let her go. LVN #2.) Replacement is unqualified for the job. Additionally, comes in for about a week, calls in for 2 days and we advise not to come back LVN #3.) Another new LVN is with us for about 8-10 weeks. Misses 6 days total. One day calls in because she's stressed out that we had to call an ambulance for my son the day before. Has a bad attitude, rolls eyes when asked for help. We decide to tolerate until a replacement can be found. Without notice they move nurse to another case at her request citing that she was a new grad and decided she didn't want to do feeding tube patients after "trying it out". Management tries to placate us by saying she just wanted to "grow her skills" as a new nurse. I don't know about you but even 2 week notice is customary for quitting a job. Instead of giving us notice, they immediately give her another case, leaving us without help again. We request no newly licensed LVNs without experience from here on out and I advise we are not a training family. It's a lot of work for me to teach and I want someone long term. LVN #4.) We interview a nurse making all requirements for my son's care clear including him spending his days rolling around on a gymnastics mat since he can't walk. She tells the agency and is at the interview that this will not be an issue. I again take time off work losing income to train her. I spend an entire day training here. She then calls the agency and says it's too hard on her back and will not be returning. Aveanna/Premier needs to set patient care to be at least as important as keeping nurses on staff rather than prioritizing keeping LVNs on staff at the expense of the families who are depending of them for help. I believe that they prioritize nurses because they see and interact with the nurses during training, interviews and reviews but no one in management or case care who is responsible for staffing for the patient ever actually sees the families in person. Instead, these relationships can be kept at a distance since the only communication that happens is on the phone. It's easy for them not to care as much when they do not see the patient or family as actual people.
